The Painful Truth - Chapter 40: Coincidence

.

Monday, November 21:

Dawn, Ranka's Memorial, Morinozuka Estate:

"Hi, Dad. Hi, Mom."

I swallowed hard at the lump in my throat when I saw the cards and small candies scattered around Dad's marker. Some of his friends from the bar must have left them.

"Do you like your new home?" A breeze ruffled my bangs, and I smiled.

Moving my parents and Junto-san was the right thing to do. I can easily visit them without worrying about my fans showing up, and apparently the girls from the bar are having no problem visiting either. The Morinozuka's have been so incredibly generous, and the location is perfect near the back gate allowing easy access.

My shaking hand surprised me as I lit the incense. It's been too long since I caught them up on my life.

"Takashi and I are getting closer."

Closing my eyes, I could almost feel his hands gliding up my thigh from the dream last night. It's not the physical closeness but my being comfortable with it that's making me realize my feelings.

"I think I'm falling in love with him."

That doesn't mean falling in bed with him, but it makes it tempting in a way it never was with Kyoya. Right now, I have no intention of quitting the birth control. If we take that step, kids will not be part of the plan. Not for many years.

"I'm not sure how he feels about me, but I know him. He's an honorable man. We wouldn't be dating," and enjoying our physical closeness, "if he wasn't serious about our relationship. But we have plenty of time to figure it out."

I could almost hear my father wailing about his baby girl and how I have years and years before I should be serious. I felt a smile spread across my face and a tear run down my cheek. "I miss you both so much."

I told them about my classes, how art history is still difficult, English and Japanese are interesting, and politics is a challenge.

Time to bring up my future…

"Petto Chinmi is doing well. We're building a new concept store on the website that features small business artists and their pet related items. I'll have to restrain myself from buying the cats everything we sell. Those two are a riot. I'm still waiting for Koko to fall into the koi pond trying to play with the fish."

A couple leaves skittered by in the wind, and I pulled my jacket tighter. The air is so crisp and clean here compared to the city. It's almost as if the pollution wouldn't dare desecrate this historic estate.

"We settled our lawsuit, so we have the funds to expand now. At least a dozen new stores."

I took a deep breath and blew it out. "I'm not sure how being a lawyer fits into my life now. I can't imagine handing over management of Petto Chinmi to become its lawyer, and I couldn't do both well.

"I'm just a few months away from graduation and have been applying to many different universities in Japan and overseas. I'm just not sure what I want. What will work best.

"The idea of university overseas is appealing because I'll get away from the fans. I won't be recognized. Not in England or the United States. At least not for a couple of years until Karou brings the line there. And even then, I don't think it will be as bad as here. But after what happened to Keiko, I'm definitely not going to Stanford. But violence like that isn't limited to that campus.

"Cambridge is looking better and better, but I'm not sure I want to leave the country for that long. I'd have to hand over management of Petto Chinmi to Tanaki-san for months at a time and travel back and forth during breaks. Flight time from London to Tokyo is fifteen hours. It's ten from Tokyo to Sydney and just an hour's difference. That may be more convenient."

Great. Now I'm rambling.

"Am I trying too hard to make international education work to get away from the fans and press?"

I laughed when the incense smoke blew in my face. "Thanks for the reality check, Dad. I guess I need to talk this over with someone who will give me unbiased advice…"

Late Morning, Various Locations, Ouran:

I distracted the Chairwoman and Ouran head of security while Hartwell slipped a camera and bug under a lip at the top of a shelf in the library. I wonder how long it will take for it to be discovered.

This place isn't like the yakuza compounds or the various family estates. I've never seen a school like this…designed for the elite children of the country. The challenges for securing a property this large are something I'm used to after being on the security logistics team for the United Nations for so many years. Huge property, almost two hundred different security teams to work with, and all the petty squabbling. Yes, I worked with politicians, but sometimes they aren't much different from school children.

I wish Ogata-san was here, but he's still in the hospital after last night's food poisoning incident. That was unexpected. Several of us on the review team met early this morning to add protocols to our inspections to cover food safety, specifically how it could be contaminated from an outside source. We already had some protocols for kitchens, but the new ones tightened them considerably.

"If there are no more questions regarding the library, we can move onto the sports complexes…"

Of all the families, only the Cho's aren't linked to Ouran anymore, so this inspection is critical. Suoh-sama contracted the review team to do a full inspection of the entire school in addition to the inspection we were already doing for the Group families. This involves the entire school, elementary, middle, and high school. The team will be here all day with several smaller inspections throughout the next week or two.

"Urbach-san?"

I looked up and nodded, "Yes, Tetsuya-san?"

"Kasanoda-sama's environmental planning company retrofitted the main sports complex just a few months ago. The plans have been emailed to the review team."

"Thank you. How is he feeling?"

"Better, thank you. I'll be heading back to the hospital after we're finished with the high school. If things go the way the doctor is planning, he'll be released this afternoon."

"And Kono-san?"

"Him as well."

.

As a trained yakuza security guard, I didn't laugh, but I sure wanted to. Seeing Kono so sick last night, both the Young Lord and I teased him mercilessly. The way he reacted, it might be the last time he ever eats something he didn't cook.

I managed to get my hands on a box of airplane sick bags and hid them throughout his bedroom.

And I think Shinobu-sama has plans to drag him out shoe shopping soon.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw that American Secret Service guy Hartwell-san plant another camera, this one in the warmup area for the Karate club.

We haven't told any of the other families about the cameras. They need to sink or swim on their own. So far, the Kasanoda's have the best time for finding theirs.

Lunch, Dining Hall, Ouran:

My brother's sick at home, and I'm here at school.

What the fuck?

I should be with him. He needs me.

I can't fucking believe Mom made me come to school! She dragged me home in the middle of the night and made me sleep by myself! Then woke me up and sent me to school. Kaoru wasn't released from the hospital until just a couple hours ago.

He keeps texting me. Telling me he's fine. Eating pudding and sleeping.

And I'm here without him.

I jumped when Haruhi squeezed my hand. "He's fine, Hikaru. You need to stop obsessing."

"He's home by now, right?" Renge asked.

"Yeah. Says he's eating chocolate pudding."

"Yuck. How can he eat something so like custard after last night…?"

Haruhi just shook her head, "He's a teenage boy. They eat anything."

"Is anyone still in the hospital?"

Chika looked up from his phone, "Satoshi. He didn't get sick until this morning and hasn't stopped throwing up yet."

Several of us shuddered, and Yuki rubbed her stomach. I don't think any of us will be forgetting last night anytime soon.

"I wanna go home."

"I know," Haruhi rubbed my back, "but Kaoru needs his sleep, and he's counting on you to bring him his assignments."

"You could bring them to both of us."

"I could, but I won't. You need to be here. Think of it as character development."

"Whatever."

.

As we were headed to art history, Renge pulled me aside. "Hey, Haruhi?"

"Hmm?"

"Is Kyoya dating anyone?"

"I don't think so. Why?"

"Well," she lowered her voice and practically whispered, "he was so mad at Tamaki last night because he talked him into trying the dessert."

Then she looked around to make sure we were alone. "He was mad because he said he was missing out on sex…so who's he having sex with?"

Sex? Kyoya?

