Chapter Three
Andy sighed.
I wonder if I could just avoid going back to the station.
Andy was leaving the hospital when she bumped into someone and lost her footing.
"Oh, my god. I am so sorry." The person said and when Andy looked up she saw Amelia. "Oh. Hi, Herrera."
"Hi, Dr. Shepherd," Andy mumbled and got up.
"You okay?" Amelia asked, seeing the stress on Andy's face. Andy nodded.
"Yeah. Just got to get back to the station." Andy told her and continued walking out. "Sorry for bumping into you."
"Wait," Amelia called out. "Are you okay?"
Andy sighed. "Yeah, I just got to get back to 19." Andy turned to walk away but Amelia reached out to grab her arm.
"I can tell you're not okay, Andy." Andy didn't say anything. "What's going on?"
"It's just been a wild couple of months and at the pride parade I kind of lost it on some protesters" Andy admitted.
"Lost it, how?"
"What did you call her? What did you s- say it again. I would leave a kid with that woman any day. You? Never. What, you think that makes you a man? Men don't hide behind masks and scream at little kids. You're a coward."
One of the protesters throws something.
"You wanna throw something? Throw something again, I dare you!" Andy yelled at the protesters before Ben pulled her away.
"Let's just say I snapped when I should've just ignored them." Andy played with her hands. She knew she should of just ignored them but with all the confusing emotions she was already feeling she didn't know what to do.
"Hopefully next time, he'll think twice before taking his rage out on innocent people."
Amelia looked at Andy surprised. "why didn't you?"
Andy looked at Amelia. "I just, I'm figuring out who I am and I just… fuck I don't even know." Andy paused. "I'm bi," Andy told her, and Amelia's face changed into an expression Andy couldn't read. "On the last call, I kind of accidentally outed myself to the team. I was talking to someone who was struggling with their sexuality and was on the top of a roof, wanting to jump. I was trying to connect with them, and I didn't notice my radio was on." Andy sighed. "I don't know what to do."
"Andy, I can't tell you what to do, but go to the station and just have an honest conversation. If I've learned anything about 19 over the years, you guys are a family who always have each others' backs." Amelia rested a hand on Andy's shoulder. "If you ever need someone to talk to, I'm here, okay?" Andy nodded.
"Thank you. I should be getting back to the station." Andy said.
"Do you want a ride back, so you don't have to walk over in all your gear?" Andy hesitated but nodded at Amelia's offer. "Alright, come on." Amelia guided Andy out of the hospital and to her car.
It takes a few minutes to get to the station and when she does she reaches to open the car door but freezes.
Amelia reaches over and puts a hand on her thigh. "It'll be okay, Andy, okay? If you ever need to talk I'm here, okay?" Andy gave Amelia a small smile and opened the door. She grabbed her turnouts from the backseat.
"Thank you, Amelia. I appreciate the ride and the talk."
"Any time, Herrera. Any time." Amelia smiled and watched her walk into the station before driving off.
Andy walked into the station and into the barn, putting her turnouts near the engine and saw everyone in the barn. "Meeting in the beanery in five," Andy told them, not waiting for a reply and walking out of the barn.
Shorter chapter but a setup for the next one.
