Summary: The spy that International Rescue 'tried' to plant in Spectrum gets her cover blown.
Notes: So, this is set about seven months after Shane Tracy's visit to Skybase.
Swearing… Which isn't very lady like, but then again, she went to School with Kallen and the rest of his crazy siblings/cousins…
Blown
2096
Her cover was blown…
Lady Penelope had asked her to join Spectrum to act as International Rescue's spy inside the organization, after Shane Tracy's Mysteron detector, found that the organization was infiltrated by the aliens.
She knew that the mission would be a dangerous one, but she didn't expect her cover to be blown before she had completed training as an Angel pilot.
Nor did she expect to see, the person who blew it.
"Dianne? What are you doing here?"
There always was the question about who Captain Mahogany was, and why International Rescue never saw his face or heard his voice, how his team always seemed to know IR's standard operating protocols…
But now it was pretty bloody obvious, why they never saw him up close, how his team knew how they worked…
Because Captain Mahogany was Kallen Tracy… Kallen FUCKING Tracy, the former pilot of Thunderbird Shadow – That had been killed by the Mysterons.
"I could ask you the same question – Mysteron."
The Spectrum instructor – former Angel pilot, Rebecca Drake - looked horrified, and Lady Dianne Simms realized that she either didn't know Mahogany was a Mysteron or that she wasn't meant to know about the Mysterons at this point in her training.
Mahogany sighed loudly, as he looked at Drake, "Last I had heard, Dianne worked for my aunt, Harmony," he told her. "I am pretty sure she told her what she knew about the Mysterons."
"She also told me what happened to you," Dianne hissed. "That you died when the Mysterons dropped a cliff on you, that they rebuilt your body and that Thunderbird Shadow blew you off the cliff when you got too close," she glared at Mahogany. "Spectrum was called and they said that they couldn't find your body, and considering Mysterons are meant to vaporise when they die, everybody concluded that you were dead."
"As they were meant to," Mahogany replied. "Spectrum lied, Colonel Scarlet and his team found my body at the bottom of the cliff and took me back to Skybase."
"So, Spectrum is compromised," Dianne growled.
"Not in the way you, and my family, are thinking," Mahogany replied. "The Mysterons have no control over me and my actions, same with Spectrum's other Mysteronized officer and his daughter."
"What are you saying?" Dianne asked. "That you somehow broke free of the Mysteron's control?" Dianne laughed hysterically. "And you expect me to believe this tripe? God, the first thing a mind-controlled person would say in this situation is that they have broken free."
"And that's the reason why we don't advertise the fact that this is possible," Mahogany replied. "It's only happened twice, Dianne, most people that get Mysteronized don't ever break free, if people hesitated every time they encounter someone who was, they would most likely die."
"Like you would care, if they did," Dianne snarled.
Mahogany let out an exasperated breath, "Okay, Dianne, let's say I was still under Mysteron control," he replied. "I still have all of my memories, and I know Tracy Island's security inside and out and no offense to Mom, Aaron and the rest of the family, I am pretty sure they would have been able to use my memories to find the Island and a work around to the Island's defences," he ran a hand through his hair. "They want my family dead, Dianne, why do you think I haven't tried to go home in more than seven years?"
Dianne stared at Mahogany, "And why didn't you try return home?" she asked.
"Because I didn't want to put them at risk," Mahogany replied. "Mysterons are slightly telepathic, they can sense if one is nearby, if they sensed me near the island and put two and two together…"
"They could launch an attack…" Dianne concluded, as she looked at Drake and realized none of this was surprising her. "Okay since none of this is surprising you, I am going to assume you are in on this, so are you one of the others that Mahogany mentioned?"
"Considering that the other Mysteronized officer is male, and his daughter is younger than Mahogany, I am obviously not a Mysteron," Drake replied. "You can do a blood test or use one of those fancy detectors that IR has to confirm that," Drake sighed. "I have rainbow clearance, that gives me access to the knowledge that we have a couple of Mysteronized officers and who they are – knowledge that you are not meant to have access to yet."
"So, what are you going to do now the cat out of the bag?" Dianne replied.
"Well, we could shoot you," Drake mused. "But that would be a waste of a potentially great officer, and besides," she jerked her thumb toward Mahogany. "I don't think he would allow us to do that."
"Damn straight I wouldn't," Mahogany replied. "Besides, I have a better idea to run past Colonel Blue," he smiled. "Aunt Penny put you up to this as a way to keep an eye on us, right?"
"Guess there is no point in denying that fact, considering what you know about me," Dianne answered.
"Well, I am going to suggest we keep you on and you do just that - keep an eye on us," Mahogany replied. "But you have to act as our official link to the Island."