I don't think he's dating anyone. Not with the way he reacted to Keiko's death. It's too soon after that, and he hasn't been back in Japan that long.

"He was probably really angry at Tamaki and just said that."

I could tell Renge didn't really buy it, but she let it go as we walked into the classroom and took our seats.

Could he have arranged a marriage already?

Doubtful.

And from everything I've heard about his type of arranged marriages, they're practically business relationships. They wouldn't be having sex before marriage. They'd probably only have sex to try for kids…heirs.

Business relationship…

If anyone has an arrangement for sex for money, it would be Kyoya.

I'm probably the least naive of the group to that type of thing. I have no proof and I never asked, but when we were really struggling after mom's death, I think dad took money from his 'boyfriends'. No judgement. Parents do all kinds of things to ensure the health and welfare of their kids. And no judgement to Kyoya. It's one way to get the closeness we all crave without worrying about his social standing and reputation.

"What are the three main characteristics of Gothic art, Fujioka-san?"

Crap. When did class start?

After Lunch, Various Locations, Todi:

"How's Ootori-sama?"

Tachibana-san gave me a flat, security glance, "Fine. He's been released and is at home recuperating." Then a small smile flashed across his face, "And Cho-sama?"

I checked my watch. 1:09. "Due to be released from the hospital any minute. I don't like not being there…"

"The food poisoning didn't leak. The security risk is minimal. She's much more likely to be in danger here on campus."

"Hence why I'm here," I nodded. "Doesn't mean I like it, but this has been scheduled for over a week."

Rather than a test of the university's security (like the Ouran inspection also scheduled for today), this tour is to show the review team what we, as detail heads for the university students, encounter on a daily basis and get their recommendations for improvement. The campus security head is with us to answer questions, not to be inspected himself.

Hasn't stopped Faulds-san from giving him pointers, though culturally, he doesn't face some of the issues universities in England do. "I checked your published statistics for on-campus assaults. They're quite low."

"Thank you." I heard the sincerity in his voice. Apparently, he didn't hear the implication of coverup in Faulds-san's.

He gave the man a glare, but he still didn't understand. I jumped in, "Assault numbers in Japan are lower than in England and the United States for several reasons. The reported numbers are accurate."

Faulds-san finally seemed to realize he was touching on the security head's honor and backed down. He still made some random recommendations about cutting back vegetation and adding more light in certain areas. I'll be interested to see if the changes are made.

Cho-sama doesn't have night classes. I never noticed the issues.

Mid-Afternoon, Cho's Room, Cho Estate:

I'd just been settled into bed when Honey-kun burst into my room, "Cho-chan! How are you?" He must have come straight from class.

"Tired." My mother wanted an ambulance to bring me home, but I put my foot down. I'm not being sick anymore, so a limo was just fine.

But she's been hovering.

"I'm so sorry you were sick, Cho-chan. Is there anything I can do?"

"I don't think so other than please lower your voice. I have a headache."

Instantly, he was whispering, "I'm sorry, Cho-chan. Do you want some medicine? Should I get you a cold cloth?"

It's nice to have him here, but he's not good in a sick room. Too much energy.

"How about you climb in and rub my head while I try to sleep?"

"OK!" He saw my wince and lowered his voice again, "I'll help you have the best nap."

Fortunately, he gently climbed in rather than bouncing. His finger combing through my hair helped me settle. A gentle kiss on the back of my head was the last thing I remembered.

.

My poor Cho-chan.

I must plan the proposal. This weekend will be perfect. I'll make the reservation and plan the most elaborate cake to celebrate.

I can't believe Chika-chan guessed I was going to dress up as a bunny.

At least I was going to before Keiko-chan. I was going to dress up as Usa-chan and jump out of a cake to propose. But not anymore.

Cho-chan deserves something more romantic, more…adult. More loving.

And private.

A private dining room at the best restaurant in Tokyo. Italian, one of her favorites. Or maybe the apartment? I could make sure Takashi is out with Haru-chan.

Cho-chan doesn't know, but I have the ring.

It's going to be perfect.

After Classes, Hitachiin Computer Gaming:

"What the hell's wrong with you?" Natsumi-san smacked me on the back of the head.

"Huh?"

"Earth to Hikaru-san? We've been talking to you for the last five minutes, and you're just sitting there like a lump. What's wrong?"

Shit. The entire game development team is staring. Do I tell them? Why not? It's not like they don't know we're close. "Kaoru's sick."

"Oh," Natsumi-san dropped into the seat next to me, and put her arm around my shoulder, "I'm sorry to hear that. Is it serious?"

"Food poisoning. They let him out of the hospital this morning."

"Oh, wow." Most of the guys left, but she squeezed me tighter, "They wouldn't have let him leave if he wasn't doing better. Sounds like he just needs some rest."

"Yeah," I heaved a big sigh, "that's what the doctor said. I'm just worried. He's my twin, you know?"

"True." Then she stood and pulled me up with her, "Let's check out the zombie sharks. They're ready for another round of testing."

"Fine." Better than just sitting here.

Dinner, Family Dining Room, Shido Estate:

I gave Fuyumi and family a quick, non-graphic rundown of the food poisoning last night, trying not to smirk remembering my conversation with Kyoya that afternoon…

.

Flashback to phone call:

Akito: "How are you feeling?"

Kyoya: "Like hammered shit, thanks."

Akito: "Assume you won't be at family dinner tonight."

Kyoya: "No way in hell." I'm not letting anyone see me like this. Sota-kun especially. He doesn't need to know I'm human.

Akito: "It's hard to admit you're human just like the rest of us, isn't it?"

Kyoya: How the fuck? "Ootori's don't get sick."

Akito: "You blew that façade last night, Kyoya." Blew…get it?

Kyoya: "Very funny, you dickhead. I'm going back to sleep."

Akito: "Good night. Feel better."

Kyoya: "I'll be fine tomorrow. One day is more than enough to waste on this."

Akito: "If anyone can will themselves better, it's you. Good night."

Kyoya: I hung up and leaned back in bed. I'm going to fucking kill Tamaki.

End flashback…

.

"Well, at least everyone's on the mend," and I started in on my second serving of lasagna. Yummy.

Yuki checked her text chime and smiled, "Satoshi was released from the hospital an hour ago, so everyone's home."

Akito finished his last bite and smirked, "Made me even more certain about my change in specialty. No gastrointestinal issues in psychiatry."

"No, just patients having mental breaks."

"It's cleaner," he shrugged.

After the morning sickness, I could understand why he'd want to avoid all that. I turned to Yuki-chan, "When's your next photography lesson?" Akito's head jerked up, and his eyes tracked back and forth between me and Yuki-chan. "Did something happen?"

"Well…" she started then paused for a couple moments. Strange. "Jigoku-sensei is really busy. I mean, I learned a lot, but he doesn't have a lot of time for me right now." She looked up at Akito, blushed, then looked down at her food. "I'm looking for another instructor."

Something happened, but Akito doesn't seem worried, more surprised that I didn't already know. I'll let it go for now and maybe corner him later. Yuki-chan's still learning she can talk to me about anything, so I'll try not to push. Whatever it was, seems to be resolved. "Different perspectives can only be helpful. Let me know if you need any help finding one."

