"Happy birthday, Double D," Ed said with enthusiasm as he handed his present to the friend in question.

"Why thank you, Ed," Double D said, "That was very thoughtful of you!"

Double D opened it, and he smiled in recognition, "My very own pet slime in a jar! Thank you, Ed!"

Double D held up a jar full of a green and blue substance that seemed to be gelatinous.

Ed said, "I made it myself, but be careful not to get it wet or feed it after midnight."

Double D chuckled, "I'll keep that in mind. I'll name it, Nebulous."

Double D made a little label for it and set it aside.

Eddy said, "Mine next!"

Double D took the present from Eddy and opened it.

Double D said, "A new piggy bank. Thank you, Eddy, very practical."

Eddy said, "Don't mention it, Sockhead. You gotta keep all your quarters somewhere!"

Double D then pulled out a small container and presented the two of them with homemade cupcakes. They took them to eat eagerly.

Meanwhile, Sarah and Jimmy were busy planning their party for the next day.

Jimmy asked, "Why aren't you having your party today, Sarah? Isn't today technically your birthday?"

Sarah said, "Well, my big brother seemed to have convinced my mom to celebrate Double-D's birthday today instead."

Jimmy asked, "What are the odds that you and Double D were born on the same day?"

Sarah replied, "I don't know, and I don't care."

Sarah, "I'm going to have so much fun he'll feel bad for ever blowing me off!"

Sarah held up a tiara encrusted with jewels with a twisted grin.

The next day, Sarah had a full-on party with decorations. There must have been a pile of presents in the corner, and Ed was at Sarah's beck and call. Sarah was dressed like a princess. The other kids were lavishing her with attention.

Naz chirped, "You look great in that outfit, Sarah."

Sarah said, "Yeah, I know, that's why I'm wearing it."

Sarah fluffed her hair, and Ed brought out a giant cake and helped Sarah blow the candle at the tippy top. Ed didn't look pleased. But that didn't matter now; this was her party, after all. Ed cut Sarah the first slice and served everyone else except himself. Sarah then tore into presents and was given all kinds of girly and glittery toys. She noticed, however, that Ed didn't give her a gift.

Sarah confronted Ed directly, "Why didn't you give me a present?"

Ed answered angrily, "You never like what I give you."

Sarah snapped, "Because you're just not very good at giving me gifts!"

Ed noted, "Last year, I gave you a Happy Horse comic. You shredded it the same day because you couldn't scratch and sniff the panels showing off food."

Sarah snapped, "You know I prefer scratch-and-sniff comics. You gave your friend a thoughtful gift. I don't see why you can't give me that same treatment!"

Ed snapped right back, "You've been lavished with gifts by everyone else, and you still expect me to give you a thoughtful gift? You should be grateful you had such a big party at all!"

Sarah grew angry, pulling her tiara out of her hair, throwing it on the ground, and shouting, "Everybody out!"

The other kids cleared out of the house quickly. Ed was startled by the outburst.

Sarah hissed, "You, go to your room, or I'll tell Mom you ruined my birthday!"

Ed nervously acquiesced. Sarah turned to her crown, and she gasped because she saw that it was in pieces. Tears streamed down her face as she picked up the gemstones and the fractured crown. Footsteps came to her. She turned and was startled by a girl about Ed's age with a party hat on. She held something behind her back.

The girl said, "Hello, my name is Barbra. I wanted to pop by and give you something special."

Sarah asked with a sniff, "What?"

Barbra said, holding out a chocolate cupcake with a candle on it, "A magic candle; if you whisper your wish to it before you blow it out, it will come true tomorrow."

Sarah asked, "But why me, and why now?"

Barbra lit the candle and answered, "I have a feeling you want to make an extraordinary wish."

Sarah took a deep breath, came to the candle, and whispered, "I wish Ed, Edd, and Eddy never met."

She closed her eyes and blew out the candle. When she opened her eyes, Barbra was gone. Sarah cleaned up her tiara and set it on the dresser. Then she fell asleep in her princess outfit.
