Chapter 4 - Heroic Servants
I don't understand this dimension. Heroes, kings, generals, or even gods summoned to fight for some artifact, the Holy Grail if I remember correctly. Magic time travel because someone planned to annihilate the history of humanity, supposedly King Solomon. And why are so many of our historical/legendary heroes' counterparts women?
Interview with the Legionnaire, "Death Angle", AW 23
=location: Broken Island, 43 days after invasion=
Broken Island was another island with the ability to open a portal, but it had a problem. She was all broken and literally falling apart. As a result, only the area within a radius of 5 kilometers from the center was considered safe and many special units and 20 new hand-held nuclear weapon launchers were deployed there. Additionally, a fleet of 12 GA airships is stationed there, and a large air force is ready to respond from a nearby island. Currently, the attempt to open the portal was failing.
"Fuck!" - one of the engineers shouted - "Why won't this shit work?"
"Calm down." - said its commander, Major MASA[1] - "We just need to recalibrate it. I'm sure we'll manage."
"Can you speak freely, sir?" - another engineer asked. MASA simply nodded and the engineer continued -"I don't think it does anything. If the state of this island and our activation issues mean anything, that dimension must be lost."
"We're still getting signals, so there are survivors out there." - said MASA - "If the dimension was completely dead, we wouldn't get anything. For all we know, it may have some element or technology that can help in further combat. Besides, if our agreements with Global Union are any indication, then giving them an empty world to do whatever they want with it might bring more countries to our side."
"What?" - one of the officers asked - "Are we just supposed to give them the whole planet to help us? After all, we spill blood at the front without such luxuries, and these imperialists are just supposed to get the whole planet!"
"I know how you feel, but that's how politics works." - Said a new person entering the room. It was CPU Candidate of Lastation, Black Sister Uni - "Unfortunately, Global Union's industrial potential is currently the greatest we know of, so you'll have to get over it."
"Um, lady Uni." - one of the officers said suddenly.
"Yes?" - Uni asked.
"Something is going on with this dimension." - said the officer - "I don't know what, but the energy indicators are starting to increase."
"I have a preliminary analysis." - another officer said - "This is some form of space-time distortion. It seems something similar to when CPU Kurome tried to crash its dimension on us."
"Energy is increasing and... has dropped to normal levels?" - said the surprised officer - "Yes. Energy is back to normal."
"And we were able to track down the positions to open the portal." - said the engineer - "We can open it immediately."
"I see." - Uni said - "Then open the passage as soon as we gather a team to pass through."
"ALERT!" - the officer shouted suddenly - "Multiple signatures of monsters have appeared on the radar. From Bits to Flame Birds, pretty much anything that can fly. Distance 50 kilometers! The number... over 200,000!"
"How did they evade detection!?" - shouted Major.
"It's probably the same stealth technique they used in Berlin at the start of the invasion." - the engineer said.
"Wait a minute." - interrupted the officer - "I found a CPU rank signature in the monster line. According to the data, it's... CFW Magic."
There was silence in the command room. Everyone in GA, which is most of the staff here, knew what the CFW were doing and how they died in Hyperdemension. The small number of UEG officers who had learned how to operate GA equipment had heard from their colleagues about the CFW threat. But it only lasted a second, intermittent by a sudden flash.
Uni entered her CPU form and began issuing orders - "Summon everyone to battle stations! All atomic launchers are to target these monsters immediately! Send notification immediately to all air forces in the area and ask for backup! Call on CyberConnect2, she will make first contact with whoever is on the other side and convince them to help! Major MASA, take command and I'll go face CFW Magic!"
"Yes, ma'am." - replied MASA - "But is it wise to send just her and ask these new ones for support?"
"The politicians are not here, and the rest of the officers will be busy fighting." - said Uni - "CC2 is the only person currently available to represent IA. And we must increase our island strength immediately or we will be overwhelmed and they will be attacked. That's it."
And the CPU flew away to fight.
"You heard our lady people." - said MASA - "Activate this portal and bring all available information to the tactical table. Let the fleet lower to 300 meters above sea level. Divide it in half and place it on both flanks, above the water. The atomic weapons are to wait for my signal to fire. We will destroy them as we have done before."
"YES, SIR!" - answered the officers and quickly got to work.
