Chapter 5: The First Step Part 2

A blackbird is flying slowly and magnificently, right up to the moment where it gives a final shriek and Ruby crashes through it in a burst of feathers as she plummets downward.

"Birdie, no!" Ruby screamed. Ruby fires a few rounds of Cresent Rose to slow her down, then turns her weapon into its scythe form to catch the branch of a tree in her blade and fall downward at a slower pace.

Weiss, armed with Myrtenaster, summons a white snowflake circle under her and leaps off it to the forest below.

Ren descends (With Nora Valkry briefly being seen next to him at a faster speed) and spins in the air, eventually using StormFlower's blade to spiral around the trunk of a large tree and hit the ground, brushing off his clothes before looking up to see...

"Wooh-hoo! Yeah! Ally-woop!" Yang shouted. Yang is soaring right over the treetops. It looked like she was having the time of her life. She is using her gauntlets and its fiery force to push her through the air further and further north, spinning and laughing with each blast, even when she is crashing through the leaves of a tree and leaps off two trunks to tumble to the ground.

"Nailed it!" Yang said. With that, Yang ran off.

Pyrrha, her weapon in sword form and armed with a shield, crashes through several trees and rolls on a branch, immediately shifting her blade into a rifle and looking through the scope at Jaune as he continues to scream and fall helplessly. Pyrrha coolly transforms her weapon again to its spear form, takes a moment to evaluate her throw, and rockets the javelin deep into the forest until a "THUNK!" Is heard.

"Thank you!" Jaune yelled in the distance.

"I'm sorry!" Pyrrha shouted, waving.

As for me, I am armed with my God Killer sword. I slashed through the trees that got in my way. I shot some spiderwebs and latched onto a tree in the distance. I swung myself around using my webs and landed on the ground.

"Yes! Perfect landing! Now to find Ruby and Yang." I said to myself. I was about to go looking for Ruby when she suddenly landed in a crouch, startling me.

"Ruby," I said.

"Hi, Lana. No time to talk now, Gotta find Yang." Ruby said. At a surprisingly fast speed, Ruby darts off, leaving red petals behind her as she runs. How did she do that? I tried running to keep up with her fast speeds, but it is impossible to keep up with her.

"Hey, Ruby! Wait up!" I shouted.

"Gotta find Yang! Gotta find Yang, gotta find Yang, gotta find... YANG! YAAANG!" Ruby shouted. Ruby and I continued running. "Oh, this is bad, this is really bad... What if I can't find her? What if someone finds her first? Well, there's always Jaune... He's nice! He's funny!... I don't think he's very good in a fight, though. Ooh! What about Blake? So mysterious, so calm... plus she likes books! Then again, I'm not sure I'll be able to hold a conversation with her... ugh!" Ruby said. Ruby shakes her head of the daydreams. "Okay... Who else do I know in this school? There's Yang, Jaune, Blake, Lana, and..."

Time seemed to slow down as Ruby skidded to a halt in front of Weiss. Weiss turns to face Ruby and I. She stops just in time for our eyes to meet. Great, now I have to be partners with her. There is a long pause, but it ends with Weiss turning on her heels and walking the other way. Ruby follows her slightly.

"Wait! Where are you going?" Ruby shouted. Ruby stops and kicks the ground dejectedly. "We're supposed to be teammates..."

"Ruby, just let her go..." I said. Ruby looked disappointed. "Hey, Ruby? How did you do that?" I asked her.

"Do what?" Ruby said.

"You know, move super fast like you just did?" I said.

"Oh! That's my semblance." Ruby said.

"Semblance? What's a semblance?" I asked.

"It's like your own superpowers. Mine is called Petal Burst. You don't have a semblance?" Ruby said.

"No... Well, I do have powers but I was born with them. I have spider senses and electricity, and I can turn invisible as well as stick to the walls." I explained.

"Wow, that's so cool!" Ruby said.

"Yeah, but having a semblance would be cool too. I hope I can get mine one day." I said. Ruby puts her hand on my shoulder.

"You will. And I can help you unlock yours. Yang and the rest of the team, when we form one can help too." Ruby said.

I smiled. "Thank you, Ruby," I said.

"Anytime. Now let's go find Yang and Weiss." Ruby said. I sighed when Ruby mentioned Weiss, but I was all for finding Yang. Ruby and Yang were the only people I was really comfortable hanging out with. I was comfortable hanging around Pyrrha and Jaune too, so I was hoping I could be on a team with them.

Meanwhile, in the forest, Weiss is seen struggling to get past the trees.

"Ow! Ugh," Weiss grumbled. Weiss pushes past plants in her way. She brushes herself off and sighs in relief when she hears a voice above her. Jaune struggles to free himself.

"Come on, come on! Stupid...!" Jaune grumbled.

Weiss sees Jaune hanging a few feet in the air by the spear embedded in his hood and the tree behind him. As he gives up trying to pull it out, he looks down and sees Weiss. Jaune gives an embarrassed laugh and wave. Weiss heads back in the direction she came from. Jaune groans in dejection. Weiss passes by me and Ruby and pulls Ruby by her hood.

"By no means does this make us friends," Weiss said. Ruby is overjoyed when she is dragged away in the bushes.

"You came back!" Ruby cried happily. Weiss stops when she sees me not following her.

"Are you coming or what?" Weiss asked me impatiently.

I sighed. "I guess," I said. I reluctantly followed Weiss as she continued to drag Ruby into the bushes. In the tree, Jaune sees the scene and frantically waves his arms.

"Hey, wait! Come back! Who's gonna get me down from here?" Jaune shouted.

"Jaune?" Pyrrha said from below the tree. Jaune looks down at his savior. "Do you... have any spots left on your team?"

"Very funny..." Jaune said, crossing his arms. He eventually looks down and gives her a smile, which she returns.

Weiss is trudging through the forest, with Ruby a ways back behind her. I struggled to keep up with Weiss too.

"What's the hurry?" Ruby asked.

"I will not let my mission be delayed because you're too slow. I swear if I get a bad grade because of your-" Weiss's rant was interrupted when a smiling Ruby suddenly appeared next to her. "What the?"

"I'm not slow, see? You don't have to worry about me!" Ruby said proudly.

"She really isn't slow, Weiss. I've seen it." I said. Weiss is looking back, slightly amazed.

"When did...?" Weiss started, but Ruby interrupted her.

"Weiss, just because I don't exactly know how to deal with people doesn't mean I don't know how to deal with monsters," Ruby said. Ruby puts her arm around a skeptical Weiss's shoulders. "You're about to see a whole different side of me today, Weiss. And after its all over, you're gonna be like "Wow! This Ruby girl is really really cool... and I wanna be your friend!"

Ruby disappears in a shower of rose flowers, which Weiss waves away from her face just as she hears crackling and rustling in the bushes around her.

"You may be fast, but you still excel at wasting time!" Weiss shouted to Ruby. There is silence and I hear more noises. "Ruby?"

"Weiss, did you hear that?" I asked. Weiss didn't respond to me. I felt my spider senses going off. I knew there was something wrong. It almost felt like I was being watched. The forest darkens, forcing Weiss and I to lean in to try and find our new partner as a pair of red eyes are seen glaring behind her.

"...Ruby?" Weiss called again.

Multiple pairs of red eyes stare at us from the bushes and a deep growl is heard. We turn around until we spot a large jogged Beowolf emerging from the bush behind us.

"RUBY!" Weiss and I screamed.

The Beowolf gave out a loud roar. I grabbed my sword and prepared to fight.
