I got a request from ForsakenMythr2012 to do a "Klaroline-ified" version of the latest episode of TO. Thank you for your reviews and support!
TO 1x20 AU.
It's your love
It just does somethin' to me
It sends a shock right through me
I can't get enough
And if you wonder
About the spell I'm under
It's your love
Klaus took a swig from the bottle in his hand as he sat at the table, his advanced hearing picking up the sounds of the people gathered around and toasting the late Father Kiernan, whom he had killed after turning him. Honestly, how the hell could people be so festive when it came to death? True, the city practically worshipped the supernatural, but making death a joyous occasion? That was something he couldn't understand. Then again, he had been walking this planet longer than anyone else, so naturally, there had to be a degree of confusion.
However, said confusion didn't last very long, because he suddenly picked up the presence, a very familiar presence. When he looked up, he saw Caroline walking in. That's funny, what was she doing here? He didn't remember calling her. He had no time to think, because no sooner did she walk in than she took a seat across from him, calling for an order of beer and then turning to face the Original hybrid in front of her.
"I'm sorry about your friend."
"I hardly think he was a friend, more like an acquaintance."
"Well, whatever you called him, he must've meant a great deal to you," she replied. "And to this city, considering how many people are cheering for him."
"He was a priest," said Klaus. "Many of the people here respected him."
Caroline nodded, remembering when Pastor Young had died. Of course, he had blown himself and several Council members to Kingdom Come, but it was still a great loss to the people of Mystic Falls, and she was pretty sure Father Kiernan's death was a great loss to the people of New Orleans.
"So, how did he die?"
"A witch had hexed him, and to cure him of that, I gave him my blood, turning him," said Klaus. "However, that plan backfired, so I ultimately had to kill him." He saw the look on her face. "Oh, don't look at me like that, love, everyone has been compelled to think he had a heart attack."
Caroline nodded. Why is that not surprising? "Well, it seems to be working."
"It's working for them," said Klaus. "But, you know damn well that I can't compel myself to forget what happened to him. For all eternity, I have to face the fact that a man died because of me."
"Klaus, don't blame yourself," said Caroline. "Didn't you just get finished saying that you did it because your plan backfired on you?" She placed her hand on his. "Listen to me, it's not worth beating yourself up over. I know that it may not help matters, but he's in a better place now."
Klaus didn't answer right away, just listened to her. What she said made sense, and she was absolutely right, the death of Father Kiernan wasn't worth beating himself up over. He had no choice but to stake him. If he hadn't, there was a good chance that an innocent congregant would've lost his or her life.
Caroline noticed that he was quiet after she finished speaking. "Klaus, what is it? You're awfully quiet, and something tells me that this is about more than just the death of your friend. Is something bothering you?"
"It's my father."
"Your father?" said Caroline. "What about him?"
"He's haunting me," said Klaus. "I had a nightmare about him this morning. Bloody bastard is toying with me. Obviously, death wasn't enough to end his torment."
Caroline was about to tell him that it was just a dream, but then remembered something. "I think it has to do with the Other Side crumbling. Bonnie is the anchor, and lately, a lot of weird shit has been happening in Mystic Falls."
Klaus raised an eyebrow at that. "Did you say the Other Side is crumbling?"
Caroline nodded. "Yes, and if it could affect Mystic Falls, it could affect New Orleans as well. Surely, the witches who hexed your friend had to have known about it." She sighed. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have mentioned it."
"No, love, I'm glad you told me," said Klaus. "This way, I'll know what I'm up against." He placed his free hand on top of his. "And I assure you, I won't let anything happen to you. I defeated my father once, I can sure as hell do it again. Chances are he'll probably use the knowledge of the Other Side crumbling to try to come to life. Well, I'll send that bastard back to whatever hole he slithered out of and make sure that he never comes back again."
Caroline smiled. "I won't let you do it alone. I know that you're probably going to get all protective of me, but I'm perfectly capable of handling things myself. Of course, I'd definitely allow you to step to help me, like you did against the ghosts of the twelve witches I accidentally killed."
Klaus didn't answer, but leaned in and kissed her, letting her know that he appreciated what she was doing. Somehow, everything didn't seem as bleak because he had his beautiful blonde angel at his side. Caroline smiled against his lips returned his kiss, letting the moment between them sink in.
Note: There you have it, ForsakenMythr2012's request is finally done. It's a week late, but I just couldn't get the flow to where I wanted it. I then decided to do a "Klaroline-ified" version of the bar scene in 1x20 (minus Elijah, Cami, Marcel, and Hayley). Enjoy!