Meanwhile, CFW Magic noticed the change in the position of the fleet and immediately knew that her horde of monsters had been spotted. She pulled off her army camouflage cloak and ordered the attack. Horde will cover the distance in 10-15 minutes. She herself thought about joining in the front, but she noticed one black light flying towards her at jet speed. She completely ignored the attacking horde that tried to attack her, but only missing or hitting their own. Magic ordered them to ignore this enemy and continue their assault on the enemy army. Several beams of golden energy flew toward her, but the quick shield blocked the attack.
"I don't remember you using an energy shield." - CPU Candidate Uni said - "But you're also bluer. At least it fits, because when I send you to the afterlife one more time, you'll fall into the water."
"If I remember correctly, you needed 8 CPUs and a dozen Makers to defeat me." - said Magic - "Do you really think you stand a chance with me alone? When I became stronger than before thanks to my Goddess Arfoire's alliance with the rest of the great gods, Tzeentch gave me immense magical power."
"So Deity of Sin became subject to another god?"
"How dare you insult my goddess!?" - Magic screamed and lunged at Uni with her scythe. However, she managed to dodge the blow easily and fired a series of shots into Magic's back. Unfortunately, it didn't deal any damage as a magic shield like the Caeruleum faction shielded it.
"If she's not subject to this Tzeentch thing, then what's the destroyer of worlds doing on their side?" - Uni continued, unfazed by the attack.
Magic turned and said - "Chaos Gods like Tzeentch have thousands of destroyed species under them from millions of planets transformed into Trillions, no, Quadrillions of their minions. Accepting my lady into their ranks will increase her strength to eventually lead to the rebirth of Gameindustry and countless other planets. And then..."
She had to stop her tirade abruptly because of the energy blast sent from Uni. Magic had stabilized, but now she had several marks all over her body. Seeing this, Uni smiled and said - "No matter how strong they are, as Neptune would say, the main characters always win in the end. By the way, since our last one, I've also grown in strength, and Share is at the highest level ever. Anyway, feel it for yourself."
And Uni fired another beam of energy at Magic, which this time blocked it with her scythe. As soon as it was over, Magic charged at Uni, who dodged and started shooting. From a distance, it looked like blue light chasing black, with occasional flashes of other colors. You could say that if it wasn't for the seriousness of the situation, it would be a great light show.
"Major, enemy forces will be within range of the main guns in 60 seconds." - said the officer.
"All right." - said Major MASA - "How is the portal?"
"We can activate immediately." - said the engineer.
"CC2?" - asked MASS.
"Come in, explain the situation, and ask for reinforcements, or they'll have a demon invasion." - CC2 said.
"Then I wished you good luck." - said MASA - "Activate the portal."
"Activating the portal." - said the engineer. A pillar of light appeared in front of the command tent and CC2 entered through it.
"Enemy forces within range in 30 seconds."
"What is the status of our ground forces?"
"50% are already in place, including all our nuclear weapons. Barriers ready to activate."
The next seconds were waiting for the enemy to come within range of the weapon. MASA recalled a moment when he served in Console Wars. When he was younger and won victories against Planeptune's enemies, be they other nations or monsters. Had it not been for this crisis, he would probably have retired by now, in a small cottage in the countryside, but not too far from the capital.
"Enemy forces within range in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. The enemy within range!"
"Open fire!"
The main guns from the 2 Lowee cruisers and 2 Leanbox frigates opened fire. Railguns and Magic cannons started hitting the horde of monsters. The crew was targeting larger monsters that smaller guns might not be able to deal with, and ground forces would have a hard time fighting with. Volley after volley, dozens of these monsters were killed, but the horde didn't even notice.
=location: Chaldea Security Organization=
"I have no idea what happened to you guys." - said Dr. Romani Archaman as he looked at Fujimaru Ritsuke and her/his counterpart. Everything was the same from a medical point of view, except for the gender. Additionally, his memories, and that of pretty much everyone in Chaldea, were mixed up and no one remembered which was real and which was fake. If any of them are fake.
"Well then, it's nothing to worry about." - the female Fujimaru said - "We now have 2 masters instead of one. This will help us a lot."
"Especially with only Final Singularity left." - said the male Fujimaru.
"But how shall we address you?" - Romani asked.
"The doctor is right, senpais." - Mash said.
"Then call me Fujimaru and her Ritsuka." - said the male Fujimaru.
