The next day, we got up early enough to have breakfast in the hotel. We got dressed and put our bathing suits under our clothes. I'm start to dread about seeing Jenny during the 4th of July party. I'm still mad at her for what she did- so is Logan.
I was talking to myself in the mirror.
"Jenny, we need to talk. What you did was...," I paused.
That didn't seem right. I fixed my hair and tried again. "I need to chat with you, Jenny. You weren't a true friend for what you did. I think we should... No."
I was struggling to know what to say or do. That's why I need Dad for this part. I don't want to make a wrong decision. I also wonder if telling her at the party would be the right time. I'd blame myself for putting her in a bad mood. That's all I worry about.
"Your father and Mr. Thomas are ready to go down for breakfast," said Kayla.
"Okay," I said.
On the way to breakfast, Dad must have known something was bugging me because I didn't say a word.
"You're quiet this morning," said Dad. "Is everything okay?"
"I have a small problem I would like to ask for an advice," I said.
"Sure." Dad looked at the group. "We'll meet you down there in a minute."
"No problem," said Kristy.
"You don't sound cheerful for the party," said Dad.
"There's a reason I'm like that. I'm not thrilled seeing Jenny at all," I said as we went to get breakfast.
"Is it because of what she did to you?" asked Dad as I nodded. "I almost forgot you mentioned it to me until you brought it up."
"I want to make a decision that is right for me, but I don't know what to do," I said.
"I know what you mean," said Dad.
"What I don't get is that she was supposed to be my friend and she knew what she did bother me," I said.
"Let me ask you a question that can help you decide: Would a good friend be doing that to you?" asked Dad.
"I didn't think of that," I said.
"It's okay. You're not alone. Not everyone realize that," said Dad.
"This would be my first time getting rid of a friend," I said.
"It's never easy to make any tough decisions," said Dad.
"Did it ever happened to you while you were growing up?" I asked.
"No," said Dad.
"You're lucky," I said.
After we had a long talk about this, I said, "I don't think being friends with her is ever going to happen. I don't even trust her, either."
"I don't blame you for that part," said Dad.
"I still haven't forgiving her for what happened. I know Logan was mad at her, too. I'm not sure when would be the best time to bring it up because I don't want to be miserable for one thing and another she could be in a bad mood," I said.
"You got a good point," said Dad.
"I don't mind seeing the rest, so I'm not worried about that," I said.
"That's good," said Dad.
"If Jenny is giving you any issues, you can come to me or go see Ralph," said Dad.
"Okay, I thought about the same thing," I said. "I'm just struggling on what to say. I might just forgive her, but I'll tell her that friendship will not be fixed."
"That would work," said Dad.
We were still talking about it until it was time to head outside. Now, I feel good about this big, tough decision, but I felt it would be the right thing to do. That was when Potsie and Ralph showed up.
"Hello, girls," said Ralph.
"Hi!" exclaimed Kayla.
"We're so surprised to see you guys again," said Dawn. "This is my stepfather, Richard and this is Kristy's father, Patrick."
"Nice to meet you both," said Ralph.
"Same here," said Mr. Thomas.
"Nice to see you girls again," said Potsie referring to Marci and the others.
"Same," said Marci.
"Can't wait to spend the day with you," said Patti.
"We had a blast when we were here last time," said Kathi.
"That's good," said Fonzie.
"We have something planned for all of you back at my house," said Potsie.
"We already put our bathing suits under our clothes," said Kayla.
"Oh, good," said Potsie.
"Who's your friend?" asked Ralph.
"Oh, this is Carlos," I said.
"Hello, nice to meet you," said Potsie.
"Same here," said Carlos.
"My family adopted him not long ago," I said.
Then, we went to Fonzie's. In the backyard, the girls noticed a pool party.
"Wow. This is huge," said Stacey.
"I know," said Kristy.
"The pool party also includes a cook out," said Ralph.
"That's awesome," said Dawn.
"Our final treat tonight that we'll go see the fireworks," said Fonzie.
"Sweet," said Marci.
When I saw Jenny coming, I froze and walked away.
"Is Mary Anne okay?" asked Potsie.
"Is she still angry at Jenny?" asked Ralph.
"Yes," said Stacey.
"Is Jenny insane? She's trying to follow Mary Anne," said Kaylee.
They looked over.
"I bet she won't give up for trying because Mary Anne's not to budge," said Kaylee.
"Jenny doesn't know that Mary Anne plans to end things," said Dad.
"I don't blame her," said Kristy.
"She didn't know how to handle things, which was why she asked to speak to me first before coming," said Dad. "She doesn't know if this would be the best time to mention it."
"True because knowing Jenny, she could create extra problems," said Kayla.
