We're getting closer to the baby being born (finally)!
Enjoy!
After spending the last week of break and New Years with her friends, Christmas Break ends too soon for Chloe's liking. The day she has to leave for her first day back Chloe is surprised to find her mother knocking on her bedroom door. Scully, who spends more time at Mulder's then the office at this point, comes close to dragging her daughter out of bed when the teen never answers her questions about being awake. Finally, after all of her blankets are taken off of her bed, Chloe opens her eyes and finally agrees to get up.
"You have five minutes," Scully calls out as her daughter slams the bathroom door. With a sigh, Scully glances at the coffee pot wishing she could have a regular, caffeinated cup. Instead, she brews her tea and tries her hardest to stay calm. When Chloe leaves ten minutes later, hair damp and in no mood for breakfast, but happily taking the thermos of coffee her mom offers, Scully breathes a sigh of relief before getting ready for her day. Heading into the office, Scully makes her way to the office, only to be stopped by Skinner who asks to see her in his office.
"Yes, Sir," She answers entering the elevator with her boss. She walks behind him in the hallway and shuts his office door behind her once they enter his office. Gesturing to his chair, he announces, "Agent Scully, take a seat."
She nods and sits in the chair offered her asking, "You wanted to discuss something with me?"
Clearing his throat, Skinner tries to figure out the best way to begin. Seeing Scully raise her eyebrow waiting for him to start, the man starts, "It's involving your maternity leave."
Instantly, Scully tenses thinking the policy changed. Noting his agent's posture, Skinner reassures, "It's nothing bad, we just noticed you never set a date when to take it."
Breathing a sigh of relief, the agent answers, "Do you need a date now?"
Thinking over her question, Skinner shakes his head answering, "By the end of the day."
"Thank you," Scully replies before asking if she can leave. Skinner lets her go, and she immediately heads down to the basement. Entering the office, she finds Mulder with his feet up on the desk reading papers.
"Hey, you okay? I tried calling," Mulder states when he hears the door shut. Nodding, Scully answers as she places her purse down, "Skinner needed to talk to me about maternity leave. I forgot to put when I'd be taking it."
"When did you want to take it?" He asks taking his feet off his desk and setting them on the floor. Standing up, Mulder goes to help his girlfriend out of her coat when she answers, "When my doctor told me to."
With a grin, Mulder answers, "How long do you have?"
"Until the end of the day."
Scully ends up leaving half an hour earlier than Mulder and giving her answer to Skinner before leaving. Heading back to Mulder's apartment, Scully lets herself in and finds a note on the table from Chloe about going to Anna's to do homework.
The next couple weeks go about the same, with Scully knowing she will be on maternity leave soon. Part of her dreads not working, and she begs Mulder to bring files for her to look over when she starts taking half days to ease herself into her leave.
"Mulder, we need to start thinking of names," Scully remarks one night as they sit on the couch looking over case files.
"Got any in mind?" Mulder asks with a smirk.
"A few," Scully answers absently putting a case file aside and grabbing Mulder's hand. Pressing his hand to her stomach, Scully watches her boyfriend's face light up.
"Really packs a punch doesn't he?" Mulder teases. Rolling her eyes, Scully answers, "Or she."
Standing up, Scully goes to the dining table and picks up a book. Walking back to Mulder, Scully hands over the item which Mulder takes with a questioning look on his face.
"I circled names I like," His girlfriend tells him. Putting the book to the side, Mulder tells her that he will look at it later. Putting her hand on his shoulder, Scully soon snakes it up to his hair asking him to look through the names then. Pulling Scully closer, Mulder puts his head to her stomach and can feel the baby kick.
"What do you think?" Mulder asks Scully's stomach once he pulls away a little. "Should I look through the book and figure out a name for you?"
"Mulder," Scully chides lightly a smirk on her lips.
"I don't think Mommy is too happy about me talking about her in front of her," Mulder teases and looks up at his girlfriend who rolls her eyes. Motioning the spot beside him, Mulder states, "Sit with me and we can look over them together."
Smiling, Scully concedes. Sitting down, the red head picks up her forgotten case file while Mulder thumbs through the book.
"You picked out the name Eleanor?" Mulder teases once he actively starts looking at names.
"As a possibility," Scully starts. "What would you have picked out?"
"Not Eleanor," Mulder answers, "You'll make our kid old from birth. What about something like Kayla or Audrey?"
Putting her file down, Scully thinks over the suggestions. After a moment, she states, "If we do have a girl, I want to name her Melissa, but as a middle name, like you did with Chloe."
Kissing her forehead, Mulder answers, "We can do that. Any ideas for first names?"
Scully shakes her head. Then, playing devil's advocate, Scully remarks, "It could be a boy."
Thinking about it, Mulder asks, "You have a name?"
Having had a name picked for a while, Scully replies, "William."
Eyes wide, Mulder listens as his girlfriend explains, "After your father, and mine."
A smile spreads across her boyfriend's face telling Scully she knows he agrees.
"Mom!"
Both adults look toward the sound of their daughter, before Scully gets up to help her daughter with whatever it is she needs.
"Hey, what do you need?" Scully questions opening her daughter's bedroom door to find her shirt tangled around her shoulders.
"I'm stuck," She pouts. Laughing to herself, Scully helps her daughter out of her shirt. Heading back to Mulder, Scully is still laughing a little to herself at her daughter's wardrobe malfunction.
"She okay?" Mulder asks from his seat on the sofa. Nodding, Scully answers as she sits down, "I can't believe we only have two years left until she goes to college."
"I know, and we have a whole 'nother eighteen with this one," Mulder comments putting his arm around Scully and placing his hand on her stomach. Just then, the baby kicks causing Mulder to smile. Smiling at Mulder, Scully replies, "Only five more weeks."
