Chapter 1 - Aliens of London:
"How many channels do you get?" Mickey spoke up behind the Doctor, as the Time Lord began scrolling through channels detailing the day's Alien activity.
"All the basic packages." He answered offhandedly.
"You get sports channels?" Mickey looked at the Doctor, eyes wide.
"Yes, I get the football." The Doctor answered, before frowning, "Hold on, I know that lot." He spoke, looking at the screen.
"It is looking likely that the Government's bringing in alien specialists", a female reporter spoke, as military personnel could walking past the cameras - strangely accompanied by a non-military figure dressed in a weathered brown waistcoat covered by a long black duster, "those people who have devoted their lives to studying outer space."
"UNIT." The Doctor said with a small cheer, pointing at the screen as his eyes wandered over each person on screen, "United Nations Intelligence Taskforce." The Doctor continued, "Good people." He finished as his eyes lingered slightly on the one non-military figure.
"How do you know them?" Rose frowned at the Doctor, snapping him out of it.
"'Cos he's worked for them." Mickey spoke up confidently, "Oh yeah, don't think I sat on my backside for twelve months, Doctor. I read up on you. You look deep enough on the Internet or in the history books, and there's his name, followed by a list of the dead." He finished, glaring at the Doctor.
"That's nice. Good boy, Ricky." The Doctor sarcastically praised, rolling his eyes.
"If you know them, why don't you go and help?" Rose spoke up, trying to bring them back on track.
"They wouldn't recognise me.", the Doctor answered, moving away from the screen, "I've changed a lot since the old days." he continued as he moved around the TARDIS console, flicking levers and pushing buttons. "Besides, the world's on a knife-edge. There's aliens out there and fake aliens,We want to keep this alien out of the mix." He looked over to the Teacher, "I'm going undercover. And er, we'd better keep the Tardis out of sight." he said as he finished inputting commands across the console, "Ricky, you've got a car. You can do some driving." He patted the boy on the back and began walking towards the door.
"Where to?" Mickey asked, running to catch up.
"The roads are clearing." The Doctor replied, "Time to go and have a look at that spaceship."
~O~
"If you could all just please wait patiently in here", a young man spoke as he guided the group of UNIT soldiers and advisors into a reception area in Downing Street, "I'll be back shortly to hand out ID badges while the other experts arrive." He finished as he moved past the crowd and into another corridor, out of sight.
The sole non-military figure, a muscular middle-aged black man dressed in a dark purple shirt and tie, weathered brown waistcoat and long black duster with equally dark trousers and brown dress shoes, placed himself towards the back of the room - looking out over the crowd as some of the soldiers shot him slightly odd looks as to why he had accompanied them to begin with.
"Okay", the young man started as he walked back into the room, a number of ID cards held in his hand, "If you would please come and collect your badge, you can then enter the conference room once everyone has arrived." he added as he pointed towards an exit at the back of the room.
The lone figure pushed himself off the wall he was leaning against and began walking towards the young man, as the queue for ID badges began to dwindle, "Name?" the young man asked as the figure approached.
"The Teacher", he stated, his voice low and slightly husky - with a noticeable East London accent to it.
"Okay", the young man dragged out as he looked at the renaming ID badges - "Here you are," he handed him the badge, "is that some sort of code-name? Seems more of a profession than a name." The young man said with a slightly wry smile.
"All of the above", The Teacher said with a small smirk, as he put the ID badge on, "and your name was?"
"Indra, sir, Indra Ganesh"
"Thank you Indra", The Teacher said, patting him on the shoulder, "and was that room correct?" he said pointing towards the room indicated earlier.
"Um, Yes it is sir, but you need to-" Indra began before being cut off.
"Thanks again Indra." The Teacher spoke over him as he patted his shoulder again before walking alone into the room, choosing a seat close to the door and began reading the classified material that was placed on the chair as he sat and waited for the others to join him.
~O~
The Doctor and Rose were escorted into the same waiting area the Teacher had recently vacated.
"Ladies and gentlemen, can we convene?" Indra Ganesh spoke as he re-entered the waiting room, "Quick as we can, please. It's this way on the right, and can I remind you that your ID cards are to be worn at all times." He spoke before handing an ID card to the Doctor. "Here's your ID card." He looked towards Rose, before frowning, "I'm sorry, your companion doesn't have clearance."
"I don't go anywhere without her", The Doctor protested.
"You're code nine not her, I'm sorry, Doctor." Indra spoke, "It is the Doctor isn't it? - Funny all these code-names, they all sound more like jobs than names to me" he continued, speaking more quietly to himself as he spoke, not noticing the confused look on the Doctors face before he looked back up towards him, "She'll have to stay outside." he nodded towards Rose.
"She's staying with me." The Doctor stated to the man, his mind still lingering on the man's previous statement of 'code-names'.
"Look, even I don't have clearance to go in there." The man reasoned with the Doctor "I can't let her in and that's a fact."
"It's alright. You go." Rose spoke up.
"Excuse me. Are you the Doctor?" An older woman spoke up from next to them.
