Okay, my lovelies, I'm in an updating mood today, and I thought I'd do a random AU for my one shot series. Don't ask where the idea came from, just read it as written. Thank you so much for the reviews! You have no idea how much your support means to me! :)
I'll stay with you
The walls will fall before we do
Take my hand now
We'll run forever
I can feel the storm inside you
I'll stay with you
Caroline coughed violently as she all but stumbled through the woods. She didn't know why, but she felt like her strength had been zapped and that her body was on fire. As she continued to make her way through the area, she wondered just what this was, since she couldn't get sick as a vampire. What the hell was making her feel so weak? Was it the blood bag she drank from earlier today? No, that couldn't been it, since she always made sure the blood was fresh when she drank it. Whatever this was, Caroline didn't like it.
Before long, she came to a clearing, where she felt dizzy and leaned against a tree for support. The dizziness got to the point where she resorted to sitting down with her back against the same tree. I don't know what the hell is causing this, she thought. This morning, I was fine and now, I feel like someone or something is draining me of my strength. She got her phone out of her purse and went through her list of contacts, stopping when she got to Klaus' number. He seems to be my only hope and even though I don't understand what's happening to me, something tells me that I have to count on him.
However, Caroline never got to dial his number because she fainted right where she was, her phone dropping out of her hand and landing on the ground next to her.
At that same moment, Klaus entered the clearing and when he saw Caroline unconscious against the tree, he vamp sped over to her, kneeling next to her. "Caroline? Caroline, love, are you all right? If you can hear me, wake up."
No answer. He felt her forehead with his hand and pulled it away, feeling how hot it was. Shit, she was burning up. But, that was impossible, right? Vampires didn't get sick, and if they did, it was very rare. Of course, the only thing Klaus was concerned with at the moment was getting Caroline to a safe place where he could figure out how to help her. His mind made up, he gently picked her up and looked down at her. She was pale, hardly any color at all in either her lips or her skin.
I can't let this go on, he thought. There has to be a way to help her and damn it, I'm going to find out. Hang in there, Caroline, and you'll be back to your vibrant, radiant self in no time. He kissed her forehead, ignoring the heat against his lips. "I'll do whatever it takes to help you, Caroline. Just try to fight it in the meantime."
Mikaelson Mansion – Later...
When Klaus arrived back at the mansion, Elijah greeted him and before he could say a word, he noticed that his brother was holding Caroline in his arms. He felt her forehead and took a step back. "Good God, Niklaus, she's burning up."
"I know, brother, which is why I brought her here," said Klaus. "I need to figure out what is making her so sick. I know that I should've brought her to the hospital, but I couldn't risk her dying before they discovered the cause, whatever the bloody hell that is."
Elijah nodded and didn't get to reply because Klaus walked past him, carrying Caroline upstairs to one of the guest rooms in the mansion, laying her down on the bed. He then went to the bathroom and got a basin, which he then filled with water, dipped a washcloth in it and placed it on Caroline's forehead. Shit, he hated seeing her like this and it was tearing him apart that she had gotten like this.
Groaning, Caroline opened her eyes and saw that she wasn't in the woods anymore, but on a bed in the Mikaelson mansion. She then noticed that Klaus was sitting next to her, his eyes wild with worry. "Klaus?"
Hearing her voice calling to him, he looked at her. "Shhh. Don't talk, love, save your strength."
"What's happening to me?"
"I don't know," said Klaus. "But, mark my words, I will find out." He gently stroked her face with his finger. "In the meantime, try to rest."
Caroline weakly nodded. "Thank you."
Klaus smiled and watched as she closed her eyes again. No sooner did she fall asleep than Elijah walked in, a piece of paper in his hand and looking every bit as concerned as he did when Klaus entered the mansion.
"Niklaus, I think I may have found out what caused Caroline's sudden illness."
"You have? Tell me, brother, what have you found out?"
"I made some phone calls and I learned that the blood bank at the hospital had to recall some of the blood it was using," said Elijah. "Apparently, most of the bags were contaminated and there is a warning being issued to dispose of them. I think that Caroline may have ingested some of the contaminated blood and didn't realize it."
Klaus' eyes widened and stood up, looking at Caroline and then back at Elijah. "Is there a way to cure her?"
"There is," said Elijah. "She needs blood, Niklaus, fresh blood that will counteract the contamined blood that she ingested."
"I'll give her my blood then," said Klaus. "It's cured her before and there's a chance that it will work again." He looked at Caroline and added, "I can't lose her, Elijah, I refuse to lose her, not when she's come to mean so much to me."
Elijah nodded. "You really do care for her, don't you?"
"More than anything."
"Then, give her your blood," said Elijah. "It just might work."
Klaus nodded and sat down on the bed, lifting Caroline's head slowly and bit into his wrist, placing it by her mouth. "Here, love, drink from me. It'll help you."
He then heard her moaning as she began to drink from him. Elijah stood nearby, watching them. He was hoping against hope that Klaus' blood would be able to counteract the contaminated blood that she accidentally ingested. His brother obviously cared for her, it was evident in the way he spoke earlier. After a few minutes, when Klaus was sure that Caroline had taken enough, he removed his wrist and laid her back down on the pillow, kissing her forehead as he took a seat in the chair he had been sitting in before.
It was quiet for a while and then Klaus spoke. "Do you think it'll work?"
"We'll know in the morning," his brother replied. "Until then, all we can do is wait."
Klaus nodded and lifted Caroline's hand, kissing her knuckles. What he did for her had to work, he was counting on it.
The Next Day...
When Caroline opened her eyes again, it was morning. She sat up in bed and looked over to see Klaus asleep and holding her hand. Had he been there the whole night? He must've been really concerned about her if that was the case. No sooner did she wake up than she heard him moan before he too woke up. Seeing that the color had returned to her face, he smiled at her.
"You're all right."
"Yeah, I guess I am," she replied. "What the hell happened to me?"
"You accidentally ingested contaminated blood," said Klaus. "Elijah informed me that the blood bank had to recall some of the blood it was using. That was why you had gotten so violently ill. Fortunately, I was able to cure you with my blood."
"I knew that the blood I drank yesterday tasted funny," said Caroline. "But, I'm glad you acted as quickly as you did."
"As am I." He kissed her knuckles and then her lips. "If I hadn't, there was a chance that you would've died and I didn't want that to happen."
Caroline smiled and returned his kiss. "Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere. Not unless you're with me."
Note: Yeah, don't ask where the idea for this came from, but it was something that snuck up on me. Enjoy, lovelies and keep the Klaroline faith!
