Chapter 1

"You really are an amazing woman, I've never seen someone make a shot like that from so far away."

His praises made her smile every time.

"This is just the world we live in, we have to embrace it in order to survive."

For a mortal of this era, he was wiser than most. Hell, he was wiser than most of those that lived when her family were at their best. He was one of a kind, the first in over three thousand years, and somehow she'd fallen head over heels for him. Somehow she, Artemis the goddess of the hunt, managed to love the mortal man, Minato. So much so that her vow of chastity had been broken with much deliberation and thought.

"Don't worry, I'll be back in a few days, four at the most." – "I promise."

So why, why did he break his promise? Why did he die? Why did he leave her alone, nine months pregnant?

Artemis stared at herself in the mirror. Despite being thousands of years old, she looked to be in her mid twenties. Being pregnant had aged her a bit. She'd been crying for a while now and she looked ragged. She couldn't let anyone see her like this, nobody could know that she was carrying a child or there would be hell to pay. Her hunters couldn't know and none of her relatives could know. Sadly people were starting to ask questions.

One question in particular was why she didn't live on New Olympus with her kin. And, why she chose to make her home in the forest a whole continent away.

"Listen, I need some space from, well, everyone for a while." Artemis said. "Just give me a while…I'll follow the new laws and all that."

One important law was that they weren't allowed to have any sort of romantic or sexual relationship with mortals. Especially if it produced a child. This specifically applied to gods like Zeus, Poseidon, Aphrodite, Ares, Apollo, and Hermes. Nobody mentioned her when the law was created since nobody expected her to break it. But, now she had broken it and there was a demigod on the way.

She needed help, serious help from someone who wouldn't rat on her. Someone with enough compassion to help her in secret. She knew of a few people, but they were family and one ruled the Underworld.

"She won't say anything, I know she won't, but what if she does?" Artemis paced back and forth. "Why is she more trustworthy than my own brother?"

She looked to her fireplace, all it took was inviting her in and she would appear, and Artemis was desperate. Kneeling in front of the fireplace, she took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She didn't have any other options.

"I invite you into my home, grandmother Hestia."

The fireplace was suddenly lit ablaze, and the front door opened. The feeling of godly power confirmed it, she was here. Turning around she saw a twelve year old girl wearing a brown dress and a robe. Her eyes were fire red and her brown hair was mousy. The elder goddess stepped inside.A new form for a new era.

"This is a nice little home you have here, Artemis." Hestia said as she walked over to her. "I'm honored that you'd invite me…in."

Artemis had stood up and turned to her. Allowing Hestia to see her stomach and within seconds she understood the situation. This wasn't a normal call.

"You've broken your vow." Hestia stated in absolute shock. "You had relations with a man?" – "Was it consensual?"

"Of course it was!" – "I would never force myself on someone like my father or brother…or uncle; I'm better or at least I thought I was."

Tears began to stream down her cheeks.

"Hestia, I need help." She sniffled. "The father is dead and I don't know the first thing about raising a child."

Hestia sighed. The goddess wasn't so much disappointed as she was relieved that Artemis had called her for assistance, and not someone like Hera. That damned woman might just take her anger out on Zeus's new grandchild. Sure Zeus hadn't sired any children, but that didn't stop him from messing around with nymphs. The human women of this era weren't like the humans they were used to, the ones they kept on New Olympus to worship them.

"Don't worry, you'll have my full support." Hestia said with a smile as she touched Artemis's belly with both hands. "This one will be raised right."

She felt a kick, a strong kick, the little thing sure was energetic that much was clear. Hopefully this wouldn't go south. They didn't need anyone finding out, at least not while the child was defenseless.

1 Month Later – Artemis's Home – Nighttime

Twelve hours of labor and a barrier to conceal anything that might catch the attention of other gods or other nonhuman beings. Artemis was now holding her child, a healthy baby boy with blue eyes and three whisker birthmarks on either cheek. Strange birthmarks for sure, but they made him look more adorable than he already was.

The child was born on October 10th under a full moon.

"Child of the hunt, I bless you with the goddess's hearth so that flames will see you as an ally forevermore." Hestia said.

Blue flames danced around the newborn, not hurting him, but calming him down.

"So, what will you name him?"

"I think I'll go with the name Minato suggested back then." Artemis said with a small smile. "Naruto, his name is Naruto."
