Ever since she and her family had moved to Gotham with their brother, Lynn could not think her life could get any more better than how it is now. She's an athlete by day, a hero's partner by night, and even during some times in the day, she can't help but wear the costume and go hero whenever it is convenient. She had to hand it to Gotham, it was a city that knew its sports and had Teams that were determined to win. Lynn was glad to be a support and rising star in Gotham Academy's football, basketball, soccer, and baseball, and even Hockey teams.
It took some convincing the school board from Lincoln to get her to join so many teams...or to join in general. Gotham Academy didn't have a girl's division and genders were segregated in order to participate in different studies. However, the board was eventually grateful that they made the decision since Lynn turned out to be determined to win every sport she participated in, becoming an inspiration for other students.
Baseball was a little tricky at first, and she thought that it was the beginning of a streak of bad luck. Fortunately, Lincoln was there to set her straight.
Two months ago...
The Louds/Waynes were returning from a Baseball Game that ended badly for Lynn. She was not in the best of moods, even when Lincoln tried to explain to her what exactly went wrong.
Lincoln:"Lynn, please listen. I'm trying to explain-"
Lynn:"You don't have to say anything, Lincoln! I know exactly what went wrong!"
Lori:"Oh, boy. Here we go again."
Lynn:"There was obviously an omen that flew past me before the game! Something that got me cursed with bad luck! I faltered so badly during that game, even after everything I did to prepare. Had my signature bat, worked out all my strategies, and convinced that pathetic excuse of a team of mine to agree to all the rituals I had to go through. And we still fell short! This has never happened before, so it's got to be that I've become jinxed."
Lincoln:"Is she always like this?"
Rita:"Unfortunately so."
Lynn Sr.:"It's not the first time to be honest."
Lisa:"This has happened twice before and every time we've tried to explain, she's ignore us."
Luna:"Or even accuse us."
Lola:"Or threaten us with a baseball bat."
Lynn:"Hey! You guys know I need you there! To ensure that fortune favors me throughout the game. It's part of the ritual."
Lucy:"Lynn, you know I'm a student of supernatural phenomena. Luck literally has nothing to do with winning a game of baseball."
Leni:"And even if what you say is true, wouldn't that mean that Lincoln being there kind of messes up your luck ritual thing?"
All heads turn to Leni, as what she said should've been kept to herself. Now Lynn looked like she was having some form of realization.
Lynn:"Yes...that is true...Lincoln being there messed up my winning streak. Every other game, my team had always come out on top. But now that Lincoln's here..."
Lori:"Lynn. No."
Luan:"Stop."
Lisa;"Cease."
Lincoln:"Where is she going with this?"
Lynn:"Lincoln, you know I love you, but I cannot afford to have anymore loses. You're gonna have to be banned from coming to anymore of my games."
Lincoln:"You can't be serious, can you, Lynn?"
Lynn:"I'm seriously serious, Lincoln! I'm banning you from coming to any of the future games! Now leave me be! I have to make things right!"
Lincoln was giving Lynn a skeptical eye, seeing how crazy she was being over one bad game. If this keeps up, this household might start to fall apart. He had to get her out of this craziness and fast. And he already had an idea that might just work.
Lincoln:"Okay...Alright, Lynn. I'll respect decision."
Lynn:"Good. Now-"
Lincoln:"I'll arrange for you to be sent back to Royal Woods tomorrow, okay."
Lynn:"Wait, what?"
Everyone did a double take on what Lincoln just said.
Lincoln:"Well, if you think I'm bad luck, then you obviously wouldn't want to live in my bad luck-filled household, and play as Robin whenever I go out and be Batman, right? So, I'll send you back home, where you'll have all the good luck you can have. (to Rita) You do have some relatives that Lynn can live with back in Michigan, do you?"
Rita:"Um...Yeah. She can live with Aunt Ruth. She's always willing to take in the kids whenever it's convenient for her."