"Alright." But I get the feeling she won't. Probably trying to reduce my stress as I'm getting closer to delivering this baby.

Can't wait. Only a couple of weeks.

.

After the dinner dishes were cleared, Sota-kun couldn't help himself anymore and started bouncing. "Is it time yet, Mom? Is it?"

"Yes," she turned and signaled the maid. I knew what was coming. Sota-kun told me when I got home from Ouran. He's not good at keeping secrets.

"Yea! Cake!" he yelled as a huge birthday cake was brought out and set down in front of me. Chocolate with chocolate frosting. My favorite.

"Happy Birthday, Yuki-chan!" Fuyumi called as Umeji started cutting.

They all sang a very off-tune version of 'Happy Birthday' and we all dug into our slices.

"Eighteen. Are you excited?"

"Definitely," I said through a mouthful of frosting. "I can't wait." I know I'm blushing thinking of my birthday trip.

"I thought about holding off since Kyoya isn't here, but since you'll be out with friends on the actual day, we're doing a family celebration tonight. Besides," Fuyumi stuffed a bite in her mouth and swallowed, "Kyoya will be out with you on Wednesday."

"Thank you."

"And are you ready for our trip?" Akito asked, a big smirk on his face.

"As ready as I can be when I don't know where we're going."

"Ooo," Fuyumi squealed, "I do. You'll love it. Akito showed me pictures. You'll have a wonderful time."

"Well, I'm more or less packed. I have a spa appointment tomorrow after classes."

"Mani-pedi?" Fuyumi asked.

"Yes," then I turned to Akito and smiled, "And a wax. I've been told to bring bikinis."

The look on his face was worth the embarrassment and the pain.

Evening, Teen Magazine Offices:

I leaned down and whispered in my client's ear, "Smile, Fujioka-sama. You may not want to be here, but the interview and publicity will be better if they don't know that."

A smile instantly lit her face. "Sorry, Inokuma-san."

"No problem. Just try to enjoy this as much as you can."

I ignored her grumbles and handed her a bubble-tea. Maybe the sugar will help.

Most of my clients can't get enough publicity, but there's an exception to every rule, and as I get to know her, I'm learning she'd much rather use her fame as a scalpel rather than a bludgeon. Makes finding the right events for her harder but more rewarding in the long run.

I love a challenge.

"Alright, Fujioka-san. We'll take a couple of shots with the interviewer, but your agent has provided us with plenty of pictures for the article."

.

Once the photographs were done, we settled into a couple of chairs for the formal interview. I'm glad I insisted on commoner clothes. Not sure who bought this, but I'm comfortable and confident in baggy jeans and purple sweater. Makes me look like the teenager I am rather than a model or business mogul.

"First, how are you feeling?"

Feeling? I didn't eat the contaminated dessert. And I thought it didn't leak.

"Your scar is fading."

Scar. Oh, my face and hand. They're still hung up on that. Seems like forever ago. "Fully healed. The scar," I reached up and touched it gently, "will continue to fade, and my hand is healing well. Some of my physical therapy includes autographs," I smirked. Never would have thought that a couple of years ago.

"I'm sure your fans will be excited to hear that. I know you have a fashion show in just under two weeks."

"Yes, the Every Woman winter line debut. I'm looking forward to showing off Kaoru's latest designs."

"We hear rumors you're being replaced as the face of the line…"

"Replaced?" Kaoru would never start rumors like that, so they must be messing with me. "Oh, no. If my scar didn't cause my replacement, nothing will. We are adding two new models, one in their thirties, the other in her fifties to the lineup. The three of us will better demonstrate the entire demographics the line is targeting. It's not just for those new to business like me, but for mothers, and those at the top."

"Interesting. When will we be seeing these new models and where did they come from?"

"They're commoners and new to modeling. As for when, I'm not sure. I think for the Spring line, but you'll have to ask Kaoru."

"Oh, we definitely will." What a predatory smile. I'd feel sorry for Kaoru, but he did this to himself.

"I hear congratulations are in order over a lawsuit at Petto Chinmi."

"Thank you. Yes, we settled for everything I was holding out for." I went on to discuss the settlement and their acceptance of guilt. "We'll be using that money to create a new webstore and expand our shops into new areas."

"What's the webstore?"

"We're still working through the legal issues, but it will feature Japanese artists and their pet-related items. We're very excited."

We went back and forth about work, Ouran, and more about modeling. I practically ran for the exit when it was over.

Tuesday, November 22:

After Classes, Kasanoda Imports, Nagoya:

"You doing OK, Young Lord?" I asked as I lowered the divider on the SUV. He's lying down on the seat looking slightly green.

"Just fucking dandy, Tetsuya. Piss off," and he rolled over to face the seat. Maybe we shouldn't be driving so much today, but he insisted.

Just like Kono, who demanded to escort Shinobu-sama to school today.

They think they're indestructible.

I am a badass yakuza.

I will not be sick.

I am a badass yakuza.

I did not need to stay in bed today.

After Classes, Main Conference Room, Petto Chinmi:

"And this ad is for the new indoor dog park that just started carrying food and snacks."

"It's huge…"

And it was. Full billboard size showing me being tackled by four huskies as I tried to throw a ball for them. The display rotated through four pictures starting with me throwing the ball, the biggest barreling straight into me, me knocked flat with two of them staring, and finally one of them bringing me the ball and holding it over my face while I'm laughing my head off. It's a good series.

"They have an indoor billboard?"

"Yes, Fujioka-sama. And after a week of this ad, we'll replace it with this one." He hit a button and a video replacing the stills played. Same scene, just me being knocked over and flying in real time. "It will give us a chance to compare the difference in sales with the pictures versus the video."

"My ad isn't the only one playing on that billboard, it is?"

"Oh, no. They have about twenty that rotate."

"Good." How boring would it be to keep seeing me getting knocked over.

"That's it for all the new ad placements." He brought up a new presentation and another video of me being tackled by dogs started to play. This time, they're knocking me off the innertube into the snow. Great. "Let's go through all the places video will be replacing stills starting on Saturday."

Let's not.

But I took a deep breath and nodded. I asked for this. Hopefully, the videos won't be that much more effective. A girl can dream.

"We'll start by replacing all the stills on all social media platforms we're currently using…Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, along with newspaper and magazine websites."

.

Once the advertising company had finished and left along with her agent, we started our meeting on the new website.

"Legal and marketing are still working on the contracts, the sales processes, and various other issues. While that's being hammered out, I've had Ashida-san researching artists."

I turned the meeting over to our sponsorship coordinator. She's been proving herself lately and asking for more responsibility. The marketing aspect of the new website and all the new ads have had me too busy.

She cleared her throat and took a deep breath, "I started with established artists that produce small items that can be turned around quickly. This way our initial offerings aren't overwhelmed and immediately put on backorder."

"Good idea," Fujioka-sama said with a smile. She's good at encouraging the best from her employees.

Ashida-san smiled back and started to get into a groove with her presentation. She's wearing one of the suits we were given last spring for the dog show with a shirt from the fall line. It's smart that they make the new work with the old. Stretches that yen even more.

She went through several ideas and displayed the items that had already arrived. "Right now, they just think we're another individual customer. If we're happy with their products, we can decide to approach them once we have the processes finalized."

