Jack woke up the next morning with Saeko in his arms as her head laid on his chest. He chuckles softly before brushing some of her hair off her face, causing her to stir at his touch.
Blinking her eyes open, she sees where she's currently lying down and looks up at Jack as a beautiful smile flashes across her face. "Hmm, good morning." She says quietly as she wraps an arm around his waist, causing him to chuckle before leaning to kiss her head.
"Good morning. You sleep well?" He asks her as she sits up and stretches before looking down at him then leans down to softly kiss his lips while he kisses her back. Pulling away from the kiss, Saeko looks at him slyly. "What kind of question is that? Since you got better, I've had the best nights of sleep since this all started." She tells him honestly as Jack holds her close.
Nodding, he gently rubs her back with a soft chuckle. "I'm happy to hear that, babe." He tells her as she inhales deeply before sighing.
Kissing his cheek, Saeko sits back up while looking down at him. "Alright. We have to get up. We still have some supplies to get before heading out. You can never be too prepared." She tells him as she hops out of bed and puts some clothes on.
Jack hops out of the bed as well then puts some clothes on too when he suddenly running footsteps outside his bedroom door. Hearing it all, Jack and Saeko look at each other with confusion when they then hear someone knocks on the door.
Walking over to the door and opening it, Jack sees Vincent standing in the doorway with a stern expression as multiple guards are running in the hallway. "Vincent? What the hell's going on?" Jack asks him with concern.
"We've got company at the front gate, Jack. It's Shido." He tells him with a hard expression as both Jack and Saeko look at him in shock.
15 minutes later, Takagi Mansion Courtyard...
As it's raining heavily during the early morning of the day, the Takagi security guards all surround Shido and his group of brainwashed students as the students, male and female, all look hungrily and lustfully at the men and women of the Takagi security, making those same men and women feel uneasy at the looks they're getting from these young people.
"Friends, friends, friends! There is no need for such hostility. We require only a place to stay and food to eat, that is all. There is no need for you to be so uncomfortable of our presence. We're friends here. Allies. We need only to help each other if we're to survive." Shido tries to work his magic with the guards of the Takagi Estate and gain some favor with some of them, but the guards aren't listening to a word he's saying.
They know of this mans reputation as well as the reputation of his father, so, that already has him in a bad light with many of the people there.
"We need only to help each other if we're to survive? That's what you said, right, Shido?" A voice says, catching Shidos attention as he turns his head to the source when he sees Vincent leaning against the doorframe of the Takagi mansion with a dark frown on his face as Jack and Saeko walk up to stand beside him with their own frowns on their faces.
Shido frowns deeply and grits his teeth as he takes a step forward but stops when the guards point their guns at him threateningly. "Vincent fucking Thorne. What are you doing here? Don't you have some super models to fuck?" Shido asks frustratingly as Vincent just smirks and steps forward with Jack and Saeko behind him.
"No, actually. I'm here to do a job. Which is to actually help as many people here as I possibly can. That's more than I can say for you though. Your father too. Trash like you only ever care about "helping" people when it suits your own benefit. Never for the benefit of others." He says seriously as he walks past the guards and in front of Shido.
"Plus the fact that you tried to worm your way into both my mothers and aunts pants already puts you in a bad light with me. But, they were smart enough to see through your bullshit, so, I'm not exactly worried about you being here for long." He continues with a smirk as Shido grits his teeth more before looking over at one of the Takagi security guards.
"Would one of you care to explain why this... piece of filth is here on such honorable grounds? This peasant doesn't deserve to be here." He says to the guards, angering many of them, one of them begins to answer, but stops when a deep authoritative voice answers instead. "Thorne-san is here as an honored guest, Shido. Plus he has been helping out here at the mansion since his arrival. He has more of a right to be here compared to you or your father."
Souichiro Takagi says as he steps out of the mansion with his wife beside him and more of the former Fujimi High School students behind Yuriko. Rei walks up closely beside Yuriko with a fierce glare on her face, but Yuriko stops her as Souichiro walks up beside Vincent with a death glare directed towards Shido. "So, that brings me to ask you this, why are YOU here on such honorable grounds? You and your..." Souichiro asks before pausing to look at Shidos group. "Your group of weak willed slaves?" He finishes question as Shido just chuckles nervously.
"Souichiro-san, I assure you, I am only here with my students for shelter and food. We want no trouble here." He says to him, but Rei stomps forward as Yuriko tries to stop her, but fails. Rei yanks one of the guards rifles out of his hands and points the bayonet dangerously close to his throat, causing him to gulp audibly.
"M-Miyamoto-chan, what do you think you're doing?" Shido asks with a trembling tone as Rei glares at him before answering. "Do NOT call me that like you know me, you bastard. I'm about to do what should've been done the day you were born." She threatens dangerously as Shido holds his hands up trembling while trying to calm the girl down. "Come now, Miyamoto-san, that weapon is not a toy for you to play with. I'd recommend you give it back to the nice security guard before you hurt yourself." He tells her shakily as his "students" all glare at Rei furiously.
Rei scoffs. "I don't think you know what you're talking about Shido, but I can assure you, it won't be me that gets hurt. It's you." She continues to threaten him as she presses the rifles bayonet further against his throat, this time drawing a small trickle of blood.
Souichiro was just about to encourage her to take it further and kill the man, but a look from Vincent and Jack, who had walked up beside the man when Rei stomped towards Shido, stopped him from saying anything and just kept his mouth closed.
