Hey, lovelies! Just got another request from mycutehamlet in her review of my latest installment and I decided to take her up on it! Thank you, mycutehamlet, your suggestions are awesome! :)

TVD 5x01 & TO 1x01 AU.

You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'coz you believed
I'm everything I am
Because you loved me

New Orleans...

Klaus stood over Elijah's body, looking at what he had done and then felt the gravity of the deed hitting him at all fronts. He had just daggered his brother, and all because he had wanted to take Marcel on alone. He hadn't considered the fact that his brother was trying to help him and instead, he thought he was trying to interfere, resorting to sticking a dagger in his chest to get him out of the way. When he couldn't look at the body anymore, Klaus went to the liquor cabinet to see if he could something to drown away his pain. However, while he was looking, a different idea crossed his mind and he took his cell phone out of his pocket, scrolling down his contact list until he found Caroline's number. She was the one person that could make him smile and laugh in the most miserable of situations and right now, this was definitely the situation that he needed the most cheering up. Hell, he didn't give a shit if he got her voice mail, as long as it made the pain he was in go away, if only temporarily.

His mind made up, Klaus pressed "SEND," placing the phone by his ear and waiting patiently as it rang.

Whitmore College...

Caroline was awakened by the sound of her phone vibrating. She picked it up and looked at the ID, thinking that Tyler had called to tell her that he was coming back after all. However, when she saw that it was Klaus, her breath caught in her throat. The weird thing was that she was just thinking about him and about what he had said to her after he saved her from the ghosts of the witches at graduation.

She looked over her shoulder and saw that Elena was finally asleep, so she quietly left the room, closing the door behind her. Once out of the room, she vamp sped to the roof of the dorm, where no one would think to find her, and answered the call before it went to voice mail.

"Hello?"

"Caroline, oh, you have no idea how good it is to hear a familiar voice on the other end."

"I swear to God, Klaus, we must be linked telepathically or something," she replied. "Just before I went to sleep, I started thinking about you. I know, I know, how pathetic am I?"

"No, love, you're not pathetic," said Klaus. "Tell me, how was your first day of college?"

Caroline sighed. "Are you sure you want to know?"

"Of course I do."

Caroline sighed again. In all honesty, she was hoping that he didn't ask, but since they were talking, she might as well indulge him. "For starters, Elena and I had this really weird roommate named Megan. Klaus, the girl must've been tipped off that we were vampires, because she had vervain water in the mini fridge. Then, when Elena and I went to this party, we couldn't cross the threshold because, being vampires, we couldn't get in unless we were invited in."

"Sounds to me like you two had quite an experience."

"I'm not finished," said Caroline. "While we were outside the place that was holding the party, Elena and I got a call from Megan and it sounds like she's in trouble. Before we can do anything, she falls out of a tree, dead. She had bite marks on her neck, which means that she was attacked by a vampire."

"A vampire?" said Klaus. "Are you sure? How could she have been attacked by a vampire when vampires can't get in places without someone inviting them in?"

"Oh, it was a vampire, no question about it," said Caroline. "And that's not the worst part. The bitch from campus security thought Megan committed suicide. Can you believe that? Elena and I clearly see evidence that she was attacked and they're ruling it a suicide. Seriously, I didn't come to college just to endure bullshit like that." She ran a hand through her hair. "What's even weirder is that Elena's dad is somehow involved. I don't know how, considering that he's dead, but he might be connected to Megan, or Megan is connected to him, or whatever."

There was then a silence and Caroline thought he had hung up on her. "Klaus? Are you still there?"

"I'm here, love. I've been listening to your every word."

"Good, because I think there's something else I should mention," she replied. "Tyler's decided not to come back."

"When did he decide this?"

"Today, apparently," said Caroline. "He didn't tell me directly, but I got a voice mail from him and he said that he was staying with the pack he was helping in Tennessee, claiming that they needed him." She sighed again, feeling tears welling up in her eyes. "Shit, why does this happen to me? What have I done to deserve this?"

"My invitation to New Orleans still stands, Caroline," said Klaus. "That one way ticket I mentioned at your graduation doesn't have an expiration date, and it's waiting for you at the airport in the event that you decide to take me up on my offer."

Caroline could detect something different in his voice. "Klaus, what's the matter? You sound different. Did something happen to you in New Orleans?"

"A former protege of mine has turned against me," said Klaus. "He's taken the city from me, claiming it for himself. I want it back, Caroline, you have no idea how much I want to take back what was rightfully mine." He took a deep breath before he said, "My anger toward Marcel has even made me dagger Elijah."

"You daggered your own brother because you're angry at this Marcel guy?" said Caroline. "Klaus, why?"

"I know, it makes no sense," said Klaus. "But, as I said, I was angry and when I'm angry, I lash out. Elijah just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Caroline nodded, even though she still didn't quite understand his reason for doing what he did, but wasn't about to ask. "Anyway, it was great to hear from you, Klaus. I feel somewhat better knowing that I can talk to you about anything and you're willing to listen to me."

"A gentleman always listens when a lady speaks her mind," said Klaus. "I'm just a phone call away if you want to call me, Caroline. Day or night, it makes no difference to me. Though, talking to you face to face would be easier."

"I know, and I promise that I'll come to New Orleans," said Caroline. "I've never been there before and I'm going to need a knowledgeable tour guide."

"I'll show you everything it has to offer," said Klaus. "I'll let you go because I don't want Elena to think you abandoned her."

Caroline nodded. "All right. Talk to you soon, Klaus."

Note: Damn, this definitely should've happened! :( Oh well, at least I was able to bring mycutehamlet's request to life. Enjoy, lovelies, and keep the Klaroline faith! True love will prevail for our couple!
