The charity party that Marcel was hosting was in full swing as Klaus arrived, arm in arm with Rebekah. He was dressed in a black suit, and she in a black gown, with black feathers in her blonde hair. As they walked in, Klaus couldn't help but feel another presence other than himself and his sister. It was a familiar presence too, a very familiar presence. No, it couldn't be who he thought, could it? She'd be taking a big risk by showing herself here, what with Marcel's minions all over the Quarter. The presence got even stronger the further he walked in, and Klaus had a hard time shaking it, which made Rebekah look at him, a concerned look on her face.

"Nik, are you all right?"

Klaus was about to answer her when he looked up at the balcony and noticed a beautiful blonde standing there, dressed in a white dress and sporting angel wings on her back, as well as a mask on her face to hide her identity. Her hair hung loose and in a gentle curl on her shoulders, making her dress look even more elegant. Despite the fact that she was concealing herself, Klaus felt like he knew her. The blonde on the balcony then looked down at him, masked eyes meeting greenish blue. It was when their eyes met that Klaus noticed that they were a beautiful shade of blue. Shit, not now, not here. Rebekah got even more concerned.

"Niklaus, answer me! Are you all right? I tried asking you and you're not answering me!"

Klaus saw the blonde on the balcony turn and walk away and it was then that he finally looked at Rebekah. "My apologies, Bekah, but I'm afraid I must depart from the party early. If Marcel asks, tell him that something has come up and I will call him tomorrow."

Before Rebekah could ask him what he meant by that, Klaus was already gone, hoping to catch the blonde that had captured his attention. Somehow, he had to find out if this was who he thought it was and why she had shown up. He followed her through the Quarter, all the way to Jackson Square, where she turned around to look at him again.

"I knew that you'd follow me. I do apologize for concealing myself, but I couldn't let anyone know who I was until the time was right."

Klaus felt his jaw go slack. That voice, he knew it from anywhere. "Caroline? Is that you? If it is, take off your mask. You don't have to hide your identity, it's just us, there's no one else around."

No sooner did he say this than the blonde removed her mask and Klaus saw that it was Caroline. Smiling at him, she said, "Hello, Klaus."

Unable to speak due to the happiness flowing through him, Klaus went over to her and hugged her, feeling her arms around his waist as she returned his hug. It was quiet for what seemed like an eternity until finally, he stepped back, taking her hands in his, saying, "You have no idea how good it is to see you, love."

"I could say the same about you," she replied. "Again, I apologize for hiding my identity like that, but like I said, I couldn't let anyone know who I was until the time was right. Though, you weren't fooled for a minute, weren't you? You knew who I was anyway."

"Why wouldn't I know you?" said Klaus. "Caroline, you can try to disguise yourself, but I'd still know who you are." He eyed her up and down, a smile appearing on his face. "You look stunning."

Caroline returned his smile. "Thank you." She licked her lips as she admired his suit. "You look hot in that suit. Black is definitely your color, Klaus."

Klaus searched for something to say, but words failed him in that moment, so instead of giving her a verbal reply, he pulled her in for a scorching kiss, scooping her up in his arms bridal style. Caroline smiled against his kiss and returned his kiss without the slightest bit of hesitation, reaching her hands up to run her fingers through his hair, earning her a groan from him before he broke the kiss, still holding her. They both panted and looked into each other's eyes, laughing in unison in between panting. There was no mistaking just how wonderful they felt in that moment and neither of them wanted it to end.

Finally, Caroline said, "I'll bet you couldn't wait to do that, huh?"

"No, I couldn't," he replied. "Kissing you made my evening." He smiled at her. "Did it make yours?"

"It definitely made my evening," said Caroline. "You told me once to take a chance and I did." She kissed him again. "Marcel didn't notice you leaving, did he? I'd hate for you to get in trouble for leaving on perhaps the most important evening in his long life."

"I told Rebekah to tell him that something came up and that I'd call him tomorrow," said Klaus. "He's had plenty of important evenings over the centuries, so I'm sure he'll forgive me this one time." He returned her kiss. "Besides, you're the most important thing this evening."

Caroline giggled and kissed him again, wanting him to know just how much she was enjoying being with him on night like tonight. The masquerade might have been a fun event, but it wasn't half as fun as what was going on between them. It was as though the world melted away and nothing else existed other than the hybrid and the blonde vampire in his arms.

Note: Special thanks to mycutehamlet for suggesting this. Your idea was amazing and I enjoyed bringing it to life. Enjoy, my lovelies and keep the Klaroline faith! As I said, true love will prevail for our couple! :)