"I like this plan." - Ritsuka supported it.
"All right." - said Romani - "Then I welcome you back to Chaldea."
At that moment, a light suddenly appeared in the room, blinding everyone for a moment. Mash instinctively equipped her armor and positioned herself between the light and the others in the room, ready to attack at any second. After a moment of waiting, a girl in a white and green outfit with ears and a tail came out of the light. Then they said - "Hi. I am CyberConnect2. I'm from another dimension."
=location: Broken Island=
"The hostile forces have come within range of our atomic weapons." - said the officer - "Launch 6 nukes on the flanks, 4 in the center, and keep the last 4 on standby." - MASA said. A moment later, huge holes appeared on his tactical display, where he saw all the forces under his command and the advancing horde, and the holograms themselves became unstable. After a while, the display returned to normal, and the number of monsters was halved. For a moment there was a cry of success, but calm soon returned. A small morale-boosting victory, but the battle was still going on.
"Energy buildup in some enemy units!" - said the officer - "They're about to shoot."
"Activate shields." - MASA ordered. Energy shields covered the entire island, while the ships were shielded by a shield from 2 ships supporting Planeptune.
"The shields took a hit. They are holding." - said the officer.
"Prepare all cannons and rocket launchers, including nukes. Wait for them to approach and lower our shields on my mark and turn them back on as soon as possible. Order Lastation corvettes to prepare laser cannons. It's going to be a close-quarters fight, probably CQB distance."
Meanwhile, Uni continued her shoot-and-run tactics against the Magic.
"Doesn't she ever get tired?" - said the annoyed CPU, firing more shots at CFW. But Magic successfully dodged them all and made another attempt to hit Uni with her scythe, which Uni dodged. And they've done so hundreds of times.
"Worried about your toy soldiers?" - Magic asked contemptuously. Trying another attack.
"A bit." - Uni admitted as she fired more shots - "But Major MASA is a seasoned veteran and should be able to handle a bunch of monsters like the ASIC soldiers in Planeptune."
"Then he will have the pleasure of being the second person I kill today." - Magic said as she flew towards Uni.
Uni opted for a more tactical approach this time, pulled a flashbang from her dimensional bag, and risked it until the last moment before dodging. The flashbang exploded into Magic's face, stopping her momentarily as she instinctively rubbed her eyes.
Uni quickly pulled out the Brave Cannon and fired a shot at Magic. It was a direct hit, breaking the Magic Shield and dealing heavy damage, sending her into the ocean. However, Uni knew from previous fights how tough the CFWs were, so she fired again and again to deal as much damage as possible.
Magic managed to dodge after the 4th shot and screamed, firing slashes from her scythe. Uni began to dodge them but didn't notice the approaching CFW until it was too late to dodge. She eventually blocked the scythe with her rifle, but Magic, being stronger than Uni, managed to snatch the rifle from her hand and quickly attacked, slashing her wings.
Temporarily unable to fly, CPU decided to instead pull out another flashbang and throw it behind her as she controlled her fall to grab her weapon. Magic, seeing the same grenade, instinctively stepped back. Immediately after the explosion, she dove like a comet behind Uni, who had just grabbed her rifle and started firing. Magic decided to take hits on her magic shield and continued charging.
However, when she was about to deliver the finishing blow, it was blocked by a rapier.
"You'll mind if I interfere." - CPU Black Heart said as she landed a roundhouse kick that knocked Magic back. She then continued the attack with her Volcano Dive, but Magic managed to recover and dodged the attack, after which she kept her distance and assessed her situation. Black Sister had already recovered and her wings were back to normal, but there was still a trickle of blood. Magic decided that an attack while Black Heart was healing her sister could allow her to decapitate two heads in one fell swoop.
But Uni just ignored the wound and started shooting at Magic. She quickly dodged and tried to get closer, but Noire intercepted her. The fight was about to get much more complicated.
=location: Chaldea Security Organization=
After explaining the situation, the people of Chaldea almost panicked. Romani began to voice his concerns loudly.
"I have one Servant and like 20 humans, most things barely work, the end of humanity is still due in a few months, and now we have a whole war with billions of monsters, several hundred thousand of which are headed this way right now. The universe seems to really want us dead."
