Roses are red,

Violets are blue,

How the FUCK did I get here?

Cause I have no FUCKING clue!

'Dang, I'm so good at making rhymes.' I thought as I held back a smug smile that was about to appear on my face. Though that doesn't answer my question of...

...

...

...

..

.

'HOW IN THE NAME OF MOTHER NATURE AM I HERE IN THE FREAKING HUNGER GAMES! YES, THAT'S RIGHT, I'M IN THE MOTHER FLIPPING HUNGER GAMES!!! NOT THE MAIN ONE THOUGH, OH NO, THAT SEEMS LIKE A BIT EASY! JUST A BIT!!! INSTEAD, I GOT SENT 64 YEARS BEFORE THE MAIN HUNGER GAMES!!! IT DOESN'T HELP THE FACT THAT I HAVEN'T FINISHED THE BOOK NOR WAS I EVEN HALFWAY THROUGH IT!!!'

Though my thoughts are in disarray, it didn't show on my face... maybe a bit. The group, who introduced themselves as the Covey, somehow got into an agreement and some argument with Billy Taupe that I could stay at their place after I told them that I have no place to stay here. They somehow believed that I came from the north as they asked me various questions, especially the youngest named Maude Ivory, about what it is like to live there and many more, and I answered them as best as I can. The guy who pushed me, Billy Taupe, has been keeping his eyes on me ever since, and boy do I feel uncomfortable with him. We've done the introductions earlier so now we know all their names.

'...Not as uncomfortable as I am right now.'

Right now, I am sitting on some stool, sweat dripping on my body as I gulp in nervousness. I am face-to-face with some old man, looking at me with narrowed eyes as his clothes are covered a bit with coal dust, along with some on his body. His arms are crossed, and he is also sitting on another stool across from me. Newsflash, I am still soaking wet from my nice bath from the lake.

'...I've never felt so judged in my entire life.' I thought to myself as the old man and I were still in a silent staring contest. He is so winning this. Though, to my surprise, the old man starts to speak.

"...So you're telling me... this guy came from the north and has no place to go and you guys offered him our house for him to stay?" The old man asked with his raspy voice.

"Yep." Most of the Covey responded, except for Billy Taupe. The old man let out a sigh as he pinched the bridge of his nose. I can tell he was a bit annoyed.

"Our supplies are low, and you guys took in a homeless guy that was stranded in the middle of the forest. There are already six of you and now you guys had to add one more mouth to feed."

...Ok, for some reason, it felt like he insulted me in 74 different languages.

"Actually, I can do some workloads to pay you back. I wasn't planning to stay here for free." I said as I let out a nervous smile.

The old man looks at me for a bit. "How old are you?"

I felt myself relax for a bit. "I just recently turned 18." As I said that, the old man looked at me up and down, making me once again uncomfortable.

"Well, you aren't fit to be a miner, I see no muscle in you. Must be because you haven't experienced hard labor in the north now, have you? You were probably just lying on your bed doing nothing, that's what I'm currently seeing right now, boy." The old man said coldly.

...Make that 75 languages.

Before I could respond, he starts coughing harshly... right on my face. I close my eyes as his saliva hits my face and maybe even on my mouth. "Great, you made me waste my breath on you."

...76 languages.

I sucked it up and started to wipe the saliva off of my face using the wet sleeve of my hoodie.

"I'm gonna lay down on my bed and rest. I'm getting too old for this." He then looks at the Covey, who were listening to us while preparing dinner. "You brought it, you guys take care of it." That was the last thing he said before going inside his room and closing the door with a bang.

... He called me an it. Wow, that makes it 77.

Good news, I got a pair of dry clothes from Billy Taupe; he begrudgingly agreed after much convincing by Maude Ivory. It was less like convincing and more like forcing from my perspective, but hey, free clothes! Although, for some reason, his clothes were the right size for me.

'Huh, what a strange coincidence.'

Right now, me and the Covey were having dinner, without the old man. He said he was full and couldn't eat a bite, possibly because of his coughing. I can still hear him coughing throughout the house. "He's got the black lung, that's why he coughs a lot," Maude Ivory said innocently as she hands me a plate full of food. "Hope ya like some katniss! Me and CC recently plucked it down by the lake where we found ya!" Maude Ivory said with a smile as she goes back to serve food to the Covey.

Though I blink in confusion. "Katniss? What's that?"

Clerk Carmine, or CC as the Covey called him, came to my rescue. "It's basically swamp potato, but Lucy Gray reckons the term katniss suits it better."

