A:I don't want to spoil too much, so I won't explain much. But in short, it is an invasion of our Earth, in a few years from the moment of writing (around 2030). There is no Emperor or other WH40k stuff here, the monster factions are from WH: Fantasy. How? Why? It will be explained later. Although the outcome of this 'Great Game', as Chaos calls it, is rather obvious if humanity has survived. Or maybe not?
Chapter 2 - First Contact
Gameindustry Alliance. These guys were lucky that they needed to win the lottery twice in a row. Either that, or the omniverse, multiverse, or whatever it was, finally decided to take pity on them after trying to destroy their dimensions several times and the huge amount of monsters. But seriously, Hyperdemension had 3-5 such cases in one decade, depending on how you count. And a militarized society is needed when monsters appear so often and attack towns and villages. Add in magic and technology from 100-200 years before ours and you have the most powerful faction in the Alliance.
Interview with General Dong Du, 24 AW.
=location: Gamma Island, 24 days after invasion=
As soon as the Primus protocol was activated, Gamma Island was immediately reinforced with an additional force of 100,000 UEG troops. But these were not ordinary conscripts, but actual military forces from the US, Morocco, China, and Indonesia that survived the first wave. It had some of the most advanced forces and even had nearly 100 F-35 Lightning II and Chengdu J-20 fighters deployed there on purpose. The current ambassador was on his way, escorted by a small armored column.
Major Dong Du stood with a small number of other officers, preparing to greet the diplomat. When the column finally stopped, two guards came out, followed by the UEG ambassador, Vakhtang Markarian.
"Sir." - said Lieutenant Colonel Niguel Boni approaching the ambassador - "The road to other intelligent species has been cleared of all monsters. They haven't made a single move in our direction for 2 days. Instead, they cleared their island of whatever was there and began gathering forces on this side."
"Is there anything special about this island?" - Vakhtang asked.
"No, sir." - replied Niguel - "This island is as empty as our original, only smaller. It's a bit weird because we only know of two such empty islands, and both are connections to other dimensions. Again, our and their."
"Twice, it could still be a coincidence, but I understand your take on it." - Vakhtang replied - "It is possible that such empty islands lead to other planets/dimensions that have their own civilizations. We'll have to investigate this further, but for now, can you tell me anything about these visitors."
"Yes, sir. Major Dong Du." - said Niguel, then Dong approached the ambassador.
"Sir." - Dong bega - "I am Major Dong Du. I was responsible for checking all information related to this new faction."
"Did you make any interesting discoveries?" - Vakhtang asked.
"Because we didn't want to inadvertently annoy the newcomers, our information gathering was limited to observational elements from the ground." - Dong began - "Even so, we managed to recognize 4 factions. Mainly because of the colors. Divided into purple, green, white, and black, it is immediately clear that they are tens, if not hundreds of years more advanced than we are. Violet uses only mechs and hovercrafts as vehicles. Black has a lot of conventional-looking vehicles, but in addition to using hovercrafts, our people also noticed one of the fights where their tanks were shooting some red rays, probably energy weapons. The White had mostly infantry and a few conventional vehicles. Green, on the other hand, looked to be using mechs and armored vehicles with amphibious capabilities. Unfortunately not much else."
"I see." - Vakhtang said. He thought about the possibilities of making contact for a while and finally said - "I'll take one IFV with a guard and a helper and go to meet them."
"Are you sure that's wise?" - asked Niguel - "If you are attacked, one IFV, even the best, won't be able to protect you."
"You're right, but if we go at them with an armored column, they might take it badly." - Vakhtang replied - "My guard will be one of the Special Forces soldiers who traveled with me, and Major Du as my assistant."
"What?" - Major Du asked in surprise.
"You're the person who did the research on them." - Vakhtang began to explain - "You should know more than the rest of the people here, even if only a small amount. Plus, I'll need a military guy to check everything. The rest of the commanders are at the front 24/7, working in logistics or training new recruits, so I'll have to take you."