Lynn Sr.:"She does say that the girls are always so well-behaved when they stay with her."
The girl's shuddered at the thought of staying with Aunt Ruth, since her home was suffocating from all the cat fur and expired food she kept around. Among other things she makes the sisters suffer through.
Lincoln:"Then I guess it's settled. Too bad, Lynn, but since you don't wanna stay in a place where there's bad luck, I guess it's off to Auth Ruth's with you."
Realizing that if she doesn't drop all this craziness right now would be far worse than giving into it, Lynn immediately ran to the feet of her brother.
Lynn:"Oh no! No, no, no, no, no, no! I was just kidding! I don't think you're bad luck! You're probably one of the luckiest guys in the world since you're rich! And you're Batman! How much more lucky can you get from that? Ha ha haha ha ha! I'll just...head up to my room now. We can talk later, okay."
And with that, Lynn zooms to her room, leaving Lincoln and the rest of the Family with triumphant smiles as he adjusts his suit.
Lincoln:"Yeah, that's what I thought she said."
Alfred:"(walks by with a tray) Miss Lynn can be rather superstitious and unethical at times, hmm, sir?"
Lincoln:"So it seems, Al. But as long as we can snap her out of it, she won't be a problem."
Alfred:"Very good, sir. Now who wants tea?"
After that, Lynn learned to let go of her superstitions and worked on becoming a better athlete without the need of all her crazy rituals. Things actually turned out better when she finally decided to hear her family out and make up for her mistakes. As for this moment, she was buying some new sports equipment, readying herself for her next upcoming games. She was also excited about the playoffs on TV tonight.
Lynn:"Can't wait to see the Gotham Knights tonight. I hoped they fixed their mistake and learned to run off tackle to make a pass."
Random customer:"Ha! You like the Knights? Girl, you gotta know that they were never good to begin with!"
Lynn:"(yelling) I don't recall asking your opinion, you jerk! You better learn not to mess with Lynn Loud!"
The customer immediately backed off after that. Lynn's reputation as a tough athlete followed all throughout the city. Since Lincoln made it entirely clear to all of Gotham that he had found his birth family and they were with him now, the Louds became a well-known and 'respected' family all throughout town. 'Course, some of the Elites pondered as to why Lincoln would want to bring a regular family into the legacy of the Waynes, but he didn't care. And Lynn gets to be feared by a lot of people around Gotham, in or out of the costume.
Lynn:"(at checkout) Just this and whatever you recommend for tonight's game."
Cashier:"Right away, ma'am."
Speaking of the costume, the time to suit up was now as an explosion could be heard outside of the store. There was a commotion and which everyone turned to see someone throwing...footballs? Exploding ones at police cars. The guy was wearing a blue suit, silver armor on his left arm, and what looked like a hockey mask.
Lynn:"(internally) ...Sportsmaster. That guy gives all the world's best games bad names. But I thought he was at Coast City. Why is he here?"
The girl also took the time to look into Batman's list of criminals. She knows her stuff now as she needed to find a way to go and hero a little.
Lynn:"(pushes her stuff to the cashier) Can you deliver these to Wayne Manor and send the bill over there too?"
Cashier:"Yeah. Sure. We can do that."
And with that, the girl headed out, right when another one of Sportsmaster's explosives went off, covering the place in smoke; the perfect cover to get into gear.
Sportsmaster was on the run when he came into Gotham. He was hoping for a clean getaway as he was trying to slip through the city without being recognized by the authorities. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be as his picture was on the news. So, one quick motorcycle chase later, he was forced to resort to playing a little game as he did not let up on any of the gadgets that he had at his disposal, about to throw another explosive ball...when it was short out of his hand by a shuriken. And then a cable embedded itself into the ground, right beside where he stood as he turned too late to see Red Robin coming down and kicking him in his masked face.
Oh yeah, Lynn changed her alter ego to Red Robin, passing down the mantle of the Original Robin to another one of her sisters. But that's a story for another time.
