2017, Tokyo
She encountered Rika and Yuta during an investigation of cases of people who fell into comas across Japan. They all shared a similar mark on their forehead, which could not be seen by regular eyes. She did not recognize the symbol, but she knew, for something this weird, it had something to do with Kenjaku's grant scheme. She followed his trace which eventually led her back to Tokyo where a horrible scene was waiting as she arrived at Shinjuku Station.
A huge veil circled the entire Shinjuku district. Inside, thousands of curses rampaged all streets. She hesitated to step inside the veil but, luckily, her arrival time aligned with that of the Jujutsu Tech faculties.
_What is this? - she scouted for more information from Satoru, who arrived with the group - who did this?
He did not answer. She could not gauge his emotion due to the mask. But based on her understanding of his personality and power, all the curses behind the veil should not be the main concern. If he seemed this shocked, it must be something else.
_What do you need? - her tone softened, she would temporarily forget about Kenjaku for now.
_Ah. Can you check for my students? - he spoke calmly without looking at her and joined the other inside the veil. His voice was so distant and cold, giving her a very bad feeling. She did not anticipate the matter that troubled Satoru to be physical, it would be emotional. Regardless, this fight would not end well.
She would like to stay with him, to keep an eye on him, but seeing how many sorcerers around, it was not a good idea to stay. The risk of revealing herself was too high. Plus, after her encounter with Uraume almost 12 years ago, she had not met him yet again. But she could feel it in the back of her neck that Sukuna was returning, and it would be soon. Revealing her identity right now was a terrible choice.
By the time she reached the forest next to Jujutsu Tech High School, there was an ongoing fight between a student and a sorcerer in a monk outfit. She recognized the person, it was Satoru's best friend, Suguru something. The student whose Suguru was fighting was a sick-looking kid and he had a curse standing dangerously close behind him. Both looked pretty messed up already, meaning they had been fighting for some time prior to her arrival.
And there at the moment, she felt a tug in energy with the curse standing behind the student. The last piece of her soul was inside that curse.
_I thought no fighting on the school ground - she asked, stepping out of the shadow.
_Heh, you should not be here - Suguru smiled at her gently, he raised his arm to wave at her - and I think I know you.
_Aren't you Satoru's friend? - she asked, stepping closer to the middle ground between Suguru and the student.
_Don't come near, it's dangerous - the kid yelled, waving his hand franticly for her to stop. She smiled reassuring him.
_Ah…we were friends - he emphasized the word "were." His voice saddened though he was still smiling - we had a fallout and we haven't spoken in many years now.
_What was the fallout about? - she asked again while observing his hand signs.
"Cursed Spirit Manipulation Technique. Child play!" - she did not bulge - "but based on this, what happening in the city must be because of him too. No wonder, Satoru looked shocked. When did this guy turn into a weirdo?"
_Leave, please - the kid entreated, grabbing Kira's arm to pull her behind him and the curse - that man is mad. He will kill you.
_We had different ideologies. Curses are born from human negativity - Suguru ignored Yuta's warning and continued his speech as thousands of shadows appeared behind him, covering the entire sky - if there is no human, there won't be any curses.
_So your ideal solution is genocide? - she asked but did not advance to in front of Yuta. She was closer to the curse this way. Amazingly, the curse did not attack her. Instead, it seemed to make the distance between her and Yuta further, while staying close to him.
"Why do I feel jealousy around here?" - she wondered but quickly scratched the thought off her mind.
_Only sorcerers can remain exist in the new world. We are God anyway.
_You know, you sound just like Kenjaku - she smirked, ready to draw her katana - do you know him? I'm dying to see him again.
_I think I heard of him, but too bad, you won't live to hear it - he flicked his fingers and all curses charged at Kira and Yuta.
Before she could show off her power, an immense curse power annihilated the entire pack of monsters in a single blow, shedding light into the surrounding darkness a moment ago. Kira looked at the source of the power and it was from the scrawny sick-looking kid. More surprisingly, the curse behind him was fighting with him, not against him.
"Curse working with sorcerer, what a rare scene" - she thought in awe, looking back at Suguru standing opposite them, unable to move and in bad shape.
_Yo! - Satoru's voice from the back startled everyone except Suguru - Suguru.
_Satoru.
While Satoru and Suguru were fighting, it was time to obtain the last piece of her soul. She turned to Rika.
_Kid…
_Yuta - he cut her off, gleaming over to the curse beside him - my name is Okkotsu Yuta. Sorry for the mess, you must be scared.
_Um…no worries - she smiled awkwardly. Either he was dumb or he really thought that a normal civilian would walk around with a katana - Yuta, is this curse yours?
_It's my friend, Rika - he paused before speaking, his face saddened.
