Chapter 4: Opposites really do Attract

"Ok Eddie are you ready?"
Eddie took a breath and looked at Jamie, who squeezed her hand in support and comfort.
"Right here. I'm not going anywhere."
Nodding, Eddie looked Doctor Fletcher in the eye.
"Ok. Let's get this show on the road."
Doctor Fletcher gave Eddie a smile and nodded at her, giving her a confident look.
"Alright Eddie. What I'm going to have you do is close your eyes and imagine a light breeze on you. Now imagine the warm breeze wrapping around you like a blanket. You should be able to feel that breeze all the way down to your toes. Take a deep cleansing breath. You should now be in a room. Can you describe it?"
With her eyes still closed, Eddie opened her mouth to speak.
"It's a bedroom. There's not much in it. There's something soft under me. I'm in a bed…"
Jamie kept his hand in Eddie's as he looked at Doctor Fletcher.
"Ok, can you describe how your feeling right now?"
Looking back to Eddie, Jamie saw her nose begin to flare slightly and her breath begin to quicken.
"It hurts… I can't do this! Jamie get him out!"
Doctor Fletcher leaned forward and whispered toward Jamie.
"Reassure her. Tell her its ok. She's safe. You won't let anything happen to her."
Nodding in agreement, Jamie squeezed Eddie's hand.
"Eddie, I know your tired and in pain, but I need you to listen to me. Your safe. I won't let anything happen to you. I promise. I'm right here. We're almost done with this assignment. I need you to push one more time for me. That's it."
Jamie felt awkward talking to Eddie through her subconscious state of mind. But it was working. Her hand was still holding onto his, but its vice-like grip was loosening slightly. He saw her breathing become more even and the tears had stopped coming down her cheeks. Doctor Fletcher took this moment to step back in and slowly bring her back to the present.
"Eddie. I need to to listen to the sound of my voice. Do you feel that warm breeze around you like a blanket? Do you feel it all the way down to your toes?"
Eddie nodded and took a deep cleansing breath, then answered.
"Mmm hmm."
Doctor Fletcher nodded in satisfaction and kept looking at Eddie.
"Ok Eddie I want you to open your eyes now."
Jamie watched as Eddie slowly opened her eyes, she seemed confused for a moment but then realization hit her.
"Doctor Fletcher? I feel so tired…"
Doctor Fletcher nodded seriously and finished jotting down a note or two on her pad of paper.
"You did good today Eddie. We're making progress. Let's set up an appointment for say Thursday of next week?"
Eddie nodded and got up slowly.
"Thank you Doctor Fletcher. Although I don't remember what happened to me. Did I black out?"
Doctor Fletcher shook her head no.
"No, I used a form of hypnosis to bring forward your memories from the undercover operation. We've made some really good progress today."
"What are you thinking Ed?"
Eddie had her head lying up against his chest as he lie flat on his back on the couch.
"Opposites really do attract."
With furrowed eyebrows, Jamie rested his chin on the top of Eddie's head.
"Don't I know that. Look at us."
Eddie did her best to look up into Jamie's eyes.
"Thanks for being there for me today Jamie. Even though I don't remember what happened."
Jamie reached a hand out and placed it on her right cheek, caressing it.
"We're working on getting past this. The both of us. Doing that undercover op with you made me realize what was right in front of me."
Eddie became confused for a minute and then looked up into Jamie's eyes.
"What?"
Jamie gave a soft laugh which vibrated against Eddie's head on his chest.
"Not a what. A who. That who is you sweetheart."
Eddie could hear the tone in his voice. It made her heart skip a beat. Snuggling closer, she wrapped her arms around him and didn't let go.
"Your the best that's every happened to me Jamie Reagan."
Jamie giving a playful smile gave another laugh.
"Can I get that in writing babe?"
Eddie felt a slight blush come to her face. She'd never felt like this about any other guy before. Jamie just got her.