Vincent, after giving a disapproving expression towards Souichiro, walks up beside Rei and calmly places a hand on her arm, causing her to look at him in disbelief. "What are you doing, Vincent-san? You would spare a piece of garbage like him?" She asks him with shock, making him shake his head.
"Normally? No. But what I wouldn't do is stain my conscious with his blood. Especially if I do it in cold blood. Believe me, Rei, we all know that no one would really miss him." He tells her before looking at Shido, who glares at Vincent fiercely, before looking back at Rei. "But if you kill him now, in cold blood because you want to, you'll be no better than he is. I've been down that road before. And it almost cost me everything." He tells her honestly, making her pause when she remembers the conversation she had with him yesterday.
Inhaling then sighing deeply, she looks at Shido and slowly lowers the rifle before handing back to the guard, who only points it back at Shido since the other guards were still standing guard and watching Shido closely.
Shido smirks as Rei walks away before deciding to taunt her. "Wise choice, Miyamoto. Besides, we all know that you wouldn't have-"
WHAM!
Shido is knocked down to the wet ground by Vincent, who slugged him when Shido decided to get cocky. Looking down at Shido, Vincents eyes briefly flashed red while the man held his face in pain as he looked up at Vincent in shock. "It would be a wise choice for you to keep your filthy mouth shut, Shido. Because you're awfully close to losing that forked tongue of yours. This is your only warning. Try anything while you're here and I'll do all of Japan a favor by killing you." Vincent threatens him as Shido looks up at him fearfully.
Shidos group all surround him to aid him while many of them all look up at Vincent with feral glares, but they don't do anything since they're outnumbered and unarmed.
Vincent turns to walk away as Rei gratefully nods to him, making him nod back while Jack and Saeko both stand beside her to comfort her.
Souichiro looks at the head of the guards sternly. "Take this piece of filth and his group and throw them all in the holding cells. We'll decide what to do with them later. Make sure that they are NOT let out of your sight and do not listen to a word the bastard says." He orders him before looking over at Shido, who was now nursing him swelling jaw. "Because his words are nothing more than empty promises and poison." He finishes as the guard nods and salutes him. "Yes, Lord Takagi." The guard simply says before ordering the rest of the guards to take Shido and his group to the holding cells in the mansions basement.
Souichiro walks away with his wife from the small group to head back inside the mansion, causing Jack to look at Saeko. "Hey, listen, I'll talk to you later. There's something I need to talk to Souichiro about." He tells her, making her nod with a smile before Jack takes off towards Souichiro.
"Souichiro-san! Wait!" He calls out to the man, making him and his wife turn around to look at Jack as he runs up to them. "What is it, Jack-kun? Is everything alright?" Yuriko asks him with concern, making Jack smile and nod his head. "Yeah, Yuriko, I'm sorry. Everything is fine." He tells her honestly before looking at Souichiro.
"I would like to speak with you for a moment, if that's alright? I know you already have your hands full. For obvious reasons. But I wouldn't be bothering you if it wasn't important." He says to the man as Yuriko looks at her husband with concern, but Souichiro shows a tiny glimpse of a smile before walking up to Jack and patting his shoulder firmly.
"You should know this by now, Jack-san. You're family. Whatever it is you need, I'll listen to the best of my ability. But I have some time to spare before I make my decision with... that snake Koichi Shido." He tells Jack as he glares out the front doors of the mansion, causing Jack to nod with understanding.
"I understand, Souichiro-san. I do. But trust me, this won't take long." He tells him honestly, making Souichiro glance at him for a moment before fully looking at him again. "Would this happen to be about you and your group leaving soon?" He asks Jack curiously, causing Jack to simply nod as his answer.
Souichiro nods then leans down to his wife and whispers something to her, causing her to nod before wrapping Jack in a tight, but gentle, hug before walking up the stairs leading to the second floor of the mansion. Souichiro then gestures to his left for Jack to follow him to the armory.
Saeko, meanwhile, stands with Rei, who is trying to not have a nervous breakdown from having almost killed Koichi Shido in a murderous rage that Vincent managed to stop before she could.
Looking up just in time to see Vincent walking away towards the library, she looks at Saeko with a pleading expression, which causes Saeko to sigh deeply then nod with a smile before letting Rei go to chase after Vincent. "Don't get your hopes up too high, Rei. I can already tell from my limited interactions with him that Vincent has a deep great darkness inside him. One that even I wouldn't want. Be careful that you don't get caught up in it. Because I don't think Vincent would want to drag anyone down with him into that void." Saeko thinks to herself as she watches her friend chase after the still mysterious Vincent.
"Vincent-san! Wait! Vincent-san!" Rei shouts out at Vincent, who turns around to see Rei running up behind him, then stops when she catches up to him. "Rei? What's wrong, are you alright?" He asks her with concern, making her nod her head before standing up straight with a serious expression on her face.
"I... I just... I wanted to ask you why you stopped me from... well... stopped me from killing Shido? I mean, I would've figured that... you would've done the same thing? I mean, I'm not saying that you're a murderer, but..." She says to him trying to find the right words, but can't seem to, which causes him to stop her so he can explain.
