Hey, guys! Yeah, I know I haven't updated this in forever (the last time being Oct. 25, 2022), but things in my real life were really hectic, plus I had other projects I was focusing on. Anyway, I thought I'd at least try to update "Eternal Flame"
I tip my hat to the keeper of the stars
He sure knew what he was doin'
When he joined these two hearts
I hold everything
When I hold you in my arms
I've got all I'll ever need
Thanks to the keeper of the stars
The sun set slowly in the west, bathing everything in a rich array of colors. Klaus loved this time of day, because he found solace in the coming of the night. It also provided him with some inspiration to immortalize it in a painting (despite probably having over a thousand of them in his collection already).
"Couldn't resist the urge to paint another sunset, huh, Nik?"
Klaus smiled at that voice behind him. Only one person in the world possessed such a voice. He turned around to see Caroline standing there. She wore a white sundress that she purchased before they came here to the island they were spending their romantic vacation on.
"You're right about that, love. I couldn't resist the urge of immortalizing the beauty of a sunset. The conclusion of yet another day on this mortal plane. Though, in our case, immortal plane."
Caroline nodded. "There are times I forget I'm a vampire and that I'll outlive everyone around me."
"You're not alone, Caroline," said Klaus. "I forget myself."
"I find that hard to believe," said Caroline. "Then again, you've been around a lot longer than I have and you've experienced more than I have." She shook her head. "What were we talking about again?"
Klaus laughed. "I believe we were talking about the sunset and how I couldn't resist the urge to paint it."
"Which reminds me, don't you already have paintings of sunsets in your collection? I think I must have seen at least a dozen, many more."
"They're my favorite subject," said Klaus.
"I thought I was your favorite subject?"
Klaus laughed again and approached her, pulling her into an embrace and kissing her passionately. Caroline smiled against his lips and returned the kiss, wrapping her arms around his neck as they deepened it. After a few minutes, Klaus reluctantly pulled away, gazing into her blue eyes with his greenish blue ones.
"Sweet, silly Caroline. Were you actually jealous of a mere painting?"
"I wasn't jealous," she said. "I was asking a question."
"Which had a hint of jealousy buried within it."
"You know, I'll never be able to figure you out," said Caroline. "I could spend decades trying and yet, my efforts would be rendered pointless."
"All part of being in a relationship with me, love," said Klaus. "I keep you guessing." He kissed her again. "Tell you what, how about I combine my two favorite subjects? In other words, paint you and the sunset together?"
"Damn you, Nik, how did you know I was going to suggest that?" Her eyes widened. "You read my mind, did you?"
"See? I keep you guessing. So, even though I've discovered what you were going to suggest, do you still want to go through with it?"
"Why not? You were going to do it anyway."
Klaus smiled and, letting go of her, vamp sped away, returning a second later with his sketch pad and pencils, as well as his easel and canvas. He then set to work on creating his masterpiece. Caroline watched as he worked. It never ceased to amaze her just how skilled he was. There was no doubt in her mind that she made the right choice to be with him.
NOTE: Yeah, I know this is short, but I couldn't think of anything else to add. Enjoy the update anyway, lovelies!
