The Future
"Harry…" Cho turned to Harry one night, silent tears running down her cheeks, holding her phone up. "Look at this."
"What is it, honey?" Harry mumbled, half awake. "Huh? I– Oh." As he read, his frown deepened. "Shit." He ran a hand through his hair, stressed. "That's horrible," he breathed.
Cho said nothing and just nodded. There was silence until she finally spoke. "I don't want to live like this. Look at us, Harry. We're still students. Still young. But we're afraid of dying each day. Scared of V– Voldemort. Why can't we enjoy this? Enjoy us?"
"I know, Cho, I–"
"But you don't, though," she cut him off bitterly. "Because we've never had the standard. Just an hour, Harry. That's all I want. One hour of true happiness."
Harry closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "Okay."
"Okay?" Cho repeated, furrowing her brows. "What the hell does that mean?"
Opening his eyes with a slight smile, he took Cho's hand. "If you want that, I want it too. No Voldemort, no worries, nothing but love and happiness."
"How?" Cho whispered, captivated by Harry's words.
With his spare hand, Harry produced a Time-Turner from the bedside table. "With this. Don't ask how I got it. Hermione, who is just a friend," he added, seeing the look on Cho's face, "was able to persuade McGonagall into it."
Cho's eyes widened, realising what Harry was saying. "We're… We're going to the future? Away from all this mess? Just us?"
Happy tears pricked Harry's eyes. "We're going to the future," he whispered gently, nodding. A tear rolled down his cheek. "I love you so much, Cho."
"I love you too, Harry. An hour of this is everything to me." She picked up the Time-Turner from between them and hung it around Harry's neck. Cho looked up at Harry, grinning, and quickly kissed his cheek. "Let's do this."
The clock's fast ticking and the way that Harry pressed her up against his chest made her heart flutter, propelling them years into the future, until it was 2034, and they were lying in a similar bed to ten years prior. "You'd think that ten years into the future would make a difference," Cho joked, pulling herself and Harry out of bed, "but this room looks the exact same as the one from the Room of Requirement. I wonder where we are…"
"We should go downstairs. Let's explore!" Harry offered, cautiously opening the door of the bedroom to reveal a staircase surrounded by pictures and paintings of lucious fields.
The first room that they saw downstairs was the kitchen, which had deep blue cabinets and a gorgeous marble island in the middle of the kitchen, atop of which was a small basket filled with pastries and fruit. Cho picked up a handwritten note from the countertop and read it slowly. "'Welcome to the Time Traveller's Lovebird Lodge. We hope you enjoy the surroundings during your one hour of bliss. Feel free to take the picnic basket by the back door with you on your mini-adventure. Love, Molly and Fred.' Oh, Harry, this is so sweet! A romantic lodge?! I think I'm in love!"
Harry smiled and picked up the basket from the island. "I guess we should make use of this. I'll grab the picnic basket too. I am so happy that you suggested this, Cho."
"Me too, Harry, me too."
Cho sighed dreamily as they walked through fields of poppies and lavender. She didn't want to leave this moment in time. All she wanted to do was stay in the future forever, carefree and in love with the surroundings (and Harry!).
"Let's stop here," Harry suggested, hesitantly laying out a tartan picnic blanket and opening the picnic basket. Once they'd both sat down, he rooted around the basket. "I wonder what's in here," he muttered. One by one, he pulled out cheeses, jams, rolls, and a carton of pineapple juice. "Yes! Pineapple is the best juice ever!" Harry exclaimed. "Finally, someone understands!"
Cho rolled her eyes playfully. "Why am I in love with you?"
"Because I'm handsome, funny, and the best person in the whole wide world?"
Laughing, Cho replied, "Something like that, sure."
As he put a slice of brie on a cracker, Harry gasped. "Don't say that! You'll hurt my ego!"
Cho just smiled in response as she helped herself to the collection of fruit. The sun gazed down lazily at them, and birds tweeted sweet melodies from the pear tree opposite them. Forget-me-nots and daisies waved at the couple, and butterflies twirled around, following the breeze. The sapphire sky above them hosted white, fluffy clouds of all shapes and sizes. "Woah, Harry, look! Doesn't that one look like a dolphin?" Cho pointed out, watching as clouds floated past.
"Oh, it does," he nodded, reaching for yet another croissant. "And that looks like a dog!"
"The grim!" Cho joked, imitating Professor Trelawney. "I don't miss that crazy, old bat at all."
Harry tilted his head slightly, staring at the cloud. "Is that… Sirius? No way. It looks like Padfoot, Sirius' animagus," he explained to a rather confused Cho.
Cho hummed in agreement, and, growing tired, she closed her eyes. It had been a long hour. A long joyous hour, there was no doubt about that. Just lying here with Harry, in the most beautiful place that she'd ever visited, was all that she needed. And every bad thought, every moment of hatred that she'd ever experienced, had been washed away. Cho felt her cares and anxieties slip away from her, exhaling them through a gentle snore. All she really needed was Harry. As long as Harry was there, she'd be happy. The feel of her hand in his was enough for her. And one hour. Just one hour of bliss was all that she had needed. All she needed to survive was this love that she felt right now.
As she drifted off to sleep, Cho smiled. She couldn't wait to see what her future with Harry would hold.
