Chapter 48: run for your loved one
The next scene shows Miguel waking up in the mausoleum surrounded by marigold petals, glad he was back alive and safe he slowly got up and then turned his direction to where the gituar was quickly grabbed it and bolted out of the mausoleum.
"Oh thank god". Luisa sighed
"Well good news at least you made it". Camilo said
"Now that's out of the way RUN, RUN!!" Rosa yelled
"I always wondered why you were running ". Abel questioned
"And now you know now can we focus on the task at hand". Miguel asked
He bolted past the graves that were still there and covered with marigolds running as fast as he could down the hill, zooming past the plaza and following the marigolds to his house. Meanwhile Berto and Abel were asleep on a bench when Berto stirred awake by spotting Miguel and in doing So knocking Abel of the bench.
Tio Berto: "There He is". He pointed
Enrique was out looking for his son still when he heard Berto shout and he turned and saw him putting a hand out to try and stop him but he was ignoring him.
Enrique: "Miguel Stop!" He tried to stop him
"Like that's gonna do anything Tio ". Rosa said
"Mijo I've never seen you move that fast". Carmen replied
"Yeah helps if you practice ". Miguel breathed
Mirabel smiled and chuckled lightly they were more alike then she thought. Elena smiled and sighed at what was just said.
"You really did all that Mijo just for me?" Coco asked
Miguel stood up and went over and hugged his Mamá Coco tightly and she smiled and returned the hug.
"Are you serious, of course I would dementia may have gotten you but I had to at least try one last time and you mean the world the to me you all do". Miguel smiled as he looked at all the family and they smiled and hugged him.
"Who are you and what have you done with our Miguel?" Gloria said
"She's right what happened?" Oscar joins in
He laughed and and sighed.
Miguel then burst through the gates and was almost there to Mamá Coco's room when Elena blocked his path.
Abuelita Elena: "Where have you been?" She asked
Miguel didn't have time to answer questions right now he only had one mission get to his Mamá Coco and save Héctor's memory.
Miguel: " I need to see Mamá Coco please". He begged
Elena tried to block his path as best as she could Miguel didn't want to argue now, then Elena spotted the gituar and her eyes went wide with anger.
"Okay with all do respect Mamá Elena we appreciate you BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE LET HIM THROUGH". Mirabel yelled to the screen and to offscreen Elena
"I agree Mija, I know you think you're protecting me but you're making it very difficult ". Coco said
"I know Mamá lo siento ". She apologised
"Estas bien Mija all that matters now is that I am okay". Coco reassures hugging her daughters
Elena then looked towards Héctor and smiled apologetic.
" And I'm sorry to you too Abuelo I should have listened to Miguelito but instead I let my judgement get In the way affecting your memory I'm so sorry". Elena sighed
"It's alright Mija you were just looking out for everyone I understand all that matters now is that I'm here and I'm never leaving again". Héctor smiles
"As are we all". Pedro called as Both families huddled together
"Here we go i'm so proud of you all . You have no idea how much you guys have improved your communication skills have gotten so much better every single one of you I'm so proud". Layla called
"As am I ". Casita joined
They all smiled.
Abuelita Elena : "What are you doing with that give it to me". She reached for the gituar but Miguel was quick to move and ran quickly to Mamá Coco before Elena could do anything
Abuelita Elena: "Miguel Stop-" Miguel Shut the door in her face and lock it from the inside
"I'm probably going to get punished for this aren't I?" Miguel winced as he looked at his grandmother
"No I do think being grounded for running away was punishment enough, just as long as you promise never to do it again ". Luisa said
"I promise ". He nodded
His Mamá then hugged him tight and kissed his cheek.
Miguel then took a breath and then looked straight over to Mamá Coco quickly jogging to her side gituar in hand while Elena was banging on the door trying to unlock it with the help of her son Miguel could only hold them off for so long so he had to be quick.
Miguel:"Mamá Coco can you hear me it's Miguel I saw your Papá remember Papá?
But nothing poor Coco was just staring out into space not remembering a thing and Miguel tried his best to jog her memory.
Miguel : "Please If you forget him he'll be gone forever". He begged crying
He then showed the gituar to see if that would jog her memory but nothing she was still staring off into space, Miguel heard his Abuelita and Papá knocking on the door telling him to open it but he ignored them.
Miguel then pulled the back photo out of his back pocket turning her head and showed to her pointing at what should be Héctor but nothing.
Miguel: " See there is Papá remember Papá ?" He pointed crying begging for her to remember
"I'm sorry Miguelito I'm sorry I let you down". Coco looked sad as she cuddled Miguel
" No don't you dare blame yourself don't you dare put the blame card on yourself don't turn the tables on yourself it's not gonna work you have no need to apologise dementias no easy feet so don't you dare blame yourself". Miguel stood his ground
"He's right Mi Amor you couldn't help it's Not easy ". Julio said
"But-" she stopped
"No no don't want to hear it". Miguel smiled
"Mijo I-" she cut off
"You're here and that's all that matters". Miguel joined
Miguel then stood up and sighed he felt like he wanted to cry knowing he was not going to keep his promise to Héctor he looked so sad. Just then Enrique and Elena along with the rest of the family burst in Elena looking mad.