Dong took a deep breath to calm himself and said - "I understand, sir. Shall we depart now?"
"Yes." - replied Vakhtang.
Then they both got into the German IFV Puma and headed toward the newcomers. The journey was generally uneventful, only Vakhtang was reviewing some documents Colonel Boni had given him as Puma crossed the now-populated island of Earth soldiers. After a relatively short time, they reached the bridge connecting them with the unknown. Since they weren't destroyed when they drove through it, everyone in the vehicle was relieved. When they finally reached the end of the bridge, they saw a group of 8 soldiers in 4 types of uniforms on the road.
Lieutenant Sigiwald Kleinpeter stepped out of the Puma he commanded and quickly said - "I'm taking the United Earth Government ambassador with 2 guards to your commander."
"I was expecting you." - replied one of the guards in purple - "We will take you to the Gamindustri Alliance (GA) representative, but your armored vehicle will have to stay here."
Vakhtang, hearing of these terms, quickly agreed and set off with Dong and the guard. The walk was short, but Dong quickly decided to assess as much as he could about these newcomers. Many of the soldiers' weapons varied significantly. The purple ones had the most futuristic and their mechs were fully humanoid. The Greens had mechs, but more realistic, and their weapons were mostly conventional, but the little generators on the rifles were very unusual unless they were Colguns. The blacks had standard tanks, IFVs, and hovercrafts, but he saw lenses in the barrels, which, combined with previous observations, suggested laser weapons. The Whites, on the other hand, wore some strange cross between a sword and a rifle. It was a weapon for sure, and judging by their allies, better than anything a UEG soldier might have.
The thoughts ended when the soldiers stopped in front of the tent. There were 5 flags in front of him. The first four were fairly conventional, but the last one was a combination of the previous four and was probably some kind of alliance flag. You could have guessed it from the name.
But just now Dong wondered how they knew their language. Most of the officers sent here had taken an English test beforehand to see if they could communicate sufficiently with the rest of the commanders, although the vast majority of the privates skipped it as it wasn't particularly needed, at least for now.
But how did people from a completely different dimension know English? Dong knew of two possibilities. First, for some reason, they had the same language. Second, they somehow managed to translate English by listening to orders and information from the radio. Encryption wasn't a high priority when fighting mindless creatures. But even if they translated this from radio communications, they would have no more than 2 days!
But those thoughts were interrupted when a soldier came out and said the GA representative was inviting them to talk. The tent had a simple table with three chairs on its side and one person sitting across from it. She was a young and quite short woman with white blue eyes, wearing a formal black suit with silver lining with many buttons and shorts. Her face was very serious, and although she looked young, her eyes shone with experience.
The woman stood up and began - "I am Kei Jinguji and I represent the Gamindustri Alliance."
"I am Vakhtang Markarian and I represent United Earth Government. This is my sidekick Major Dong Du and guard Hiroshi. Nice to meet you." - Vakhtang said, offering a handshake which Kei accepted, which she accepted.
"Please sit down." - Kei said, pointing to the chairs on the side of the Earth representation. Vakhtang and the others sat across from Kei who continued - "Since we're done introducing ourselves, we should start exchanging information. I have permission to speak for the entire GA and the right to disclose certain information about the state of GA if I see fit. Additionally, I can conduct preliminary negotiations on the non-aggression pact, trade, technology exchange, defense alliance, and military alliance, but that will ultimately have to go to our government."
"I see." - said Vakhtang - "I have the same powers, but I can conclude a non-aggression pact without prior consultation with the government."
"So let's start with a little history of how we got here." - said Kei - "I started it. Less than a year ago, a group of interdimensional travelers fell into a dimension where these creatures…"
"Wait a minute." - Dong interrupted - "You guys have the technology for interdimensional travel?"