"You sure?" The Doctor asked Rose, not hearing the older woman.
"Not now." The young man cut back in, now facing the older woman "We're busy. Can't you go home?"
"I just need a word in private." She spoke again before being drowned out.
"Don't get in any trouble." The Doctor said with a look back at Rose, as he walked into the conference room.
As he entered the conference room, The Doctor looked around quickly, people were taking their seats and beginning to look at the material provided to them - all except for one man, sat in a chair close to the door he was already deep into the material, his face contorted into a deep frown as he flicked through the booklet. The Doctor saw that the seat next to the man was open and took the opportunity to sit down quickly and begin reading - crossing his legs as he did so.
"Well, something clearly isn't right here', The Teacher muttered to himself darkly.
The Doctor glanced up rom where he was quickly reading through the material - a small look of surprise on his face, "I agree", he said, surprise clear in his voice, he motioned to the booklet he had been reading, "there's clearly something that doesn't add-"'. However, he was cut off before he could finish by one of the two large men at the front of the room.
"Now, ladies and gentlemen," One of the men, General Asquith began, "if I could have your attention, please. As you can see from the summaries in front of you, the ship had one porcine occupant-"
But he was cut off before he could continue - not by the Doctor, but by the man sat next to him, who jumped up and began walking to the centre of the room.
"Now that's all well and good, but the really fascinating bit happened three days ago," The Teacher cut in, "This part just here, filed away under Any Other Business." He continued as he held up his booklet, pointing out the specific section for the other experts to see, "The North Sea. A satellite detected a signal, a little blip of radiation, at one hundred fathoms, like there's something down there. This even came across my desk, and just as we were about to investigate what happened?" He asked the room sarcastically, "All of this! Spaceships, pigs, massive diversion, but from what?" The Teacher asked the room, glancing around before pointing to the Doctor.
"If aliens fake an alien crash and an alien pilot, what do they get? Us. They get us. It's not a diversion, it's a trap." The Doctor answered, snapping out of his surprise not only at being asked, but at the mystery figure being the one to point all of this out, showing intelligence the Doctor didn't know UNIT had without him.
"This is all about us. Alien experts." The Teacher picked back up, "the only people with knowledge how to fight them gathered together in one room-" before being cut off by a fart coming from the other large man at the front of the room.
"Would you mind doing that after I've finished saving the world?" The Teacher asked, frowning.
"Would you rather silent but deadly?" The man grinned, before General Asquith moved to remove his hat, moving his hand to the side of his forehead and began to unzip, causing a bright blue light and energy to release.
The Doctor slowly stood as the blue light filled the room, as he slowly paced forward - eyes locked on the General, still unzipping, in front of him, The Teacher reached his arm out to keep the Doctor behind him, glaring at the scene happening at the front of the room.
"We are the Slitheen." The large green alien, with pure black eyes, now stood in place of the General; the skin suit had been fully removed.
"Thank you all for wearing your ID cards." The Slitheen-in-hiding laughed, "They'll help to identify the bodies." He finished before holding up a remote activation switch and turning it on, causing the experts along with the Doctor and the Teacher to be electrocuted.
The room filled back up with light as the experts screamed in pain, while the Doctor and Teacher were brought to their knees in pain, the Teacher reached up and ripped the ID card from the lanyard it was being held on - keeping it in his grip as he moved forward towards the other aliens.
"Deadly to humans, perhaps." The Teacher gritted out, forcing the sparking ID card into the machine on the alien's neck, the Slitheen crying out in pain as the electricity coursed through not only its body, but through that of the other Slitheen as well.
The Teacher turned towards The Doctor, who himself had just ripped his ID card off, dropping it quickly on the ground as it continued to spark. The Teacher reached out and grabbed the Doctor's hand, saying one word to him as he began to drag him out of the room.
"Run!"
Authors Note:
So I'm Back!
Its been a very long time and for that I deeply apologise but a lot has happened in my life - both good and bad since then.
I'm not gonna go into it all but I feel like i'm in a place where I can begin to write again, but I won't set a schedule just yet, at the moment there will just be a chapter whenever I can get one ready.
If anyone is reading who remembers back when I used to write originally, then many parts of this story should ring a bell - The Teacher, the episode and the actor used as their face-claim, so yes this will be a complete rewrite (and hopefully continuation) of that original story.
Don't worry if you have previously read that story though, this one (as this prologue/first chapter shows) will be quite different.
To those who may be interested in that first story, you really aren't missing out - I deleted it about a year ago after re-reading it and really not liking it, so I decided I wanted to revisit the character and its finally here!
When it comes to my other stories, I do hope to do something with them eventually (especially Kel, the ideas I have for that story I think are so cool), but I can't promise when that will happen, for now this story is going to be my writing priority.
I have more definite plans this time around, so hopefully that should keep me from deviating like I did last time, and deciding on plot points last minute - I've done an entire university degree since last time so I hope i'e grown enough to do it justice this time!
I hope you all like this new version of the Teacher, and I hope to get the next (proper) chapter out to you all soon!