When I didn't answer Jenny while I was walking away from her, she went to the others with an angry face.
"What is Mary Anne's problem?" asked Jenny.
"It's not her, it's you," said Dawn.
"And, what do you want us to do about it?" asked Kristy.
"She kept ignoring me," said Jenny.
"Can you blame her?" asked Marci.
"You were the one who ruined that trip while we were here last time," added Patti.
"And honestly, Jenny, you need to grow up," said Kathi.
"You can't tell me what to do," said Jenny.
"Too bad," said Kathi.
"We care about our best friend," said Kristy.
I was sitting with Al, Joannie, Richie, and Howard. Later, I was having lunch with my friends.
"We noticed you walked away from Jenny," said Kaylee.
"I had to do that. She kept following me," I said.
"Your father told us what you planned to end that friendship," said Marci.
"Yes, I don't want to mention it during the party," I said.
"Smart choice," said Patti.
"I was worried about making more problems while we're here and I didn't want to be miserable," I said.
"You're right to be worried," said Kayla.
"He said if I can go to him or Ralph if Jenny gives me any problems," I said. "I'm debating to do it towards the end before we go see the fireworks."
"That's totally up to you," said Dawn.
"I just want to enjoy it," I said.
"Jenny was mad that you ignored her," said Kayla.
"I'm not surprised," I said.
"She thinks you had a problem, but we told her it was her, not you," said Dawn.
"Good," I said.
"Sorry about that part," said Mallory. "We were just concerned how you would react, which is why I didn't want to say anything to worry you."
"It's okay," I said. "You did nothing wrong. I'm glad I went to the party."
"That's a good thing. That's all it matters," said Jessi.
After we had lunch, we spent the afternoon in the pool. That night, Howard said, "We'll be leaving in an hour to see the fireworks if you guys want to start getting ready."
That was when we grabbed our clothes.
"Do I have time to call Logan before we leave?" I asked my father.
"Yes, we won't be leaving for awhile," said Dad.
"Okay. I was just going to do it after I changed up," I said.
In there, after I changed up, I called Logan. When he answered, I told him about Jenny.
"Oh, brother," said Logan.
"I wasn't thrilled about coming here to face her," I said. "She tried to follow me around, but I'm trying to ignore her while I'm having a good time."
"Good," said Logan.
"I made up with my mind that I'm not going to move forward with Jenny. Another words: I don't want to be friends with her," I said.
"I wouldn't, either," said Logan.
"But I decided to wait until later on tonight," I said.
"Better than making a scene during the pool party," said Logan.
"I know. We're getting ready to go see the fireworks tonight," I said.
"I'm going to be in Kentucky next week," said Logan.
"Oh, good. I hope I can see you," I said.
"Me, too," said Logan.
"I think we'll be in Iowa next," I said. "We'll be there for about a week."
After we finished talking, I knew what I was going to do. I knew this was time to go out there and tell Jenny about my decision to end that friendship.
"But why?" asked Jenny.
"Did you forget you hurt me by taking Logan?" I asked. "What you did hurt me."
"I get I made a mistake," said Jenny.
"But you lost my trust," I said.
"I was trying to apologize, but you ignored me," said Jenny.
"Gee, that's a shame," I said.
"All I asked was to forgive me so we can start over," said Jenny.
"I'll forgive you," I said.
"Oh, good," said Jenny.
"However, reconnecting with you is not going to happen," I said.
"But that's not fair," said Jenny.
"You should've thought about that before," I said.
There, I'm glad I got it out of my system. I am so sick and tired of her being pushy. Then, it was time to go see the fireworks. I figured I'd do it that way so I can enjoy myself.
"I'm glad you're finally doing that," said Marci.
"I know. I wanted to enjoy myself tonight," I said.
"I don't blame you," said Kathi.
"I'll be on the lookout," said Marci.
"Patti and I will do the same," said Patti
"She better not give you a hard time or I will let her have it," said Marci.
She is very protective ever since we've been friends. She does not like Cokie for the way she treats me and Marci would just tell Cokie off- she tries to lie that Marci punches her, but the principal and I didn't believe Cokie and she does get in trouble for lying. I know Marci would never hurt anyone.
At the hotel, after the fireworks ended, Jenny, who was still trying to get back to me, stopped in front of me. Oh, brother. I had enough with her.
"What I don't get is you girls are friends," said Jenny.
"Do you got a problem with that?" I asked.
"Yes," said Jenny.
"Newsflash: if I want to be friends with Marci, that's my decision. Therefore, you need to mind your business," I said.
"That's right, so you need to get over it," said Marci.
"I know what you're trying to do, but I told you that is not going to happen," I said.