"I get it, Rei. You wanted to kill a man that has more than likely gotten away with murder just like his father. And we all know that no one with a developed brain would miss him, but killing him in cold blood just like he would will not make you better than him. It will only make you worse." He begins to explain while she listens. "I know better than anyone that if trash like him were to be put down before he had the chance to hurt someone else again, I would take that chance in a heartbeat, but only if it meant that I was protecting people and not doing it because I felt like it or absolutely wanted to. But... I didn't always do that. At least, that's not how I started before I joined Athena." He continues, but his statement causes Rei to look at him with confusion.
"What do you mean, Vincent-san?" She asks him as he just sighs. "I used to kill people in cold blood, Rei. But only people that were deserving. People that kidnapped me, tortured me and tried to make me into a... super soldier under their control. Well, that didn't work out for them because I managed to escape and I gave them back what they gave me ten fold. But, down the line I took it a step too far and people got caught up in the crossfire. Which is what I didn't want, but it happened anyway." He explains, causing her eyes to widen in shock, but she kept listening to every word.
"Eventually it got to the point where they attacked an entire city by starting a viral outbreak in the hopes that my name would be among those of the deceased. An entire city, just to get to me. That didn't work either, but the names of my friends and..." He continues before stopping as he chokes up, making Rei quickly figure out what he was trying to say.
"Your... your friend. She was among those that died, wasn't she? The one you loved?" She asks him in concern. Vincent doesn't answer, but nods his head with his eyes closed as a stray tear rolls down his cheek.
He turns his head and wipes it away as Rei just stands there watching him and giving him a moment. After taking a deep breath and clearing his throat, Vincent continues. "After that, I had to do things differently. I decided that if I was going to keep killing, then I couldn't do blindly anymore and I would only do so for the right reasons. Not because I wanted to. Not because I wanted vengeance. And not because I wanted payback. But because I wanted to make sure that what happened to me when I had been kidnapped would not happen to anyone else again. If I HAD to do it, it would have to be to protect those from harm." He continues firmly as Rei continues to listen.
"Granted, that process has been... slower than it was before, but it's produced better results. It still doesn't take away the pain or the guilt of knowing that what happened was because I was pushing back too hard and the end result got... got her killed. But the only thing that's been keeping me going is..." Vincent continues on before Rei finishes his sentence.
"Her wanting you to do what's right. Not in her name, but it's what she would want you to do. To keep fighting and to keep moving forward. Right? She's the only thing that's keeping your flame burning." She finishes for Vincent, making him nod.
Rei steadily walks up to him then wraps her arms around his neck as she looks at him and he at her. Pausing for a moment, Rei makes another decision. "Vincent... show me. Show me what your eyes really look like. Show me your true eyes." She says to him. Vincent hesitates for a moment before his eyes slowly turn from steel gray to bright red.
Staring into his eyes for a moment, Rei slowly leans in close to Vincents face and kisses him softly. Vincent once again hesitates and almost pulls away, but he relaxes into the kiss then slowly wraps his arms around Reis waist to pull her in closer. Rei pulls his head closer to hers while they both kiss each other. They both stand in the library kissing each other passionately as a few minutes pass.
"Rei?" They both here a male voice in the library doorway. They pull away from the kiss to look at who called her name.
It was Takashi with a bewildered and shocked look on his face.
"What... Rei, what the hell?!" He shouts with an angered expression, causing Rei to sigh deeply before looking up at Vincent. "Um, I hate to ask, but... could you maybe...?" She wonders out loud, making him nod his head. "Yeah, um... we'll talk later. But holler if you need me." He whispers to her, making her smile and nod her head gratefully. "Thank you, but I'll be fine." She whispers back, making him nod as his eyes shift back from red to gray as he walks past Takashi and out of the library.
Takashi watches Vincent walk past him before looking back at Rei. "Rei, what the hell was that about?! You're with him now?! First my best friend, Hisashi, now that guy?! You don't even know him!" He shouts as he walks up to her, but not in a threatening manner, he was just genuinely confused and angry about the situation.
Rei, nods her head, understanding Takashis confusion. "I know, I know. But... in the time I've gotten to know him here in the mansion, I've learned more about him from our time here than I have with you since we got to our first year Fujimi." She explains as Takashi looks at her with disbelieving look on his face.
"You learned MORE about him in just the few days you've known him compared to the years you and I have known each other? Where's the logic in that? What have you learned about him compared to what you know about me? Go ahead and tell me. I would just LOVE to hear this." He asks her with a sarcastic tone as he crosses his arms and waits for her to answer.
"I've learned that even through that hardened exterior is a young man that has been through a lot within the past few years compared to us in a few days. He's had friends, he's lost friends. He loved someone, he lost that same someone. He's killed people that were deserving, but people got caught in the crossfire with his war against the people that hurt him and tried to turn him into a monster. A monster that's worse than the ones beyond those walls." She explains, pointing out the window at the walls of the Takagi Estate. Takashi says nothing and continues to listen, not believing anything Rei has just said so far.
"I also learned that even though he puts up a very, VERY convincing front, he's still a human deep inside, Takashi. Despite what Jack has told us about him and the things he can do, he's still human. He can still get hurt. Physically, mentally and emotionally. I could see it on his face when he talks about losing his friends and the one he loved most. He won't mention her name, but I can just tell he's telling the truth." She continues to tell him as Takashi begins to lose his sour expression.
