Note: It's June, everybody, and you know what that means. Happy Pride Month, readers, beta readers and writers! As it's a new month, I have decided to write a story about an LGBTQ couple. However, in the case of this story, it focuses on a couple that isn't official, but one that multiple people in the fandom support. What TV show, film, video game, book or comic am I referring to when I mention a fandom? You'll find out when the story begins (though you might already know from the tags attached to it).
Before we get into it, I want to apologize if I lied about posting a story last month. It was a rather busy May, so I wound up not being able to write something new for that month. However, as it's a new month, that means that a new story will be out. It will not interfere with the writing process of the others, so don't worry. There might even be an update to a story that primarily gets ignored when I write, so be on the look out for a new chapter for that one. Of course, if you do not follow said story, that's okay.
Now that I've said all of that, and because I don't want to ramble. Let's get on with the story.
A Lovely Couple
It was a fine morning in the middle of June, as it was nice and warm. The sun rose over the city, shining through the clouds. Having rained the night before, the city's environment was humid, with dew sprinkled all over the streets. Windows on each building had slight fog on them, but the fog would eventually fade after a few days. A weather report said that it would be sunny and clear for the rest of the week, though some did not trust the forecast. It all depended on what would happen, as an update could change the forecast.
Shops and other businesses were starting to open up around town. This meant that anyone would be able to enter and take a look through each one. However, while some were up early enough to enter each store, most were still in bed. They would only leave their homes when the sun was out, finding it unsafe to do so in complete darkness. One such person who felt this way happened to live in town, as they were still in bed. However, they lived in an area that people tended to miss while traveling: a simple apartment building deeper within town.
Inside an apartment building, a young man was sleeping in his bed. As the sun shined through his window, he pulled a blanket over his face, acting like a vampire who was intent on avoiding the sun as quickly as possible. He was not ready to go out yet, as he felt it was much too early to wake up and head out into public. If he went out at this time of day, then he would be unable to talk to anyone he knew, as they would still be asleep. Also, going out without getting dressed or being prepared to face the day was a bad idea, especially considering the recent weather. Looks didn't matter to him, but he didn't want to get sick.
All around his room, the young man was surrounded by bookcases, a trophy rack and a diploma, but no degree. He had yet to graduate college, but he had managed to go through the twelve years of public school. Throughout his young life, he participated in certain academic groups, thinking that it would be fun to try out. In the process, the young man wound up being the one to help each team improve, though he was never captain. Despite that, those accomplishments made it to his college applications, which allowed him to choose from the best campuses, including ones from other states. However, he chose one that was in his state, due to not wanting to drive an extended period of time each day.
On the other side of the room, the young man had pictures that had been taken at certain points in his life. Some included him with his family, while others included him with his friends. Even though he had a tendency to be busy, the young man often had time to hang out with his friends. They did not mind that he was smarter than them, as they were glad that he was. His intellect proved helpful to them on certain occasions, primarily ones where they could've been in trouble without his help. On the other hand, they kept him from doing something drastic in the past, allowing him to do stuff that was far more reasonable.
Even though some of his friends were female, the young man did not go out on a date with any of them. In fact, he did not have a girlfriend as he grew up. It wasn't because he was shy or had a dislike for women, but rather because he was gay. He was attracted to men, but he didn't wind up in a relationship with anyone. That was mainly because he was so focused on his studies, he didn't pursue any kind of romance. Despite that, the young man hoped that he would find someone to be with, even if it took him another decade to do so. He knew that he had to go on dates, but he simply wanted to know if he could find someone to love and trust.
When an hour had passed, the young man got out of bed, brushed his teeth, and decided to make himself some breakfast. He made himself some eggs and breakfast sausage, only managing to eat all except for two sausages. As he lived by himself, he sometimes made too much food for a single person to eat. Usually, he would eat the leftovers later or throw them out when they rotted and became inedible. It was a consequence of living alone, especially considering how he rarely invited anyone over to his apartment. He didn't mind the company of his friends, but he didn't want there to be a mess whenever they visited. If anything, he wished that his apartment was covered in stain-proof material.
