Okay... so there's a lot of fluff in the chapter, and this chapter is a bit slow... it shows a lot more of the day to day life of Ed and Roy... So I'm sorry if this chapter displeases you... it was hard to write... with certain things having to happen for the plot to proceed, but not knowing how to go about initiating those critical scenes... It's hard and stressful... I'm dead now like drained of energy... see you next chapter.

Chapter 4

Ed had pulled most of Roy's books off the shelf and was now sitting on the floor with the vast expanse of knowledge spread before him. The front door opened, Roy finally coming home from work. He hung up his coat before turning to see the mess Ed had created, "What's…. Going on here?"

Ed glanced up at him, "Oh… I'm trying to figure out what to research…"

"Well… if you get tired take it easy… you have four more days."

"Yeah… exactly, I only have four days to decide what I'm going to research for the next five months…"

Roy walked into their bedroom changing, "Any ideas so far?" He called from the back room. He came out wearing sweatpants and pulling a shirt over his head.

Ed sighed and shook his head, "No… none yet…" He rubbed his lower back groaning. "God… this gets worse by the day…"

Roy squatted down next to where his blonde lover sat. He looked at all the books and random pages they were flipped to, "How long have you been at this?"
Ed rubbed his eyes, "I don't know… what time is it?"

Roy shrugged while flipping through a book, "Around eight…"

Ed thought back, "I started at… like five…"

"Don't lie…" Roy said looking at him, "You look exhausted…"

The blonde sighed, "okay… like 10 a.m., but I'm not gonna listen if you tell me to stop…"

Roy nodded and kissed Ed on the cheek, "Do you ever?"

Ed shook his head absently while burying his nose into a book. Roy stood up and went to the kitchen, to find himself something to eat.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Roy went to be relatively early that night, and Ed wanted to stay up late into the hours of the early morning, but he was in too much physical pain. He crawled into bed around 11. Ed squirmed, trying to get comfortable, Roy was dead asleep next to him, snoring evenly.

He turned on his side, his lower back began to throb uncomfortably. He turned on his back, the weight shifted to his belly and pressure slowly started to increase on his hips. He sighed in frustration and laid still for a few moments before he felt an itch creeping its way across the dry and stretched skin of his stomach. He began to itch fervently

A phantom hand in the dark grabbed his wrist, Roy mumbled still half asleep, "Don't…"

Edward groaned quietly, "I know… but it's just so itchy…" He saw the shadowy figure of Roy slowly sit up. The older man leaned over and gently ran his fingers under his pregnant lover's tank top. He lifted the thin fabric and kissed Ed's stomach gently. He circled the pads of his fingers across the bulging surface of Ed's baby belly.

Roy sat up again and reached over, turning on the bedside lamp. He blinked a few times and opened his eyes, Ed squinted back at him. The sleepy colonel looked at the clock on the wall, it was hardly 2:30 a.m.

Roy yawned, "I'll be right back…" He got up and left the bedroom, it looked like he headed towards the bathroom. He returned a second later holding a bottle of lotion. He sat down on the bed and crossed his legs. He motioned for Edward to sit in his lap. The blonde complied. Roy turned the lamp off again. He put some lotion in his hands and rubbed them together warming it up.

Edward relaxed into his shadowy lover's chest. Roy gently placed his hands on Ed's swollen, stretched, and itchy belly. Roy rested his head in the crook of Edward's neck, just softly breathing in his scent. His hands moved in a circular motion. They sat there for what felt like hours, but Roy didn't stop until he was sure Edward was fast asleep. His head lolled onto Roy's shoulder and his mouth hung open. He snored softly.

Roy shifted and slowly laid down so Edward's head was resting on his arm. Still asleep the pregnant blonde curled into his Colonel.

Roy took one last deep breath before drifting back into a dreamless sleep.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Ed woke up around 7 the next morning, he went straight to the kitchen and opened the fridge. He pulled out the carton of milk and poured himself a big glass, then he drank the entire thing. Ed hated milk, but he couldn't get enough of it. He drank it all the time, he poured himself another glass and took it into the living room. Again, he engrossed himself in the alchemy books trying to find something remotely interesting enough to spend five months researching.