"You're asking me to be a double agent?" Dianne replied shocked.
"I am not asking you to do anything against International Rescues best interests, Dianne," Mahogany reassured. "You can tell Aunt Penny that there are two of us and about the daughter – Phia and Keys already know that much – just can't tell them WHO we are."
"So, what if another Spectrum officer gets Mysteronized, and they mistake him/her as one of you?" Dianne pointed out.
"If any of us go near any of their personnel or ships, without clearance from Colonel Blue, they are to shoot us on sight," Mahogany replied. "They are to treat us like we are any other Mysteron – don't look at me like that, Dianne, those orders were my idea – unless Brain's and Matt have done something to increase the distance that we can be detected by, we can stay out of their range, and not trip the defences."
"Wouldn't it be easier just to tell them who you are?" Dianne asked.
"It would," Mahogany agreed. "But you know my family, they would want me back, regardless of the risk to them…" he sighed. "Don't you think I want to go home, Dianne? Because I do… I want be with Keys and the rest of them, getting to know my nieces, nephews and younger cousins, I want to introduce Clara properly to them…"
"Clara?" Dianne asked, now curious. "You have a girlfriend?"
Mahogany slapped his forehead, "Clara is Lieutenant Coral's real name," he replied sheepishly. "And she is now my wife – and no we weren't married when we rescued Shay, it's been a crazy couple of months to be honest."
Dianne stared at Mahogany, from what she was told about Mahogany and Coral, she knew the two of them were close and the fact that they were married shouldn't have come as surprise… But if Mahogany was who he claimed to be, and was Kallen Tracy, her big brother from another mother, that she went to boarding school with, this was a massive shock on top of the fact that he was actually still alive.
It also explained why Kesha was so close to Coral even though she had never physically met the Spectrum officer. She was Kesha's link to her brother, even though Kesha didn't know Mahogany was Kallen, as Mahogany was almost always in the background of those calls. Coral, for her part, probably wanted to get to know the family of her partner as well as give him a way to have contact with his family without them realizing he was still alive and as result they became good friends.
Contact that was cut off, when International Rescue's commander confiscated the communicators that Kesha and Sophia were using to talk to the Spectrum officers, Oh god, Dianne thought. Alan's going to kick himself when he realizes he cut off his own son… "This is a lot to process," Dianne muttered, as she ran a hand though her hair. "You were the one that tampered with Shane's detector, aren't you?" she asked. "You are the reason IR, thinks Spectrum is compromised…"
Kallen nodded, "I missed the backup system," he confirmed. "And before you ask how I know that, Phia and Keys reached out to Turquoise though our London office out about six months ago, that is how come they know that there are three of us, and I know I stuffed up, we haven't heard anything directly from them since," he sighed. "I was selfish Dianne, I just wanted to talk directly to a member of the family, to a have a little unfiltered contact with one of them, even if it wasn't my first pick – that would be Keys or my parents – but all I did was hurt Shay, and got myself cut off."
The pain, hurt and guilt in Kallen's voice broke Dianne's heart, this was a man who just wanted to go home, but because of the deal he was dealt he couldn't – not without risking to lose everything. "If I said I wished to pull the plug on this operation, would you have any other way to contact the island?" she asked him, after a few minutes.
"Not regularly," Kallen replied. "While Dr.'s Amanda Fielding and Edward Wilkie still have contact with Aunty Will, and my father-in-law is actually an old friend of the family, none of them are close enough friends have current Island clearance – as well as fact that the family don't even know that they work for Spectrum – which makes contact tricky."
Dianne nodded thoughtfully, at least Kallen wasn't completely alone with people who didn't know him or know of him – she had even met Wilkie a couple of times when she visited the Island in the early to mid (20)80's, so if Kallen hadn't blown her cover here, the Doctor probably would have.
But none of these people had any real excuses to contact the Island on the regular, unlike the system Kallen had in place before… "Does Turquoise truly have a thing going on with Phia?" she asked him. "Or was it a ruse to keep in contact with the Island?"
"Considering the fact that I told the Turkey, when I realized something was happening between them, that I don't give a flying rat's whose son he is, if he broke her, I would break him, then dump what was left of his carcass on Si's doorstep?" Kallen replied. "No, it wasn't a ruse, he was taking as much advantage of the situation as I was – and he is still annoyed with me for triggering the communications cut off."
Dianne sighed, when Phia heard Dianne was joining Spectrum, she was pretty sure Phia wanted to use her a communications bridge if she crossed paths with Turquoise, but that plan had been nixed when Penelope pointed out that Dianne was meant to be a mole in the Spectrum organization.