Upon finishing his breakfast, the young man went to get dressed for the day. Checking his wardrobe, he saw a suit and tie, which he only wore for certain occasions. Not wanting to wear any formal wear, considering how he didn't want to get it dirty, he went to look for some casual clothing. Finding a t-shirt and jeans, he put them on, so that he wouldn't be walking around in his undergarments. After putting on a pair of socks, he got on his boots, making sure to tie them before walking out of his apartment. From there, he was ready to interact with the people outside, including the humans.
There's one thing you should know about this young man: he isn't a human. Rather, he was a creature that one would consider similar to a dog, being part of the same kingdom. However, his body was somewhat different than that of a dog's, as his ears were long and came to a right angle in how they ended. His tail was similar to a dog's, but it could also remind someone of a fox's tail. Canine features aside, the young man's body resembled a human's, to the point where one would assume he was similar to a werewolf. Luckily for them, he was not, primarily because he was not a wolf at all.
He was a coyote with brown fur and olive eyes. Sometimes, he wore a pair of reading glasses on his snout, but he decided not to wear them today. As his eyesight wasn't poor, the coyote figured that he wouldn't need to wear glasses. If anything, the reading glasses were to help him read books if they had a tiny font. Now that he was out in public, the canine decided to head to a local bookstore, seeing if there was anything he hadn't read before. Whether they were new books or literary classics that evaded him throughout his youth, the coyote would see if there was anything that interested him.
Once he got to the bookstore, the coyote saw that the store's owner was asleep, so he was unnoticed. Inside the store was the smell of drugs, causing the canine to cover his nose, so that he didn't inhale the fumes of whatever was being smoked. He knew that the place was also a hangout for stoners, but that didn't stop him from making the occasional visit and seeing if a book interested him. As he walked through the store, he checked the shelves, in case there was a story he wanted to read. Eventually, the coyote found a science fiction novel that he had never heard of before, but it sounded interesting. He bought it, then decided to head back to his apartment and read it.
When he left the bookstore, the coyote found himself bumping into something. It caused him to stumble back, nearly knocking him off his feet.
"My-goodness-are-you-okay?!" A voice spoke.
Regaining his composure, the coyote looked ahead and saw someone standing nearby. This person was not a human like him, but rather a male roadrunner. He had blue feathers, purple feathers on top of his head, and a yellow beak. The avian looked worried, as if bumping into the coyote horribly injured him instead of causing him to stumble back. While it somewhat annoyed him, the coyote did not let it bother him, so he gestured to indicate that he was fine. This seemed to calm the roadrunner's nerves, though he still looked a little worried.
"I'm okay." The coyote spoke. "You did nothing to hurt me."
"Are-you-sure-that-you're-okay?" The roadrunner spoke. "I-mean-you-could've-broken-a-bone-or-pulled-a-muscle-without-realizing-it! Oh-I-really-need-to-watch-where-I'm-going!"
"There's nothing to worry about." The canine said. "But, I agree, you really need to watch where you're going, so you don't injure the next person you bump into."
"You-know-what?" The avian spoke. "I-think-we-should-exchange-some-information. I-am-Rev-Runner-the-elder-child-of-the-Runner-family-and-an-inventor-and-delivery-boy-in-my-downtime! And-who-are-you?"
"Terry Everett Coyote, but everyone calls me Tech. Nice to meet you, Rev."
"Nice-to-meet-you-too! Say-are-you-doing-anything-at-the-moment?"
"I was planning to head back to my apartment and crack open the book I just bought." Tech said. "But, if you want to do something, I'll do it with you."
"Yay!" Rev said. "Follow-me-because-I-don't-think-this-is-a-place-you've-been-to-before!"
That last part caught Tech off guard, and not just because Rev spoke at a very fast pace. He had mentioned a place the coyote possibly hadn't been to before. While there were stores and restaurants he had never visited, that was partially due to him having been busy with his studies. However, that did not stop the canine from following Rev up the sidewalk. The roadrunner moved slowly, so he didn't speed away from the person he had just met. Luckily, their destination wasn't very far, so it was easy to get to.
