Chapter VIII
"Mr. Northman, don't you know it's unpolite to show up unanounced at a ladys doorstep? At anyones doorstep really?" I asked flirtaciously.
"Actually I do know but if I had called ahead I would have missed this incredible sight Miss Stackhouse," he answered with a smirk. I just rolled my eyes.
"Come on in Eric. I would offer you refreshments but since I'm not on the menu I'll refrain from that." I invited him inside knowing he would either see it as very brave or very stupid on my side. I hoped it wouldn't be the latter.
"Pity." He smirked again stepping into my kitchen.
"Would you like to join me in the living-room? I was going to watch Buffy the Vampire-Slayer. It's a silly show but it's funny." I asked him making myself a cup of tea. "And while watching it you can tell me what brought you here."
"I guess that's acceptable since I showed up unanounced as you pointed out." he answered raising an eyebrow.
We settled into the living-room. Both on the loveseat since it were the only seats directed at the TV. The other seats were arranged for conversation. I put the show on and sat just a few inches from Eric.
He just watched as I proceeded as if he were an everyday guest. Which he was, in my timeline. I felt very much at ease with the six-foot Viking in my living-room.
"So Eric, what brought you here? Do you need any help or were you just curious?" I asked during the opening credits.
"Let's just say you left an impression Miss Stackhouse and since you are obviously no cop I'd like to know how you knew about the raid." He answered. I got the feeling he was choosing his words very carefully.
"Hm. If I tell you my secret, I need your promise as a Viking that you'll honor my wishes. I don't want you to try to use me in any way. I don't like double-standards. If you need anything from me all you need to do is ask." I answered. I wasn't going to tell him about this whole time-travelling thing. Yet. But he could at least know about my telepathy.
He looked at me weighing his options which were: simply killing me or agree to my stipulations. I hoped I really had made an impression.
"How do you know that I'm a Viking?" he asked. I didn't answer.
"Fine. I promise to honor your wishes Miss Stackhouse."
"I'm a telepath Mr. Northman. I knew there was an undercover cop because I could hear his thoughts." I finally said.
"So you're a telepath?" He asked. "What am I thinking right now?" There was a hungry and lustfull look on his face.
"You're lucky. I can't read vampires but I don't need to read your mind to know what you are thinking about. It shows on your face. Anyway I believe it's because you're dead and don't have any brainwaves but it's just a theory. I read humans the best. Shifters or Weres are more difficult. Demons I can only read when they want me to the same goes with fairies." I explained.
"Fairies? I haven't seen fairies in ages." He said.
Crap. I shouldn't have mentioned them. "Well, you haven't met a Southern Belle in ages either." I replied.
In that moment I felt a void approaching. "Crap." I said outloud this time. I got up and looked at Eric who was now confused. "Look I know I have some things to explain. But I need you to act as if you have known me for a long time. Just play along. Take it as my payment for the money you saved on that raid I warned you about."
He looked grim but nodded. There was a knock at my door.
This night gets better and better... What did they think? That Sookie Stackhouse didn't need any sleep? I thought closing my rope tightly not wanting to give Bill an eyefull. Eric watched on interested. Maybe he noticed I hadn't closed my rope when he arrived?
I opened my door to look at an irritated Bill but he schooled his features immediately.
"Hello Mr. Comptom." I greeted showing disaproval in my voice.
"Miss Stackhouse it's so nice to see you. I smelled a vampire on your grounds and wanted to see everything was alright." He answered with an exagerated accent which nearly made me gag.
In that moment Eric appeared out of thin air puting his arm around me. "That would be me you smelled Comptom but you knew that already, didn't you? You should at least since I'm your Sheriff but since you didn't bother to come to my office and announce your move back into my area..." Eric implied.
"And I'd like to know what you were even doing on my property or do you always trespass onto your neighbours grounds?"
Bill looked a little trapped.
"I'm sorry. I was only walking around when I came about the scent and followed it to your house. You're right Sheriff I should have recognised your scent. And I apologize for not registering myself in your office it has been a little hectic and a sudden move."
We could practically see the web of lies he was spinning.
"Well Bill everything is fine as you see and Sookie and I would like some privacy." Eric said pulling me into his side showing more intimacy between us than there really was at this point in time.
Bill nodded. "Of course. Sheriff. Miss Stackhouse." He turned around and was gone in seconds.
I closed the door and breathed a sigh of relief. I was suddenly spun around and pressed against said door. Eric pressed himself against me.
"He is still listening you know." He whispered in my ear. "I know" I whispered back breathing heavily as Eric opened my rope pushing my nightgown slowly up my thighs caressing my sides with his fingertips all the while kissing my neck and up my jaw. When his lips touched mine I couldn't hold back any longer I kissed him back moaning and nibbling at his lips the way I knew he liked. A low growl reminded me of what we were doing.
With all my willpower I pulled myself together and pushed him away. "I think he's gone now." I said still breathing heavily. I needed to remind myself constantly that he couldn't see me as an easy conquest and that Gran was sleeping in her room or I would have jumped him that instant. He just looked at me with mirth in his eyes.
"That was interesting." He said. "You have a lot to explain Miss Stackhouse. How did you know he was coming? I thought you couldn't hear vampires?" He asked raising an eyebrow. Of course he hadn't forgotten.
I hope you liked it. ;)
