Mr. Bane took the place of one of the hall monitors that week. He was standing outside his office when he noticed a boy standing by himself, holding his side. Who also had a busted lip and black eye. The boy happened to look up right into Mr. Bane's face. When the boy noticed Mr. Bane looking at him, he hurried to stand straight, but Mr. Bane could see the pain in his eyes. Mr. Bane smiled and shook his head, telling the boy that he didn't have to do that for him. Then Mr. Bane turned away from him and started talking to other students. When Mr. Bane looked back, the boy was gone. That was the first time they saw each other.

Weeks later, Mr. Bane heard a commotion outside his office in the hall, so he went out to check on it. When he got out, another boy had the boy from weeks ago pinned to the lockers, hitting him.

"Hey," Mr. Bane yelled.

The boy who had the other boy pinned ran off. Mr. Bane ran over to the boy, who was leaning over, holding himself, and trying to get air back into his body.

"Hey, come with me. I can help you," Mr. Bane said.

The boy shook his head.

"Please, let me help."

The boy looked up at Mr. Bane and saw in his eyes that he wanted to help him for real. So he nodded and went with Mr. Bane. Mr. Bane took him into his office and locked the door. The boy looked at him, then at the door.

"I just did that so no one would come in while your shirt is off."

The boy was still looking at Mr. Bane. For some reason, he couldn't take his eyes off him. Mr. Bane got his medical supplies and walked back to the boy.

"Lift your shirt, please."

The boy did as he was asked when Mr. Bane started working on him. Every touch was soft. The boy felt like he was in heaven. He was watching everything Mr. Bane was doing. While working on him, Mr. Bane would bite his lip when his hands touched the boy's body. Mr. Bane looked up at the boy, and the boy licked his lips. They both looked at each other for a moment till Mr. Bane's inner voice told him to move back now, and he did. Mr. Bane started packing his medical supplies back up. He put them away. He went to turn to let the boy out of his office. But the boy was right there and pushed Mr. Bane against the door.

"What are you doing?"

"I'm not sure."

"We can't do this. Please back up."

The boy looked into Mr. Bane's eyes. They were saying something completely different. The boy smiled.

"I can wait."

Mr. Bane looked at him, "What's your name?"

"Alec Lightwood. And you are?"

"Mr. Bane, your Guidance Counselor and nothing more, Mr. Lightwood."

"I can wait," Alec said, then left Mr. Bane with his mouth open.
