Chapter Two

"For the last time Tyler, you're not coming."

Tyler's frown didn't let up, but Caleb was also wearing one. The two stared each other down while Pogue, Reid, Kate, and Sarah all watched them. They had been in a standoff for the last ten minutes, the base of their argument being, once again, Tyler trying to go with Caleb and his mother. He had been shot down by everyone, including Reid. While the blond definitely understood his best friend's urge to stay by Bonnie's side and keep her safe, he had also taken the news of Caleb and Bonnie's, for lack of a better term, engagement; with a sound mind.

That alone had Pogue and Caleb concerned. It was rare for the two youngest to have their roles swapped. But Tyler would do anything for Bonnie and Reid would do anything to keep his two pseudo siblings from fucking up and dying. None of them knew that down the line, Reid was going to be having various mini-heart attacks in regards to Bonnie's safety.

Sarah, who hadn't yet been informed of why Caleb had to go, spoke up. "Oh come on, Caleb what harm could it be? He obviously likes her," she said with mirth. Kate's head whirled to the blonde. She had seen Bonnie before, and even she knew Tyler felt nothing but brotherly love for the girl; albeit a bit overprotective.

The sclera of Caleb's eyes started to turn black. Sarah and Kate couldn't really see it, but the Sons could. Pogue stepped in before his best friend did something he wasn't going to like.

"Tyler, I get it. We all want to be there for her," he said, gesturing his hand out to Reid and himself. He also kept a steady hand on Caleb's shoulder for good measure. "But we can't. Evelyn and Caleb are representing us as a whole."

"So we go as a whole," Tyler snapped at him.

"Baby boy," Reid spoke up then, and pushed past Pogue, and clapped his hands on Tyler's shoulders. "Think about what Bonnibee would want. Would she really want all of us there when the emotions are already high? She's gonna need us to be strong and, as much as it pains me the say it, Caleb is the strongest of us."

The world had to be coming to an end. Either that or Hell was about to freeze over.

But it was effective. They watched as Tyler's shoulder sagged though he never let his eyes leave Caleb. His jaw was also still tight, but he gruffed a response. "Fine, but only for Bonnie."

Reid took that with a nod. It was better than having to pick him off the floor.

Pogue looked between his brother in all but blood, and he didn't really like what he was seeing. It was so bizarre to see Tyler and Caleb at odds. They were usually on good terms. The youngest looked up to their leader, even if he had Reid whispering in his ear every so often.

But everything definitely changed whenever Bonnie came to town. Tyler became this gallant protector who would send a glare to any male who so much as looked at their little Bonnibee. Caleb was the one who mainly got it, at least until the past summer.

They hadn't seen Bonnie since she and Shelia left a few days into their visit. Rudy had decided to put his foot down and be a father; not wanting Bonnie anywhere anything supernatural.

Did the guy not know it was like not being able to breathe? None of them had really liked either of Bonnie's parents. Abby flew the coop when Bonnie was eight and they would never forget how much she cried when they saw her. That probably the few times Caleb had actually been so close to Bonnie.

He remembered seeing them, Caleb just about to turn twelve, and making sure Bonnie was happy every chance that he could. He was pretty sure that's when her crush took root. Pogue had to admit it was cute.

The second Son sighed, running a hand through his hair. This was going to be a mess.

There was a knock at the door.

"Bonnie?"

The teenage witch didn't look up from the small cellular device she had been clutching in her hands. Her dad tried again and after a few seconds, she heard his footsteps retreating. She paid him no mind, instead, she kept her eyes trained on the two text messages she had received from Elena.

Need help with a spell.

Call me, plz? Need to talk.

Her Grams had died, and Elena had been there. Elena had been there to pull her away and get her situated. But she hadn't stayed. She had called her father and Sheriff Forbes. Once Liz came with the paramedics, Elena disappeared and she hadn't heard from the other girl until today. This was how she wanted to open up communication? No text about a ' Hi, how goes it?' or a freaking sad face? No got right to the point.

Bonnie wasn't her friend, Bonnie was her magical fix-it-tool.

She screamed and threw her phone down onto the bed.

Elena was beginning to change. She hadn't been this way in the summer when her parents died. She had come flying to Bonnie's side for comfort. She could remember all the nights she was cuddled up with the brunette as she cried her heart out. She remembered how Elena saying she was the best friend in the world.

She didn't have to be there for the girl. She could have taken her grandmother's offer to go back to Ipswich. At least there she had Tyler, Reid, and Pogue too. The three of them had been there for her whenever she was upset. Tyler was practically attached to her hip.

The only person she hadn't seen much of was Caleb, but that wasn't anything new. Caleb had broken her heart when she was twelve and every summer since then, they had been walking circles around each other. It wasn't a bad thing to Bonnie, but it stung.

Her phone buzzed again. She looked at the contact name and smiled.

From Baby Boy

U ok?

She sent back a quick text. Not really :(

Her phone buzzed a minute later. Bummer. Reid sends his love.

She smiled and sent back her own love. After a few minutes, she sent out another text. Are you coming to the funeral?

He answered back. No. Caleb and Aunt Evelyn are.

She stilled. Caleb was coming to Mystic Falls?

Her heart skipped a beat, thinking of him. Those brown eyes, his smile - her whole face went hot.

She never noticed how her magic sizzled with life at the thought of him.
