"I can't deny being happy," I reply, breathing easier after hearing it from her lips. "But I don't like the thought of you being upset."
"Thank you," she says, falling silent.
I open my mouth several times.
Then close it.
I don't know what she wants from me, so I'm not about to push anything. Last time got me booted from her presence.
"I don't know how to be a mother," she finally breathes.
"You never will unless you try," I say, fighting for Masie. "But we can start slow."
"Like videos and stuff?"
"Yeah." I grin. "That sounds perfect."