Suddenly, one of the scientists entered the room and said - "Mr. Romani. CHALDEAS has changed and now shows that the extinction of humanity would take place in 2100."
There was silence for a moment before everyone suddenly shouted - "WHAT!?"
"But how is that possible!" - Mash said surprised but happy.
"I'm betting whatever made us suddenly have two of the same person but different genders have led to a change in your CHALDEAS." - CC2 said.
"But this is a great opportunity for us." - said Ritsuka - "Now that the extinction of humanity has been pushed back by these few decades, we can calmly help you, and with your support, the last fight will be even easier."
"That is if we somehow survive this demon attack." - Romani said - "We don't even have anything to summon another Servant, let alone an army."
"NO." - Said Fujimaru - "We have 7 artifacts that can be used as a catalyst."
"7 artifacts?" - Mash looked surprised as CC2 just listened not knowing what to say or even what was going on.
"Although perhaps it would be better to say that we have 7 copies of the same artifact." - Ritsuka added, understanding what her counterpart was up to.
"No way!" - shouted Romani - "We need Grales. Besides, no one has ever tried to summon a servant using the Grail. Who knows what might happen?"
"If the monsters get to you, they will be of no use to you." - CC2 said.
Seeing that there were no arguments against it, Romani sighed and said - "Okay. You can start the ritual immediately. We'll see what comes out."
=location: Broken Island=
The ground forces were engaged in heavy fighting. While the rocket attack was successful, it also allowed about 5,000 monsters to get in. While this came as no surprise to the defenders, their magic barriers made them much harder to kill, often requiring support from an armored vehicle's cannon or grenade launcher. However, all the troops gathered here were elite, so casualties were relatively light. Only 43 were dead and 127 were wounded in those 5,000 monster kills.
But outside the barrier, more than 60,000 monsters were still waiting, ready to kill each and every one of them, regardless of their own lives. The ships still held a small gap through which groups of creatures flew in every now and then, which fell almost immediately from the Lastations corvettes' fire. The ground forces didn't have such advanced barriers, so it was just waiting to see what would come first, the cover would fall, or reinforcements would arrive.
The cover fell first.
Rifts began to appear in the shield, which quickly grew to full holes through which monsters began to pour in. The soldiers immediately opened fire as soon as they came within range, but it didn't help much, and thousands of monsters began pouring in through the gaps in the barrier.
From consecrated bullets to magic attacks, everything flew across the island as soldiers used whatever they could for cover. The monsters charged and often managed to reach the line of soldiers, which led to hand-to-hand combat. Plasma blades, axes, hammers, and whatever they had were used. But the losses began to mount rapidly.
"Take 3 armored cars and shoot on this hole." - said Major MASA - "Take 50 soldiers from this position and transfer them to our medical post. Have them fire up the smaller shield generator there. How is our fleet doing?"
"Monsters managed to break through in a few places, but these were quickly patched by Planeptune ships." - said the officer - "3 Lastations corvettes suffered damage and monsters boarded one Leanbox ship, but personnel losses are minimal."
"They penetrated the defense perimeter!" - shouted one of the soldiers outside the command tent as he started firing. A moment later, something slammed into the tent, collapsing part of it. MASA was able to recognize Killachine.
But as soon as he saw it, a red pyrone appeared, striking the mechanical abomination into the main body. MASA managed to see a person in metal armor with red markings and a two-handed sword. That person made a series of blows and data appeared in the place of Killachine.
"Hey." - said the knight, pointing to MASA - "Are you that Major MASA?"
"Yes."
"Order the soldiers to lower their shields. Our guys want to show off their Noble Phantasm."
Considering that his life was just saved by an unknown knight with powers comparable to, if not greater than Makers', he most likely came from the dimension to which they sent CC2. And the cover was falling anyway, so he quickly agreed.
The monsters almost immediately began to charge at the now exposed position of the ground forces. But they were met with a huge number of attacks that were as deadly as they were varied, quickly eliminating the monsters.
"Who are you?" - asked MASS.
The knight then took off his helmet and said - "I'm Mordred. One of the knights of the round table and son of King Arthur. Currently one of the many Heroic Spirits summoned to defend the multiverse against these dudes."
Meanwhile, Uni and Noire continued to battle Magic. The fight was slightly in Magic's favor, mainly due to the magic shields that allowed her to take most attacks unscathed.