_What did you do to turn her into this? - she eyed the curse called "Rika," unsure about the feeling she felt right now. Something was different compared to the previous artifacts she collected.
_I could not keep my promise to her - his voice trembled slightly, his fist tightened.
"…it's my promise to you.." - Yuta reminded her of what Satoru once said.
_Well, too bad. Your curse carries something that belongs to me. I need it back. - she said, drawing her katana - I need to exorcise it.
_No - all softness washed from his face. The curse "Rika" screeched and it vibrated the air surrounding them - you will have to go through me.
"Little brat" - her left eye twitched - "do you know who I am, kid?"
_Well, have it your way then - her eyes glowed red as she activated the Repulsive and Attractive technique simultaneously, easily immobilizing Yuta and Rika in space.
_What the… - Yuta fought hard to release himself, and so did Rika. But it was no use, the Soul power was absolute - don't touch her. I warn you!
She ignored him and slowly approached Rika, assessing the Soul's power on it. Once located, she put a hand on the area where her soul energy was most dense.
"If my guess is correct, the girl's soul must remain inside this curse. The Soul power of the Eyes was empowered by the soul of the user. If this curse is this strong, it must have used both the girl's soul and a piece of my soul" - As Kira activated the Extracting Soul technique, her assumption was correct. She pulls the soul of the girl together with the piece of artifact from Rika.
Yuta's eyes widened to see his beloved friend one more time.
Finally, her soul was complete.
The Eyes of Death and Soul Ability 7: Susanoo - the ability to summon Susanno, the protector of Hell.
Lightning struck across the sky. Each strike pierced through the sky, staining it an eerie scarlet blood-red color. Down on the ground, Kira could feel her body heating up and her blood boiling. There were thousands of tiny electrical currents pulsing underneath her skin. They were painful and tickling at the same time. It was like she was being stabbed by thousands of small knives while being tickled by millions of chicken feathers. Her heart was beating out of control. She fell to the ground, her body coiled into a fetal position, one hand holding her heart, struggling to breathe.
She did not recall having to go through this before
While struggling with the force of the last piece of her soul returning, Kira's technique was disrupted and Rika was freed. The curse charged at her with everything it had, completely escaping Yuta's control. She closed her eyes, awaiting for its attacks but nothing happened. But she could not care less, she just wished to be released from the misery she was suffering. She needed to cool down, or else, she would not make it.
"Satoru…I hope he works things out with Suguru."
_Hey…hey….miss…miss - she heard Yuta's voice - Gojo-sensei, she just caught fire. There was nothing I could do.
After settling things with Suguru, he came back to a horrendous scene: she was lying on the ground in a fetal position unmoving as black flame coated her entire body, her teeth clenched so tight that he was afraid they would break, her hands held tight to her chest, and her skin was …was..melting. He kneeled beside her, panicked and baffled about what to do. He activated Infinity Power in an attempt to reach her, but she signaled him not to.
_This…this.. - she struggled - don't touch…you will die. It will pass.
He almost chuckled. She was worried for him when she was the one on fire. Satoru cursed, screaming out loud. He was not ready to see 2 people he held dearly gone in one day.
_Kira, please, you have to stay with me, Kira…Kira…you promise me. I need to keep my promise to you. So..please - those were the last words she heard before succumbing to darkness.
POV
Where am I?
Anyone here?
What is happening?
So dark….
So cold…
What is that light over there? Maybe I should go there.
End POV
_If I were you, I wouldn't go there - a blurry silhouette started forming before her, standing between her and the light that she was going for.
The silhouette became clearer and clearer as it approached Kira slowly. Once it was about 2 steps before her, it stopped and a real person emerged. Her hand went to for her katana, but nothing was at her waist.
_Calm down, I'm not who you think I am - the figure spoke.
_And who are you if you are not Uchiha Izuna? - she took many steps back, putting as much distance as she could between them.
_I am Uchiha Izuna, but you can say I'm the goodness that was left behind when he went rouge against our clan.
_The ring I just collected, it was yours?
_Yes, it was mine, Kira - he patted her head, which she flinched away. Seeing Izuna like this, acting all kind and gentle, was weird when he was the one who put her under - the reason I'm here is to tell you about the blood vows that our clan made 1000 years ago.
She tilted her head, confusion filled her face.
_Bringing you back was not the only blood vows they made that night. The second vow was a technique obtained through a bargain with the Lord of Hell himself and I will tell you how to use it.
_Come on, come back to me - Satoru performed CPR once the black flame around her subsided. Her heart had stopped for 5 minutes already.
He could not give up. He would not let her die like this. He slapped her a few times, hoping some shocks would stun her enough to bring her back.
