Hello peeps! Thank you for the support on the last few uploads! I really appreciate all the reviews!
Here is the latest oneshot, it's a what if type thing. This takes place in the episode FrighteningGale right about when the stage hand finds the masks that go with the Ladybug and Cat Noir costumes for the music video. When I watched the episode I thought to myself, what would happen if they actually put on the masks?
Whelp he was screwed. Completely, utterly, irrevocably, and all the lys screwed. There is no doubt about it. Sure Plagg said people were blind, sure he overheard Alya say they didn't look a thing like the real Cat Noir and Ladybug after he joined hands with Marinette. Sure he lost the mask, but the costume was too good. Every bit of it.
As Adrien looked down at the now found mask, all he could think about was how screwed he was, and how pissed off Ladybug was going to be.
Ugh the shoot was going so well too. He almost had to partner with Chloe for Clara Nightingale's music video but thankfully Marinette stood up to join him. He never felt more relieved in his life. There was also this strange giddiness that rose up in his chest.
The thought of her looking very cute in the ladybug costume also caught him by surprise. He ignored that thought until Clara had them join hands. That certainly sent tingles up his arm.
But the weird feeling in his stomach evaporated the second the stage hand had announced that he found the masks.
Now everyone was going to find out that Adrien Agreste was Cat Noir. Clara, all his friends, the cute girl in front of him, Natialie- oh no, his father! As soon as he puts on the mask his father will know right away and demand he give up his ring.
Ladybug is going to kill him. Well, not if his father gets to him first.
He glanced up and saw Marinette slowly bringing her mask up. He gulped, and slowly slipped his mask on.
A few people let out gasps, Clara squealed in delight, and he heard Marinette's breathing hitch. Adrien stopped breathing all together.
"Wow." He heard Alya say. "If I didn't know any better I'd say you two were the real Ladybug and Cat Noir."
"Right!" Rose squealed, and the rest of the girls shouted their own agreements, and disagreements.
"There's no way Miss Clumsy Queen could be Ladybug!"
"Or the uber polite Adrien Agreste could be the flirty and pun loving Cat Noir."
A hand on his shoulder brought his attention back from the floor. Clara was positively beaming at the pair. "Oh this is amazing, fantastic! You two fit the masks so well, it's got me ecstatic!"
A quick glance around the room told him that he avoided suspicion. Alya smirked as she continued to record them, and the girls all looked excited in their own right.
Adrien finally let out the breath he was holding, and put a hand on his chest to slow his racing heart. No one knew. No one looked suspicious or looked like he recognized him.
He grinned, Plagg was right. People were blind.
A small gasp came from the girl in front of him. He turned to look at her, and let out a gasp as well.
Marinette stared at him, her eyes wide, a hand over her mouth. Surprise colored her expression, and her cheeks slowly grew rosy. Her blue hair in twin pigtails as always, but with ribbons tied, and a professionally done mask donned her features, covering just the right amount of skin.
Adrien's heart stopped.
She was beautiful. A word that crossed his mind before when thinking of Marinette, but he always buried it down under just a friend or she's just a fan who likes fashion so stop thinking like that she won't feel the same.
Here she was, looking absolutely stunning and adorable and amazing in Ladybug's costume, looking perfect in every way. Well, there was no doubt about it.
Marinette is Ladybug.
And it looked like she was coming to the same conclusion about him if the realization in her eyes said anything.
"Your-" Her voice came out muffled. "You."
Adrien waved awkwardly, using that motion to rub the back of his neck.
"Hey m'l-" He caught himself, remembering at the last second that they were in fact, not alone. "Hey Marinette." He blushed and a few awws came from the girls.
She uncovered her mouth and took a breath. "Hey-"
"I'm sorry." Mayor Bourgeois stomped in with a smug Chloe not far behind. "My administrative staff just realized you never submitted permit A38 as stipulated in the circular B65, that one can only get at counter C, third floor of City Hall, which is, alas, closed for renovations until August. Which means you don't have a permit for the shoot, anywhere in France, including Paris."
The mayor dumped a stack of papers in Clara's arms without so much as an apology.
"I… I don't understand." Clara quivered.
"It means no more dancing, no more singing today," Chloe snatched her microphone. "The Nightingale can spread her wings and fly away." She snarked as she threw the microphone away.
Adrien's jaw dropped at the motion.
"Oh no!" Clara shouted and ran after it.
Chloe cocked her hip and smirked. "I made a rhyme. How talented am I?"
"No." Clara choked out, holding back tears. "The video needs to be shot here, in Paris, the capital of love, the city of Ladybug and Cat Noir."
Adrien shared a concerned look with Marinette, her expression a mixture of sympathy and anger, a mirror of his own feelings. He slipped off his mask as he looked back toward the heartbreaking and cruel scene before him.
"This ruins all my plans." Clara sobbed. "I'm so sorry, my beloved fans!" She ran into her trailer.
The crowd watched on all with looks of sadness, pity, and some anger toward the mayor and his daughter. Adrien opened his mouth to rebuke his childhood friend, but stopped as a hand rested on his shoulder.
He turned and Marinette looked at him with resolve. A look that Ladybug gave right before they dove into battle. Oh how could he have missed his lady all this time! She sat right in front of him and saw her every day! Both in and out of the mask apparently.
The hand on his shoulder tightened and Adrien refocused on the present. She gestured toward her mask, and took it off. We'll talk about this later.
He nodded in understanding and then gave her a smile, and mouthed, I found you. She smiled, grabbed his hand and squeezed it. Marinette tugged him away and the pair found a secluded spot.
Once hidden Adrien could not help but pull her into a bone crushing hug. She let out a giggle.
"I found you." He breathed, smiling wide, not bothering to hide the joy he was feeling.
"Later." Her voice muffled against his chest.
He squeezed a bit tighter.
Marinette let out a sigh, and pulled back to look up at him, still in each other's arms. "I can't believe you are my silly pun loving partner." Her grin was teasing, but genuine.
He returned the grin. "I can't believe two left feet Marinette is the graceful Ladybug."
Marinette's smile turned strained. "Are you disappointed it's me?" She stepped out of his grasp.
Adrien caught her hand, pressing a kiss to her knuckles. "Of course not m'lady, I honestly should've realized it sooner."
Her smile became real, and he loved the ting of pink that spread across her cheeks. "Really?"
"Yeah! Both sides of you are incredible. You're smart, beautiful." Her cheeks went from pink to red. "You're not afraid to stand up for others even if you're the only one, and you're the kindest and most creative person I know."
She tucked her hair behind her ear and looked up at him through her lashes. Cute!
"Thanks kitty."
"I only speak the truth m'lady."
Screams broke the atmosphere, and a determined look replaced the blush colored Marinette. It was a look she gave whenever some injustice was happening at school, and it was the look villains dread and Adrien loved.
"Are you ready?" Adrien asked, taking her hands in his.
She looked hesitant, but nodded.
Adrien smiled. "I've always wanted to do this."
"Me too." Marinette returned the smile.
"Claws out."
"Spots on."
Thank you for reading! Let me know what you think of it, both the writing itself, and my use of Marinette and Adrien, and their reactions to a reveal!
This was a fun one to write. I know there's the whole quantum masking thing, so in this one it simply doesn't exist. Though even without it I doubt these two ding dongs would recognize each other and the rest of the people would be, as Plagg said, blind! Either way, fun little oneshot. The next upload will be a two part short story, so stay tuned!
