Kaida and her group arrived in Hulbury Town, a bustling coastal settlement. The sun shone brightly, casting shimmering reflections off the expansive ocean that bordered the town. Hulbury was known for its vibrant marketplace, the grand fountain in the center of town, and the impressive lighthouse that guided ships safely to port.
As Kaida's Garchomp and Camerupt pulled the carts through the main gate, the guards halted them.
"What is the meaning of your visit, bringing so many people with you?" the older guard demanded, his eyes scrutinizing the large group.
Kaida stepped forward confidently. "The Queen has granted a new Duke title and land. We are here to acquire Poké Balls and other essential materials in bulk, which is why we brought the wagons."
The older guard nodded and gestured to his younger counterpart. "Go inform Baroness Nessa."
After a few minutes, a man with baby blue hair, clad in shining silver armor, approached the gates. His presence was commanding, and the guards snapped to attention.
"I am Steven Stone, personal guard to Baroness Nessa," he announced, his voice carrying authority. "You may enter, but be mindful. Anything you break, take without paying, or cause disruption in public will be met with equal punishment."
He turned sharply on his heel, and the two guards opened the gates. As Kaida and her group entered Hulbury, the townspeople couldn't help but notice the newcomers.
"Remember," Kaida instructed her group, "we are here to acquire supplies, not for leisure. Spread out and avoid crowding. We have a home to return to."
The town of Hulbury was picturesque. The central fountain was a stunning work of art, with water cascading down the intricate carvings of Water-type Pokémon. The streets were lined with vibrant stalls selling all sorts of goods, from fresh seafood to handmade crafts. Pokémon like Mantine, Pelipper, and Wingull could be seen soaring above, adding to the lively atmosphere.
Kaida led a smaller group towards the marketplace, where a variety of shops offered Poké Balls, potions, and other essentials. She approached one of the vendors, an elderly woman with kind eyes.
"Good day," Kaida greeted. "We need to purchase a large quantity of Poké Balls and other supplies."
The vendor smiled warmly. "Of course, dear. How many are you looking to buy?"
Kaida quickly explained their needs, and the vendor began to gather the items. "We'll have these ready for you shortly. It's quite a large order, but we appreciate your business."
Steven Stone watched from a distance, ensuring that everything proceeded smoothly. His Metagross, a massive steel-blue Pokémon with a formidable presence, stood by his side, deterring any thoughts of mischief.
Back at the Dukedom
Meanwhile, back at the developing dukedom, Byron and Kleo were hard at work. Byron, overseeing the construction, barked orders to the villagers and refugees. "Make sure those walls are reinforced! We need them sturdy enough to withstand any potential attacks."
Kleo, inside Draven's tent, pored over the maps and plans Draven had left behind. "So this is what he had in mind," he murmured to himself, tracing routes and settlements with his finger.
Kleo's mind buzzed with ideas. They were spending more money than they were bringing in, and he needed to find ways to generate income. He took a pen and began sketching out possible trade routes and locations of nomadic merchants.
"We could establish trade routes," Kleo muttered, "using the mercenaries we'll eventually recruit to form a merchant protection group. This would ensure safe travels and attract traders."
Kleo's eyes lit up as he thought of more ideas. "We could also set up markets within our territory, encouraging locals to trade goods and services. A marketplace would attract more people and stimulate the local economy."
He jotted down notes furiously. "A Pokémon Center would be essential too. Travelers and trainers passing through would need a place to heal their Pokémon, and we could charge a nominal fee for services. Additionally, a training facility could attract trainers looking to hone their skills, bringing in further revenue."
Kleo leaned back, satisfied with his brainstorming session. "If we can implement these ideas, we'll have a steady stream of income to support our development and pay taxes on time."
At the Market
Back in Hulbury, Kaida and her group finished their purchases. The carts were now loaded with crates of Poké Balls, potions, and various other supplies. She approached Steven Stone to inform him of their departure.
"Mr. Stone," Kaida called out, "we've completed our business and will be heading back."
Steven nodded approvingly. "Safe travels. Remember, Hulbury welcomes you as long as you abide by our rules."
Kaida thanked him and gathered her group. "Let's head back. We have what we need."
As they left Hulbury, Kaida couldn't help but admire the efficiency and order of the town. It was a place of prosperity and peace, something she hoped to replicate in their own dukedom.
Back at the Dukedom
By the time Kaida returned, the sun was beginning to set. She found Byron overseeing the construction of a new wall section, his Skarmory perched nearby, keeping a watchful eye. "Kleo," Kaida called, finding him still immersed in Draven's plans. "We've got the supplies. How are things here?"
Kleo looked up, relief evident in his eyes. "Good timing. We're making progress, but we need to stay vigilant. I've been working on plans to generate income and sustain us." Kaida raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Do tell."
Kleo grinned and began to explain his ideas about trade routes, markets, and the Pokémon Center. Kaida listened intently, nodding in agreement. "Those are great ideas, Kleo," she said. "If we can pull this off, we'll be well on our way to establishing a thriving dukedom."
Byron joined them, wiping sweat from his brow. "We've still have a ways to go, but I believe we can do it."
Together, the three of them set about finalizing their plans. With Kaida's successful trip to Hulbury, Kleo's innovative ideas, and Byron's leadership in construction, they were more determined than ever to create a safe and prosperous home for everyone under their care.