"Correct." - replied Kei - "Although relatively recently. Back to the point, a group of interdimensional travelers has stumbled into a dimension where these creatures have launched an attack on another species, actually their remnants. After a short fight, they retreated and checked the other dimensions, which also had similar readings to the one that was attacked. All were broken worlds. We managed to find out that they were approaching us and started preparations. We forced the portal to gather all the creatures in the former Gamindustri Graveyard, which was surrounded and fortified. After defeating the invasion, we launched our own counterattack and are now trying to open portals for our navies before we continue our offensive."
Vakhtang sighed and began - "Unfortunately, we were not so lucky and these creatures attacked us completely by surprise. We had to use nuclear weapons to stop them, but tens of millions of these creatures were still roaming our planet. The UEG rose from the ashes of the old governments and launched a general counter-offensive on all fronts. After about 2 weeks, we launched our own invasion and began to take hostile island after island."
"It looks like we have the same enemy."
"I never doubted it. The question is, will you be willing to cooperate in this fight?"
Kei and Vakhtang stared at each other for a while, then Kei said - "Actually, cooperation will be needed given the size of this dimension. The number of troops to cover the front could reach many billions given the size of this dimension. And our production of combat robots, drones, and other such tools will be insufficient. This war could drag on for decades if not hundreds of years."
"Our government has similar concerns." - Vakhtang said - "Currently we are trying absolutely everything to increase our production of military equipment, but for now we are focusing on activating and repairing ground vehicles. Although being able to open the portals would give us the ability to bring in our navy."
"I'll keep that in mind." - Kei replied.
Then there was a moment of silence when suddenly Vakhtang said - "A military alliance for the duration of the fight against these creatures and their masters."
"I'll pass it on to my government." - Kei replied.
"Meanwhile, we should exchange representatives." - said Vakhtang - "Major Dong Du here will represent the UEG. He is a great tactician and a rising star in our ground forces. If he continues like this, next year he will have his own division under his command."
"If that happens, it's only because we don't have enough officers compared to the number of conscripts arriving. Wait! Have I just been sent as a representative of the UEG?!" - Dong said in his mind.
"I can send Guild Agent IF immediately." - said Kei - "During the last decade, she has been involved in all possible crises. She is the best of the best."
In this way, in Puma, instead of Dong, IF went, while Dong stayed in the GA base.
=location: GA Main Base, 24 days after invasion=
Dong walked around the base in a little tour. His bodyguard, Agent Cave, was of the green faction, or the Leanbox nation, as Dong had learned. The whites were Lowee, the blacks were Lastation, and the purple was Planeptune. Their native dimension is called Hyperdemension. These are the things Cave told him.
His biggest surprise was that the soldiers were hardly interested in a person from another dimension. Sure, he got a few looks, but that was it. As if people from another dimension were something obvious here.
His tour showed him a joint-brigade exercise of Leanbox and Lastation, with standard Lastation tanks leading the charge, with Leanbox mechs close behind providing fire support. Elsewhere he saw Loweens practicing magic. He didn't know how they did it, but as long as they did it against monsters and not his people, he wouldn't need that knowledge. In the last spot, he saw several Planeptune soldiers practicing with the Beam Saber in several different variations. Swords were the most common, but there were also axes for infantry in power armor and a cross between rifles and spears.
The last stop was the shooting range, where they were one of the soldiers from each nation.
"Since our leaders will decide on a military alliance, and respect your temporary position, I think it would be worth showing you our primary weapons." - Cave said - "The soldiers here will show you how to use them."
"It's an honor for us." - the soldiers said simultaneously, displaying their weapons.
Dong stepped forward and thought for a moment, then decided to choose Lowee's weapon. Its strange shape was extremely intriguing and Dong wanted to know what it was doing. Curiosity was very positive here and it was one of the few good things that happened in the last month.
"Listen, Ms. Du." - said Soldier Lowee, leading him to the firing range. Considering the preparations, Dong wasn't surprised how he knew his name - "This weapon fires magical projectiles by drawing mana from your body or surroundings. You can control the form of what comes out with your willpower."