Fujioka-sama picked up the personalized collars with her cats' names on them, "I'll try these on tonight and let you know what they think of them."

Afternoon, Fancypants Elite Spa, Tokyo:

"Thanks for the invitation, Yuki. My nails are in terrible shape."

"It's always more fun with a friend," I smiled as Renge stared at her fingers like they were personally insulting her. I don't know what she does to them, but her manicures never last. "I would have asked Cho too, but…"

"Yeah, I called her last night to see how she's doing, but she was still out of it."

"Poor thing. I'm so glad I didn't eat that custard." I shivered just thinking about it.

"So," her eyes glinted, "looking forward to your birthday trip?"

Does she know what we have planned? "Yes." Good thing we're alone in the sauna.

"Have you got the birth control covered?"

"Yes," I swallowed hard. "I got an implant."

"Good. There's nothing wrong with kids, but I figured you two would wait until you were finished with university."

I gave her a quick onceover and figured if she's going to be nosy, I could be too. "What about you? Have you thought about birth control yet?"

"I'm on the pill." She just tossed that off like she was ordering tea. "I wanted something easy to reverse. I'm not sure Tamaki and I will want to wait on kids until after school."

"Oh." They need an heir. We don't. Akito-kun told me we don't ever have to have kids if we don't want to. I like the idea of delaying the decision as long as possible. We're still figuring each other out.

"Nervous? It will be your first time, right?"

"Yes, and yes. It's a good kind of nervous, though. We've done so much, I'm hoping it's not anticlimactic or anything."

"If it was, do you really think Shinobu and Ritsu would be going at it like bunnies all the time? I mean really…do they think we don't know what they're up to when they sneak away for a quickie?"

"Do you think any of the others are sleeping together?"

"No. I expect Honey and Cho to wait at least until they are engaged, but probably until they're married. Haruhi and Mori will wait until they both realize and tell each other they love each other then pounce. I give them until her graduation night."

"Really?"

"Yeah. It's written all over them both."

"What about you and Tamaki? What's it like?"

She blushed. Finally.

"We haven't…yet. You and Akito have probably done more than we have. I just want to be ready. We might have kids soon after we get married, but it will be after we get married. I'm thinking I'd like a year of just the two of us first."

"Makes sense."

"Akito…" then I stopped. Do I really want to admit this?

"Akito, what?"

"Well…"

Her smile faded, "Did he do something? Do we need to get Shinobu to kill him?"

"No," I laughed, "nothing like that. It's me."

"What's you?"

"Well, he's done it before, and I haven't. What if I don't do it right or he thinks I'm boring."

"Don't be an idiot. That man loves you. There's nothing you could do wrong or not know that he wouldn't understand. Everyone has a first time. But," a huge smirk came across her face, "if you're really worried about that, ask Shinobu for some hints. I'm sure she could tell you something to do that will blow his mind."

"I'm sure she could name several," I smirked back.

Afternoon, Kasanoda Imports, Nagoya:

When the meeting was over, I stood up and announced, "Sounds like you have it under control, Kikuchi-san." Unfortunately, I stood up just a little too fast and hand to grab the table as the room swayed.

Shit.

"Are you alright, Kasanoda-sama?"

"Fine," I waived him off. "Just been sitting too long." I grabbed a bottle of sparkling water out of the fridge on my way out. Maybe that will help. Can't drink the beer in the SUV.

I'm a badass yakuza, and I won't let my stomach run my life.

Tetsuya met me outside the front office. "He's in the car."

"Anyone see you?" He'd picked up my port investigator while I was in the meeting.

"Hell, no."

I just nodded and climbed in.

I'd only met this guy twice, but we'd talked on our burners several times. Bu doesn't know I've got someone investigating trafficking in this port. If he ever finds something, I'll pull her in.

"Anything?"

"Whispers, but nothing substantial. And nothing about anything since Himura-sama's kidnapping. It's dead here."

"What do you think happened?"

"Switched up their game," he shrugged. "Bringing them in through a different port or deserted beach? Changed who they're paying to look the other way? Give it another month or two and I'll know something. No organization is completely quiet for long."

We are, but we engender loyalty, not fear.

"Alright. Let me know if you hear anything."

"Want me to push harder?"

"No. No one can know what you're up to. I can't have this come back on me."

"You got it."

I banged on the divider, and he climbed out when the driver pulled over.

Evening, Group Text [emoji]:

Tamaki: Hello All! What's everyone up to?

Renge: Hello, darling. Studying after an afternoon at the spa

Tamaki: I'm sure you're radiant, my love

Hikaru: Ug…get a room already

Kaoru: Seriously, boss

Akito: Med school library – going silent…

Honey: I'm studying with my Cho-chan. What are you doing, Tama-chan?

Tamaki: Playing ball with my wonderful Antoinette [dog]! She's being groomed tomorrow, so we're getting muddy

Haruhi: groomed at petto Chinmi?

Tamaki: No, my darling friend. The groomer comes here.

Tamaki: Cho – how are you feeling? I've missed you in class…

Cho: Better. Still a little weak and wobbly.

Kaoru: Think you had it worse than me. I only stayed home today because doc wanted me to. Played video games all day.

Hikaru: And I'm kicking his ass now.

Ritsu: In the middle of a workout. Muting conversation

Tamaki: Wait! Will you be there Thursday?

Ritsu: The balloon thing? Yeah.

Ritsu: Bu too. She can't answer. In business mtg.

Tamaki: K. thanks!

Chika: Everyone will be there representing On Okuri. Right?! [stern face]

Yuki: Akito and I will be gone for my birthday trip.

Mori: y

Tamaki: Kyoya?

Chika: That's OK, Yuki. We knew. Have fun.

Haruhi: Yes. Red carpet?

Yuki: Thanks!

Satoshi: will be there but leaving as soon as I can for Neon [dancers]

Honey: Cho-chan and I will

Tamaki: press, no red carpet.

Tamaki: KYOYA?

Kyoya: in class you idiot.

Tamaki: I'm sure he'll be there

Haruhi: Muting conversation. Working

Chika: Good night.

Yuki: Bye

Wednesday, November 23:

Lunch, Music Room 3 Soundproof Room, Shiraishi Conference Call:

Shinobu: "Status on Komorebi's food suppliers? Can we open on Friday?"

Tashiro (Strip Clubs Manager): "We've had health inspectors crawling all over our suppliers the last two days. So far, they're satisfied. No more issues. We'll open on time."

Shinobu: "Press?"

Tashiro (Strip Clubs Manager): "Know nothing about the contamination. We'll have some press there for the opening, but less than the others because of the exclusivity. To date, we've had over fifty applicants for membership. We'll stay open without membership for two weeks then close it to members only with a one-night pass available for purchase once per person."

Shinobu: "Sounds good. Any of the Group ask for membership?"

Tashiro (Strip Clubs Manager): "None as of this morning."

Shinobu: "Keep them all on the open guest list, they can come in without membership anytime. We'll see if any of them do." Be a shocker. At least until the twins turn eighteen. The rest really can't be seen at a yakuza place even if it is legit.

"Alright. That's it for legit stuff. I'll check in with you later."

