Artemis tossed and turned, half-asleep, searching for a source of warmth, fondling the mattress for something to grab onto, however the cold clung on her like a shadow. Her eyelids trembled, the gears of her mind slowly began to turn to start the day.
As soon as she woke up, her body shivered, the blankets doing nothing to warm her.
The goddess was yawning when she felt a touch of deja vu.
It sounded like a sexual moan than a yawn. A bit embarrassing for the goddess as she didn't know she could make such a sound in the first place.
Artemis blinked several times in a familiar fashion, almost like she had done this before.
The feeling of deja vu was weak, however something felt wrong, like she was missing an important detail.
Despite feeling a sense of clarity, her head felt muddled as she tried to remember something that might not have been real in the first place.
After a fruitless attempt, Artemis gave up and glanced at the spot next to her.
Empty.
A faint hollowness grew in her chest.
Memories began to piece themselves again as she thought of Perseus.
The next events that would happen rushed into her mind like a flood.
Someone had taken over his body.
Looking back, Artemis thought that she did a terrible job gathering information and was only focused on getting Perseus back.
Admittedly, it was a blunder. She was blinded by her emotions and wasn't thinking properly, an especially rare occasion for the moon goddess.
This person, that possessed Perseus, she will call B for Bit- never mind.
There wasn't a clear motive behind his possession. To her knowledge, not many people knew about his existence besides her girls, Leto, Zeus, and Ares.
Although, Ares hadn't show up for a while, and it would be unknown if he would show up randomly. But for now, he was not considered a problem.
The problem was that enemy was completely unknown with an ulterior motive.
The fact that Perseus was targeted in her territory was concerning.
It wasn't hard to guess that there was some sort of relationship between the two, especially because it was Artemis. If someone didn't know the specifics then just seeing a male in an all-girl group would raise some questions.
However, Artemis noticed a few strange points in his behavior when she faced him.
The first thing that the goddess thought of was that B was one of the people who was involved in that a few years ago.
However, B's actions did not seem consistent with their motives to kill her. They seemed more carefree rather than malicious if that made sense.
If he was with those people, he would've attacked her the moment that she called his little act. With Perseus' body, they would probably force her to use her divinity. Even Artemis had to admit, his strength was extraordinary, much stronger than her mortal shell.
Even with divinity involved, it rather would be hard to tell the outcome.
Assuming that he knew how to pilot Percy's body and abilities to the maximum level of efficiency.
Adding on to their objective, that group would've wanted to finish her as quickly as possible rather than let her gather her power.
Another thing was that B didn't seem to know who she was.
Also, he called her Mistress, which wasn't a strange thing in it of itself, but the dynamic of her relationship with Perseus was different than that.
If this event happened before yesterday, then Artemis would not be as uncertain as now.
Because, yesterday was the day that she had "confessed" and changed their relationship.
The person that took over Perseus' body did not seem to know that fact.
Because B said Mistress, He didn't know of the events of the day prior, which led her to question how much did B actually know.
From the previous round, he tried to hide the fact that he didn't know what their exact relationship was. By the tone of his voice, he said it with enough confidence that any normal person wouldn't be able to tell that they were guessing.
Artemis was not a normal person and could understand other people's thought process through their mannerisms, which was one of the reason why she trusted Perseus rather easily.
It was a power that manifested itself while she observed the darkest, most disgusting human beings.
B probably did not take this into account while speaking to her, which had a mix of respect and comfort.
B, from what she understood, had a very rudimentary understanding of their relationship.
The only point in time where he could be unsure of their relationship was when Perseus was summoned.
It seemed that he only had a fragments Perseus' memories rather than the range of memories a normal person would have. That was the only explanation of B's inconsistent behavior.
B was comfortable because he knew that Artemis treasured him to a certain extent. However, he had to maintain a certain distance because he also knew that she did not like men.
Most likely, he had memories of a very formal Percy and deliberately chose to ignore them, thinking that their relationship was slightly more closer than that.
Strangely, B's demeanor switched like he was some sort of big shot looking at some parlor tricks when she was emitting divine pressure in anger.
He was not afraid to her threats, perhaps his main body was more powerful than her. That or he was plain ignorant because it did not look like he knew who she was.
Her heart felt heavy.
Why is this happening to her?
Why is this happening to Perseus?
She had just given her heart to a man in the first time in her life, and now this is happening.
Artemis bit her lip in frustration.
Any moment now he would enter the room.
Her face became icy like how she "normally" was.
As if on cue, a shuffle from the entrance signified someone entering the tent.
Her eyes narrowed at the sight of him, expecting the same course of events to play out.
He walked in, holding the same breakfast tray from before.
"Oh. Mistress, you're awake!" His face seemed pleasantly surprised to see her up. "I got breakfast."
It wasn't him. Artemis didn't see it in the previous round, but his eyes lacked the respect and care that Perseus had.