"Someone seems to get tired quickly." - said Magic - "But we can fight like this for a while when the monsters will massacre all sol-"
Suddenly, she heard numerous explosions and saw a light show. When it was over, her horde of monsters had evaporated. CFW just stared.
"What the f-?"
"EX Multi Buster!" - Uni shouted, interrupting Magic. Before she could react, she was hit and knocked back. As she regained control of her flight, she saw Black Heart coming towards her and barely managed to block her rapier. Knowing that after destroying her monsters, warships and many more would come to attack her, Magic sent a magic pulse that rejected Black Heart and began to flee.
Uni was about to rush after her, but Nage Noire said - "Let her get away."
"Why?!" - Uni shouted.
"We 2 can't handle her, especially with these new powers. Plus, who knows how many more of these monsters they might just have on a neighboring island, maybe even another CFW. And we must assess our losses and start a diplomatic meeting with representatives of that dimension, and oversee the transport from the island."
=location: Pleiku city, 45 days after invasion =
Although most of the fighting on Earth had stopped, there were still groups of monsters holed up somewhere and continuing to attack in some places. Only where there have been even more serious forces is in India, China, Indonesia, and all the countries in between. As it was the largest population center before the war, it was also there that the largest number of monsters appeared.
The Vietnamese city of Pleiku was one such place. The UEG left the recapture of this region in the hands of the former national troops, the 64th Infantry Regiment of the Vietnam People's Ground Forces. However, in addition to that, they were to test the new Plasma Acoustic Shield System (PASS), which was placed on the truck chassis. Recent upgrades have shown it to be effective against magic-based attacks with some upgrades, but how it will perform in combat was yet to be seen.
"Sergeant." - said one of the soldiers - "Are you sure it's a good idea to test this PASS system here?"
"Don't be afraid Khan." - said Sergeant Nguyen to Private - "We will not rely on this thing. Just do what you always do when we encounter these monsters and it'll be just f-, TAKE COVER!"
The soldiers instinctively hid behind whatever was in the vicinity as the toxin ball approached. Seconds before impact, PASS activated, and for a split second a white barrier appeared which blocked the orb and disappeared. The toxins evaporated 90% after the collision, and the rest fell to the ground, not doing any harm to the soldiers.
"I take back anything wrong I thought or thought about this system before." - Khan said loudly.
"Sir!" - shouted one of the soldiers, looking behind the shed - "Monsters are coming from this side. Unknown type."
"Fall back and prepare to repel the attack. Line formation! Call for reinforcements!" - Sergeant Nguyen shouted. The troops immediately retreated and formed up with the STV-380 in their hands and one Milkor MGL in between them. 4 APCs, Type 63, formed up, followed by the PASS system and 2 trucks. Altogether, nearly 100 soldiers awaited the arrival of the monsters. Terrible screams were heard, and moments later they appeared.
They were bipedal creatures with green leather, with a helmet and armor made of... something. They held axes and hammers far too big for an ordinary man. Sergeant Nguyen ordered to open fire and bullets flew towards these abominations. Despite another toxic round, the Vietnamese kept their formation, especially thanks to their own overhead plasma shield. Monsters had no such luxuries and were quickly torn apart.
As soon as the fight was over, Sergeant Nguyen began issuing orders - "Tell the command that we have eliminated a group of new monsters. Let them send men to take the bodies and test their weaknesses. Also, report that the PASS system is working without problems."
The clash in Pleiku continued for several more hours as the soldiers of humanity methodically cleared street after street. Finally, a strange biological thing was also found. The best comparison would be a beanstalk with people locked inside or at least their remains.
New monsters were created from them.
=location: Marley HQ, 47 days from invasion=
"'Rumbling won't be a threat soon.', 'Island Devils save British ships.', 'Queen Paradis agrees to control other nations.', 'De-Titanization of Eldians has begun.'" - said General Calvi, quoting various newspaper headlines - "This is now the number 1 topic among all nations. Not only that, there are numerous voices of support from some Mid-East Alliance countries and Hizuru to allow Paradis to join the Global Union. Some countries are even openly sympathetic to Paradis. Can you explain it to me?"
At this, Commander Theo Magath raised his hand and said - "General, if I may."
