Hey, guys! I know it's been a while since I last updated, but I was waiting until inspiration struck before I did another chapter of my one shot series. And, just before I went to bed last night, I got inspired, so here's a random AU for you! Thank you for all your wonderful reviews!
I'll be there for you
These five words I swear to you
When you breathe I want to be the air for you
I'll be there for you
I'd live and I'd die for you
I'd steal the sun from the sky for you
Words can't say what love can do
I'll be there for you
Tears ran down her cheeks as Caroline walked through the woods. She had just learned that her grandmother on her father's side, Lillian Forbes, had passed away, and because she had been close with her, Caroline was devastated. That was why she was here in the woods tonight, to be alone with her thoughts and possibly cry it out. She didn't want to turn off her humanity, simply because then she wouldn't be able to control the monster she would become and that part scared her.
"Are you all right, Caroline?"
That familiar accented voice brought her out of her reverie and she turned around to see Klaus standing there. Had he been following her this whole time and she didn't know? Or was it just a coincidence that he was out here the same time she was? Whatever the reason, she had a feeling that she'd find out.
"You're the one following me," she replied. "You figure it out."
"I'll take that as a no," said Klaus. "You're also upset about something, something that you just learned about."
"Yeah," said Caroline. "My mom got a call from the live-in nurse that my Grandma Lily died, and when she told me about it, I just...lost it because Grandma Lily and I were very close and it practically tore me apart."
Klaus empathized with her pain, having lost family members and knew what that kind of pain was like. Seeing that she was about to cry again, he approached her and pulled her into his arms, running his fingers through her hair. He hated to see her like this and tears stung his eyes as well. He may not have known her grandmother, but that didn't mean that he couldn't feel what Caroline was feeling at the moment.
"I know what you're going through, love," he whispered. "I've lost family members myself and the pain is unbearable, especially at first. You can try to be brave and not let it affect you, but there's always that moment where it sneaks up on you."
Caroline said nothing to that, just nodded and continued to cry into his chest. She didn't know why he was going out of his way to comfort her like this, but she saw no harm in allowing him to be her shoulder to cry on, since she definitely needed it. After a few minutes, she finally calmed down enough to step back and look into his greenish blue eyes with her blue ones.
"Thank you."
"Don't mention it, love," said Klaus. "What kind of a gentleman would I be if I didn't comfort a lady in her time of need? You have my deepest condolences, Caroline."
Caroline nodded. "It still hurts a little, but I know that she'll always watch over me." She sniffed. "There's going to be times when I want to call her on the phone, but I know that I can't because she's no longer going to be on the other end."
Klaus nodded as well. He wanted to say something else, but decided that he didn't need to, just holding her in his arms like this was enough to tell her that he was there for her if she ever needed him.
Note: Yeah, I know this is short, but I couldn't think of anything else to put here and I didn't want to sound redundant. Enjoy, lovelies, and have a great day!