"Whoever she was, she's the only thing that keeps driving him to keep going and to keep doing what's right. She's not even here anymore, Takashi, and he's still doing everything he possibly can to do right by her. Not in her name, but to make sure that what happened to her doesn't happen to anyone else or their loved ones." She tells him, making Takashi sigh deeply.
"That's the type of love I'm craving, Takashi! I want to be so important and loved by someone that they'll keep going just by thinking of me and trying to do right by me and I'm not even there to comfort them when they feel ready to give up!" She shouts, causing Takashi to finally understand as he lowers his head and sighs.
Rei then takes a deep breath before sighing deeply. "And... despite what our feelings are for each other... I don't think I'll ever get that from you." She says to him, shocking him as looks up at her.
"Wha... What do you mean by that, Rei?" He asks her, curiously concerned with wide eyes.
"I mean, Takashi, that... I'm going to do what Vincent would do and go with the others. To do what's right. Even if... Even if it means that I have to leave you here. Leave you behind." She says, shocking him as he walks up to her and calmly grabs her arms.
"Rei, you... you can't. You'll... You'll get hurt." He simply says to her, causing her to shake her head. "Then I get hurt. Given what's happening out there? It's bound to happen, Takashi." She tells him with tears welling up in her eyes as tears begin to build up in his.
"Rei, please... stay here... with me. Where it's safe. I don't want to lose you." He begs her tearfully, but she shakes her head before place her hand gently on his cheek. "Takashi... you've already lost me." She tells him sadly, making her words hit him like a ton of bricks.
"What... What do you mean?" He asks her shakily. She closes her eyes with trembling lips before she answers. "Takashi, you've been so closed off from me for so long that... I can't wait for you anymore to come to me and talk. It's been me that's been coming to you to try and help, but you've done nothing but keep pushing me away when all I've wanted was to be by your side and help you." She explains to him as Takashis tears now flow freely down his cheeks.
Wiping away some of his tears, Rei gently rubs his cheeks and looks at him tenderly. "I'm sorry, Takashi. I really am. But... you've always wanted me to be the only one to come running. And when I refused to do that, you closed yourself off from me. I wanted both of us to come running to each other when we needed each other. But that's not what you wanted." She tells him as Takashi tries to speak, but she stops him by pressing her fingers against his lips.
"I love you, Takashi, and I will always love you. But I can't just go running to you for help when you won't do the same thing when you need me. You'd rather brood and keep to yourself instead of asking for help. I want someone that will come to me when they need me and I can go to them when I need them." She tells him honestly, which makes him lower his head.
"And... I'm assuming you found that someone... in Vincent-san?" He asks her tearfully, making her nod her head slowly. "I think that will take some time, but yes, I believe I found that in him. We barely know each other and he's poured his heart out to me more than any guy ever has. And it's because of that that I know just the type of person he is from just a few interactions with him." She explains as Takashi looks up at her.
She smiles. "Through his trials and experiences, he's strong, but still as vulnerable and human as the rest of us. That's why... that's why I'm... falling in love with him." She tells him honestly as Takashi looks at her with a painful expression before lowering his head as he lets go of her arms.
Pausing for a moment, Takashi sighs deeply. "And what if he doesn't return that love to you, Rei?" He asks her before looking back up at her with an emotionless expression. "What will you do then if he doesn't love you back?" He asks her seriously, causing her to shrug.
"If he doesn't, then he doesn't. It's his choice. And if he doesn't, then I'll just keep moving on. I do know this though. Regardless of what he feels for me, whenever he needs me, I will help him because he would do the same for me as he did for Jack-kun. Why? Because it's the right thing to do. To put our personal feelings aside to help others. And he wouldn't even need to ask me just like I wouldn't even need to ask him. Because it's what's right." She tells him seriously, making him think about her words before nodding.
Taking a moment to collect himself, he makes a gesture with his arms for a hug as she smiles and nods before they both hug each other tightly. "For what this is worth to you, Takashi, I really am sorry it turned out this way." She tells him honestly, making him sigh deeply while nodding his head. "So am I, Rei. So am I." He tells her as they both pull away from each other. She leans up and kisses his cheek before walking out of the library as Takashi walks up to one of the large tables and sits down on one of the wooden chairs while covering his face with one of his hands, sighing deeply as tears roll down his cheeks.
Meanwhile, with Jack and Souichiro...
Jack walks with Souichiro inside the armory before both of them face each other. "Alright, Jack-san. What is it you wanted to talk to me about?" The man asks him as Jack points over to two duffel bags that held his groups supplies.
Souichiro looks at the bags then back at Jack with a curious expression. "Only two bags?" He asks him, wondering if two will be enough, causing Jack to nod. "We have enough food and the necessary ammo to last us a month, as long we don't go looking for fights with an entire horde of undead. Other than that, we're good for a month. Hopefully we won't need it for that long." He explains as Souichiro nods his head understandably.
"So, then, why ask me to come here if you have everything you need?" The man asks Jack again with curiosity. Jack sighs. "We have what we need to use, but what we don't have yet is a method of transportation. And I was hoping if there was anything that you have my group and I could use. At least until we get to the train station." He explains as Souichiro begins to understand more clearly.
"You want to head further into the city." He states, causing Jack to nod slowly. "If we want to help any survivors that are still out there, we have to do something. And if we can also find out how this whole thing started and put a stop to it somehow, then that's a plus." He explains as Souichiro just listens and nods.