I let out a look of understanding... then realization. 'Ah, so that's where Katniss was named after!'

...

.

'...If any Hunger Games fanatics can read my mind, I swear they will kill me with such a simple revelation.'

I then look at the plate of food right in front of me and use it to scoop some katniss and ate it. My eyes light up at the taste. It was delicious! I've never had food like this before!

"I reckon this is yer first time eatin' some katniss?" Lucy Gray asked with an amused smile. I didn't realize she was staring at me, not just her though, the entire Covey was staring at me. Eating their food and staring at me as if I was their entertainment.

My self-consciousness then kicked in as I nervously smile. "Yes, actually. We didn't have katniss back home." I hope my words don't make me sound ignorant. Cause boy, do I want to dig myself a grave.

"Really? What kinda food did y'all eat up North?" The other guy, Tam Amber asked as he eats his swamp potato. The gears in my mind started to turn as I think of some answer.

'...I can't say canned foods and packed noodles now, can I? Not always though but there's a possibility I may get interrogated about those things... if I convert the era I am in right now to the Gregorian calendar or something, the BSS timeline or as far as I am seeing might be in the 50s - 60s. I may be wrong since I already read the first part of the book and just basing the surroundings around me, but look at me theorizing! It makes me seem smart, but there's a chance I might be right... though I didn't watch the movie but still proves my point! Oh yeah, it's all coming together.'

The Covey just looks at the young man in confusion and a bit afraid. Because the said young man was suddenly chuckling and smiling triumphantly out of nowhere. Like he found something funny and interesting that they couldn't see nor hear.

Billy Taupe decided to snap the young man out of his creepy state. "What're ya laughing about, north boy? Laughin' at how our food ain't as good as y'all's back home?" he asked with his usual bite.

The young man snapped out of his state as he flushed in embarrassment. "What?! No!! I just get like this when I think." Y/n said with a nervous smile. "Sorry if I made you guys uncomfortable."

"So y'all reckon you get all creepy-like when y'all start thinkin'?" Billy Taupe asked sarcastically, making Lucy Gray, who was sitting right beside him, nudge his side with her elbow; it wasn't rough nor was it gentle. "What? That's what he's confessin'!"

Y/n just nervously smiles as he takes a mental note to not do that again. He then looks at Tam Amber as he answers his question. "Well, we usually pair our meals with rice." The Covey listens intently. "We have dishes like sisig, sinigang, tinola, kaldereta, dinuguan, and many more."

The Covey was in awe; they had never heard dishes like that before. Maude Ivory then asked, "What're they made of?" She's curious if the dishes Y/n listed down were delicious. Y/n smiles as he continues to explain.

Y/n decided to take the job of washing the dishes; it's the least he can do as he was given a roof to stay in and food to eat. While he was washing the dishes, he could feel someone staring at him. When he looked back, he saw nothing... that is until he noticed that the door of the old man's room was a bit open and a pair of eyes were looking at him. At that scene, Y/n could almost feel his soul leaving due to the terror of it. But he gulped and smiled at the old man... who just kept staring at him.

So Y/n continues with his task despite the creepiness of the old man watching him. He can hear the harsh coughs right behind him. He may be young, but that old man almost gave him a heart attack. For a while, he thought he saw the eyes of the girl from the grudge, peering at him through the small opening of the door. He can already hear the sound that the girl makes when she's close to her prey... it made him shiver.

'Ignore him and focus on the task. He's just suspicious of you. I'd be too if I were in his position.'

After a while, he finished washing the dishes and let out a sigh of relief and then felt someone tugging on my sleeve. He then looks down and saw it was Maude Ivory, holding a basket on one hand. "Ya wanna come with us, Y/n?" she asked with her squeaky voice.

"Oh? Where are you guys going?" He asked curiously. He then noticed that she had a different type of clothing on. Must be some occasion they're heading to.

"Me and the Covey are heading to the Hob! We got us a job there performing for the folks." She said with a smile.

Y/n blinks and thought about it. "So you guys are like, musicians?" I asked and she nodded. I was about to speak some more but the old man fully opens his door as he looks at us. He still has the cold look in his eyes.

"Now, wait just a minute, missy. If you are going to bring him to the Hob, do NOT mention to the people there that he is from the north. I repeat, do NOT mention he's from the north. Too many peacekeepers there and who knows what they would do if they report to the Capitol that there are people up to the north. Tell the others that also."

He said as he coughs harshly and closes the door of his room with another loud bang.

'...You know, throughout the whole conversation, I have not been referred to as a human being...that makes it 78.'