But her cover was now blown… The right thing to do would be to tell Penelope she got caught and quit Spectrum.
But quitting meant she would be leaving one of her sisters from another mister, in the lurch with no reliable way to contact her man – and if there was one thing Dianne knew from seeing the other Tracy's in relationships, when a Tracy fell for someone, they fell hard.
It also meant she would be cutting off a route of potential contact that Kallen could have with his family, Keys especially, and she could tell Kallen missed them terribly… Dianne highly doubted she would be able to look any of the Tracy's in the face if she left Spectrum and left Kallen behind.
"Well, it's a good thing, I don't want to leave Spectrum," Dianne said softly.
Kallen looked at Dianne in surprise.
"Don't get me wrong, the reason why I signed up was at your aunt's request," Dianne continued. "But I have been wanting to come clean, about my role at International Rescue, for months now, I just didn't know how, without losing the relationships I've made."
"Come again?" Kallen asked.
"I like it here," Dianne replied. "I didn't think I would, but I actually do, I can't explain it, I feel like this is the place I belong, where I need to be…"
Drake looked at Dianne, "I don't have a problem with keeping you on the books young lady, but Colonel Blue is going to have the final say," she said. "But I'm going to make it clear, Spectrum is now your employer, everything you do goes though us, anything you tell International Rescue has to be vetted by us." Drake sighed. "I wasn't kidding about the firing squad, and your lucky it's only International Rescue being snoopy, if it had been anyone else..."
"Understood Ma'am," Dianne acknowledged.
Drake turned to Kallen, "I will report this to Blue, and run your idea past him," she said. "Why don't you two catch up in the mean time since you're old friends."
Kallen nodded and Drake walked away.
Once Drake was out of earshot, Dianne turned to Kallen, "So, what exactly have you been doing these past seven years?" she asked. "Other than dying, joining an organisation your family can barely stand, finding a girl and getting married?"
Kallen snorted, "I could almost ask you the same question, Dianne," he replied. "Other than being an agent for my aunt and cousin, and joining Spectrum what have you been doing?"
Dianne slugged him in the shoulder, "Play nice, Kallen," she growled. "I asked first."
"You missed becoming friends with a Turkey, dying a few more times," Kallen replied, cheekily. "And Clara being pregnant…"
Dianne froze and her jaw dropped, Clara was the name of his wife, "Are you telling me that you are going to be a father?" she asked, stunned.
Kallen nodded, "She's four months along, now," he replied.
Dianne blinked, and then tackled Kallen in a bear hug, squealing, "Oh my god!" she said. "This is huge! I should be asking how this possible, but I don't really care – Your alive and having a baby!" she pulled back from Kallen slightly. "Keys, we need to find a way to tell Keys, and Clara – I want to meet her! Is she with you today?"
"No, she is with her parents on Skybase at the moment," Kallen answered sadly. "Her mother is ill, have you met the original Destiny Angel?"
Dianne nodded, sobering up as she let Kallen go, "I met her a couple of months ago, I thought she looked kind of familiar…" she answered. "She's Clara's mother, isn't she?"
Kallen shot Dianne a confused look, "Yes, she is," he replied. "How?"
"Keys showed me some of her sketches she did of Clara and Turquoise," Dianne answered. "So, I would know who to keep an eye out for," she sighed. "Is your mother-in-law going to be alright?"
Kallen didn't get a chance to answer the question, as Instructor Drake had returned. "Mahogany, Rhapsody, Colonel Blue would like to speak to the pair of you, in his office," she said.
"S.I.G." Kallen replied, as he and Dianne moved to obey the order.

After Colonel Blue gave Dianne clearance to continue her training, she didn't see Kallen in person for several months, while they spoke at least once a week over the coms – in which she got the chance to meet Coral and the rest of the Skybase Lieutenants.
In fact, it wouldn't be until after she completed her first official mission for Spectrum, a flight of honour for the funeral of the recently passed former Destiny Angel, Simone Metcalfe, Clara's mother, that she would meet Kallen and his wife in person.
It would also be the first time she met Clara's father – Colonel Scarlet.
Notes: So, I am slowly bringing in the original cast, but with a twist, since this is still based on New Captain Scarlet, hence Dianne in this.
I do have more to say on this, but I need to get a few more of my ducks in a row – Although 'Mysts' might give you a few clues on where I am going with this.
Lady Dianne Simms, Rhapsody Angel, b. 27th of April 2067.
The only child of Lord Robert Simms, Dianne met and befriended the Tracy's – particularly Sophia – when she attended the same boarding school as Jeff Tracy's grandchildren. She would go onto work for Lady Penelope as an agent of International Rescue until she joined Spectrum as an Angel Pilot in 2096.
