Chapter 1

Hearing the door close behind her, Jenny turns to the window lost in her thoughts. Dinozzo turned out to be more difficult than she anticipated. She thought after Gibb's departure, Dinozzo would be falling all over his feet, wanting to prove himself capable of Gibb's replacement. Instead, Dinozzo turned out to be an exception. While he is eager to prove himself, he is also intelligent and observant enough to begin comprehending the inconsistencies in mission protocols and its parameters. He was tentatively right now questioning the fact that other than Jenny, he has no backup. He delicately and logically pointed out that since Jenny is the Director of NCIS, the mission cannot be the sole focus. There has to be someone else, who can take over for her when needed. Jenny, in no capacity could let SecNav know that she sanctioned a mission without his approval. But with Dinozzo's probing, it might not be very long before the mission comes under SecNav scrutiny, or more importantly Dinozzo's scrutiny. Jenny has made too many compromises to reach where she is today.

What should Jenny do? She cannot let any experienced NCIS agents take the backup of Dinozzo. Because the experienced agents would immediately point out the various inconsistencies in the mission parameters. And Dinozzo is her scapegoat. He has to be there to take the fall, in case the mission fails. No trace of the mission should be led back to her, which would inevitably happen if she involves more NCIS resources. So what can she do, to make sure Dinozzo keeps his mouth shut, at the same time away from the scrutiny of the upper authorities?

Still lost in her thoughts, Jenny starts going through the new recruits files. After doing so, she starts reading the new agents incidents report. Suddenly, a realization strikes her. Agents are usually recognized through incident reports. And it is the Directors power to give recognition to those incidents via signatures. What if she finds a new agent and makes them the backup of Dinozzo? An agent who is attractive enough for Dinozzo's head to be turned and distracted. Jenny understood that beautiful women are Dinozzo's weakness. And it has been only one year since Agent Caitlin Todd's death. What if she found someone who showed similarities to Caitlin at the same time beautiful enough to distract Dinozzo from being suspicious. It would strike 2 birds with one stone.

Jenny fervently went back to the files and started reading through the new recruits. Her frustration grew, as she became dejected with the choices presented. But when she reached the last file and opened it, Jenny smiles and thought "She will be perfect."