Once Rev stopped walking, Tech walked up to him, managing to stand next to him. They found themselves standing at a place called Alaskey Café. Like what Rev said, Tech had never been to the café before, but it was due to him being too busy to visit the place. However, the coyote was willing to try it out, thinking that the roadrunner would be disappointed if he chose not to sit down with him. There was no bad press about Alaskey Café, but there weren't a whole lot of reviews about it, either. With that in mind, Tech hoped that the coffee and the food weren't terrible.
Rev pulled the door open, deciding to let Tech enter before he did. Once he entered, the roadrunner watched as the coyote got a good look at his surroundings. The floor of Alaskey Café was in a checkerboard pattern, with the black and white squares one would expect on a chess board. As for the walls, they were red, but there were picture frames, which displayed pictures of famous celebrities. Some of these celebrities were ones Tech and Rev weren't familiar with, but that made it interesting. The cashier was near the entrance, standing behind a box with a sheet of glass that was showing several different pastries, brownies and cookies. Tables were lined up, some only having four chairs while others had two chairs.
"Welcome to Alaskey Café." The Cashier, a black rabbit, spoke. "Can I help you?"
"A table for two, please." Tech spoke.
The Cashier took out two menus and had Tech and Rev sit at a table with only two chairs. Once they were sat down, they looked through their menus, trying to find something to eat. Not only were there different coffees listed on one page, but there was a page showing the different desserts that were up front. There was a page for different sandwiches, but it was too early to eat lunch. One of the waitresses, a chameleon, came up to the table, ready to take Tech and Rev's orders. She was rather patient, not speaking up until they sat their menus down.
"Is there anything I can get for you?" The Waitress asked.
"I would like a cappuccino with French Vanilla cream, please." Tech said.
"Can-I-pretty-please-get-a-caramel-mocha-with-whipped-cream-on-top?" Rev asked.
"Anything else?" The Waitress asked, having written down on her notepad.
"That'll be all." Tech said.
After that, the waitress walked away from the table. This allowed Tech and Rev to speak to each other.
"So, what do you like to do?" Tech asked.
"Whenever-I'm-not-at-work-I-play-video-games-go-jogging-read-comic-books-read-normal-books-and-try-to-make-machines!" Rev said. "How-about-you? Do-you-do-any-of-that-stuff?"
"All I ever do is read and converse with my friends." The coyote said. "Whenever I'm not doing either of those, or focus on my schoolwork, I tend to watch movies."
"Really?" The roadrunner asked. "What-kind-of-movies? Horror-movies? Science-fiction-movies? Romance-movies? Drama-movies? Comedy-movies? Action-adventure-movies? Musicals? Documentaries?"
"I just watch whatever's on, trying to see if it's something that can be recommended or not." The canine said.
"Seen-any-that-you-would-recommend-as-of-late?" The avian said. "I've-seen-the-last-installment-of-the-Space-Warriors-series!"
"The books were better. I stay away from film adaptations of book series, as most of them are barely accurate to the original books."
"Oh-well-that's-your-loss!"
When the waiter came back, Tech and Rev were given the coffee they had ordered. They drank their coffee, not letting anything bother them. As that happened, the coyote and the roadrunner continued talking, this time discussing what they would do in the future. Getting through College was a priority, but they needed to know what their major would be in. Not knowing what they would be, they decided to point out the pictures of the celebrities they recognized. Tech knew eight of them, while Rev knew all twelve.
Finishing up their coffee, Tech and Rev left Alaskey Café. They walked down to Tech's apartment, so that they could talk some more. Once they got inside, the coyote sat down on his couch while the roadrunner stood. As there was nothing else for them to do, they proceeded to have a conversation.
"You-know-Tech-you-seem-like-a-very-lonely-guy." Rev spoke. "Do-you-ever-have-company-around-here?"
"I invite my friends every so often." Tech said.
"Do-you-have-them-over-for-dinner?" The roadrunner asked. "Do-you-ever-have-parties-or-anything-like-that?"
"No." The coyote said. "I only invite them in so we can have a conversation. I guess I have never considered inviting someone over to dinner."
"Would-you-like-to-have-dinner-together?" The avian asked.