Roy got up around 8:30, when he emerged from their bedroom Edward couldn't help it, he had to steal a glance. Roy always looked so surreal in the morning. His hair was tangled, His eyes distant and lifeless, He would hunch over, still half asleep. Ed couldn't believe this Roy Mustang was the same, Colonel Roy Mustang.

Ed looked back down at his books, a pink blush spreading across his cheeks. Roy clanked around in the kitchen, making a pot of coffee no doubt. Sure enough, a few minutes later he walked into the living room holding a steaming cup. He was a bit more animated now, his eyes were alert and focused. Ed's eyes flicked towards Roy, "Good morning, colonel."

He took another sip of coffee, "Morning." He said in reply. "Milk again?" Roy smirked and raised an eyebrow eyeing the tall glass on the coffee table.

"Yeah, your spawn really seems to enjoy it…" He shuddered, "Nasty…"

"Yet you drink it…?"

Ed nodded, "It's weird… I still think it's nasty… and I can't stand the taste… but I crave it… this sadistic child enjoys torturing me." He glowered.

"Really now…? I highly doubt that Edward… Your body probably craves it for all the nutrients."

"Tch. Whatever…" He flipped a page in his book.

"Any luck thus far?"

Ed groaned and shook his head in despair, "Nothing… Nothing interesting!"

"Hmm… try calling Oliver, he might have some ideas… plus, you need to work the travel dates with him…"

"Yeah…" Ed sighed, "yeah…"

Roy stretched and yawned, Ed's eyes were glued to his toned body every muscle flexed. He traced all the lines of Roy's chest with his eyes, he was transfixed. He missed his body, now he was just fat. He was brought back to reality when he felt a sharp ticklish sensation from his belly. He jumped and fell back on his ass. His eyes were wide and his hands circled his abdomen.

"What…?" Roy sounded panicked, "Ed what's wrong?" He was leaning in towards Edward.

Ed stopped when he felt it again, a little tap against his hand and the tickle in his abdomen he sighed, "Oh thank god…"

"What?!" Roy was frantic

"The baby was kicking… I didn't know what it was… I thought something was wrong…"

"The baby was… kicking?" Ed nodded and smiled "Can I feel?" Roy was reaching towards him.

Ed scoffed, "You're always touching my belly, and now is the one time you ask permission?" Roy placed his hands on the blonde's rounded tummy he waited and within a few moments he felt two quick little taps against his hand. His eyes went wide a smile spread across his lips. He leaned down and kissed Ed's stomach affectionately.

"Do you think it's a boy or a girl?" Roy asked looking at Ed.

Ed shrugged, "a girl?"

Roy smiled, "I think it's a boy!"

Ed looked at his belly, "What would you name him?"

Roy thought for a moment, "Something strong… like Thomas…"

"Thomas?" Ed repeated sounding unsure…

"Well, that was just an example…" Roy planted another kiss on Ed's stomach before he stood up, "I'm going to go get ready for work…"

Ed nodded and scanned all the books sitting before him… Now was as good a time as any to call Oliver. He got up and walked to the kitchen. He dialed Oliver's number, "Hello?" He sounded groggy

"Oliver! It's Ed, did I wake you?"

"No, I've been up all night reading… I'm just tired… How are feeling? Is something the matter?"

"Oh, no, it's nothing like that. I was just calling to set up what days you wanted me there for check-ups…?"

"Oh Yeah! Well… you have to submit your research topic by the end of the week, so maybe… Monday?"

"Alright, yeah that sounds good."

"Speaking of your research Ed, how is that going?"

Ed laughed nervously, "Well… I can't find a topic… Roy said I might ask you… if you have any ideas…" He trailed off.

"Hmmm… y'know I recently read a paper published a few years ago about transmutation of space… it was abandoned because the alchemist working on it died in Ishval…"

"Wait… you mean like… teleportation?"

"Mmmhmmm, Is that interesting enough?"

