Note: Only a few more chapters and then we will be finished, but court will be on the way soon, so stay tuned and look out for the next story.
Hamilton showed up at Perry's house the minute he was called. He wondered if there was anything new from what's been happening since the twenty - four hour recess. Court will happen again in nine hours. What does Mason want to share with him about?
He parked the car in the driveway after seeing Della's car. Once he got out, Hamilton locked his car and rang the doorbell. Perry answered this time.
"Come on in, Hamilton."
"I wondering how you were doing since the last time I saw you. Tell me why you wanted me to show up here."
"We've been talking about the case. Do you want anything?" Perry asked.
"No, thanks. I should be on lunch break soon. I appreciate the offer."
Della walked into the living room and sat next to Perry.
"What have you guys found out?"
"Hamilton, do you remember that case when the kids and their dog showed up a couple months ago?"
Hamilton nodded.
"I do. What about it?"
"I'm going to restart that case when this whole thing is over. I have been doing a lot of thinking about it."
"Perry, share with him what you thought about the car accident," Della said.
"Oh, yes. Before I share, Hamilton, the Johnsons' lawyer stopped by earlier."
"What did he want?"
"Asked a few questions. He did mention the vacation time people did get an update about me. He was asking something about if I remembered what other vehicles were there when they hit my car."
"What information did he have?"
"He said the Johnsons said something about the vehicle being a brown truck. I told him I saw the same thing."
"Now we're getting somewhere. Did the Johnsons' lawyer get permission to come over here?"
"I think he got it from the doctor."
"Again? He's been involved in this since the beginning, I think."
"Paul says he still thinks that doctor did it," Della said.
"I was also thinking that somebody that my father used to work with could have made it happen to my car in the beginning when somebody reported me to the hospital. I still don't know who did that. Have you found out anything, Hamilton?"
"Not much. I was able to be part of the tour at the garage to see for myself what that car looked like since you were taken in the hospital."
"What did it look like, Hamilton? I need to know the story since it's my car."
"You mean was, Perry. It's pretty damaged badly."
"Then that means a new car, right?"
"Talk with the doctor about it. Did the Johnsons' lawyer say anything about it to you? I was able to see and talk with him for a few minutes after the tour."
"He even talked with Della about the information, so he sounded like he didn't want me to hear about it. I need to know, Hamilton."
"I thought Paul said something about the car not changing much since it was taken in along with me to the hospital. Hutchinson said the questions will be asked tomorrow on the witness stand."
"Yes, they will be."
"We did talk about my father as well, but mostly with Della and my mother."
"What about him?"
"We think somebody worked with him a long time ago could have made the accident happen and me seriously hurt."
"I never thought about that. We can mention it tomorrow in court on the witness stand."
"It looks that way," Perry agreed.
Perry also asked a question.
"Hamilton, have you heard stories about what he did back then? I was thinking of restarting his murder case and find out who worked with him at the time before his murder. Even my mother shared something during the conversation we had on trying to forgive me on what happened a couple months ago when she was on the witness stand."
"No, I haven't. I am afraid I can't help you, Perry, but I do know who your father was. I'm sorry he was murdered at the end."
"I know. He and my mother were really close, you know. This is why I was on her side to believe her. She still doesn't agree, so this is why we're trying to make up after fighting for a couple months."
"I get that. Why are you asking about your father and what he did? I thought you should have known by now."
"So did I, but I don't know much what his background is. I somehow like to think a client or two of his that he had several years ago could have been involved with this car accident that made me not drive much anymore for now."
"Maybe after the court date is over, Dr. Webber might let you take a look at the car. Hutchinson said the car is really damaged bad since the last time your investigator looked at it. That's why I was at the tour with him and me."
"Why did you get a tour, Hamilton?"
"I guess it was your investigator's idea so we could see for ourselves."
"You should have given me all the details about my car instead of not saying anything. Do the Johnsons have to come along?"
"Yes, they do. That's what Hutchinson said. But he did mention he bought the Johnsons up - to - date about you and the car. They have to know if they're going to pay the price for us and the car, Perry. He also said something that he mentioned to them the price might go up. I think he's right. How about you? Don't you agree?"
"Yrs, I do. I think we should look at the car before going into court tomorrow."
"Talk with the doctor about it, Perry. Only he can answer that, not us."
"Do you think he could be part of this also? Paul seems to think so."
"I don't know what to think, Perry. Or it could be both the doctor and the Johnsons. This could be why we didn't want you to see the car or hear about it. I'm sure Hutchinson probably gave that secretary of yours an update."
"I was sent to the kitchen, Hamilton. I guess that's why he wanted to talk with Della."
"The kitchen in the best if you're not supposed to hear anything about the car. I don't know the doctor very well to know if he's part of the accident or not, but if your investigator thinks so, good enough for us."
"Hutchinson asked me a question or two also."
"About what?"
"If I think he might have asked a second question, but now I forget what it was."
"Thanks for the update, Perry."
"I don't think the Johnsons had any updates about their child," Hamilton said.
"I forgot about the children. I remember the children before I passed out shortly after the Johnsons hit my car. I don't know Hutchinson very well, Hamilton."
"We went to law school when we decided that we wanted to help people who are in trouble, Perry, but I didn't know him very well in the beginning like I do now. That's probably why you don't work with him very often, Perry. He has two children of his own who are on the way to high school. I'm guessing one of them might show interest in law school to keep the generations going, so I don't know for sure."
"What does his wife do?"
"She volunteers at a church. She seems to like it and been there for a long time."
Then Hamilton added, "I'm happy to see you're looking a bit better since the accident happened. But you still have a long way to to recover."
"I've heard the same thing. I guess my mother didn't pay much attention on what I looked like since the last time before the fight happened. We had never done this before. She and I used to be close."
"I'll go by the police station and talk with the Johnsons if there's any update on about their child. Hutchinson didn't say much about the child."
"I'd like to go with you, Hamilton."
"You still have a few hours left, Perry."