Tashiro (Strip Clubs Manager): "I'll be in my office. Goodbye Himura-sama."

Shinobu: "Bye."

Once he and my love hotel lawyer were off the phone, we dived into Syndicate business.

Yamaki (Shiraishi Syndicate Second): Now that we can talk…

"Are you keeping the supplier that contaminated the food?"

Shinobu: "Fuck, no. We found someone else."

Yamaki (Shiraishi Syndicate Second): "No second chance? Do you want a permanent solution?"

Shinobu: "His second chance was not giving him a permanent solution. Want to keep the violence and disappearances out of the legit stuff. Too many eyes on us."

But if it had turned out to be on purpose, the bodies would have stacked up.

Yamaki (Shiraishi Syndicate Second): "Makes sense."

Shinobu: "Where are we on the compound apartment repairs?"

Manabu (Shinobu's Assistant): "Started this morning on schedule. Will be a couple of months before we can move our muscle back from the outside apartments."

Shinobu: Fuck. What the fuck was Dai thinking moving them out and letting both sets of apartments go to shit? Fucking idiot.

"I'll talk to the Morinozuka brothers this afternoon about purchasing the apartments once we've got our guys out. If they don't want them, we'll shop them around. I really don't want to keep them."

Manabu (Shinobu's Assistant): "I'll send over the specs so they have all the info."

Shinobu: "That works. Need them by three."

Igaya (Shiraishi Syndicate Security Head): "How's Kono? Haven't seen him around."

Shinobu: "He better fucking be in his rooms. I made him stay home today so he'd be fully recovered for the birthday thing tonight."

I don't know what Tamaki has planned, but I want my best around just in case it's stupid.

After Classes, Mori/Honey Apartment:

We all looked up when Shinobu and Ritsu walked in. They're always last. Either they like to make an entrance, or they think we're stupid and don't realize what they're up to in the guestroom where they change out of their uniforms.

"First things first," she said as she dropped her bookbag on her regular table. "How's everyone feeling?"

With a quick glance at Hika, I answered first, "I'm fine now." She wasn't at lunch today, so I couldn't tell her then. "Spent yesterday at home basically 'cause I didn't want to go to school. Stomach's all settled."

"Good," she turned to Satoshi, "You?"

"Fine. The Morinozuka doctor wanted me home yesterday, but I thought I could have managed. Did a workout this morning. Feel fine."

"Cho?"

She's still a little pale. Had it the worst of us for sure. "I'm alright. Still being careful what I eat, but I'm not still sick." Her smile was weak, but she sure looked better than the last time I saw her in the hospital.

"Let me know if you need anything," she smiled sadly at Cho then raised her voice for the rest of us, "Send any medical expenses to me. The club will cover."

Glancing over at Ootori, she continued, "I've already talked to your hospital admin for the bills." Then it was like she just remembered he was sick too. "How are you feeling?"

"Back to normal."

I hid a smirk, trying not to imagine the formal, buttoned down Ootori over a toilet. I didn't think he'd ever allow himself to become sick. Jackass.

That's when Tamaki stood up and went through the gallery schedule for tomorrow with the balloon fundraiser. I think Hika and I will duck out early with Satoshi for Neon. Sounds boring.

Chika cleared his throat, "Remember that with the exception of Yuki and Akito, you all are expected to be there and participate. This is a joint fund-raising event between the gallery and On Okuri." He glared at Satoshi, "There will be no sneaking out early."

"But…"

"Everyone is cleared to leave after the demonstrations are complete and the kids are gone, but it would be appreciated if not everyone left at once. We don't want a mass exodus noted by the press."

"Cho-chan and I will stay."

"I'll stay until close with Tamaki-kun."

"I suppose Takashi and I can stay."

"Hn."

"Is that enough, Chika? Karou and I were going to Neon with Satoshi."

"Yes, that's enough." He looked up from his phone and asked Shinobu what they're plans were.

"Oh, we're flexible. We could stay or go to Neon. Depends on how it's going."

"Kyoya! Will you be there?"

I held back, but saw Hika roll his eyes and heard him grumble, "He's not on the fucking board."

"I'm bringing the chair of our pediatrics division to see the demonstrations. We intend to leave as soon as the children do."

"Is she your date?"

Date?

"HE is not."

"Oh. But…"

"Leave it, Tamaki."

.

I really should start charging him every time he brings that 'sex' comment of mine up. Can't believe I allowed my anger to let that slip. I thought I'd managed to convince him I was kidding.

After the gallery discussion, everyone settled back to study.

It's good to be back here with my…friends? At least half are. Tamaki, Haruhi, Akito, Yuki, and Renge for the most part. Ritsu and I have tortured killed together. I guess that brings a bond. Though I know he did that for Haruhi and Shinobu. Still not sure why he brought me along. Honey and Mori have welcomed me into their home but hold me at arm's length. They, along with Satoshi, Chika, and Karou are doing it for Haruhi. Hikaru ignores me, but I believe that's the best it will ever be.

I'm sitting across the room from most of them, but close enough to hear Yuki and Akito.

"Should I bring my camera on the trip?"

Damn, that's such a dopey grin he's giving her. Does he have it bad.

"Definitely. We'll be at a beach, so you can take pictures of the sunrise over the ocean."

"Sunrise? Not sunset?"

It's cute how she's trying to figure out where they're going. A few days away in Australia will do them both some good. Of course, I know where they're going. He had to clear it with security when he made their plans.

"I suppose sunset too."

"Alright…" I think she's figured it out but is letting Akito have his fun.

"Have you found another photography instructor?"

Another? What happened to that one she had? I sent a quick text to Tachibana to find out what happened.

"Not yet."

Haruhi must have heard, because she perked up, "What happened to your instructor, Yuki? I thought he was a good fit."

"Well…" her eyes flickered to Akito's, and I knew whatever was coming was a lie, "his schedule got really busy all of a sudden with several new assignments, so it made sense to find someone new."

"Oh. You know you're always welcome at one of my shoots, but it will be next year before Petto Chinmi needs another."

"It's alright. I'm sure there are plenty of instructors in Tokyo. I just haven't looked yet."

Text message from Tachibana: It's not urgent. I'll fill you in when I'm driving you home.

Dammit. Looks like I might be ruining a photographer.

.

Shinobu came up to my table and jerked her head, "Come with me." She added a 'please' when I just stared. I wasn't asking for that, she just surprised me. She hardly ever talks to me outside of Neon.

I followed her over to Takashi and Haruhi's shared desk, and she immediately started talking. "The Shiraishi Syndicate owns several legit apartment complexes. With all the work of turning the Syndicate around and the clubs and hotels, I don't want them. I thought I'd offer to sell them to you first before I shopped them out on the open market."

Takashi waived for her to pull up a chair, and I did too. "Specs?"

"I emailed them just a couple minutes ago."

He pulled them up on his laptop, and I opened them on my phone. Commoner. Not a bad part of the prefecture. Close to shops and public transportation.

"You'll want to inspect them. They need work. We'll need to figure out if you want me to do it before you buy or if you'll do it as part of your rebranding."

"Hn."