"Yes! I would very much like to read that paper you have when I get there…"

"No problem, I'll drop it off at Al and Winry's place so it's there waiting for you."

"Thanks!"

"Mmmhmm," There was a loud noise on the other end then Oliver quickly said, "I'll see you next week Ed." The line went dead. Ed hung up the phone.

Roy rushed from their room brushing his hair into place with his fingers. His uniform was perfectly in place, everything well adjusted.

"Why are you in such a hurry?" Ed stuck his head out from the kitchen.

"I'm being reviewed this morning… and I forgot… and now I don't have any time…" He pulled on his boots and stood up. He planted a kiss firmly on Ed's lips, "I'll be home late tonight…"

"I'll probably be up… by the way I need the forms for research submission, could you bring them home tonight?"

"You figured out what you're doing?"

Ed nodded while straightening Roy's collar, "Yeah, I'll tell you more about it later… now go, or you'll be late for the evaluation…"

Roy placed another quick kiss on his pregnant boyfriend's lips before rushing out the door.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Throughout the day, Ed couldn't research since the only published works he knew of were with Oliver. Instead he distracted himself with cleaning. He started by doing dishes, and cleaning the table and counters. Then he started scrubbing the dusty cupboards and the floor.

He picked up the mess he'd made with the books on the floor, then he straightened up the bedroom. He hated acting like the little house wife, but he was bored to tears and the distraction was welcome since it took his mind off his aching back and throbbing hips.

Ed slowly worked his way in every room, eventually managing to clean the entire house. He was folding laundry when Roy came home. He quickly glanced at a clock, it was almost 11. Time had just flown by he hadn't even noticed…

"Wow… it's… clean… in here…"

"Yeah… I've been cleaning all day. Welcome home." Ed collapsed on the couch and sighed realizing just how much of a toll being up on his feet all day had taken on him. His ankles looked swollen and so did his feet.

"Here…" Roy placed a stack of paperwork next to Ed's spot on the couch.

"Thanks." Ed said while flipping through the papers.

"What's the topic?"

"It's the transmutation of empty space… I've decided it'd be easiest to start at the molecular level… by looking at the space between molecules and trying to transmute that…"

"I'm intrigued… can't wait to read about your findings." He leaned over the edge of the couch and placed a kiss on Ed's lips, "but for now I'm exhausted, so I'm going to go to sleep"

Ed nodded, "I'm going to fill out this paperwork… then I'll be in bed in a bit."

Roy kissed the top of his head, "won't you come to bed with me?"

Ed cocked an eyebrow a smirk on his face, "I thought you were exhausted…"

Roy crawled over the edge of the couch and straddled Ed's legs. He pushed his shirt up just enough so his belly was exposed… He peppered Ed's bulging stomach with butterfly light kisses and then tugged at Ed's shirt trying to indicate he wanted it gone. Ed obligingly slipped it off and tossed it away.

He ran his hands up and down Ed's sides, his smaller lover quivered beneath him. Roy's hands paused at Ed's pecks. He rubbed the sensitive skin of his nipples between his thumb and forefinger eliciting a moan from his lover.

Ed snaked his arms around Roy's shoulders, and in response the older man buried his head in Ed's neck he nipped, and sucked the soft skin, slowly he traced his tongue downward and ran it over Ed's now perky and pink nipples.

Ed groaned, a whimper escaping his lips. He placed his hands on either side of Roy's head and lifted so he would meet his gaze, "St-stop…" His face was rosy with lust. Roy shifted his position and Ed felt his impressive bulge rub against his leg. He gasped, "not… not here…"

Roy pushed himself up he was now leaning over a disheveled Ed. He looked like a mess, his body was blushing with arousal. He panted softly, his eyes were glazed with lust. Roy purred, "Are you alright…?"

Ed nodded still panting, "not here… I just cleaned…"

Roy's expression fell flat, "That's what you're worried about…?"

Ed started to grumble, "Well… you try cleaning the whole damn house… it's exhausting…"

Roy sighed, "alright… alright…" He scooped up Edward in his arms and carried him to their bedroom. He put him down on the bed. Ed shifted making himself comfortable.