In any case, she landed on the ground in front of the Officers who held their fire, just as Lawrence, the former "Crusher", Crock got back up and pulled out a bladed hockey stick.
Red Robin:"You messed with the wrong city, grunt."
Sportsmaster:"I'm gonna make you regret that penalty kick."
Red Robin:"Hmph. We'll see who's penalized. (to Officer) Stand aside, boys. I got this one."
Officer:"Uh...I'm not too keen on taking orders from a 10-year-old."
Red Robin:"I'M 13!"
And after being offended like that, Red Robin engaged with Sportsmaster. The sports-themed villain was not at all expecting his day to go like this, as much to his surprise, was actually giving him a run for his money as he was forced to go on the defensive with his hockey stick. Red Robin was relentless, striking with precision and fury as she was hoping to put this guy down fast. In fact, when Crock tried to deter her with an exploding hockey puck, she managed to send it back his way and nearly blow him to kingdom come. Luckily, his suit took most of the damage before Lynn was able to knock him out with a blow to the head.
Red Robin:"Well, that takes care of that. With the time I've saved in dealing with that Ivy League's reject, I can head back in time for the game."
But that is when, as if on cue, she was receiving a call through her communicator and when she patched through, it was Oracle.
Oracle:"(via com) Sorry for the inconvenience, Lynn, but your sports game tonight on Television is gonna have wait until you work on a case."
Lynn:"Ugh, seriously? You had to've picked the moment to call?"
Oracle:"Sorry, sister. That's just how the daily life of a superhero is."
Red Robin:"Whatever. What do you have for me now? And please tell me it's a big case so that I feel like it's worth my time."
Oracle:"Very big, in fact. Mr. Dent...Two-Face...has been harboring money and printing plates through garbage disposal units and facilities across Miagani Island."
Now Lynn knew it was really serious. Harvey Dent was a respected District Attorney and Lawyer who was friends with Lincoln during the time he grew up in Gotham. The day on Lincoln's sideways date with Ronnie Anne was the day that was ruined when half of Dent's face got burnt, and those scars don't run skin deep. He became insane when he felt like he had been betrayed by the city and turned to a life of crime. He had all the resources to build up an army of thugs and rise up the ranks of the criminal underworld. One of the crimes he tends to do frequently is robbery of all kinds of money from Gotham and its sister cities. Now, he's one of the most current problems for the Bat and the Birds.
Red Robin:"Send me the best location on where I can find him. I'm on this.
With connections he had to certain projects he started to try and make Gotham a better, safer, even cleaner place, Harvey Dent was able to install such locations as temporary bases of operations for his new life of crime. Garbage disposal facilities were now being used to process and launder all the money his rising gang had been stealing from all across the coast. And with some brand new connections within the organized crime families, he can ensure the power of the gang by simply wishing some of the dirty money and wiring it back to them so that control over what is considered minor law violations...minor by Gotham standards, of course. Drugs, Gambling, Prostitution, they're met with slaps on the wrist.
But not to the Bats...or the Birds.
Red Robin:"(drops in) I'm in, and you were right, Lis. There's a whole bunch of stolen money around here...and what looks like one big incinerator in the center of the room.
Oracle:"Well, it was originally a waste disposal, but you know that by now. You need to find the main thug who should be operating everything from the control booth. Take out as many of those criminals as you can along the way."
Red Robin:"Copy that. Time to get to work."
Oracle:"Oh, and I'll let you know about the playoffs when this is over."
Red Robin:"Please don't. I'll watch it on my own time."
There weren't that many places for Lynn to hide in plain sight...but there were enough above and below the goons. They didn't know what hit them, or put them in a choke hole as Lynn moved fast, high above their heads or being the last thing they saw before knocking them out. But they soon became aware that someone was taking them out faster than they can shoot, and started spreading out.
Thug 1:"Keep a lookout, I'm checking on out wounded."
