I ask Kate to give us a minute because I need to explain what this means before we head inside.
Your thumb caresses my bottom lip and the day old scruff on my chin, and you wait for me to collect myself.
"Remember that really bad breakup I told you about?"
You wince but nod your head. "It doesn't take a genius to guess that Rosalie is the girl who broke your heart."
"Yeah. She's crashing the event, and I have two options." I press my forehead into yours, not caring that my mask is going to be covered in iridescent glitter. "I can have her booted and deal with the scene she's going to make when they toss her out, or—"
You square your shoulders. "Or we walk in there"—you point to the double doors—"and ignore the bitch. We have a great time and raise money for a good cause and show her just what she's missing."
"Or that." I chuckle and turn seriously. "But, Bella, Rosalie is going to try to cause drama either way."
You kiss my mouth and pull away. "Can I ask you a personal question?"
I nod.
"Is there any part of you that wants her back? Are you absolutely sure you're over her?"
"Without a doubt. I've moved on to bigger and better things," I stress, squeezing your hips. "And I'm not letting go of what I have right now."
Your smile is blinding. "Okay, I just wanted to make sure." You lick your lips. "What would Kate say if I marked my territory short of peeing on your leg in front of hundreds of people?"
I shrug. "Feel free to stake your claim, but this is a rental, and I'd like to get my deposit back," I joke.
You snort and pull me in for an indecent kiss that my best friend has to break up.
I tell her to let Rosalie stay.
You ask Kate to touch up your lipstick and beckon me with a finger.
"Just staking my claim, handsome." You smirk and kiss the side of my mouth.
Your lips aren't dry yet, and I'm more than okay with the idea that everyone will see your mark on me.
Not that we need or want it, but Kate approves. "Let's go, guys."