Abuelita Elena: "What are you doing to that poor woman".
Enrique came up from behind him and looked very mad and disappointed as he looked down on him.
Abuelita Elena: "It's okay Mamáita".
Enrique: "What has gotten into you!!" He put his hands on his hips
Poor Miguel broke down in tears and cried his father softened at that sight of his son and embraced him as he cried and kept him tight in his embrace.
Enrique: "I thought I had lost you Miguel ".
Miguel: "I'm sorry Papá ".
Luisa : " We're all together now that's what matter". She stoked his head as she joined his embrace with her husband
Miguel: "Not all of us".
"It's okay Mijo you tried". Héctor had a small smile
"Trying is not enough". Miguel stood his ground
"There just had to be another way and I'm not giving up". He adds determined
Héctor smiled at that statement knowing he was going to find a way Imelda joined in on the smile.
Socorro then held her brother's hand and smiled a reassuring smile.
"How are you going to- Rosa stopped
"I don't but I'll find a way". Miguel smiled
"I know you will Mijo. " Coco smiled
Elena then stepped up to Miguel anger still there but now died down.
Abuelita Elena: "Miguel you apologise to your Mamá Coco ".
Miguel had gotten out of the embrace from his parents and then went to his Mamá Coco.
Miguel: "Mamá Coco-" He stopped when his toes hit the gituar and he looked like he had an idea coming.
"Mijo you're not gonna-" Héctor stopped speechless
Miguel nodded with the biggest smile towards his grandfather.
"I always keep my promises ". Miguel smiled
"No, that was… I always wondered why". Elena stopped
"And now you know". He replied
Mirabel smiled and chuckled and Miguel winked backed she giggles. Socorro smiled at her brother, Rosa and Abel still left speechless.
Elena was getting impatient as she tapped her foot waiting for Miguel to apologise.
Abuelita Elena: "Well apologise".
Miguel then gripped the photo he was holding stepped over the gituar and to the Side where Coco was still staring off into space while the rest of the family watched at what was happening .
Miguel then put down the photo and grabbed the gituar.
Miguel: "Mamá Coco your Papá he wanted you to have this". He picked up the gituar and stuck the first cord.
Elena was mad and tried to snatch the gituar from Miguel But Enrique kept a firm hand on his Mamá as he stopped her wanting to see.
Enrique: "Mamá Wait!!"
Miguel (singing/crying):
" Remember me though I have to say goodbye
remember me don't let it make you cry
for even if I'm far away I'll hold you in my heart
I'll sing a secret song to you each night we are apart
Remember me though I have to travel far
Remember me each time you hear a sad guitar".
Both families huddled together as they watch the scene unfold, no dry eyes in sight Pepa and her rain cloud proved so. Héctor was still speechless as he watched he couldn't thank Miguel enough for this. Imelda cuddles close to her husband happy to have him back and Coco in tears too at the fact she could remember Again and hugged her Papá.
"I can't believe you did it". Abel gasped
"Me neither ". Rosa joined
Manny and Benny smiled as they watched, Socorro joined them and cried happy tears.
"I'm gone I can't do this". Layla said crying
"Do you mind if I join you". Casita asked
Miguel still can't believe sometimes that he still managed to break the curse, he breathed a sigh of relief knowing that Papá Héctor finally was remembered. As Mirabel cuddled him close and watched as tears also fell down her face.
"We did it". She whispered
Miguel nodded softly and smiled a watery smile.
"It's okay". Mirabel reassures
As Miguel sung slowly she started to move back to reality Her fingers twitched and slowly Miguel smiled as she moved her head to look at Miguel as she recognised the melody and her eyes had a little sparkle In Them.
Luisa: "Look".
The rest of the family watched on with stunned silence at what was happening and still couldn't believe it.
Coco then started to sing along with Miguel as she smiled the biggest smile finally out of this big endless loop in her mind and finally remembering and smiling for the first time in ages.
Miguel & Coco (Singing):
" And know that I am with you and the only way that I can be
until you're in my arms again remember me ".
Miguel smiled at what was happening on screen. Héctor still couldn't believe what just happened on screen for the first time in a really long time he had seen his Coco smile.
Imelda hugged her daughter without saying a word and smiled knowing she is back to her normal loving caring way and Coco hugged back.
Julio sighed and smiled and kissed his wife and both families cuddled around Coco happy that she had regained her memory.
Coco then went over to Miguel and hugged him tightly and he hugged back and smiled.
"Thank you Miguelito so much for everything for bringing me back I couldn't be more grateful ". Coco smiled
He smiled and chuckled .