"You mean like a date?" The canine asked.
"Oh-no-no-no! I-meant-to-ask-if-you-would-like-to-have-dinner-together-as-friends! But-if-you-want-to-treat-it-as-a-date-you-can! We'll-have-to-do-it-tomorrow-though-as-I'm-busy-tonight! Family!"
"That's fine with me, but I should warn you that I don't have a whole lot of food."
"You-don't-have-to-worry-about-cooking-because-I'm-going-to-take-you-out-somewhere! How's-that-sound?"
"It's a date."
With that in mind, Rev left Tech's apartment. They agreed to meet up tomorrow for their dinner date, with the restaurant being a secret until it was time. However, because of that, Tech didn't know if he would have to wear casual clothing or formal wear. If Rev were to tell him before the date, then it would be easier. The coyote didn't want to dress the wrong way if they went to a fancy restaurant, but he didn't want to dress like he was going to a funeral in a restaurant that was accessible to everyone. Hopefully, he would get details tomorrow.
As he went to bed, Tech felt an odd feeling. It had shown up once Rev had left his apartment, and it caused him to feel different. The coyote had felt this feeling before, having felt it when he was in middle school. He was partaking in his school science fair, having submitted a project with a classmate: a brown bear named Kenji. After the science fair, the canine was saddened to learn that Kenji was going to move to another state, so that feeling went away. Now that he had met Rev, Tech felt this again, and it was something he couldn't deny.
He was falling in love.
By tomorrow, Tech had received a phone call from Rev, which was odd considering how they had not given their phone numbers to each other. He was told that the restaurant they would be going to would be a fancy one, so he went to get ready for it. As he hadn't taken a shower since a few days ago, the coyote decided to do that first. Once he got out, he put on some deodorant, brushed his teeth, brushed the fur on his head. The canine then looked for an outfit that he would wear on his date, as he needed to wear formal wear at the restaurant. Luckily, he found a suit and tie that he usually wore to funerals and other special occasions.
When he was ready, Tech met up with Rev. Like the coyote, the roadrunner was nicely dressed, though he did not wear a tie. They went to their destination, which happened to be a fancy restaurant at the corner of the street. Knowing that he was dressed correctly, Tech was relieved. However, he wondered why someone he had just met would invite him to have dinner at this restaurant. Clearly, Rev had more intentions instead of just being friends.
Entering the restaurant, Tech and Rev were taken to a table, being greeted by a bowl of breadsticks, salt and pepper shakers, silverware, and steak sauce. Once they were handed menus, they decided to order some food, finding it rather pointless to only eat breadsticks for dinner. Tech ordered lamb chops with a side of broccoli and a side of potatoes. As for Rev, he ordered a bowl of wedding soup and two bread rolls. Needing a beverage, they agreed to get a bottle of white wine, though they knew they couldn't drink it all. Despite that, Tech and Rev decided to eat and drink what they could.
Once they had received their food, Tech and Rev ate while drinking the wine they had ordered. When they were done, Rev paid the bill and left the restaurant with Tech. They walked back to the coyote's apartment, deciding to spend some time there. While inside, he served some coffee to his new friend, thinking that he would want some. Rev drank the coffee, not at all minding the offer. However, there was something else on his mind.
"That was pretty good." Tech spoke. "The food tasted better than I expected."
"I'm-glad-you-liked-it-because-I-didn't-know-where-else-we-could-go." Rev said.
"We should do something like that again." The coyote said.
"You-mean-like-tomorrow?" The roadrunner asked. "Or-even-next-week?"
"Whatever sounds better to you." The canine said.
Rev smiled, feeling giddy about doing something with Tech again. The coyote felt the same way, though there was something else to it. He could tell that the roadrunner was getting the same feeling as well. By looking each other in the eyes, they felt the feeling grow stronger, their smiles growing larger by the second. Tech walked closer to Rev, with the latter still sitting down. Their eyes were still locked on to each other, as if seeing something beautiful for the first time.
They kissed and separated for the evening, agreeing to see each other later.