"But why head deeper into the city? Don't you think we should start here with the survivors here in this part?" Souichiro then asks, making Jack nod in agreement at his reasoning. "Yes, we should. That's why you're here for that. If there are still survivors here in this part of the city, then they'll just make their way here. But the people that are further in? Someone has to help them get to a safe haven or point them in the right direction of somewhere safe. Either here or a safety checkpoint that are scattered around Japan. But the longer we let this run its course, the more likely chance that there will be nothing left to save by the time the U.S. government decides to get off their asses and help." Jack explains to Souichiro, causing the man to grunt with a nod as he looks back over at the duffel bags.
"How soon are you planning to head out? Assuming, of course, you and your group have everything you need?" He asks Jack curiously, making Jack nod with a smile. "We have all the supplies and equipment we need. All we need now is a vehicle to at least get us to the train station. After that, a team can come retrieve that vehicle then we'll hoof it once the train stops at our destination." He explains as Souichiro thinks for a moment then nods.
"Give me a few hours. I'll see what we can spare, but I can't promise anything, Jack-san." He tells Jack earnestly, making him nod. "You don't have to, Souichiro-san. Just do what you can." He tells him gratefully. Souichiro nods and pats Jack on the back as they both walk out of the armory.
With Jack, Miss Shizuka and Alice, later that day...
As Jack had waited for most of the day for Souichiro to find his group a temporary vehicle for transportation for them to use, he had decided to catch up with Miss Shizuka and Alice while he waited.
"Oniichan? How soon are we going to leave?" The ever energetic young girl asks Jack curiously as she sat at a table in the living room of the mansion drawing with crayons. Jack and Miss Shizuka both look at Alice as Jack leans back in his chair and thinks for only a moment before looking back at Alice with a smile. "Soon, Alice-chan. Very soon. Have you got your stuff ready?" He asks her.
Alice beams at Jack with a bright smile and nods enthusiastically. "Uh-huh! I have everything ready, but only the stuff I need." She admits as Jack and Miss Shizuka smile before the former high school nurse looks over at him. "Valentine-kun, do you think we'll be able to put a stop to this? Is there any way we can find out what caused this?" She whispers to him as Alice went back to her coloring and drawing.
Jack sighs and shrugs. "I don't know, Miss Shizuka. I really don't. There's only one way for us to find out. And that's when we head out." He answers her as honestly as he could. She nods as Leon and Ada walk into the living room looking directly at Jack. "Jack, Mr. Takagi asked us to come get you. Something about the thing you need for your departure?" Ada informed him, making Jack nod his head as he stood up and walked out of the living room with Leon and Ada.
"Tell me something, Jack. When you and the others head out, where will you go?" Leon suddenly asks Jack as he, Jack and Ada walk down a long, narrow hallway leading to the Takagi Mansions large garage. Jack just shrugs. "Honestly, Leon? We don't have... an exact destination. We just hope that we can help any survivors and find a way to put a stop to this." He answers Leon as the three of them come upon the double doors leading to the garage.
"And what of this Vincent? Do you trust him to help with the people here and the city?" Leon asks him sternly, making both Jack and Ada look at him. Ada looks over at Jack while he still stares at Leon with a stoic expression. "I do, actually. He saved my life and he's been helping the people here at the mansion. So, between him and your organization, Leon, I trust him over them." He answers him earnestly before opening the double doors and walks into the garage.
Ada looks at Leon with a sly smile before shrugging at him before walking into the garage, leaving Leon in the hallway as he sighs deeply before walking in himself.
"Souichiro? Leon and Ada told me that you have what I asked for?" Jack calls out to Souichiro, who was standing next to a military jeep that looks similar to the jeep that Saeko and the others came in with, but instead of the olive drab color, it was a tactical dark blue color for stealth purposes and looked more lean and not as bulky as the previous jeep.
Jack points at the jeep with a confused expression before looking at Souichiro. "Isn't that the jeep that Saeko and the others used to get here?" He asked curiously, causing Souichiro to shake his head.
"No, Jack-san. Unfortunately, that jeep was severely damaged from previous uses and hadn't been repaired. It was a miracle alone that your friends even got here without shutting down on them." He explains as Jack nods his head understandably before walking up to the jeep and begins to examine it.
"This one doesn't look as bulky, Souichiro." He says to the man, who smiles. "Indeed. It's my own design and I'm sure you've noticed the color. This jeep is purely for stealth purposes and night operations only, but we haven't had those since that night my men and I found you." He tells Jack as he pats the hood of the jeep with a proud smile. "Now, I'm lending it to you for when you head out. It's not as bulky, but it provides plenty of protection from the corpses walking around, it's quick and quiet, very quiet. So, you'll have no trouble from the undead. As long you don't go running them over left and right, of course." He tells Jack with a chuckle.
Jack laughs and nods his head as he reaches the trunk of the jeep. He opens it up to see that there is plenty of room in the back to store their equipment and gear until they reach the train station. He nods and closes the trunk before walking back over to Souichiro with a smile. "Well? What do you think?" The man asks with an egotistical smirk, making Jack snort humorously before he nods. "It's perfect, Souichiro. Arigato." He says, thanking him.
Souichiro shakes his head and gently pats Jacks shoulder. "Think nothing of it, Jack-san. My men will come retrieve it once you and your friends reach the train station. Just remember to activate the tracker to let us know that it's ready for pick up. The tracker is underneath the steering wheel. Don't forget it." He informs Jack, who nods with a smile before Souichiro turns to Leon and Ada with a more serious and business focused expression.