"I'm just glad you're back that's all". He smiled
"I still can't believe you managed to find a way Mijo Gracias Muchas Gracias ". Héctor hugged him
"What did I tell you I don't break promises and there is always a way". Miguel replied
Coco smiled they finished the song the biggest slime in her eyes as she looked at Miguel and he smiled back at her.
Elena was heard crying and sniffing from the other side of the room Coco then looked at Elena and smiled.
Mamá Coco: "Elena what's wrong Mija ?"
Elena was still crying with joy as she sniffed.
Abuelita Elena: "Nothing Mamá Nothing at all".
Coco then looked back to Miguel and smiled.
Mamá Coco: "My Papá used to sing me that song".
Miguel: "He love you Mamá Coco your Papá he loved you so much". He cried
Her eyes lit up at those words that were just said and her smile grew even wider.
"I always have Mija both you and your Mamá ". Héctor smiled at Coco
"I never doubted it not one second". She chuckled
Imelda smiled as she hugged both her daughter and her husband happy to have them back in her life.
"One things for sure that Carbron will never see the light of day again". Imelda smiles
"I'm still here you know". He sneered
Imelda was about to say something when Mirabel winked knowing she had an idea then out nowhere a sword scraped Along his bone chipping away.
"Be lucky I don't damage that bone or that Señorita Layla doesn't throw you back in that prison cell". She declared
Ernesto shrunk in his seat at what was happening and he didn't want to get in trouble. Meanwhile both families were shook that Mirabel even knew how to use a sword as it disappeared from her hands.
"How did you know how to do that". Camilo asked surprised
"I'm with Camilo on this one Mija How?" Bruno joined just as shook
"Practice, Besides I can do that with my eyes closed He's lucky he doesn't see what I can do with a bow and arrow". She smiled
"I don't want to know". Isabela shivers
Miguel was absolutely amazed and terrified at the same time and was speechless.
"Don't mess with Mira when someone messes with family ". Héctor says
Imelda winked and smiled at her granddaughter.
"You have been warned ". Camilo shapeshifters into Mirabel
"Ha ha very funny". She mocked
Miguel smiled and looked directly into her eyes.
"What?" She coaxed
"Is it possible I've just fallen more in love with you ". Miguel whispered
"All because of that". She pointed to Ernesto
"No your fire and fearlessness I didn't think it was possible but yet I've fallen in love all over again". Miguel smiled as he blushed
"That may be so, but I love you just as much". She sighed
She pecked his check and walked off back to her seat and as she waked back Miguel watched with love and adoration for her completely smitten.
Both families snickered at what was happening and smiled.
"He is sooooo smitten". Abel chuckled
"Yep". Rosa joined
Coco then looked up at Miguel's tear stains on his face and then cupped his cheek as Miguel leaned into her touch.
She smiled and he smiled relived.
Coco then opened her bedside drawer and then rummaged through the draw Miguel also looked at what she was doing and pulled out a book filled with letters and drawings as she opened to the page with at least the top of the photo.
Miguel: "I kept his letters, poems he wrote me and…" she stopped as she handed him the missing piece of the photo
Héctor was speechless at what just happened, Coco just smiled and hugged her father and laughed softly.
"You didn't Mija ". Imelda smirked
"What do you think I was gonna throw away everything.. you have met me Mamá right?" She joked
"I never thought I would've been so glad you disobeyed me". Imelda smiled as she hugged her daughter
"Well I knew we would need it sometime Besides you didn't really give me a choice". She sighed
Imelda knew she was right and sighed.
"That doesn't mean I still don't love you any less". She smiled
"I know Mija ". Imelda smiled
"Papá?" Coco asks
"Gracias Mija ". Héctor smiled
"I couldn't erase my memories of you know matter how hard I tried.. not that I ever did". Coco said
"How I deserve you Mija ". Héctor chuckled
"I'm lucky to be your daughter ". Coco smiled
Héctor smiled softly and hugged his daughter gently.
Miguel looked at the photo with surprise but he then smiled and grabbed the rest of the photo and pieced it together there with stern strong Mamá Imelda and adorable little baby Coco is Héctor smiling big gripping his gituar while standing next to his wife and his daughter right where he belongs.
Then Miguel looked up at Mamá Coco listening as she told the stories about her Papá with intent and love as she passed down the stories.
Mamá Coco: " My Papá was a musician, he and Mamá used to sing such beautiful songs ".
Héctor and Imelda smiled and hugged their baby girl thanking her for everything she had done in remembering them.
Imelda and Héctor smiled felt like a weight had been lifted of their shoulders.
"You still have the most beautiful voice I have heard ". Héctor whispered
Imelda blushed lightly and smirked.
"And you are still the clumsy musician I fell in love". She chuckled
Coco smiled and sighed.
"Honestly you two are just as bad as each other ". Coco sighed
Both smiled at each other and Héctor secretly gave her kiss on the cheek.
Miguel then hugged Mamá Coco gently and the rest of the family were watching with love…