After their first date, Tech and Rev continued to go out together. From eating at restaurants to going to see what was playing at the movie theater, they felt their relationship grow stronger. Nothing went beyond public displays of affection, though the roadrunner often packed some extra protection in case that happened. Despite that, the coyote continued dating him, even taking him out on some surprise dates. Things between them grew stronger, and their relationship became known to their friends and family. However, it seemed as if Tech and Rev were fated to remain boyfriends, as not everyone was in support of their relationship. In fact, they had received scrutiny from certain people, though they ignored said scrutiny.
Many considered Tech and Rev a lovely couple, wondering if they would spend the rest of their lives together. Some worried that they would break up, seeing as most relationships didn't last long. Their loved ones did not want this to happen, as the coyote and the roadrunner really brought the best out of each other. Little did they know, things would change in no time.
One day, Tech asked Rev to meet up with him at Alaskey Café. When the roadrunner arrived, he saw his coyote boyfriend sitting at the table, with the coffee they ordered the first time they met. After a bit of talking, the canine got down on one knee and took out a small black box. He proposed to Rev, asking for his hand in marriage. The avian accepted, even going so far as to kiss his newfound fiancé. With that out of the way, they knew they had to start planning their wedding.
The wedding happened six months later, being held at city hall. It had been organized by two of Tech's closest friends, siblings Ace and Lexi Bunny, with help from Daniel Duck, who happened to be a friend of both Tech and Rev. Waiting at the altar, the coyote watched as Rev entered the room, wearing a tailored tux like how he was. Once they were looking each other in the eye, the minister had them exchange nuptials and vows. After that, he pronounced Tech and Rev as husbands, uniting them in matrimony. They kissed, being met by applause and gushing.
Everyone was at the wedding, from their friends to the family. Rev's parents were in attendance, having warmed up to their son's relationship with Tech. Past acquaintances of the coyote and the roadrunner had shown up as well, being the girls who had a crush on them, not knowing what they liked. However, there were also those who were opposed to the wedding, having come to protest it and throw slurs at the newly married couple. Needless to say, they were thrown out of the after party by everyone else, getting called out for their ignorance and bigotry. Rev's family had even promised to teach these hateful people a lesson if they said more hateful words.
After the wedding, Tech and Rev had their honeymoon in Hokkaido. While there, they went sightseeing, ate some local cuisine, made some new friends, and visited historical locations. In the process, passersby showed their support for the coyote and the roadrunner in their new lives. Other than that, several others did not seem to care very much about their relationship. It wasn't out of prejudice, but simply because they were busy with their lives. Despite that, Tech and Rev had a great time on their honeymoon, their love for each other strengthening by the time it was over. Once they left, the people they met talked about what a lovely couple they were.
When they returned home, Tech and Rev decided to finish their time in college. As Tech was on his last year, he didn't have much to do before they got their degree. Rev was on his third year, so it would take him two years to graduate and earn his degree. In order to support themselves financially, the coyote and the roadrunner got jobs, working every weekend. The jobs paid well, so they had enough money to get through college and put food on the table. By the time Rev got his degree, Tech had started an electronics company, deciding to invent new technology for the future. Rev quit the job he had before, so that he could help his husband out in the business.
Currently, Tech and Rev are still married, but they do not have any children. While they liked kids, neither one of them considered adopting or finding a surrogate mother. Their company has become one of the leading electronics companies in the world, managing to sell seven billion devices in a single year. However, when they aren't working, the coyote and the roadrunner are at home, doing what couples do. While some may oppose their relationship, most are in support of them, even finding them friendly once they got to know them. By talking with Tech and Rev, these individuals grew closer to them, going from strangers to proud supporters and friends. As far as they were concerned, their new friends were a lovely couple, and nothing was going to change that.
Note: That was kind of a doozy to write, considering how I had to update other stories. Again, I apologize if it was somewhat obvious who the story would be focusing on. By reading the tags, it was easy to tell who the focus of the story would be. Despite that, among other things, I hope that the story wasn't bad. Maybe next year there will be a story featuring a different couple. Who knows? Anything could happen in the future.
Until next time, guys, this is Newcomer24, signing off. Peace!