"Now... Mr. Kennedy, Ms. Wong, I would like for you both to come with me. We have business to discuss concerning our... uninvited guests. Ms. Wong, we shall find Mr. Thorne first. Come with me." He says to both of them, causing them to nod before he escorts them out of the garage leaving only Jack by himself as he looks back at the jeep.
He inhales deeply before letting out a long and shaky sigh before nodding. "Ok... ok... I guess we're really gonna do this. Better get the others so we can start loading up." He whispers to himself before walking out of the garage and back into the mansion.
That Evening, Takagi Mansion Courtyard...
Koichi Shido and his "merry" band of degenerates are all currently standing in the courtyard of the mansion with many witnesses, which includes Jack and his group. As well as Vincent, Ada and Leon.
Souichiro Takagi stands in the center of the courtyard in front of Shido with a scowl on his face. "Koichi Shido, we've come to a decision that you will not be welcomed here. Because of your history, as well as your family's history, you will be nothing more than a hindrance for our survival. You've already poisoned the minds of these young people that follow you. As such, they too are not welcomed here." He informs the so called teacher, who scowls angrily before looking at Vincent and points to him.
"What about that one there? Will he also be kicked out? Or will you keep him here over someone that can actually help around here? He's nothing but a cur! A weakling!" Shido shouts at Souichiro, who only continues to scowl at the man. He knew what Shido was trying to do. He was trying to plant seeds of doubt in his mind and make him question and doubt Vincent, but he knew the mans game. And he wasn't going to fall for it. He came to trust Vincent almost as much as he trusts Jack, but not by much. Though Vincent was still an outsider and an enigma, Souichiro would sooner trust his life with him rather than Shido.
Souichiro and Shido suddenly hears stomping footsteps approaching them, causing Souichiro to turn his head to see Rei standing beside him with a spear pointed dangerously close near Shidos throat.
Shido gulps and holds his hands up in a surrendering gesture. "M-Miyamoto-san... what... what do you think you're doing?" Shido questions the young girl as she glares ferociously at him. "If you open your mouth one more time, you pathetic son of a bitch, I'll be doing everyone in the world a favor by getting rid of a plague like you." She threatens him dangerously as Shido begins to tremble, but stops when Rei sighs deeply and pulls her spear away.
"But I won't. I should, but you're not worth the energy or the effort. You'll get what you deserve soon enough, you and your father. That'll be enough for me. Because I don't want my killing you to be on my conscience." She tells him before walking away as Shido releases a shuddering breath.
"And besides..." Rei begins before pausing to glance over her shoulder at Shido. "You're the real cur and weakling here, Shido, not Vincent. He's done more for the people here than you or your father ever have in both your lifetimes." She tells him before looking away from him and walks back towards her group, who were all smiling at her, including Vincent.
Shido scowls angrily and takes a step forward to tell off the teenage girl, but stops when Souichiro points the tip of his scabbard at his chest. "Know your place, Shido. You will not take one more step further towards my home, only away from it. Now... take your poisoned, weak minded group and leave my home! You will receive no help here! Guards!" He shouts as the Takagi guards grab Shido and his group and shove them all back into the bus that drove in as most of them try to protest, but the guards don't listen.
Shido, with a seething scowl on his face, starts up the bus and steadily pulls out of the Takagi Mansion courtyard while Jack and his group all watch as Shidos group leaves the safe haven.
Rei lets out a deep sigh before looking over at Vincent, who smiles at her before nodding his head respectfully, causing her smile brightly.
Miss Shizuka then suddenly remembers something important. "Oh!" She exclaims, causing the others to look at her with concern. "What, Miss Shizuka? What's wrong?" Kohta asks her, making her look over at the young man with a look of realization. "I just remembered that I still have my phone! I can use it to call my friend Rika!" She tells them, but the group looks at her with confusion.
"Um... do we know who that is?" Saya asks her, causing the others, minus Jack and Saeko, to shrug their shoulders. Shizuka huffs before she explains. "Rika Minami! My military friend? The friend that I'm staying with at the apartment that we stayed in last week?" She explains to them, making their eyes widen with realization as they finally understood who she was talking about.
"Ok, you have a way to call her. But will it work?" Jack asks her curiously, making her put a finger to her chin to think for a moment before finally shrugging. "I don't know. Only one way to find out though." She says to Jack as she pulls out her phone and dials Rikas number.
Off to the side, Vincent stands near the door frame of the mansion when something up in the sky catches his attention. "What the hell is that?" He wonders to himself. Ada, seeing his attention was elsewhere, taps him on the shoulder.
He looks at her as she looks at him with a curious expression. "Vincent, what are you looking at?" She asks him as he turns his gaze back up at the sky to watch the shining spot fly overhead. He shakes his head with uncertainty. "I don't know, Ada. That's what's bothering me." He admits as he keeps his eyes on the shining speck.
Shizukas calls gets through as Rika answers her phone. "Hello? Shizuka, is that you?" She asks when she answers the call.
"Oh! Rika, thank goodness! I've been so worried about you!" Shizuka tells Rika, happy that she answered and that she seems to be ok.
