"I had no idea there were this many kinds of apples," I tell Ladybug has we head deeper into the grove. "Here's a fun fact: Not all apples are good in making pies," she tells me. I smile at her. "What?" "You have two apples on your cheeks, Little Bug. And if you were a apple, I'd pick you."
"Aww, your sweet, you know that?" Ladybug comes over to me, and wraps her arms around my waist. Its a perfect moment, here in the trees with the dappled sunlight, my Lady in my arms. "You even smell like a apple," she giggles. "Am I as sweet as pie?" she dosen't answer, burying her head in my chest. "You already know that answer," she finally mumbles. "You know, I've heard in America there's a apple called "First Kiss" and I think we should have ours."
I want our first kiss to be peaceful and quiet, and we remember it. "Okay," her voice is soft as her lips meeting mine. She tastes like the apples we've been picking all day, and I groan as she tangles her fingers into my hair. Its just her, me, and the apples….Bonk! "Ouch!" Ladybug yelps, jumping back, rubbing her sore head. "A apple just bonked me on the head!" "Are-you-you…" I cannot contain my laughter. "I'm sorry, Ladybug, your expression was priceless. Is your head okay?" "Its fine. We should be finding Mama and Papa anyway."
We find Tom and Sabine waiting in line at the check-out as we exit the woods. I stop Ladybug for a moment. "Wait, look." Tom and Sabine are holding hands as they wait, and Sabine feeds Tom a apple, laughing when he makes a sour face. "They're so happy," Ladybug whispers watching the happy scene, "so in love." she glances at me, finds me staring, and looks away.
"Look at all these apples!" Sabine exclaims. "Did you two have fun?" Ladybug gives me silent instructions not to mention the birds. "Besides Ladybug being bonked on the head, it was marvelous!"
Everyone is a happy mood as we head back to Paris, and Ladybug drifts off on my shoulder. I rest my head against hers, not caring if we have company. Besides, they're happy for us. I have to shift to take out my ringing phone, supporting Ladybug by placing my arm around her.
"This is Adrien," I answer and listen. Apparently its some magazine and social media agency wanting a spread on Adrien Agreste. It would be a one day shoot. "I don't really model anymore," I tell them. "Oh, the rumors are all over Paris that you've been spending quite a lot of time with Ladybug. We'd love to have her too."
Doing a shoot with her would be much more bearable, and I tell them all give them a call back. "We can have some apple ciammon tea and cookies in a bit," Sabine says happily as we unload the van.
"Papa, there's a note on the bakery door," Ladybug said, sleepily and she plucks it off reading it, her eyes widening. "What's wrong, honey?" Tom takes the note, reading it silently. "Tom?" Sabine finds my hand, and I give it a squeeze. "Our rent as been doubled, and if we can't make the money soon, I'll be forced to close the bakery. Excuse me."
The happy feeling of the day drains away like a leaky bucket as Tom walks slowly down the block. Sabine finds Ladybug's hand, keeping mine. "Let's go have that tea."
Ladybug pulls me upstairs later, and we cuddle on her chaise. "We can't let this happen, Adrien. The bakery is Papa's livelihood." "I know, love," I play with her silky hair, thinking. "But there could be a way to make the money." "How?" she sits up, all ears. "When you were napping a ad agency asked if you and I could do a photo shoot together. I know enough about shoots that it could really help Tom."
Ladybug sighs, her eyes serious. "Yes, we could, Adrien. But it would put you at risk. If Corvus or one of his minions saw it, they'd think we were dating. All it would take for me to give up my Miraculous is for you to be taken. But I don't know if we have much of choice."
I take her hand. "Do you remember when my father akumaitzed my bodyguard and we worked together as team before Cat Noir showed up?" she nods. "If we can work then as team, we can certainly do it now." "I'm willing, Adrien, but I wouldn't forgive myself if you got hurt."
The next day is actually quite enjoyable, and Ladybug is happy there's a Starbucks downstairs. Astra, who's in charge of the shoots tells us our first photo will take place at a tea pary with us clinking cups.
I add a little extra flair, musing with my hair and adding a 10/6 note to my top hat, pretending to be the Mad Hatter. The photographers lap it up as we clink cups and we enjoy a bite of food, before heading to a garden bench entwined with vines and flowers. Its all very peaceful.
I want to hang out after the shoot, but there's work I've been neglecting at the office, so we part ways at the studio, unaware of a crow watching us from the skyscraper above.
"Flutter, come look at this!" Corvus flipped through the magazine that Adrien and Ladybug had done their shoot on. "Yes, boss?" Flutter asked. "Look at these pictures. Even if Adrien and Ladybug try to hide their love for each other, its plain as day." Flutter nodded, true love sang on every page. "Your job is to entice Ladybug to design a suit for Adrien with our brand. Get to know her, be her friend."
Flutter shook her head. "No can do, My lord. She already knows me from the orchard." Corvus was about to transform with a screech, when he stopped, smiling a evil smile. "Your right, Flutter. But I may have someone else in mind."
