Here's an epilogue for what happens in the future with these characters. I went against the lore from Yashahime because I honestly didn't like what they did to everyone. They deserved better.
Any who. I hope you can enjoy this amendment.
Inuyasha heard the faint whisper of a thump in the shadows of a room. He could perceive it with a queer sense of clarity, and it was made apparent when he approached the sound coming from deep within the chamber he and Kagome shared. The more he advanced, the louder it became, and it quickened with each second as if racing for a marathon.
Inside his bedroom, he found Kagome resting. She lay peacefully on their mat, breathing softly against the soft breeze coming in from their window. Her hair let loose, sprawled across the white pillow mat, made aglow by the pale moon's light.
The thump came from where she lay, but it was not hers, for he knew the even cadence of her heart, and it resembled nothing like this. This was soft, almost imperceptible, especially to any mortal, but he understood what it meant, and could feel his own heart start to beat erratically.
He swallowed thickly, feeling some strange emotion grip him. It was a good feeling. One he hadn't felt since he regained all memories of his life with Kagome six months ago. Since then, he abstained from venturing far from the village. He spent most of his time reveling in the overwhelming love he had for his wife, and the gratitude he felt for his friends. He knew no way to repay them for their efforts but worked tirelessly to make them understand, at the least, how much they meant to him.
And now, Kagome was pregnant. Inuyasha could hardly believe it, but he only had to take a moment to rethink this to realize that it was obvious this would occur sooner than later. After all, nary a day passed when he didn't make love to Kagome, whether it was swift and fiery, or slow and passionate; in their bedroom, or beneath the twinkling stars in a field on a hill where burdens were set to rest. Theirs was a love that could not be quenched, and it was made stronger despite every trial.
He wanted to wake Kagome and alert her about this wonderful news but didn't have the heart to move her from her sleep. She seemed so at peace, untroubled by any scuffles in life. He wished she could always remain in this state, but knew it was paramount that she take care of this new pregnancy immediately. He did not wish to have a repeat of the tragedy that happened what seemed like ages ago.
Yearning for the child he lost tore into him. And guilt. No matter what Kagome said or did to assuage it, Inuyasha was unable to let go of the guilt he felt over losing his memory during her time of need, even though it was not his fault. He still felt that it was, and so, he promised himself that he would take every precaution with this new bundle of love, making sure to never let what happened before take place again.
He managed to do so with relative ease, because as the months progressed, Inuyasha was able to stand at Kagome's side for every moment of her pregnancy. He could see that even she was worried about what would occur with this child, and he observed how she would try to sometimes build a wall to stop herself from feeling too much emotion for the baby who was not yet born. But Inuyasha made it so hard for her not to care because he would do the sweetest things no matter the hour, sometimes resting his head on Kagome's belly in order to hear every heartbeat from their child, or simply talk to him or her in order to let them grow accustomed to the sound of their father's voice.
After four months, the baby had already begun to kick, and when it first happened, it was during a visit to Jinenji's garden. The timing was perfect since all of her friends and family were present to gather some harvest for the winter to come, but Inuyasha had taken that moment to stop everything so he could feel the baby move beneath his warm, calloused hands. Kagome watched his look of amazement turn to wonder, and then to overwhelming joy. She could see moisture building in his eyes and walked him away from all so they could share this special moment alone, at least for a short while.
More time passed, and finally, Kagome was able to give birth to a little girl they named Moroha. She was the sweetest and most beautiful bundle of fur anyone had ever seen, with eyes and hair like the mother who bore her. He wanted to show her to the world and was able to achieve this without much trouble. All of his friends and family came to see the child, and they adored the baby almost as much as her parents.
During her first birthday, he and Kagome prepared a celebration, inviting everyone they knew to their home. Since he had very little need to venture outside of the village except to help humans sparingly, Inuyasha worked relentlessly to make some changes to his home, adding extensions to certain areas, and even building a whole new room for the baby. She hadn't yet made much use of the space, since she preferred sleeping with her parents, but Inuyasha had no complaints. Except for one thing.
No one had heard from Sesshomaru for nearly two years. Inuyasha, Miroku, and some of their other comrades continued to make inquiries about the war they heard of years ago, but few demons knew anything of the sort. In fact, it seemed as though the only demons remaining had no need to bother anyone, while those with more malicious intentions appeared to have disappeared. No one complained of this happenstance, but it was still rather concerning, especially for Inuyasha and Rin.
He would deny it with his every breath, but in the depths of his heart, he was saddened over the fact that Sesshomaru missed a lot of what was happening. The demon lord didn't care much for Inuyasha, but surely he would share some concern for his new niece. And Rin... Had he forgotten about her? She was growing every day, maturing into a woman many suitors desired. Yet, she waited patiently for her lord and love, expecting his return at any moment. Where had he gone?
Inuyasha did not receive an answer until Moroha turned three. While walking outside of their village in the morning hours, when the fog failed to climb, and the sun had yet to meet the horizon, Inuyasha thought to take his daughter to the bone eater's well. During their commute, he spoke about the history he and Kagome shared within the forest. His daughter listened to him in rapt wonder, while sitting atop his shoulders.
He and Moroha stopped at the well to peer beneath the surface.
"Mom used to come out of here," Inuyasha said.
Moroha placed her hands on her father's cheeks and kissed the crown of his head. "Weally daddy?"
Inuyasha nodded after swallowing a lump in his throat. "Y-yup. Sometimes, she would go away to see her mommy and brother. But she would always come back to me."
Moroha sighed. "Mommy's so nice."
Inuyasha chuckled. Kagome was the most amazing person he ever knew. She managed to wait for his memory to return, holding onto all hope for weeks. He would not have had the same patience if it happened to him. He could only call himself blessed for every moment he shared with her and his baby girl.
"Mommy's awesome, Moroha, and-"
He stopped when Moroha gasped suddenly, then went into alert dad mode.
"Daddy look!" she cried while pointing up ahead, behind the well.
He turned his gaze to see the silhouette of a tall being approaching, with hair the color of winter's first snow. The creature moved forward within the mist, his gait measured and filled with purpose. The closer he walked, the more Inuyasha could see, until he finally was able to make out the figure in perfect clarity.
Inuyasha drew in a sharp breath.
It was Sesshomaru.
Finally, he had returned.
THE END
Tune in next time, for the new story I have planned, focusing on Sesshomaru and his whereabouts over the past five years.
He's been a bad boy.
