Prologue:
Once, dragons and men coexisted.
They shared a peace forged in wisdom, a peace that lasted many generations.
It was a bright, sunny day. There wasn't a cloud in the sky as he approached the settlement.
"Well met, good human," said a dwarf. "Have you come to join in our hunt?"
"What are you dwarves hunting in this region?" asked the human.
"We're hunting Black Drakes," said the dwarf. "It's said that drake's blood can provide powerful enchantments. With your aid, the monster won't stand a chance."
All that was lost when mankind disrupted this balance in a sudden onslaught.
"I am Sapphiron," said the dragon. "Ancient servant of Malygos. Who dares disturb my lair?"
"My sincerest apologies for the interruption, great wyrm," said the human. "We've come to murder you and steal whatever treasures you've stored up over the centuries."
Man fought a dragon in a savage war
that shook the foundations of their world.
This war was called The Scouring.
"THIS KINGDOM SHALL FALL! AND FROM THE ASHES SHALL ARISE A NEW ORDER THAT SHALL SHAPE THE VERY FOUNDATIONS OF THE WORLD!"
Defeated and humbled,
dragons vanished from the realm.
"Behold, the Frostwyrm," said a lich. "These undead dragons are the Lich King's favorite pets."
In time, man rebuilt and spread his
dominion across the land and
onto the islands beyond.
"Northrend belongs to the Scourge, elf," said Arthas. "You made a terrible mistake by coming here."
A millennium has passed
since those dark days ended.
"As of today, the scourge will meet its end!" said an elf. "Can you hear me out there, Arthas! It's end!"
"Illidan has mocked the scourge long enough," said the human. "It's time to put the fear of death back in him."
"I MIGHT ACTUALLY HAVE TO VISIT THE CAVERNS OF TIME!" roared Medivh. "BECAUSE I AM ABOUT TO CREATE AN ENTIRE EXPANSION DEDICATED TO KILLING YOU, ARTHAS!"