"Take off your uniform." He demanded while leaning back into the pillows.

Roy teased, "you know… there's this thing called foreplay…"

"Yeah… but I'm tired… and there's a lot of buttons…" Ed said lazily.

Roy turned his back to Ed, "Alright, but you better be prepared to make up for it with your mouth," as he turned around to face Ed he saw his arm tucked under his head, eyes closed and breathing softly. He sighed and laid down next to his now sleeping boyfriend. It only took a few seconds before he passed out as well.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The day before Ed leaves:

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

By the time Roy got up in the morning, Ed had already been up for hours. The dark haired man expected to see his pregnant lover lounging about somewhere, but instead he was on his hands and knees in the bathroom scrubbing the floor, and bathtub. Roy grabbed Ed's elbow and pulled him up so he was standing, "What are you doing… why are you scrubbing the bathroom…?"

Ed wiped his forehead with the back of his hand and sighed, "My back hurts all the time and my hips hurt all the time." He sighed tiredly… "I find that keeping myself distracted helps a lot…"

Roy nodded, "Okay, but not this…"

Ed shook his head, "I'm going to scrub the floor Roy… it alleviates the pressure on my hips, and makes my back feels better…" He got back on his hands and knees and continued scrubbing.

"Ed…" his voice trailed off, a hint of annoyance in his tone.

"If you're so worried then don't watch!" He snapped back.

Roy sighed, Ed had become rather irritable in the prior week, "Edward… please… don't strain yourself… what about the baby…?"

He growled in response, "The baby… your baby has been keeping me up for weeks… I ache all over and this is the only thing that gives me relief… You put this thing inside me, so don't you dare try to tell me what I can and can't do when my freedom is already so limited because of this!" Ed had gestured towards his stomach, he huffed angrily.

Roy sighed, now he felt incredibly guilty. Ed saw the look across his face and exhaled calmly, he stood up, his hands on his lower back bracing himself for the sore pain to hit. He placed a hand on Roy's shoulder to steady himself, "I know you're worried… and only trying to look out for the baby, but I can tell when I'm straining myself…"

Roy grabbed Ed's hand, "tomorrow morning you leave for Resembool… at least let me worry over you, during the time I still have you…" He placed a kiss on Ed's forehead.

"You shouldn't go to work today…" Ed mumbled quickly.

"Oh?" Roy turned and raised an eyebrow smirking at Ed, "does somebody want to get frisky?"

Ed scoffed, "No…" His face turned red, "I'm just gonna miss you while I'm gone… that's all…"

Roy smirked, "You're going for two weeks Edward… you'll be back soon enough."

Ed scowled, "You say that… yet you're the one who can't keep your hands off me."

Roy smiled, "I'll call in a sick day," he grabbed the phone and dialed the office number.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Ed's last day at home had consisted mostly, of cleaning, packing, and the doting father of his child fussing over him. That night… well, you can guess what their last night consisted of. Roy was eager to make up for the time they would be missing together.

The alarm clock started to ring, Edward sat up groggily, he felt like he had just fallen asleep, only to be woken up again… Roy groaned sounding irritated. He sat up and yawned before he fell back into the bed.

Edward shook him, "C'mon Roy… we gotta go, the train leaves at 4."

Roy sounded annoyed, "Tell me why did we book you for the early train?"

Ed sighed, "Not many people are there at this hour… I won't draw as much attention… We won't get caught and have you shipped off to some slave camp, and me taken into military custody to be experimented on… The list goes on Roy… now get up." Ed stood up and put on the baggy ugly green and blue sweater that hid his belly so well. He wrestled with the button of his pants... Not even close to closing, He groaned and started mumbling, "c'mon, c'mon… you fit yesterday!" He gave up and sat on the edge of the bed. Tears pricked at his eyes. He couldn't help it everything made him emotional.

Roy finally sat up a few minutes later only to find his lover crying, He wrapped his arms around Ed's shoulders, "What's wrong?"

Ed looked at him, "I'm fat… I look like a whale!"