Calvi just nodded, and Magath stood up and began to speak - "The people have always been taught about the monstrosity of the Eldian Empire, and how much they must be watched over or even exterminated. But now, the remnants of that same Empire announce that they want to get rid of their most powerful weapons, save the ships and crews of other nations, and willingly submit to the control of other nations. It's like telling your kids that your neighbor is always stealing and wants to hurt you, but when you approach him, he offers you tea. Of course, it will take much longer, but the trend will continue, especially since in the last hundred years we have been the only ones actively using the power of the Titans to conquer and colonize other nations. In addition, a large part of our army is non-Marleyans. For most of the world, we are now the Eldian Empire."
"And what would you do with it?" - asked one of the generals.
"It will take us a long time to change our image, and our ceasefire with the Mid-East Alliance may hold out for a month or two just because of the arrival of IA. Paradis, on the other hand, is currently fortified and industrialized by IA. Truth be told, for now, peace should be negotiated with the Mid-East Alliance through IA and GU, even with some concessions. Then we need to reorganize our army and expand our armed forces, mainly the air force. Introducing conscription among the Marleyans and repairing the fleet after recent losses should also be high on our priority list."
"With all due respect." - interrupted one of the admirals - "The Fleet should take precedence. Our losses in the vicinity of Fili-Malai were substantial, and the rest of the 3rd Fleet will not be able to patrol their previously assigned areas. Additionally, the Battle of the Interannian Sea and the Paradis expeditions were very costly."
"That's right, but the biggest problem is how far behind we are technologically compared to other nations." - Magath said - "Even if we build more ships, they will still be outclassed by other nations. We gained the upper hand only because of the defeat of the Arabian fleet at the Suez Canal, which was given to us by the Beast Titan. Had we fought at sea, it would have been a Pyrrhic victory at best."
"It will be a problem." - Calvi said - "Okay. Repairing the fleet to a state capable of patrolling our waters will be a priority, but then we shift the focus to the air force and technological development."
"If I may, General." - Zeke said.
"Zeke, our Genius Child, go ahead and speak." - Calvi said.
At this, Zeke stood up and said - "While I agree with the development of our conventional weapons, we will need time for this. And even then, technologically IA is centuries ahead. Even Paradis has developed equipment to fight the Titans better than anything we have and with the support of Britain and other allies it will be relatively easy to adapt it to anti-human fights. That's why we should join IA."
Everyone was momentarily shocked and looked at Zeke, as he continued.
"Joining them will allow us to adapt our tactics and strategies to theirs. In addition, thanks to this, we will also be able to access their technology, or at least understand the basics of their operation. With luck, maybe even samples."
"I see." - Calvi said - "But how are we going to do that when we're at war with the Mid-East Alliance."
"This is where Commander Magath's plan to broker IA and GU to achieve peace with the Mid-East Alliance comes in." - Zeke continued - "We can make that a condition of our joining IA."
"I still don't know how we can convince them to give us their technology." - said one of the Generals.

"And certainly cheaper than our current fights with the Mid-East Alliance." - Calvi said, then closed his eyes, thinking for a moment - "I'll see what I can do. Is there anyone against it?"
None of the generals, admirals, or other military leaders spoke.
"Then we will continue with this plan. This meeting is deemed to be over." - said Calvi, then all the commanders in

"So you're Female Titan, Annie Leonhart." - one of the soldiers asked.
"That's right, Sergeant Ford." - Annie said, surprising the soldiers present.
"How did you-"
"I heard and felt everything from this crystal." - Annie explained - "By the way, Christa, or rather Historia, congratulates you on becoming queen."
"Thanks." - said History - "But you know what awaits you now."
"I am to betray Marley for Paradis."
"Not completely." - said Ford - "We want you to serve directly under the command of IA. In return, you'll get a full amnesty after the war."
Annie thought quickly and said - "I have one condition."
"You're not very in a negotiating position." - said the second soldier, Private Ric - "This collar has an explosive charge. One wrong move and BOOM."
"Besides, we can always give your powers to someone else." - said a member of the Paradis Military Police.
"I want you to make sure my Father is safe." - Annie said - "If Marley finds out I'm fighting for IA, he'll be punished. Take him to Earth or Gamindustri, it doesn't matter as long as he's safe."
After a moment of silence, Ford said - "I'll talk to my superiors about this, but until then, you have to listen to us. You create some problems and there will be consequences."