Even though it was the same body, the feeling that she got was much different.
How did she fall for his act in the first place?
It was now awfully clear to her that this was someone different.
Of course, Artemis already knew the answer to that question, even though she didn't want to admit it.
It was because of love.
Love. Huh.
What a happy and miserable feeling.
It hadn't even been a day yet she already missed him.
To look into his caring eyes and kiss him.
Every so often, her thoughts would stray away from the situation in front of her and into a dreamland, where it was only the two of them.
Artemis bit her tongue, drawing blood.
Think about such lovey-dovey things later.
Focus on this for now.
Artemis continued to be vigilant towards him since she needed to know how much B knew.
He didn't seemed surprised at her reaction and treated it as if it was the normal reaction.
Wait.
B just called her Mistress.
This meant that B was unaware of the previous round.
Did she go back in time?
What happened?
Did infusing her divinity into Perseus cause time to rewind?
B was about to set the tray in front of her, but Artemis stopped him, pointing at the table.
For now, he seemed compliant, however this did not sway Artemis in the slightest.
The second he made the slightest move towards her, Artemis was going to perform the ritual again.
This time would be much easier since she knew the exact amount of divinity to use.
Although, the goddess was curious if the day was going to reset again if she did so.
B himself said that he temporarily replaced his consciousness, which meant that he was on a time limit.
But what was he gaining in telling her that piece of information.
Feeling a gaze on her, Artemis looked up. B was staring at her absentmindedly, lost in his own little world. Even though it was in Percy's body, it still felt disgusting, like worms crawling all over her.
Perseus would never look at her with such eyes.
It was completely revolting and made her want to turn him into a jackalope.
If it wasn't Percy's body, she wouldn't done it eons ago.
Coldly glaring at him, she said, "Avert your eyes."
He remained rooted in place like a child looking at a toy through a display case.
The goddess' hand twitched as she debated whether or not to pull the trigger.
As Artemis was weighing the pros and cons of doing the ritual, Percy's body became rigid as if someone dumped a bucket of ice water over him, his pupils widening in surprise. "You bastard! How dare you! You will never get -- of me! I will -- --"
The crescent glowed a faint red before becoming a blinding white, enveloping the entire room in its luminous rays, even causing Artemis to cover her eyes.
When the light died down, Perseus' body was still there, except the feeling she got from him was different.
His face wore a slight frown with one of his eyes closed like there was something annoying that particular eye.
He blinked a few times to adjust his vision before he took a look at his surroundings.
His gaze instantly locked onto her silver orbs, which were menacingly looking at him.
Freezing for a second, his mouth opened, saying the first words that came to his mind, "Uhh. Should I leave?"
T-T
Artemis had her arms crossed with a minuscule frown on her face, staring intensely into Percy's eyes.
Avoiding her eyes, Percy looked extremely apologetic and ashamed that he was clueless to let such a thing to happen, at least that's what Artemis read from his eyes.
She explained everything that happened to Percy, omitting the part where she traveled back in time, if it was that to begin with, Artemis still did not know. She planned to see Athena about it since her sister would probably know.
Looking at him, Artemis clicked her tongue. She really couldn't stay mad at Perseus. There was something about him that melted her heart.
He was back to normal.
Well.
Mostly.
There was just something that bugged her slightly.
His eyes.
They had a light feeling to them , even though his beautiful green eyes looked mesmerizing as per usual. She could just look at them all day, but something inside of her whispered its concern.
Artemis tried to search for something, but there wasn't anything to take note of.
Noticing the strangeness, Percy asked in his usual worried tone, "Is there something wrong?"
"No, just. Do you feel anything different? There might be some side effects of the possession."
Percy felt his face, caressing his cheeks, then touching his lips. "I do. But, I'm not sure if I should say."
"Tell me," Artemis insisted, genuinely concerned about his well-being.
"I have this urge to kiss you. It was there before, but for some reason the feeling has grown significantly to the point where-"
After his first sentence, the rest of his words began harder to hear as her ears began to heat up. "I am being serious."
Percy obliviously said, "I am being serious though?"
Her desire, which was suppressed until now, burst out like a dam. Grabbing his collar, Artemis aggressively pulled his face towards her, smashing their lips together.
And just as quickly, Artemis pushed him away, licking her lips as if she just ate something tasty. "Alright, where were we?"
Percy stumbled to get words out of his mouth, stun to the point where Artemis could see smoke come out of his ears since his brain seemed to stop working.
Artemis thought that this might be a problem.
The feeling from before didn't go away though. Perhaps, she should take him to see Apollo, just to be sure.
Although Artemis knew that Apollo would not be happy to see her bring in a man and bombard her with annoying questions, it was better safe then sorry.
But before that, she should consult with Leto to get her opinion.
And bring this idiot with her, the goddess looked at her awe-struck guardian.
It was a new emotion that she had never seen from him before.