Thug 2:"I'm with ya."
Thug 3:"Where is it? Is it the bat?!"
Red Robin:"(sneaks up on him) Nope. I'm worse."
It wasn't really long before Lynn was able to take out those who remained...and made sure none of them felt into the burning pit...or herself. That was the worst part, since she did a lot of hanging, there weren't that many places to grip up high. But she didn't mind, since she liked the challenge.
Red Robin:"Okay. That's the idiots taken care of. Now for the so-called boss."
In the control booth, the last minion was unsure what to do since the rest of the guys were taken out from what he can only guess that he was the Bat. But, he was surprised when he saw the Bat's protege at the door, and found it hard to believe that she took out everyone.
Red Robin:"Hi. I'm gonna make this real easy for you. Where's Dent?"
Main Thug:"Ha! You think I'm just gonna talk? I ain't scared of a little twit like-"
He wasn't ready to take the girl's staff to the gut and be nearly forced out the window above a pool a molten junk.
Red Robin:"Where?!"
Main Thug:"Okay, okay, I'll talk! He's in the main office! I swear!"
And with that, Red Robin pulled the thug back into the room and knocked them out with the staff's end.
Oracle:"Wasn't that a little too far?"
Red Robin:"What? It's not like I dropped him."
The Waste Disposal Company that Two-Face has been taking advantage of has a private building that he made into his own Fortress. And due to his insanity, half of the building...seemed burnt. One side was white with unfractured marble and neatly placed furniture, the other was black with burning cracks, torn apart and flipped furniture; it was like that in every hallway, every room, the whole place was one big two-faced house of horrors. One which Red Robin was walking through at the moment.
Two-Face:"(Through the PA) Alright, you idiots. One of the Bat's little brats is somewhere in the halls! Fan out, find the punk and bring her to me."
Harvey Dent:"Though if she were smart, she's quit now and run."
Lynn found it a little weird that the guy had switch between a normal voice and a groady voice. Like he was actually two people stuck in one body. She would take pity on him if it wasn't her job to take him down.
Oracle:"The maps show that Two-Face would be hold up in the main grand hall west of your location. The place is heavily guarded so you might wanna be careful."
Red Robin:"No sweat."
Oracle:"Keep in mind that there are more heavy goons than before and even automatic sentries that'll turn you into swiss cheese if you're not careful."
Red Robin:"(looks down from a balcony and sees the sentries) Yeah. Thanks for the heads up."
Thug 5:"Did you hear how that Robin weirdo took out the guys in the incinerator?"
Thug 6:"How can one little dude be able to do that?"
Thug 5:"I think it's actually a girl."
Thug 7:"Oh, that's just great. Now we have to worry about some brat kicking out asses?"
Thug 6:"I'm not scared of some punk who names herself after a bird!"
Thug 5:"Yeah? Well...me neither."
Thug 7:"If she comes around, she's gonna get her little red butt ass terminated."
Scowling at that remark, Red Robin decided to give a little surprise, using a well-planted explosive to handle their heavy gunner before quickly taking down the rest of them with ease. She also quickly took out the sentry guns before they could fire on her.
Oracle:"The junction box on the side of that room should open the door ahead. And if you like for Mr. Dent to shut up, I can hack the PA system for you."
Red Robin:"Nah. The more he talks, the more I wanna punch him."
Oracle:"Just keep in mind that there are a whole bunch of enemies ahead."
Red Robin:"Good. They won't know what's coming."
Managing to open the door and seeing the bunch of thugs up ahead, Red Robin decided to deter them a little with a new gadget that she likes to call a snap-flash. Like she said before, the thugs never knew what hit them.
Thug 8:"Hey! What the-!"
One boom and flash of light later, the goons were ready to have a little girl in a red armored costume come in with a staff.
Red Robin:"You guys are making this too easy!"
Thug 9:"I'll cut you up, freak!"