Roy smirked, "You think you're big now give it a couple of months…" Ed shot him a glare, the colonel held his hands up defensively, "Hey... c'mon… you're not fat, you're pregnant…"

Ed sniffled, after hearing that he started crying more, "Y-You're g…g-going to f-find someone, skin-nny and h…h-ot" He was choking up, hardly able to talk from crying so hard, "When I c-c-come back, you'll ha-ave a new boy-f-friend…"

The further along Ed got the more confidence he lost. Roy chuckled, "you really think that little of me?" Roy shook his head in dismay, "Edward… you're always complaining that I never give you any space, or that I'm always touching you… you really think I'd cheat on you…" He wiped away a few of Ed's tears, "c'mon Ed… I'm obsessed with you, as if that would ever happen…"

Ed smiled softly and nodded. Roy pressed their foreheads together before he got up and threw on a shirt and sweatpants. He watched as Ed wiped at his face before standing up and grabbing a larger pair of pants. He slipped them on quickly and grabbed the handle of his luggage. They had made sure to pack light enough, so Ed could carry the suitcase without strain.

Roy stood at the front door his hand about to turn the door knob, he let go with an exasperated sigh. He turned to Ed, "We won't be able to say our goodbyes at the station…" With that said he leaned over and pecked Ed on the lips a couple of times before making the kiss much deeper. He pulled away slowly and stared at Ed's dazed face. Roy fell to his knees… and put his hands on either side of Ed's belly. He placed light kisses around his navel. Ed's eyes fluttered closed for a split second enjoying the ticklish sensation that crawled up his spine. Roy sat silent on the floor with his forehead placed against Ed's belly as if telepathically communicating with the baby.

Ed's voice was soft when he spoke, "C'mon… we're gonna be late." Roy took a few seconds before getting to his feet…

Roy thought that Ed had changed with the pregnancy, well so had Roy. He was always concerned, and anxious… for obvious reasons. He started out as a sarcastic asshole, and had now become a doting boyfriend… who was still happened to be a sarcastic asshole, but hey, win some, lose some…

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Roy stood on the platform and Ed was on his knees at the window. He squished his face up against the glass and stuck his tongue out at Roy.

The colonel stood chuckling, not because of the face, but because Ed's swollen belly was also being pushed gently against the window, "Hey… don't forget to come get me when I get back… I mean, you being so old and all... things easily slip your mind…" Edward had a big grin spreading ear to ear.

Roy chuckled shaking his head, "Of course not…"

The whistle blew loudly a few times. The station was deserted, Roy leaned in towards the window very quickly and pecked him on the lips. Just a peck that happened in the blink of an eye.

The train began to move forward, Ed's face was pale and his eyes were wide with shock, He sat down on his seat, He huskily said the word, "that Idiot…"

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Ed was worried during the entire train ride, you never know who's watching. He couldn't get those words out of his head and when he finally arrived in Resembool he felt sick to his stomach.

As he stepped off the train he heard Al's voice, "Brother!" he was now wrapped in a hug.

The older brother smiled and hugged back, "hey Al!"

Winry stood smiling holding Trisha on her hip, "hey Ed!" She hugged him tightly with one arm, "It's good to see you, you look healthy!"

Ed rolled his eyes smiling, "I mean I feel a lot better… but my back is killing me…"

Winry glowered knowingly, "I could never sleep."

Ed threw his hands up exasperated, "I know!" They both erupted into laughter, "But… I would like to get home, the sooner the better." With that said the Elric family quickly headed home

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Winry and Al worked in the kitchen, Ed was left to play with Trisha. He remembered he should probably call Roy to tell him he had arrived, and to check and see if Roy himself was fine. Conveniently enough a phone sat on the coffee table. He reached for it and checked the time to see which number he should call… it was 9:30, he might've just gotten to work. He dialed the office number, it rang a few times before he heard, "Roy Mustang."

