Thirty minutes later, at the top of the tallest water tower in the city, which by the way is also on top of the tallest NORMAL tower in the city…
-Violet wakes up from a recorder-induced trance!
"Lalalalalala, such a pretty song from that recorder…huh? Wait, where am I? Why don't I remember anything from the last thirty minutes, where…AHHHH!"
At the Botsford residence…
"Alright Bob, let's play again, best of three this time…"
"-Wordgirl, please, HELP-!"
"Bob, that was Violet's voice I just heard! Come on! WORD UP!"
"Oh no, oh no oh no oh no oh no…well, at least things can't get any worse…"
"ROBOTS! START SMASHING!"
"Oh no, oh no now the tower is starting to shake, oh no please hurry Becky please-"
FLASH
"Becky! You saved me! Thank you, I was trapped at the top of that tower, I don't even remember how I got there-"
"-No problem Violet. Are you sure you're okay?"
"No Becky, no I'm NOT okay. I messed up Becky. I messed up BIG TIME and I'm already the worst sister in the world!"
Wordgirl and Violet land in the forest outside of town. Wordgirl zooms away for a moment to destroy Tobey's robots, then returns and sits down next to Violet.
"What happened, Violet? Do you want to talk about it?"
"Sigh…it all started when I took Tobey's remote from him, Becky."
"You stole Tobey's remote?"
"He was going to do bad things with it, Becky. He even told me, he said he was going to smash someone's house. I couldn't just let that happen! Or at least…at least I THOUGHT I couldn't. It was awful, Becky! I was just laying there all night, thinking about all the horrible things that Tobey could do. It's MY responsibility now, Becky! It's my responsibility-"
"-No Violet. It's not."
"But it's what his mother does, Becky. Whenever Tobey does something wrong, she takes away his remote and-"
"-Exactly. But here's the thing, Violet; you're not Tobey's mother."
"So…so what then? Should I LET HIM smash stuff?"
"He's not going to smash stuff, Violet. Stopping him from doing that is MY job."
"So…so then what AM I supposed to do, Becky? If I'm not supposed to take his remote, and I'm not supposed to break his robots…what AM I supposed to do?"
Becky sighs.
Then she lets off a small smile.
"...Do you remember when we were at the wedding? And you and Tobey asked me to tell you the definition of the word 'mutual'?"
"Yes, of course."
"I really wanted to do it, Violet. But it's rude to talk during a wedding, and I didn't want to set a bad example for my little brother TJ. He was standing right next to me, and if he heard me talking then…well, I'd be a bad older sister if I modeled bad behavior like that in front of him."
"Modeled? Like in art class?"
"No, this is a different kind of model. To 'model' means to show off good behavior, in the hopes that other people will see you and want to do the same. You know, like a role model?"
"Oh, a ROLE model, now I get it. But…why are you mentioning this to me right now?"
"Because that's YOUR job, Violet. You're not a superhero and you're not a parent. You're an older sister, and that's a job that's even tougher; all you have to do is be a good role model to Tobey."
"...Role model…that's it?"
"It's not easy, Violet. Trust me."
"No. No I guess it's not. Thank you Becky."
The two best friends hug yet again.
Two weeks later, after Tobey's latest grounding finally comes to an end…
"-A trip to the beach, Violet? Why would I ever want to go to the beach with you after you stole my remote?"
"I'm sorry about that, Tobey. That was wrong of me. I promise, I won't do it again."
"How do I know this isn't another trick?"
"If you come to the beach with us, I'll buy you ice cream."
"Very well, sold!"
"Ah, the beach. Such a wonderful place, such beautiful waves, such glistening sand, such RECKLESS SURFERS COMING RIGHT TOWARDS US AGHHH!"
SPLASH
"How DARE you make me all wet! You shall pay for this, you shall PAY…wait, Violet, what are you doing?"
"Just getting some towels."
"You're not mad? Those two RUDE delinquents just soaked the both of us! Aren't you furious?"
"I'm a little upset, I guess."
"Yes, exactly! Now, where did I put my remote, I know it's in my beach bag somewhere-"
"-I'm just going to go get some ice cream and forget all about it. Coming?"
"You…you're going to what? Forget about it?"
"Come on, before the line gets too long!"
"I…forget about it…hmm."
Sigh.
"Well, I suppose it would be a waste of a perfectly good…ugh…hang on, sister dearest! Wait for me!"
And so, once again Wordgirl was able to save the day, with a combination of her usual action-packed smashing, plus a DIFFERENT power that we don't often get to see; the power of words.
Well, actually, I guess we see that every single episode.
Let me rephrase; Wordgirl was able to use her words to help her friend Violet learn to become a better sister to quite possibly the worst step-brother on the planet…and made him just a bit less awful in the process.
Tune in next time for another exciting adventure from that most inspiring of role models… WORDGIRL!