"I think you're mean," said Jenny.
Marci gave her a Look. "She is not mean."
"And, read my lips: I am not reconnecting with you. End of story," I said.
That was when I stormed off. Jenny did not realize Dad was nearby. He went over to her and gave her a Stern Look.
"I bet he heard that," whispered Patti.
"Me, too," said Marci.
"Good, I'm glad," said Kathi.
"You had no right to be saying that to Mary Anne," said Dad.
"But it's true," said Jenny.
"No, it's not true. She is getting fed up with you," said Dad.
I saw Ralph to tell him.
"It's funny that you came to tell me because your father asked me about it earlier," said Ralph.
"She just accused me of being mean," I said.
"Mean? No, you are not mean," said Ralph.
"Marci just gave her a lecture," I said.
"Good," said Ralph.
"I don't think Jenny cares how much this hurt me," I said.
"I can tell you're hurt," said Ralph.
"Very. Can you make Jenny understand?" I asked.
"Of course," said Ralph.
"No offense, but I just can't leave to leave tomorrow," I said.
"I hear you," said Ralph.
"I'm going back to the hotel room," I said.
"You can do that while I go have a talk with Jenny," said Ralph.
I had just left there when Marci came. "Mr. Spier fetched me to come for you."
"Okay, I knew about what happened anyway," said Ralph as he went to Jenny. "Excuse me, Jenny, what is wrong with you telling Mary Anne that she is mean? What you did was uncalled for."
"I was giving her a lecture after I heard that," said Dad.
"So did I," said Marci.
"Glad you heard that," said Ralph.
"She made it clear that she doesn't want to be friends with you," said Dad.
"I let Jenny have it by telling her that Mary Anne is not mean," said Marci.
"I'm glad you were nearby," said Dad.
"Me, too," said Marci.
"I'm going to fix you good by banning you from staying in touch with her," said Dad.
"But that's not fair," said Jenny.
"Yes, and that's final," said Ralph. "As matter of fact, we're leaving now. I'm going to tell your father when I drop you off."
"Where's Mary Anne anyway?" asked Dad.
"Oh, I forgot to tell you that she was going back to the hotel room while she was talking to me," said Ralph.
"That's okay," said Dad.
After they left, Mr. Thomas came. "Does anyone want ice cream before go back to our rooms for the night?"
"Sure," said Kayla.
"You guys can go without me so I can go talk to her," said Dad.
"Let me give you our spare hotel room key," said Kaylee.
"Thank you," said Dad.
"We have to leave anyway. Have a great rest of your summer," said Richie.
In the hotel room, I was putting my nightgown on. I was brushing my hair when I heard the door opening. That was when I saw it was just Dad.
"I just wanted to check to see how you were doing," said Dad.
"I'm trying to forget about it," I said. "Before I forget, I would like to say thank you for help."
"Of course," said Dad with a grin.
"I don't regret on what I did, but it didn't end well," I said.
"Do you want to talk about it?" asked Dad.
"Yes, but I'll be out in a minute," I said.
"Okay," said Dad.
After I finished brushing my hair, I went out to join him.
"I decided to tell Jenny after the party, but I did it before we came here to see the fireworks," I said.
"I wondered how you made out with that," said Dad.
"She won't give up for trying," I said. "She was trying to force me to fix our friendship."
"She shouldn't be forcing you to remain friends," said Dad.
"All she kept doing was asking for me to forgive her and to start over. I managed to forgive her, but I told her reconnecting will not happen," I said. "She didn't like it one bit, but I told her she would've thought about it before."
"I agree with you," said Dad. "You made it clear that you don't want to be doing that."
"She told me she didn't get that Marci and I are friends. We both said to mind her business," I said.
"That's right," said Dad.
"I deleted and blocked Jenny's number," I said. "I needed to walk away because I was getting fed up with her."
"I don't blame you," said Dad. "I heard her what she said to you and gave her a lecture for it."
"So did Marci," I said.
"She was telling me. I was glad she was nearby," said Dad.
"Same," I said.
"I forbid Jenny from staying in touch with you and Ralph agreed with me," said Dad.
"Thank goodness," I said.
"So you know what to do whenever you had any other problems like that for next time," said Dad.
"I'm still planning going to you in case I need any advice before taking any steps," I said.
"I'm fine with that," said Dad.
"I find that helped me make me feel good about making tough decisions," I said.
"That's a good thing," said Dad.
"I might go to bed early tonight so I can clear my head and be refreshed for the morning," I said.
"Okay. Don't forget if you need me, I'll be right next door," said Dad. "I love you, honey."
"Love you, too, Dad," I said as we hugged.