Red Robin:"(knocks him out first) You sure about that?!"
It took no less than a minute to take down all the goons in the hall before Red Robin turned to the door. However, it was not as simple as kicking it down or hotwiring it.
Oracle:"Looks like the door is locked by a sequence mechanism. Lynn, now might be a good time for you to brush up on your hacking skills."
Red Robin:"Nah. That's more your department, Lisa."
Oracle:"(sighs) Naturally. Remind me to take back that remote hacker when you get back."
A few things twisted and turned before the pattern overhead seemed to be proper position. But, just before Red Robin could walk through the door, a rifle shot fired at her and she barely had any time to get out of the way as there was one last thug she had to worry about, a sniper of all things.
Thug 10:"Heads up, birdie!"
Red Robin:"I am so sick of these guys."
Oracle:"Well, no you can use the bullet-proof shield that we gave you for case scenarios such as-"
Red Robin:"(brings out shuriken) Yeah...no."
And with a curve shot, Red Robin managed to get the sniper in the face with pinpoint accuracy, causing him to stagger and fall through the window behind him. Red Robin followed shortly after and landed on top of the thug...right in the middle of a whole bunch more, with Two-Face sitting on a throne in the Foyer. But Lynn acted quickly and threw a whole bunch of shurikens at the thugs around, knocking a few off their feet before engaging in battle.
Two-Face:"Ah! The Batman's little twerp! How nice of you to make your way here!"
Red Robin:"Harvey! So nice to meet you in person!"
Two-Face:"The name's Two-Face! Harvey Dent is dead!"
Red Robin:"Well, that's too bad! (blocks blows with her staff) 'Cause the city could really use him right now!"
Two-Face:"The city betrayed us! Now we take what we've earned!"
With all the thugs surrounding her, one could say that Lynn was in over her head, but the truth is that she was enjoying how easily she was kicking butt. The thugs were wreckless and sloppy, even when they tried going for guns, Red Robin made sure that they never got a chance to fire. The more he was seeing this, or rather they were seeing this, the more livid Two-Face became as he casually continued tossing his coin up in the air and catching it in his palm, continuously flipping it. The coin is what guided him, as it's been with him his whole life, and helped his judgment, to determine the fate of others, the city, and himself. All of it was at the flip of a burnt-sided silver dollar. When he saw the Girl Wonder finish off the last of his goons, he looked to the coin landing in his palm and said that it came up tails.
After everything, Red Robin thought was unstoppable...until she took one to the chest.
Two-Face:"Nice try, girlie. You came all this way...just to be stopped like this."
Too bad Dent didn't realize that hitting her in the center didn't do much other than stagger her. Batman always made sure that the armor was strongest in the center of the chest, right where the symbol is.
Oracle:"Ease through it, Lynn. He's right in front of you."
Breathing through the pain, Red Robin could feel the heat radiating from the end of the gun's barrel as Two-Face was pointing right at her head.
Two-Face:"Should've stayed home, kid."
She could see him doing one last flip to determine her fate, but that was for Lynn to do on her own. And such, at that critical moment, she used her staff to knock the gun out of his hand, and spun around before knocking himself off his feet. Dent landed on the ground hard as Red Robin stood above him, using the tip of her staff to knock him out as she caught the coin in her other hand.
Red Robin:"Two-Face secured."
Oracle:"It is truly a shame at what happened to him. Tell me, Lynn, do you believe there's hope for him."
Looking down at the hand that caught the coin, she opened it, and something rather miraculous, landed on its edge, neither side facing her.
Red Robin:"Who knows what fate has in store for this guy..."
After turning Dent over to the authorities, Lynn rushed back home as fast as she could and made it in time the game's kick-offs.
Lynn:"(sighs) Almost missed it. And nothing of value was lost..."
Lincoln:"(at a distance) Lynn! What's this bill for sports equipment!? It's over a hundred dollars!"
Lynn:"Uh, oh..."