"But I don't know magic." - Dong said - "We don't even have magic on our planet. Until the invasion, magic was only in fantasy novels, movies and stuff like that."
"Just draw mana from the environment." - Loweenian said - "It's so simple that most people can do it in the first minute."
So Dong tried it and the weapon actually fired a simple mana bolt at one of the targets, obliterating it. He tried again but imagined a ball of fire, which succeeded. He eventually settled on a burst of bullets, but it was relatively slow.
"Extremely interesting weapon." - said Dong, handing the gun back - "But its rate of fire is rather slow."
"This weapon was created with firepower and different fire capabilities in mind first and foremost." - Loween said.
"What about this rifle?" - Dong asked, approaching the Leanboxan - "Looks like a gunpowder weapon, similar to the one we use, but the construction suggests something else."
"Because it also runs on magnetic acceleration." - said the Leanboxan, handing the gun - "This gives it much more firepower and maintains a high rate of fire."
Dong took the gun and fired several rounds. Accuracy and rate of fire were truly impressive, comparable to the best weapons in the UEG arsenal. But it had virtually no recoil, and the scope was a work of art. Apart from that, its penetration was probably enough to penetrate the armor of light vehicles.
"Looks like a weapon we were working on before the war." - Dong said - "Currently, we're more focused on refurbishing older models of weapons and ammo production, but after the war, maybe we'll be able to rearm our people with these weapons. Although the materials needed for its construction must have been hard to find."
"Not completely." - said Leanboxanin - "Thanks to Share Energy, we have a virtually unlimited supply of them."
"Wait what?!" - said the surprised Dong - "But how! Metals are non-renewable resources! They can't grow like trees!"
"Actually, thanks to Share Energy, these resources can be renewed." - Cave said - "I don't know how it works, but it works and has worked for thousands of years. True, it takes a generation or more, but if we have several deposits and use them wisely, we will never run out of these resources."
"Is there anything this Share Energy can't do?" - Dong asked.
"We use it as one of the main power sources, next to fusion, solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal power plants." - answered Cave - "In addition, thanks to her, Goddesses are born, which provide safety from monsters and provide protection from natural disasters. We can still use it to open interdimensional tunnels. These are the most obvious."
Dong stood there for a moment with his mouth open, as if he wanted to ask a question, but finally, he stopped himself and simply said - "I wish there was this energy in our world."
"So you don't have Share Energy?" - the Loween asked in surprise.
"I read about it somewhere." - said the Planeptunian - "Apparently in alternate dimensions the structure of reality is different, so there will be resources that do not exist here, but there will also be a shortage of other types of resources."
"That's an interesting explanation." - Cave said.
"Anyway." - said the Lastationian - "You want to try Lastation weapons, too. We make the most stuff in the world and I can proudly say that we are the biggest of the 4 countries of Gameindustry."
"-cough-Continuous reliance on fossil fuels.-cough-" - said Loweenian.
"-cough-Your main weapons are flashlights.-cough-" said Leanboxian.
"-cough-CPU Black Heart is a tsundere and a loner.-cough-" - said Planeptunian.
"You're just jealous because we have the largest population and the most Share energy. Besides, Layd Black Heart isn't a loner." - said the Lastationian.
"Anyway." - said Dong, interrupting this debate - "I'll best evaluate this weapon myself."
Then he took a flashlight and started shooting. They had a good rate of fire and a large magazine, and the damage was still decent. Worse than previous weapons, but better than many UEG weapons. But he'd need a comparison on monsters, or at least their corpses, to be sure. Although he saw the advantages of owning a gun that didn't need a constant supply of ammunition. This would greatly reduce the burden on their logistics.
"This weapon has a lot of advantages on a strategic level, but it is tactically different from the previous two." - Dong said. The Lastationian looked a bit offended, but he just said his weapon is worse than the previous two, so he's not too surprised.