"There's another wrinkle," she sighed and stretched out her legs. I tried not to stare. How do girls wear such short skirts? "Right now, they have a bunch of Shiraishi muscle living in them. Construction and repair started this morning on the apartments on my Compound. Once those are finished in February, I'll be moving all my muscle back. There won't be anything but legit tenants in the apartments. I'm not looking to sell until I clear them out."

Good. That would be a deal breaker for Takashi and me.

"Dai was a fucking idiot, and it's taking a while to clean up his mess."

Takashi looked at me, silently asking my opinion. I nodded back, letting him know it's up to him. I really don't care, and he understands the implications better than I do.

"Our management can arrange an inspection. I'd prefer our names not be attached until after you move your men out and the sale is final, if we decide to purchase."

"Works for me," she nodded like she expected that reaction. She probably did. It's not like we were going to jump in a car with her and go see them. "My management team's information is in the email. The head guy knows about your possible interest, be he knows to keep his mouth shut."

I bet he does.

"If you could let me if you're interested by the end of December, that'd be ideal. If you aren't, I'll need to find another buyer."

"That won't be a problem."

.

"Haruhi?" I managed to catch her as she was coming back from the bathroom before she made it back to the library. "Can I talk to you in private?"

"Sure, Yuki." She led the way to her guestroom and waived me to the sofa. "Is everything alright?"

"I think so, but I wanted to get your opinion on something."

As I expected, she smiled and waited patiently. "Sure."

I took a deep breath, blew it out slowly, and told her everything about Jigoku-sensei. All of it. Everything that happened with Renge and Numata-san on Saturday.

And everything else that bothered me.

I'd had days to think about everything. To replay everything that he did over and over and over and over again. The way he casually touched me. A couple of comments that didn't sound off at the time but did after I thought about them.

I spent most of last night going over all the photos I took during his lessons. Remembering what he said, if he touched me, how he looked at me while I took them. I got so angry I had to swim it off for almost an hour.

If anyone will give me an unbiased opinion, it will be Haruhi.

I finally ran down to sputters and sat there while she thought about all I'd said.

It took several minutes, but she looked me in the eye and said, "Thank you."

Thank you?

"Thank you for trusting me with all of that. It couldn't have been easy."

I shook my head, not really having anything to say to that.

"As for my opinion, I believe you absolutely did the right thing firing him. You might have learned some things about photography from him, but the cost was too high."

I nodded, and she continued, "You and I were raised so differently. In fact," she brushed the hair out of her eyes and leaned back, "all the girls in the group were raised so differently. It's kind of a good thing. It lets us all learn from each other."

"I suppose." What do I say? I hated the way I was raised.

"You're an amazing person, Yuki. You have value, you are worthy of respect and kindness. If all that had to happen, I'm glad you're learning just how valuable you are."

"I did the right thing?"

"Without a doubt. He sounds like a real entitled jerk. And," she leaned forward and smiled, "I think I know at least a dozen people out in that library that would ruin him in a heartbeat if you asked."

I nearly choked on my laugh. Haruhi suggesting we ruin him?

"I think I just want to put it behind me."

That got me a smile. "Good. Living your best life is the most satisfying revenge."

Not according to Kyoya or Ritsu or Shinobu or Chika or probably Hikaru or maybe Renge…

"So," she slapped her thighs, "do you want a new individual instructor or are you thinking of a class?"

"Well, I got along great with that photographer from the marketing company that I shadowed. Do you think she'd give private lessons?"

"I'll get her contact information for you."

Dinner, Sky Restaurant 634, Skytree, Tokyo:

"Happy Birthday to you…

"Happy Birthday to you…

"Happy Birthday Dear Yuki…

"Happy Birthday to you!"

The waiter placed the Bun Bun's cake in front of my fiancé, and I took a picture of her blowing out her candles. Fuyumi made me promise to text it to her.

In less than twenty-four hours we'll be on our way to Sydney. In less two days, we'll have had our first time. I can't wait. It will be so perfect.

"Thank you, everyone."

"What did you wish for?"

She blushed scarlet. What did she wish for?

"I wished for an amazing birthday trip with Akito-kun." Her shy eyes tracked up to mine, and I could feel the heat as I blushed at that look.

"I love you," I whispered.

"I love you, too."

.

Tamaki-kun's been acting off all night. Too excited, too keyed up for it to be just about Yuki's birthday.

Once we finished our cake, he finally blew.

"What's everyone want to do now? There are so many things here at Skytree and the shopping mall!"

I gave him a knowing glance, "What do you want to do?" There's no way he doesn't have a plan.

"There's a gachapon store in the mall. I thought we could check it out."

"That sounds like fun, Tama-chan. Cho-chan and I wanna go too!" Cho nodded eagerly.

"Anyone else?"

Kyoya wiped his mouth with a fussily folded napkin and shook his head, "I'm going back to the office." I took Tamaki-kun's hand and shook my head to stop the argument. There's just no way anyone could ever get Kyoya interested in a toy store unless it's his nephew.

"Hika and I are going to go checkout a video game store," Karou called out as he checked the store directory on his phone.

"Yeah. Wanna check Dad's competition."

Shinobu just leaned back with an absolutely evil look on her face, "Kono owes me a pair of shoes."

"Oh, not just no, but FUCK no." Ritsu practically shrank away from her. "There's no fucking way I'm going shoe shopping with you ever again."

"You don't have to, Asshole. Kono's going with me."

I wonder what Kono did. Must have been pretty bad.

Ritsu blew out a big breath in relief, "I'll go to the video store." The twins gave him a thumbs up.

.

The Skytree shopping mall is huge. Full of teenagers. Full of potential fans and threats.

And Haruhi's checking out the directory on her phone.

She hates shopping. What could she possibly be looking for.

"Found it."

Oh, no.

"I figured they had to have a bookstore and stationary shop here." She looked up at me, "Let's go take a look."

It's one thing to come to this restaurant. It's at the top of the tree. It's exclusive. And we're in a private room. But a stationary store in the main mall? Too open. Too many risks.

But I can't say anything. I can't make a security comment.

What do I do?

"Takashi?"

Those huge eyes stared at me. There has to be a compromise.

"How about going to the big bookstore on Friday instead. It will be less crowded and has a bigger selection."

The disappointment on her face was quick as she considered my offer. Then a small smile lit up her eyes, "Alright, but you're buying the coffee."

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Chika roll his. He's not fooled by my offer. "Well, if the two of you are headed back to the estate, do you mind if I catch a ride?"

"Of course not, Chika. You're always welcome."

.

"This was a good idea, Akito-kun," I smiled and rested my head on his shoulder as we strolled through the mall.

The gachapon store sounded like fun, but I knew he wouldn't be interested. I can always go to one when he's studying. Maybe I could take Sota-kun? He'd have an absolute blast.

While I can always use new shoes, Shinobu looked like she wanted to torture Kono alone, so I skipped that one. And I've never been interested in video games.

That left just wandering the mall with Akito-kun.

Perfect.

"Anything I should buy here for the trip?"

Yes, I'm still trying to get him to slip up and give me more hints. I think we're going to the South Pacific somewhere. Only beaches that are close enough.

The look on his face told me I wasn't fooling him. "Beachwear? Although I suspect you already have enough."

"And it's already packed."

Then I spotted the perfect store. "But I could always use more," and I dragged him towards it.

.

This girl is going to kill me.