There were still many things he had not said. There were still many things he wanted to do for her, like going on dates, going to the beach like he did with Riko, and above all, making love to her. Shit, why did he wait all these years when he knew their lives were hanging on a thread? He should have said more and done more for her.
_Wake up! Kira, please, please - Satoru's voice trembled, water covered his vision - open your eyes, please. Open your eyes and curse at me like you always did. Open your beautiful eyes and roll them at me. Please, please….
He was desperate. He refused to accept that there was not much that he could do. She did not have any injuries to be healed. The black flame, fuck, he had no idea where it came from or how it started. From what Yuta said, the flame ignited after she took something, a ring, out of Rika. He assumed it was one of the artifacts but she never mentioned that she would catch on fire after finding one.
He was not sure if he was crying or if it was from the pouring rain. He used his body to cover hers from the rain and mindlessly continued CPR until his prayers were answered.
Although she was still unresponded and burning hot, at least there was a weak pulse after nearly 10 minutes of CPR. He teleported them back to the Jujutsu Tech's infirmary to look for Shoko, but just as he thought, she was not there. She must be busy cleaning up after the Night Parade of Hundred Demons event.
"Fuck" - Satoru did not know how to cool her down, so he did what he thought was best, submerging her in a tub filled with ice water. If you asked where he got it from, he did not recall. Everything was a blur after he witnessed the horrendous scene of Kira on fire and her face was literally melting off. The only thing that he could think of was not letting her die at all costs.
After 15 minutes, she finally opened her eyes.
_Sa..Sa..to..ru? - Kira's voice trembled intensively as she looked around for the cause of her shiver - cold…
_Oh thank you, thank you, Kami-sama - he hugged her tightly, his hands quavering from the fear of losing her forever - I thought you were dead. I thought I lost you forever.
_I…will…will..be…dead..dd…soon..if…if…you…do…ont get.m...m..m..out - her body shivered, teeth clapping together violently.
_Ah…hang on - he took her out of the ice tub and back to his room. He then wrapped her in as many blankets as possible and pointed as many heaters as possible toward her. She thought she would be heated to death this time.
_Stop, stop,….Turn them off. I'm fine, I'm fine now - she rolled her eyes, yelling at him to stop while sweating like crazy.
Once getting rid of all blankets and heaters, he sat down next to her on the bed and buried his face in his hands.
A knock came from outside and he let the person in. It was Yuta.
_How are you, miss? - Yuta stepped inside Satoru's room, looking around secretly before closing the door behind him. She nodded at him - I'm glad sensei's friend is okay. I have never seen anyone on fire with melting skin, die, and come back without a scratch like you.
_Was there anyone besides you two when that happened? - she took the glass of water from Satoru's hand, did not realize how thirsty she was.
_No, just the 3 of us, people were still working on cleaning up the mess Suguru made - Satoru said, putting his jacket around her while speaking. She wanted to protest but was too tired.
Yuta's eyes widened. He had never seen Gojo-sensei act like this toward anyone. Also, when did his sensei become this…this emotional? Did he just touch her face? What the heck was Yuta seeing? Something weird was happening between them. Yuta was sure and he wanted to tell his classmate about this mysterious girl who sensei allowed on his bed.
"Maki-san, Inumaki-san, and Panda-san will be thrilled about this."
_What happened to your face? - Satoru motioned to her face.
_My face? - she touched her face. It was still there. Her eyes, nose, lips, and ears, her face were definitely there.
_It looked different now - he snapped a picture with his phone and gave it to her.
"Ehhhh? Isn't this my old face?" - she touched and stretched her skin. She slapped herself a few times to make sure this was not a dream, which made Satoru laugh dearly at her.
Besides looking older, her features were pretty much the same as in her previous life. She kept looking and looking, stretching and stretching, and in the end, still could not believe it.
And her eyes were glowing red, just like in the previous life. The Eyes had been fully activated, which meant the end was coming near.
_This was my appearance back in the Heian period - she was somewhat embarrassed, would Satoru mind if she looked…outdated? Also, this would be a big issue now since Uraume or Kenjaku would recognize her immediately if their path ever crossed. But regardless, with her complete Soul power, killing them would be easy now. She made a mental note to kill them at sight.
_So this is the Eyes of Death and Souls - he was amused and honored simultaneously. He was able to witness something from legend.
_Sensei, what are the Eyes of Death and Souls? - Yuta asked, drawing her attention to him. She completely forgot his existence. Did she reveal her identity, shoot, she forgot!
_Yuta is trustworthy - he touched her back with reassurance.
If he trusted Yuta, then she would as well. They told Yuta everything about her clan and her past life.
_Also, where is the curse Rika?