Ed felt relieved, "hey, I'm with my family now… I just wanted to let you know… there's no sense in having you worry all day…"

Roy said on the other end, "Oh good… that's good to hear…" He paused for a minute, when he spoke again his voice was very quiet and soft, "I'm sorry about the train station… that was reckless… I don't know what came over me…"

Edward clicked his tongue in irritation, "Yeah, what the hell was that you scared me half to death!"

"Oh, okay I see now, so you called to check up on me…?"

Ed's face turned red and he could hear Roy laughing on the other end, Ed scoffed, embarrassed. "I'm hanging up now!" And that's what Ed did.

He slid onto the floor and began to play with Trisha again.

Al peeked his head into the living room from the kitchen, "Are you alright brother?"

Ed looked up to meet his gaze, "Hmm…? Yeah, we're fine…" He smiled and shook a rattle which caught Trisha's attention. She grabbed it out of her uncle's hand, and shook it smiling and laughing.

Winry walked into the living room checking on him and Trisha, "dinner will be ready in a few minutes Ed… and we're expecting Oliver… so, if you could listen for the door that would be great…"

"Oh, yeah… no problem…"

Winry smiled at Trisha, "Trish, are you being nice to Uncle Ed?"

Trisha stared back blankly before she cracked a smile at her mother.

"Thanks for watching her Ed…"

"Well, it's good practice… I'm gonna have to get used to it sometime…"

Winry nodded in agreement before she gave a little wave to Trisha and then returned to the kitchen to help Alphonse.

Just as Al and Winry had finished setting the table there was a knock at the door.

Ed answered it holding Trisha in his arms, "You have impeccable timing doctor…"

Oliver grinned, "So I've been told!" he looked at Trisha and grabbed her small hand shaking it up and down, "What a pleasure to see you again, Miss Trisha…" She giggled, in response, "Wow… six months… she's so big…" He said stepping into the house.

Ed smiled, "It's crazy how fast they grow…" He closed the front door.

"And to think yours will be here soon enough Ed!" Winry called from the table. She smiled, "It's good to see you're still alive Oliver… You were locked away studying for a month… but I was sure you had died…"

"Aww." He whined, "Thanks for the vote of confidence…" He slumped his shoulders dramatically. "Thanks for having me over for dinner… I needed to get out of the house…" He took his seat at the table across from Winry.

Ed moved to put Trisha in her highchair so her dad could feed her dinner. She squirmed excitedly making gurgling noises. "What were you working on?" Al asked while simultaneously opening a jar of green mush.

Oliver pushed around some food on his plate with his fork, "Oh… nothing really…"

"Oh c'mon, lock yourself in your house for a month, and you weren't doing anything?" Winry prodded him, but she kept the mood light and funny… she was really good at doing that, and she knew people wouldn't get mad at her that way too.

"Well, I was working with alchemic combustion… testing the various sizes of the explosions, depending on the elements used… Of course I wasn't home, there's a field a few days walk away from here… so that's also where I was…"

"Why combustion?" Al asked

"So inquisitive…" Oliver teased. "That's a good trait Al, stay curious…" He brushed off the question.

They ate the rest of dinner with light conversation. Mostly, they talked about Ed's baby, and his pregnancy and Roy. Al liked to poke fun at Roy, and Ed told how unlike himself he was… always so touchy feely.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

After dinner Ed, Oliver, and Al sat around the living room chatting. Winry took her turn putting Trisha to sleep. Their very deep conversation about how uncomfortable the train seats were was interrupted by a ringing phone.

Al answered, "Hello? Hughes!? What are you talking about? Calm down…. Who do they have?"

Ed's heart stopped. He yanked the phone from Al's hands, "Hughes it's Edward…"

His voice was frantic, "Ed, they have him… they took him… the military took Roy into custody!"

The phone slipped from his fingers. Ed felt like he was going to be sick. Tears pricked his eyes, "THAT IDIOT!" He was shaking with terror.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Oh shit! What's gon' happen?! I'm sure some of you already have guesses.

What's gonna happen to Roy?!

Why was Oliver researching combustibles?

How is Alphonse gonna react to all the news and info about the slave camp?

What are we going to do?! AHHHH!
