Luke was waiting for Brooke on her front porch when she got back from her walk.
"Luke! What are you doing here?" she asked, amazed how her heart skipped a beat seeing him. She brought the boys up to the front porch and gave them a few toys to entertain them. Luke wrapped her in a giant hug, burying his face in her hair.
Brooke was so surprised. Luke held her so close she could hear his heart beating. She inhaled his familiar scent as he kissed the top of her head. So much was said without words between them.
"Would you like to sit down and watch the boys so I can get their bottles and I'll bring us drinks too?" Brooke asked after a moment.
"Sure."
"Thanks," Brooke smiled at him, carrying the diaper bag inside.
Luke looked down at the sons he shared with Brooke. Their light brown hair and blue eyes were the perfect combination of him and Brooke. The boys smiled at him and it melted his heart.
"It must be hard telling them apart," he said to Brooke as she joined him on the swing.
Brooke laughed a little. "They are identical, but Jude has a birthmark on his left cheek and slightly darker hair. It's good to see you. It means a lot you came," she added.
"I wasn't sure I should," Luke said.
"I'm glad you came to check on the boys. I see a lot of you in them, even in their personalities."
"I came for you too, Brooke. You've been on my mind a lot. Julian was a good guy and I want you to know that I never want to disrespect him. He was a true father to the twins," Luke said. Brooke nodded and smiled. He reached for her hand, taking a deep breath he wanted to be totally honest with her.
"Now, I just found out Peyton is pregnant. I couldn't be anymore shocked. My marriage was crumbling apart when I came to your New Year's Party. It was comforting being with Peyton and we crossed a line," Luke said meeting Brooke's eyes.
"Finding out she was pregnant surprised her too," Brooke told him. "She recently told me it could be yours or Nathan's."
"Yeah, another shocker," Lucas said. "I'm staying with her now for a bit because I'm getting divorced."
"What?" Brooke gasped.
"It's not going to work with Lindsay," Luke confirmed.
"That's terrible," Brooke said.
"I think our marriage has been over for a while. I'd like to be closer to you."
"I love having you here, but it makes me feel selfish considering what you're going through," Brooke said.
"You could never be selfish, Brooke, you're an angel."

Luke was lying in bed that night, thinking of how happy he'd been spending the afternoon with Brooke, when Lindsay called.
"Luke, hi," she said, when he answered.
"Hey."
"I've been missing us," she purred. "I've been looking into couple's therapy. I found someone reliable."
"Lindsay, where is this coming from?" Luke asked, feeling blindsided.
"Luke, I don't think we should throw away what we had over something that can be worked out."
"I don't know, things got pretty ugly," Luke said. Brooke was the one in his heart. He wanted to see more of her and their twins.
"At least consider it. You should take time to think before making a mistake. You owe me after our three years of marriage to at least fight for us," Lindsay said.
She could hear Luke sigh, that meant something.
"How about I set up the first session?" Lindsay asked eagerly.
"I'll have to get back to you," Luke said flatly and hung up.
Lindsay was pleased. Now that he could see she wanted to reconcile, she had to push Brooke out of the way. For good.