"It's just for us. I don't think I can wear it on the beach."

A string bikini. A micro-string bikini.

Good thing I'm a doctor. She's going to give me an aneurism.

Thursday, November 24:

Lunch, Music Room 3 Soundproof Room, Ouran:

I just finished going through my company emails when my phone chimed…

Texts between Haruhi and Mori:

Mori: How's lunch?

Haruhi: Just finishing up my emails. Taking thrus lunch for work was good idea

Mori: smart where are you?

Haruhi: soundproof room. Has secure connection. Shinobu uses it on Weds

Mori: What do you want to do this weekend?

Haruhi: Need to study some, but fun sounds good. Shiraishi street fair?

Mori: ?

Haruhi: Shinobu's throwing a street fair for her new neighborhood. Sounds like fun

Mori: not appropriate

Haruhi: oh…keep forgetting

Mori: can hang out at apartment. Movie night?

Mori: Haruhi?

Haruhi: Can't come up with something better, so OK. Don't forget bookstore Friday

Mori: May be working late at sporting goods…

Haruhi: That's OK. I can go by myself. No problem.

Mori: No.

Mori: I'll pick you up at estate or Ouran?

Haruhi: makes no sense for you to come all the way over and then back to store. Meet there at 4?

Haruhi: Can go back to apartment from there. I can cook dinner?

Mori: delicious!

Haruhi: Great. Can swing by grocery store on the way from bookstore

Mori: no need. Email list to me and I'll give to housekeeper. Save time that way.

Haruhi: ok. See you tomorrow at 4 at the bookstore.

Mori: Don't forget balloons at the gallery tonight

Haruhi: Nuts. Not sure why I keep forgetting that.

Mori: I'll pick you up. Planning on coming to dinner at estate.

Haruhi: Are we going anywhere after balloons?

Mori: No.

Haruhi: Then we can ride with your parents. No need to use two cars.

Mori: alright. See you tonight.

Haruhi: see u

.

I turned back to my work emails, but after a few minutes I realized I wasn't concentrating on them.

Focusing back on that text exchange, I read it over twice. Something's off.

Then it hit me.

Takashi and I haven't been out on a date since that security incident with the car.

Sure, we've been out with the group, but not just the two of us. Not out into the city. He's been over at the estate a lot, and I've gone over to the apartment. But no meals, no shopping, no fun.

Coincidence?

Or is this how he's managing my security without involving himself in my security?

Well, Shinobu's street fair might not be appropriate, but there are many other things we can go out and do. I'll find a couple and give him a choice, and we'll just see if he's trying to keep me home. Because that's not acceptable.

And if he tries to keep me home, we're going out for Mexican food.

Afternoon, Private Plane, Taking off from Tokyo:

"Flight time will be just under ten hours. We've reached our cruising altitude, so I've turned off the seat-belt sign. Enjoy your flight."

I gave Akito-kun a gentle glare, "The pilot's in on this too? He won't even say where were going?"

"Peace," he said and handed me his tablet. "Take a look at these."

The screen showed a girl in a bathtub in front of a window…but it wasn't a window. An aquarium? There was a stingray swimming across the glass.

"Swipe," he whispered, and I realized he'd leaned in close.

The next picture showed a huge bed, the head against a wall, and the wall opposite was another aquarium, this one full of coral and fish.

"Swipe," he breathed in my ear, and I shivered.

Another short video played showing a woman running down a hallway and into a bedroom. The ceiling was glass, showing water with sunlight dappling down. The walls showed more fish and coral.

"Is this real?"

"Yes," he started nibbling on my neck. "It's our hotel off the coast of Sydney. It also has access to exclusive beaches on offshore islands as well as near Sydney."

"Australia?" I managed to moan out as his hand started gliding up my leg.

"Yes. Completely underwater. Great view of the reef with lots of fish," his mouth left my neck and paused right above my lips, "and privacy," then he kissed me hard.

.

I could do this for the entire flight.

There's a bedroom in the back of this plane.

Nothing but the best for an Ootori.

But…

I pulled back and smiled as she leaned forward to follow me.

"We'll be busy," I winked, "when we get there, so if there's any studying to be done, we should do it now and get it over with."

"You're a cruel man, Akito," she smiled up at me. "I'll remember this."

Afternoon, Main Conference Room, Petto Chinmi:

"After careful consideration, we're both recommending a partnership rather than one company owning the pet snacks and the other contracting to buy them."

It took forever, but Oyama-san, Bun Bun's lawyer, and I finally hammered out a partnership agreement that split liability, costs, and profits evenly between Bun Bun's and Petto Chinmi. Technically, Bun Bun's probably could have absorbed more of the costs and liability, but the owners are friends, and it's a relatively simple agreement.

I went on to explain the structure, billing, liability, and profit sharing. By the time I was done, both Haninozuka-sama and Fujioka-sama's eyes were glazed, but Bun Bun's CEO Tanaka-sama, and Tanaki-sama were both nodding in agreement.

My boss, Fujioka-sama, turned to Tanaki-sama, and asked his opinion. "Makes sense to me. This gives both companies flexibility in product development and decisions to allow sales outside the partnership. Also allows for quicker decision making."

"I agree," Tanaka-sama nodded.

"That's great," Haninozuka-sama squealed. "Now we just need a contract."

"It's almost complete, Haninozuka-sama. I believe product development could begin in good faith while it is being finalized."

The two owners looked at each other and smiled. Then turned to Bun Bun's product development director and head baker. "What do you suggest we start with, Bando-san?"

.

Good thing Oyama-san warned me they were this close. I'd drafted a plan to be ready.

"I suggest we start small. There's no reason to dive quickly into massive development. This is new to both of us, so if we start with just a couple of products, we can learn our lessons as we go without feeling too much pain. This will also give marketing time to create the branding and advertising.

"I'd like to start product development with three different baked goods for dogs: two cookies and a cake. We'll work hard on nutritional content and taste, which are important for all the products. This will give us time to research ingredients and source them as locally as possible, as we do with all Bun Bun's products."

"Excellent," Fujioka-sama said. I could see the relief in her eyes. Her knowledge base wouldn't extend to this type of product development. "We need a name."

"Let's let our marketing teams come up with some ideas, Haru-chan."

"Good idea. I don't have a clue."

"Neither do I."

She glanced back at me, "Several shelters in Tokyo provide animals for our advertising in exchange for donations of supplies and food. I suggest contacting them for taste testing. I'm sure they'd be open to it."

"As the owner of a shelter cat, I think that's a brilliant idea, Fujioka-sama."

"Great." She turned to her assistant who'd been keeping the minutes, "Can you go over the to do's please Imai-san?"

All-in-all, a very productive meeting.

And now I need to hire someone to bake dog treats.

Late Afternoon, Every Woman Offices, Hitachiin Fashions :

"So," Tanii-san, my fabric buyer leaned back in her seat and scrubbed her hands through her short hair, "we're all agreed?"

"Yes," I nodded, though at this point I would have agreed to almost anything to end the meeting.

What the fuck have I been thinking putting off finding fabric? How the hell did the last two seasons even make it to production?

"Excellent. Then we'll be leaving Friday directly after your classes, Karou-sama. That gives us tomorrow to pack for the trip and leaves us time to set up the hotel conference room for the meetings Saturday and Sunday."

