Chapter 3:

Who are you?

'AaaaaaaaaaaaH'

Kai shot up, heart pounding in his chest, as Tyson's piercing scream shattered the silence of the night. Without a moment's hesitation, the Phoenix blader bolted towards the door of his room, his senses on high alert. Racing down the corridor, he found his team members already stirred into action, their faces etched with concern.

"Kai, did you hear Tyson scream?" Ray's voice cut through the tension, his feline-like features creased with worry.

"Isn't he sleeping? It must be a nightmare, Ray," Max said groggily, yawning for the third time since they'd been woken up.

Kenny smacked Max lightly on the arm, while Kai leaned against the wall, his expression hardening. "If this is one of his games, I swear I'll beat the crap out of him."

Ray sighed, clearly annoyed at the interruption to his sleep. "Enough arguing. Kenny, go check Tyson's room. I'll take the storage room."

Kai watched as Ray and Kenny disappeared down the hallway, while Max, ever the opportunist, decided to nap on the floor to save time. Just as Kai was about to head back to his room, Kenny came running back, breathless and wide-eyed.

"Ray, Max, Kai, Tyson isn't in his room. I checked the toilet and balcony too," he panted.

Immediately, all four of them rushed downstairs. Kai ran a hand through his hair, thinking about how unusual it was for Tyson to wake up at such an odd hour. Even during an earthquake, Tyson wouldn't budge. His gut told him something was definitely wrong.

They split up to search for the missing Bladebreaker. Ray headed to the front yard of the Dojo, Kenny to the kitchen, and Max to the remaining rooms on the ground floor. Meanwhile, Kai made his way towards the room where the Dragoon sword was kept.

The slate-haired blader opened the door to find the room empty and pitch dark, except for the great Dragoon sword bathed in moonlight at the center. The scene so looked magical that Kai wanted to run his hand over the sword. He walked inside, eyes fixed on the majestic sight before him. Suddenly, he tripped over something and lost his balance.

"Ow!"

Kai froze at the sound of a soft voice.

"Tyson?"

Before he could get up, his team rushed into the room.

"Kai?" Ray called out, but before Kai could respond, the blonde-haired boy switched on the lights.

A chill ran through Kai's body as he took in the sight before him. There was no Tyson, only a small boy wearing a yellow t-shirt far too big for him. The boy rubbed his eyelids with tiny hands, blinking rapidly before looking up at Kai with big chocolate-brown eyes. The navy-haired boy stared at Kai for a few seconds before breaking into a warm smile.

Those beautiful brown eyes met crimson orbs.

"Kai-chan?" The boy smiled, his soft voice filled with warmth and tenderness. He walked towards Kai and hugged his leg tightly, repeating, "Kai-chan."

"WHAAAT? DID TYSON HAVE A KID? CAN SOMEONE TELL ME, DID H-E-EEE?" Max yelled, staring at the mini mirror image of Tyson.

The boy hugged Kai's leg even more tightly, frightened by the commotion. Feeling the odd sensation of a child—who resembled Tyson and was calling him "Kai-chan"—hugging his leg, Kai felt like lightning was crackling through his veins. Time seemed to slow down, and he fell back as his world crumbled into darkness.