"Only the most technologically advanced weapons are left for you to test." - said the Planeptunian. The rest didn't even blink. Planeptune had to be the most technologically advanced by a fair margin.
Dong held the gun and was quickly surprised by the number of functions. The possibility of continuous fire, single fire, rays, or bullets, and all of this was just displayed on the screen. If anything in their arsenal was going to be sic-fic, it was this weapon. He quickly began to test shooting options and destroyed targets without remorse. No recoil, a great rate of fire, and massive damage.
"Honestly, it's the best gun I've ever seen in my life." - Dong said, handing the gun back to its owner - "Although I'm a bit worried about the cost."
"It costs twice as much as all the previous ones combined." - said the Lastationian.
"Yes." - the rest of the people added, shaking their heads.
"Honestly, considering the overall strategic use, a mix of Lastation and Leanbox weapons would be best for our army. We already have ammo production capabilities, and laser weapons should take a lot of pressure off our supply lines. Planeptune weapons would be a good addition to special forces. Given the lack of mages or mages on the planet, Lowee's weapons would be useless. Although if we were able to train our own mages, it could greatly diversify our combat skills." - Dong said, mostly to himself as the others listened.
Suddenly, a large pillar of light appeared in the body of water.
"This pillar of light is a sign of a dimensional passage opening. In other words, the GA Navy has arrived." - Cave said, forestalling Dong, who was about to ask.
=location: airspace, Fortress Shield, 24 days after invasion=
IF sat in what the Earthlings, or Terrans, called the F-16, the two-seat version. It was said to be the fastest transport available for their main fortress in this world. She was supposed to meet there with representatives of the UEG. So she talked to the pilot on the way.
"So how old are you?" - asked the pilot nicknamed Maverick.
"Don't you know that you don't ask women about their age?" - replied IF.
"And men for their wages. Although, given the war, wages no longer exist." - replied Maverick.
"How come wages don't exist anymore?"
"Since the war broke out, the government has nationalized everything. From building ships to harvesting potatoes. Everything is rationed, and everything available goes to the war effort."
"This is quite a radical approach."
"We didn't have the ability to grab hostile forces in one place and annihilate them there with overlapping attacks from everything we have in our arsenal. Nationalization of everything was needed to survive. Given that most of the current government are former democracies, they should start slowly getting things back to normal after the war."
"But why is most personnel of the current government from democratic countries?"
"Because there is more decentralization of power, so relatively fewer VIPs were killed in the attack. In addition, compared to dictatorships, people there are more competent, as skills count more than loyalty, and there is less corruption. At least in most cases. Back to the first question, how old are you?"
"27."
At this, Maverick whistled and said - "Nice. If you keep at it, you'll probably hit a hundred years or more."
"Actually, we don't expect death from natural causes until around 150 years old, and we maintain high physical fitness until we are 120 years old."
"Some technology to extend life?"
"Correct. During Console War-"
Suddenly, Maverick burst out laughing - "You named war after consoles. ha! Let the squadron guys hear it!"
"It was the bloodiest conflict in our history. I would advise you not to laugh at him." - IF said in a deadly tone while checking the weapon loudly.
"Sorry!" - Maverick said quickly, not wanting to upset the GA representative - "But from the name, I thought it was like Pig War, or those random invasions."
"Have you made accidental invasions?" - IF's anger suddenly turned to curiosity.
"Yes." - said Marverik - "Switzerland has either crossed the border 3 times or shot a bullet into Liechtenstein. Poles once accidentally occupied a church in the Czech Republic. And those are just the ones I know about."
"What about this Pig War?"
"Paranoia+angry farmer+guys forgot to set boundaries+general who was an idiot and almost had a tragedy. If they restore the internet and the servers, if they can be restored, I'll show you a video about it." - replied Maverick - "The War of the Bucket might be next."
"And it is we who strangely call our armed conflicts. What's next, War for Bananas, War for some sport?"
"We have Football War."