"You forgot that you had your phone on you though, didn't you?" Rika asks Shizuka with a humorous chuckle, which causes the young woman to blush before crossing her arms. "I have no idea what you're talking about, Rika-chan." She tells her and turns up her nose.
The group could hear Rika laugh loudly at Shizukas answer. "Oh, don't give me that shit, Shizuka. You know you forgot." She says to her with a laugh, which causes the group to laugh with her as Shizuka blushes even more in embarrassment.
Shaking her head and waving her hand at the group to shush them, Shizuka continues speaking with Rika. "Oh, could you stop, please? I called to check on you. Are you alright?" Shizuka asks her, causing Rika to take the call a little more seriously. "I'm fine, Shizuka. My men and I have had some pretty close calls here and there, but we're fine. I'm fine. Really." Rika tells her earnestly as Shizuka sighs in relief.
"Oh, thank goodness, Rika-chan. Listen, my friends and I are going to figure out a way to stop all this. Just sit tight and we'll think of a way to-"
BZZZT!
"Rika-chan? Hello? Hello?" Shizuka says into her phone, but receives no answer from Rika. She looks at the phones screen and sees that the screen was blank with the words "No Signal" in the center of the screen.
As she and Saya are trying to figure out what's wrong with the phone, Jack looks over at Vincent and Ada, who were shielding their eyes from something, he walks up to them with a concerned expression as they lower their arms and look at each other fearfully and angrily. Lights and generators begin to shut down unknowingly by everyone in the courtyard, but for everyone inside the mansion handling and managing security, they were beginning to panic when their systems refused to come back online.
"Vincent? Ada? What's wrong?" He asks them as they both look at him before looking back at each other with knowing looks. "EMP?" Ada asks Vincent, causing him to nod his head.
"Most likely. It wouldn't surprise me if the politicians in the U.S. are trying to cut off Japan from the rest of the world." He answers earnestly as Jack watches and listens to them before cutting in. "Wait, wait. What are you two talking about?" He asks them, making them both look at him with concerned expressions.
"Lord and Lady Takagi! We have an emergency!" One of the security guards shouts to Souichiro and Yuriko as he runs up to them and stops when he runs out of breath.
"Young man, catch your breath. Tell us what's wrong." Yuriko says to the young man, who nods as he tries to catch his breath. When he does, he stands up straight to look Souichiro in his eyes. "Lord and Lady Takagi, all communications have suddenly been cut off. The men and I have tried multiple times, but nothing has worked. We've lost power, sir." The security guard informs the Lord and Lady of house Takagi, causing both of them to look at the young man with shock.
Jack and his group, as well as Vincent, Ada and Leon, hearing this morning information, look at the security guard as well in shock. But Vincent and Ada don't look as shocked as the others, they look as though they were expecting something like this to happen. Everyone then suddenly hears a loud crash coming from the direction of one of the security fences near the city leading to the Takagi Mansion.
It was Shidos bus, that had somehow tipped over and rammed into the fence, destroying it and allowing the undead to walk on through due to the loud crash. Now, they were heading into the direction of the mansion where many survivors, who had seen and heard the crash, begin to panic when they see the undead beginning to approach the only safe haven in Japan as a fire began to spread across the bus before suddenly exploding.
Shido, somehow surviving the explosion, painfully climbs out of the buses broken door, coughs out blood as he lands roughly on his back and letting out a pained groan. When he looks up, he sees multiple undead standing all around him, but their not moving. Then he hears and soon sees why.
A hulking, fleshy looking monster with black leather pants and boots, walks towards him with a petrifying glare on its face. Trembling, Shido slowly lifts his hands up to show he's not a threat to this beast, but it didn't care. The creature suddenly grabs his whole face and lifts him up with one arm as Shido struggles to get himself free from its grasp as all the undead that had surrounded him returned their focus back to the Takagi Mansion.
Through his broken glasses, that he could only see through one of the lenses, Shidos eyes widened in terror as he could feel the beast that grabbed hold of him start to squeeze its hand tightly. And it was beginning to feel unbearable. In his mind, Shido begins to panic as he frantically attempts to free himself from this beasts grip. "No, no, NO!!! This isn't how my life ends! It can't be! I refuse! This is not my destiny, or my fate! I'm meant for greater things! I'm meant to rule this entire fucking world! This is not how I'm going to-!" He thinks to himself in a fearful panic before he suddenly feels something penetrating through his mouth then out the back of his head.
Shidos eyes roll to the back of his head as his grip on the beast arm loosens and falls limp to his sides as a disgustingly purple colored tentacle slithered back into the beasts hand.
"STARRRS..." The beast snarls before suddenly slamming Shidos head against the bus, causing it to splatter as a large blood stain was now seen on the metal of the bus and on the concrete road. Looking back at the mansion, the beast begins to walk towards it destination.
Witnessing all of this, Souichiro gains a serious glare on his face as he turns to face everyone present in the courtyard. "Guards! Gather up the survivors and take them to the underground bunker beneath the mansion! Many of you who can fight, come with me! The rest of you, head into the security section of the mansion and try to get the power working again! GO NOW!" Souichiro orders all the guards as many of them left to gather up survivors.
Jack and his group runs to help with the survivors, but Vincent stands in front of them, sword in hand, with Ada and Leon beside him. "Vincent, what the hell are you doing?! We have to help with the survivors!" Jack shouts at him assertively, but Vincent shakes his head.
