I know it's been a while since I last updated my one shot series, but seeing how it's less than a week until TVD returns, I thought I'd treat you guys to an update, another random AU. Thanks for the reviews!

She's all, she's all I ever had.
She's the air I breathe.
She's all, she's all I ever had
It's the way she makes me feel.
It's the only thing that's real.
It's the way she understands.
She's my lover, she's my friend.
And when I look into her eyes it's the way I feel inside.
Like the man I want to be.
She's all I ever need.

Guggenheim Museum, New York City, 2053

The limo pulled up outside the front entrance of the museum and the driver opened up the door, taking Caroline's hand as he helped her out of the car. She had been invited to attend a opening gala for new exhibit at the Guggenheim. While the invitation wasn't signed, the forty-year-old blonde vampire automatically knew that it was Klaus. She didn't know any other artists who had their artwork on display in perhaps one of the most famous museums in the country, so there was no doubt in her mind that Klaus was the one who set all this up.

She adjusted the hem on the blood red gown she was wearing as she made her way into the museum. Upon entry, she saw there were about fifty other people in attendance. Klaus really knows how to draw a crowd, she thought. No doubt the word about his exhibit traveled fast.

Caroline went over to the refreshment table to get something to drink and saw glasses of champagne on the table, as well as a bowl for punch, and a variety of hors d'oeuvres. It was an impressive spread and Caroline couldn't help but smile at what was there. She helped herself to a few cocktail shrimps and then went off to look at some of the paintings that were hanging on the walls. They were very impressive and Caroline, with her vampire hearing, heard a few admirers say that they felt like they had been mesmerized by the pieces. Hearing such things made her wonder if it was intentional or an exaggeration.

While she continued to look around, Caroline soon found herself in a large room alone, staring at a piece that was somewhat larger than the others. She was still staring at it when she sensed that she wasn't entirely alone anymore and looked over to see Klaus standing next to her. He returned her gaze and smiled.

"You look positively ravishing in that dress, Caroline."

His comment earned him a smile in return. "Thank you. It was included with the invitation, which brought back memories of when you invited me to the ball you hosted at your mansion in Mystic Falls forty years ago."

"I figured it might, which was why I did it," he replied. "In either case, I'm glad you're here."

"Well, considering how I've never been to the Guggenheim before, this was definitely a treat," said Caroline. "Judging from the amount of people who showed up, I'd say that this gala event is going to turn out to be quite a hit."

"True, but the event isn't for them."

"It isn't?" said Caroline. "Who's it for then?"

Klaus smiled again. "I'll give you a hint. She's blonde, about your height, and she's standing right next to me."

"Oh my God, no way," said Caroline. "This whole thing...all of this...is for me?"

"Of course," said Klaus. "Everything I've done in the years that we've known each other has been for you. You have no idea just how special you really are to me, Caroline, and I've gone to great lengths to prove it to you."

His reply rendered her speechless. This is too weird. I was invited to an event at the Guggenheim and it turns out that it was for me? I'll say this for Klaus, he definitely spared no expense in making this whole thing possible.

"You're truly an amazing man, Klaus."

"When one lives as long as I have, there is no limit to how amazing one can be." He held his hand for her when he heard the music playing from outside the room they were in. "May I have this dance, love?"

Caroline smiled and took his hand. "You certainly may."

Klaus then led her to the middle of the room and held her close to him as they swayed to the music. Being with her like this was heaven and he couldn't help but think back to when they danced at the ball at his mansion. She was just as beautiful then as she was now, even if she had only been a vampire for a year at the time. Regardless, it was at that point where he realized that she was more than just a girl that he healed with his blood. She brought out the gentleman in him and although there were times where she frustrated him to no end, he found that he could never really be angry with her.

Caroline noticed how quiet he was after a while. "You look like you're a million miles away, Klaus. What are you thinking about?"

"Forgive me, love, I didn't mean for my mind to wander," he replied. "Though, if you must know, I was thinking about the night of the ball, where we had our first dance together. We seemed to dominate the floor, and you amazed me just how well you could dance."

"That's funny, because I'm thinking about the same thing," said Caroline. "It was at that same moment that you told me that you were at the Miss Mystic Falls pageant the day I was crowned and that you wished that you could've been the one dancing with me instead of my escort."

Klaus smiled. "I wouldn't have said it if it wasn't true."

Before Caroline could reply, his lips captured her in a deep, passionate kiss. She returned it after the initial shock wore off and moaned softly against his mouth as their tongues collided. In that moment, time seemed to stand still and it was just them.

Note: Enjoy, lovelies!