IF was silent for a moment, then said - "Seriously?"
"Yes." - replied Maverick.
"And this was some kind of accidental invasion?"
"It was actually a full-fledged war with hundreds of dead on both sides. I don't remember the details, but it was about some dictators and immigrants."
Shortly thereafter, the F-16 landed at the Shield Fortress airfield, where the IF was collected by a group of guards from UEG special forces. A new unit uniting former Special Forces members who were annihilated during the invasion and could not be reformed to their original state. The first real military unit representing the entire planet at once and walking propaganda.
They quickly escorted IF to a tent where she was to meet high-ranking officials who were also representatives of the UEG. One of the soldiers told her to wait a moment and take a seat. After a few minutes, IF heard footsteps entering the tent. In fact, four people entered the tent.
"Hello Miss IF." - said the only woman in the group - "I am Dominika Sikorska, chairwoman of the UEG's temporary council. From the left are Generals Janusz Kowalski, commanding the contingent sent to this dimension, General Carlos Matsinhe, commander of the logistics department and General Ulari Valk, commander-in-chief of all UEG armed forces."
"It's good to know that not everyone in the multiverse is a murderous monster out to murder us." - Janusz said.
"Actually, most dimensions I know of are friendly." - said I.F.
"And how many do you know?" - Carlos asked.
"There's Ultrademension and Superdemension, which are dimensions parallel to ours and that's why we have counterparts there." - said IF - "Although there are also small differences. Ultrademension is less technologically advanced and we have our younger versions there, while Superdemension is built quite differently. Instead of standard continents surrounded by water, they have floating continents."
"Flying, meaning they float in the air?" - Ulari asked.
"Yes." - replied IF - "At first I didn't want to believe it, but then MAGES. took us there on vacation. It was an interesting experience shortly after the Zero-Demension crisis, so it was possible to relax. Just to be clear, Zero-Demension doesn't exist anymore, and even then it was post-apocalyptic."
"Anyway." - Dominika interrupted them - "Why don't you start by telling us about your dimension, and we'll do the same about ours."
"All right." - said IF, which was followed by a conversation about their dimensions for several hours. Although IF introduced Gameindustry in 15 minutes, Earth with hundreds of countries and thousands of different ethnicities before the invasion stretched out a lot. Before the end of the (calendar) day, the representatives began to return to their nations.
=location: Shield Fortress, 27 days after invasion=
There were two rows of soldiers in the Shield Fortress, one consisting of UEG soldiers, and the other of GA soldiers. In the middle, there was a stole with CPU White Heart, CPU Purple Heart, CPU Green Heart, CPU Black Heart, General Janusz Kowalski, General Ulari Valk, Ambassador Vakhtang Markarian, and the President of UEG Interim Council Dominika Sikorska. There was a piece of paper on the table on which all the people present had signed. On behalf of their governments, they signed the principles of the Interdimensional Alliance, which was created with 2 goals. To protect the life of all sentient beings and to annihilate anyone who decided to undertake such acts.
When the paper was signed and the formation of the Interdimensional Alliance was announced, the gathered soldiers started shouting with happiness as if they had just won the war. Teran is no longer a lonely fight for survival, but a war with a purpose and visible chances of victory.
What next dimensions and when should I add them? I'm open to suggestions, but there are a few rules. First, nothing about space travel. So Expanse and Dragon Ball, Mass Effect, and the like are out. There's a reason for this within history, but I won't reveal it yet.
But Sic-Fic and Fantasy can be, eg. Black Clower, Lord of The Rings, C&C Red Alert, Attack on Titan(Rumbling against monsters is super effective.). But I will leave the proposal to you and try to write at least a few.
Also, keep in mind that different degrees of invasion will have different effects.
Alliance destroys the invasion force with nukes before they attack another dimension and suddenly recruiting is harder but there are far more resources available. On the other hand, if the invasion is already underway, there's no telling if they'll be able to salvage anything from this dimension.