I won't be leaving the hotel the entire time. Don't make it to Hong Kong that often and was hoping for some time to shop. Not going to happen with this schedule. We're meeting with a dozen different fabric suppliers, a couple of which are really small and may be suppling us for just one garment. But they're female owned or led, and that's important to Haruhi. And the brand.

Mao cleared her throat, and I looked over at her, "Is there anything else you'd like packed, Kaoru-sama?"

"I think you know everything. My sketchboards, all the samples from my office, any random sketches you find. Basically, my office."

"You got it. I've already started. Just need a couple more trunks."

"Customs?"

"Coming in as business equipment. None of it is finished product, so no issues."

That's when Mom poked her head in, "Ready for dinner?"

"Hell, yes," I shoved my chair away from the table and stood up. Looking around at my staff, I thanked them again for all their hard work. "See you tomorrow on the plane. I'll have my phone with me all day. Text if you have questions."

Then I practically fled the room, grabbing Mom on my way out.

Dinner, Various Locations, Tokyo:

Morinozuka Estate:

"Maybe I could find something for the baby's room," Kumi mumbled as she rubbed her belly.

"I don't recommend it, Mother. Not only will the balloons long deflate prior to the birth, but depending on the materials used, the balloons themselves wouldn't be safe for the baby."

It's not my place to reprimand my nephew, so I held my tongue and merely shook my head. This morning the chef came to my office to complain about the long list of dietary restrictions Yasuchika-kun had emailed him. We decided on Italian. It was easier than navigating his fish requirements.

"The artist is giving demonstrations to children tonight, Yasuchika. I'm sure the balloons are safe."

"Oh, I hadn't thought of them deflating. I wonder how long they'll last," Haruhi-chan said while cutting into her lasagna.

"I'm not sure, but the money is going to a good cause."

"I know. I'm definitely buying one. Just hope the cats don't pop it."

.

Exclusive Restaurant (not in private room):

"This is so exciting, Mitsukuni-kun. It's a balloon artist? I've never heard of such a thing." My future son-in-law looks so handsome in his gray suit and pink shirt. He and Nomura are matching in all pink diamonds with his cuff links and her earrings and necklace.

When is he going to propose?

"He makes complicated sculptures of animals out of long balloons by twisting them. When Bun Bun's opened, we had a balloon sculpturer at each bakery to make Bun Bun's and crowns and balloon cakes. It was so much fun."

"We've been to a couple of shows at Suoh-san's gallery, but never a fund-raiser like this one." Daizo was thrilled to get the top-tier invitation hand delivered last month. Our standing within the elite of Japan as definitely gone up since Nomura started dating a Haninozuka. We could be eating in a private room, but he wanted to be seen.

"Tama-chan hasn't done a fund-raiser before. This is a joint event with On Okuri." She's on the board, another reason we received a top-tier invitation.

.

One of Shinobu's Love Hotels:

"Don't fade on me yet, Ritsu. You're younger than me for fuck's sake." I slapped his bare ass and headed for the shower.

"Yeah, but sex with you could kill a regular guy. Just be glad I'm such a badass."

"Get in here. We can get clean, get dirty, then get clean again."

"You're killing me, Bu. I need to eat something."

"You can have some of those shrimp puff things at the gallery."

.

Conveyer Belt Sushi:

"Holy shit! It's Hitachiin Yuzuha!"

Mom smiled and waived at the fans while signaling her security for some headshots she could sign. Karou, Mom, and I ended up signing about a dozen each while Dad just stepped back and waited.

Once that was all done, we were led to seats towards the front. Guess they want to show off their famous customers.

"I don't get it."

"Simple," I reached up and grabbed some salmon sushi. "You just take what you want when it goes by. When we're all done, the waitress will add it up based on plate color. You give her your drink order."

"I know you told us about it, but I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it."

"And you've been here before?"

"Yeah. With Haruhi."

"Oh, of course."

.

Ootori Conglomeration Private CEO Office:

Tamaki usually has decent catering at these events, but I'm not eating public food right now. I had my own chef deliver the dinner I'm eating here at my desk.

I texted Tachibana to confirm my company will be at the apartment when I get there after the event.

Nothing is going to mess up my night tonight.

.

Tamaki's office, Noguchi Gallery:

"This is delicious, Tamaki-kun. What a great idea."

I smiled at my Renge-chan over my desk. It was a great idea to have the caterers include dinner for two and us to have a private meal in my office before the craziness of a show.

"Maybe we should do this every time from now on."

"It would let us be here for the last-minute issues, and we'd get to relax a bit before the show."

POP!

"That's the third one since we came back here."

"He said it would happen as he gets some balloons ready for the demonstrations."

"As long as it wasn't the sculpture I was going to buy."

"Which one was that?" I asked with a smile. She's being suspiciously quiet about her purchasing plan.

"Never-you-mind. You'll see soon enough."

"I love you, Renge-chan."

"I love you too, Tamaki-kun."

Author's Note:

Despite sea sickness and a cold, I managed to put together what Dad and I think is a pretty decent chapter. You'll be getting one more before our cruise is over, so let's all hope for calm seas.

Didn't want to let everyone forget about the security review. It's probably getting close to time for another big meeting, but unless I come up with a really good reason, I won't write it, I'll just reference it. Maybe in another three weeks of their time. So, how long will it take to find the cameras at Ouran?

Not sure about any of the rest of you, but I'm sure Honey would not be good in a sick room. Too bouncy. Too loud. Too much energy. Looks like Cho, the nannies, and the private doc will have to nurse their kids.

Yes, before I decided to kill of Keiko, I was going to have Honey jump out of a cake and propose to Cho in front of everyone. Probably on one of their Wednesdays. It's just doesn't feel right anymore, so I'm going for something more romantic, but still fun. You'll see…

Lots of Petto Chinmi in this one, but now that they've made some of the big decisions, I won't have to go through them anymore. I won't be going into the brand development for the baked goods, but maybe some of the taste testing. Hope to have the stuff in stores for Christmas.

How do you think the rest of the group will react to seeing her video ads? Notice she hasn't told anyone about them yet…not even security…

Lots of teasing with Akito/Yuki in this chapter. The main event will happen in the next. Because I'm keeping this rated T – it will be a fade to black scene, but I'm really looking forward to writing something so sweet and lovely we all get cavities.

Should I let Kyoya ruin the photographer? He can't kill Tamaki, so maybe he needs an outlet.

Dad about lost it picturing Ritsu scared of going shoe shopping. Poor Kono. How many pairs do you think she made him sit through?

So, Haruhi's finally picking up on what Mori's doing. Any of you notice? We all know she won't stand for it. Ideas on where she should make him take her?

The hotel in Sydney is made up. It's a conglomeration of a bunch of different underwater hotels I found on the internet. You can find the pictures from his tablet on my Pinterest page under the "Yuki" subboard. Link in my bio.

Next Chapter:

Balloon fundraiser…Haruhi and Mori have a conversation…Karou has to buckle down…Elegant Opens to the public…Kyoya has company…Haruhi's videos debut…the yakuza throw a street fair…Akito and Yuki have their first time…And (if there's room) Honey proposes…
