Then
Rize looked at Danny and inhaled deeply. With a devious grin, she spoke, "You know, for a ghost, you smell delicious."
Danny shuddered. Lady, you are a nutcase.
Rize, unphased by Danny's comment, released her kagune and in an instant impaled Danny through his chest.
As she lifted his body into the air, Danny let out a cough, spewing blood.
Rize slowly drew her dagger back within her reach, took her finger and made a swooping motion in Danny's wound.
Danny winced.
Rize brought her finger to her lips. "It's even better than I could imagine," said Rize.
Danny now looks down and begins to slowly bring his gaze to the large wound in his chest.
The reality of what has happened to him begins to sink in.
He gasped for air, but each breath just sent a sharp pain through his body.
Danny began to devise a plan, but his train of thought was interrupted when Rize sent him soaring through the air until his body met with a concrete wall.
The sound of the impact filled the room.
Danny swore he heard something crack, although broken bones were the least of his worries right now.
Certain he now had a concussion, Danny tried to stay conscious as he looked to escape.
But his head felt so foggy. None of his thoughts felt coherent.
Danny gathered what strength he had left and became intangible, phasing out of Rizes sight.
He continued to phase until he was back on the first floor of the building.
That alone took a lot out of him, unsure he could even hold his ghost form for much longer.
At this point, walking was no longer an option.
Danny's bloody hands left a trail along the concrete as he used the wall to hold himself up as he shuffled towards the exit.
His legs began to tremble and eventually gave out, causing him to have to crawl towards freedom.
Danny didn't have his phone on him, nor had he told anyone he was patrolling. He might have had a chance of being rescued.
But help wasn't coming, Danny had no idea how he was going to get out of this mess.
Rize wasn't upset by her meal trying to escape.
In fact, she rejoiced, as she loved the thrill of the chase.
Something about the fear and adrenaline makes the food just taste better, she thought.
(She was sadistic in that way.)
Rize made her way to the first floor slowly.
Aware of Danny's powers, she wasn't shocked that he phased through the floor.
As she walked down the stairs, the taste of blood still lingered on her tongue.
Rize couldn't help herself from giggling, and she was filled with glee.
Danny winced as he heard Rize's laughter echo through the building.
She was getting closer and he was getting weaker by the second.
Now
Danny couldn't comprehend what he was witnessing.
For a moment, he got choked up trying to speak, but he managed to get the words out.
Hey! What are you doing?! Danny yelled at the man.
The man turned his head slowly towards Danny, just enough to side-eye him and reveal the blood that had stained his face.
On one hand, Danny could see it was full of flesh and oozing with blood.
Is this a ghoul? Danny thought to himself.
The man chuckled.
Can't you see I'm busy here? Why don't you run along while you still can? He turned around completely now.
This time when Danny saw his eyes, they were black with crimson irises.
Danny stood in the alley trying to transform. But nothing happened.
Frustrated, Danny darted towards the ghoul at full speed and tackled him.
Danny proceeds to pummel the guy.
Although he wasn't really able to do much damage, since he was only in his human form.
The ghoul snickered and clocked Danny with a left hook, sending him tumbling across the ground.
You? You thought that you could stop me?
The ghoul chuckled lightly as he approached Danny, who was still lying on the ground.
He picked Danny up by the collar and threw him towards the other end of the alley, his face landing in a puddle of water.
Come on, kid. I thought you wanted to play hero? The ghoul yelled.
Danny raised his head weakly.
Pushing himself up off the ground, he noticed his reflection in the water.
My eye, he thought to himself.
Danny had one normal eye, a cerulean-colored iris, and the other crimson-colored.
Danny could no longer doubt the truth.
Everything made sense, all the sudden changes he had been noticing all added up.
Danny's head was a mess right now.
But he knew this ghoul had to be dealt with, one way or another.
Danny, now blinded by his emotions, began running towards the ghoul, throwing uncoordinated strikes wildly.
Danny wasn't letting up, causing the ghoul to be on the defensive. It backed up while still dodging Danny's fist.
Suddenly, Danny lands a hook kick to the ghoul's stomach, causing the ghoul to stumble and fall into a serrated piece of metal.
The metal pierced his jugular, causing the ghoul to bleed out within seconds.
Danny didn't want this outcome; he never intended to kill the guy.
It was an accident, he thought to himself.
Shaken to his core, he went from a semi-normal guy to a murderous ghoul in a few days.
This wasn't Danny's intention, but even he knew the paramedics wouldn't be here in time to save him.
The ghoul's body went lifeless, and with the adrenaline starting to wear off, Danny got up and walked towards the body the ghoul had been dining on and crouched next to him.
Danny sat silently for a moment before shedding a tear for the nameless victim.
Danny wiped his face and realized he was also drooling over the body, like a wild animal.