"WE do, Jack, but not you. YOU have to get going. Your departure just came a day early." He says to Jack as Jack and his group all look at Vincent in shock. "Vincent, we can't just-" Rei tries to say to him, but Vincent walks up to her and places his hands gently on her shoulders.
"Rei, you have to. If you guys don't leave now and find a way to stop this, then there's no hope for Japan. If all of you were serious about that, then you need to leave now." He tells her earnestly, causing her to tear up at the thought that she might not see him, Ada or Leon again.
RIIIP!
Everyone turns their heads when they hear something ripping apart to see Yuriko had torn a long rip up the side of her dress with an Uzi Submachine gun in her hands. Kohta blushes up a storm when he sees the womans toned legs, but stops when Saya smacks him upside the head with a glare. "Vincent-san's right, Jack-kun, you have to leave now. We'll hold the fort here. You and the others go out and help any survivors that you can find." She tells them all as most of them began to understand, Rei now included, but Jack still wanted to protest.
"Yuriko, I can't just leave you and Souichiro here and let you do all the work! I may have already lost my mom! What if I-?!" He shouts tearfully before he was suddenly pulled into a tender and loving embrace by Yuriko.
"Jack-kun... you're not going to lose us. You can't get rid of us that easily. We'll be fine. Besides, we have Leon and Ada-san to help us defend this haven. Plus..." She tells him before pausing then looks over at Vincent with a beautiful smile. "We also have Vincent-san here too. And he won't leave us to a fate of torment and death. Will you, Vincent-kun?" She asks him knowingly, as Jack and his group all turn their heads to look at Vincent and wait for his answer.
Vincent smiles and nods his head. "Of course not." He answers her before looking at Jack and the group. "Jack, you've trusted me this much so far. So, keep trusting me and let me show you that you're trust was not misplaced. I give you my word, I'll do my absolute best to protect everyone here." He tells Jack as Yuriko looks at him while gently rubbing his back.
Jack looks at Yuriko, who nods knowingly, then wipes his tears away before nodding. "Alright. Ok." He says simply before looking at his group. "Guys, grab your stuff. We're moving out. You too, Alice." He tells them all, who nods and leave to grab their things, except Saeko and Rei.
Saeko walks up to Jack and stands in front of him looking at his face with concern. "Babe, are you sure this is what you want to do?" She asks him, causing him to immediately shake his head. "Of course not, Saeko. You know I don't want to leave the others here." He tells her earnestly, before looking over at Vincent then back at her.
"But I have to have faith in the people that can handle themselves. I have to believe that they will pull through." He tells her, causing her to nod before they both head inside the mansion to grab their things.
All that remained of the group, was Rei, who wanted to talk with Vincent one more time and make sure of one thing. "Vincent-kun... will you... will you be here... when I come back? I know I can never replace the one you loved... but I'm more than willing to try... if you are..." She says to him sincerely as tears begin to build up in her eyes.
Vincent sighs then smiles after a moment. He then walks up to her and pulls her in for a brief, but passionate, kiss before he looks at her with a smile. "I'm willing to try too, Rei. And don't worry, I'll be here when you get back. Now, go. Your friends need you. We've got things handled here." He tells her confidently, making her smile brightly as she kisses him one more time before heading inside the mansion to grab her things and head out with her group.
Vincent walks to the middle of the courtyard with Leon, Ada, Yuriko and Souichiro all beside him as the security guards cover the walls of the perimeter of the mansion. Vincent then suddenly hears two shotguns being cocked, causing him and the others to turn and look in the direction of the sounds to see Takashi and Miku armed and ready with shotguns and plenty of shells on them.
Takashi and Miku both look at the group and nod their heads, causing the group to nod their heads in return as they watch the army of the dead approach the mansion perimeter gate with the Nemesis in the middle of them.
Seeing the creature for the first time, Souichiro glances at Vincent. "Is this the creature you spoke of that my men and I weren't going to be able to kill in time, Vincent-san?" He asks him curiously, causing Vincent to nod in acknowledgment.
"Unfortunately, yes, Takagi-san." He answers simply as Souichiro glances back at the Nemesis as it catches sight of the group and begins to rush towards the gate, causing the guards to open fire on the beast as well as the undead.
"I'd be an arrogant fool to fight that beast alone." He says earnestly before looking at Vincent pleadingly. "Will you help me, Vincent-san?" He asks him sincerely.
Hearing Jacks groups leave the mansion grounds in their vehicle, Vincent smiles confidently, now knowing that there's still hope. He looks at at Souichiro then nods. "Takagi-san, it would be an honor." He says to the man, who nods gratefully just as the Nemesis bursts through the perimeter gate with a menacing scowl directed at Souichiro and Vincent. It growls as it begins to slowly stomp towards the group of experienced survivors as the guards focus their efforts on the undead.
Vincent and Souichiro quickly unsheathes their blades as Vincent glares at the Nemesis with a smile. "Let's have some fun." He says with confidence as his eyes turn red before he dashes forward towards Nemesis.
Meanwhile, with Elza Walker...
"Elza-san? Elza-san! Come look at this!" A woman calls to Elza Walker, causing her to walk over to the young woman as she is given a pair of binoculars.
Looking through them, Elza sees a huge fire off in the distance somewhere in the city. Lowering the binoculars, Elza gains a look of concern. "What the hell is going on over there?" She wonders with genuine concern.
