Fatigue - Chapter 17

Elizabeth was already dead tired, now there were only five hours to get to the town of Alert. Well, it would be five hours by car, but she would find a way to get there, so she could find her uncle Wynn and her cousin Frankison and save her son. She only had her backpack and a fanny pack with a few of Jack Junior's things and letters, documents and weapons in the fanny pack, after all she had to drop her things along the way as she couldn't carry anything more than the weight of her son.

They were in a part of the forest, leaving every road possible, eating fruit along the way and today in this river, she managed to catch a large fish and roast it on an improvised fire. It was a good thing that Jack had taught her that, hidden in this small clearing between the rocks, Elizabeth asked God to guide her steps. Jack junior enjoyed every moment of the fishing trip. All the time talking about Alien, Nathan and fishing. Elizabeth's heart raced just thinking about them; how much she loved those two, and knowing that she could never tell them or show them. Thinking this, she fell asleep, completely blacking out.

At Willian Thatcher's house, Grace, Julie and Viola were having tea when Willian came in with Charles, shouting that Elizabeth would be back in a few hours. He told Viola to call the orphanage and let them know that they would be there soon, that the child was not a member of the family but should be well looked after and that they should only contact him or Charles. The child is motherless and fatherless, and the new documents have already been drawn up.

- Charles, the car will be ready in twenty minutes. Shall we go?

And so they went after Elizabeth.

Nathan and the others searched the city and split up; some were going to drive slowly, keeping an eye on the henchmen who were there and heading towards the city of Alert. On horseback Wynn, Nathan, Gab, Edward, Frankison, Charlote, Tom and Carson went together, because in case she was hurt he would know what to do. On horseback they went together as quickly as possible, following the map she had drawn, they had three places in sight, the church, a horse and a pharmacy, but they still weren't sure what it was, but they went on...

Elizabeth woke up to the sound of horses, when she looked in the river drinking water, several wild horses, she grabbed Jack and said:

- Hide here and don't come out until I give you the command... Sergeant wants to run.

Slowly she walked up to the horses, some ran, but one who looked like the leader of the pack stayed and didn't seem very happy. She calmly spoke to him in a gentle way, the horse seemed hypnotized by her voice, she spoke of her struggle, of her son who needed help, she reached out and stroked the horse's head. She came closer, let him lean on her shoulder. Then she climbed on him and walked a little and spoke to him take me ...me take me and my son for a ride? The horse neighed and clapped his feet on the ground, seeming to answer her question. She dismounted, went to the entrance of the clearing, put out the embers, picked up her rucksack and said:

- Sergeant has arrived ...

And so a tiny Jack ran into her arms, she needed to get as close to Alert as possible and the horse was going to help;

Jack, that beautiful horse is going to try to help us, you have to come very quietly so he doesn't scare you. So she took the child on her lap, and step by step they went over to him, when Jack held out his hand, the horse immediately licked it. Elizabeth climbed onto a nearby log, after fitting her son in front of her and tying him up with his quilt, keeping him as tightly as possible to her own body, and climbed onto the horse. She took hold of his mane and they set off for Alert.

Nathan had already noticed that Charles and Willian were waiting for Elizabeth. Gab stood to one side while Nathan surveyed the area. It took more than thirty men to catch a single woman and a child. They were all on foot at the moment when a figure with a top hat and a horse came down the street. Nathan turned pale when he realized it was Elizabeth with Jack tied to her body. Something was strange, she had passed almost everyone in the square, but the bandits hadn't realized it was her. Apparently most of them didn't think the little princess knew how to ride a horse like that. At the last moment Charles shouted and a man on the edge tried to stop the horse. Gunshots ... gunshots... gunshots..., all the policemen were shooting at the henchmen, Charlote and Tom stood up when they saw Elizabeth controlling the wild horse with just her legs, her right hand on her son and her left hand shooting straight at one of Charles' men, and then running away at a gallop. She couldn't even see that they, her friends and family were there. Charles and Willian took advantage of the large crowd and fled in the car followed by some henchmen.

- Where did that woman get that horse? I'm breathless now... I thought she was going to fall off with the little boy. shouted Gab.

- Lizzie! Oh Tom! My son, she managed to tame a wild horse like no one else, I could never do what she did, hold a child and throw with my left hand and still tame a horse with my legs. I've never been so proud of anyone. She's doing everything to protect that beautiful baby. Jack must be very proud of her. Charlote said.
