Hello, lovelies! I felt the need to update "Eternal Flame," because I can't really think of anything else to write. Thank you for the reviews and support! KLAROLINE IS LOVE!

In the burning heart
Just about to burst
There's a quest for answers
An unquenchable thirst
In the darkest night
Rising like a spire
In the burning heart
The unmistakable fire

Klaus smiled as he surveyed the scene. Tonight was the gala event he was hosting, which was in celebration of a book he had recently published. Even though it was to generate publicity, he was counting on a certain blonde vampire to show up. Elijah noticed this and it wasn't long before he said something.

"I take it that you're hoping that she'll show up tonight, Niklaus?"

"That's exactly what I'm hoping," he replied. "I dedicated the book to her."

"Why am I not surprised?" said Elijah. "Well, I hope that your plan works, because I've seen how you get whenever your plans backfire on you."

"It won't backfire on me," said Klaus. "Caroline will be here."

Elijah was about to answer him when Klaus sensed a familiar presence and smiled when he saw Caroline walking into the building. She looked extremely beautiful in the green dress she was wearing, which brought out the blue in her eyes. Excusing himself from his brother, Klaus went over to her.

"Good evening, Caroline. I'm glad you came."

The blonde vampire smiled at the hybrid. "Well, I was curious when I received the invitation in the mail." She looked around the venue that he chosen for the event. "You've certainly outdone yourself. I'd say it's even more impressive than the ball at your mansion in Mystic Falls, but I haven't been here long enough to make that comparison."

Klaus smiled. "It's still good to see you tonight." He gave her his arm. "Come, let me show you around."

Caroline smiled and took his arm, seeing how everyone reacted to them, especially from the women. I think they're jealous of us, she thought. Of course, I really don't give a shit. The only thing I care about is being here as Klaus' guest.

As soon as she completed that thought, Klaus brought her over to a table, where she noticed the copies of the book, which he then picked up with his free hand and presented to her, another smile on his face.

"I thought you might enjoy this."

Caroline raised a curious eyebrow at him. "What's this?"

"It's my book," he replied. "I've dedicated it to you."

"You wrote a book?" said Caroline. "Wow, I'm impressed. Is it a biography or something?"

"Actually, it's a romance novel."

Caroline turned to see Elijah approaching them, smiling at him. "Hey, Elijah, it's good to see you again."

"Likewise, Miss Forbes," he replied. "Though, I must admit that I didn't think that this wouldn't work, but I was wrong." He smiled. "And, as I said, the book that Niklaus wrote was a romance novel, and he dedicated it to you, as well as based the heroine on you."

"Really?"

Klaus nodded. "It's true, the heroine of my novel is based on you. She's a princess, and yet, she's a free spirit who doesn't live by anyone's rules but her own, even giving up her kingdom to marry a man that her family disapproves of."

"She does?" said Caroline. "That's definitely my kind of girl. I can't wait to read it."

"You and the rest of the people that showed up here," said Elijah. "They've been looking forward to it since Niklaus advertized it in the paper. I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes every bit as popular as the other romance novelists in the world."

"I agree with you," said Caroline. "There's always a huge demand for books about romance, whether it be written by a man or a woman." She looked at Klaus. "I'm definitely going to read this, and not just because you've based the heroine on me. I'm going to read it because I'm curious."

"Thank you, love," said Klaus. "You'll like it, I assure you."

Several Hours Later...

Caroline smiled at Klaus as they shared a dance on the dance floor. Although the party had died down at around midnight, Caroline didn't want to leave, and not just because she was enjoying herself too much. No, she stayed because she wanted to.

"Did you enjoy yourself tonight, Caroline?"

Klaus' voice brought her out of her reverie just then. "Huh? Oh, yes, I did. Everyone walked out with an autographed copy of your book."

"They most certainly did," said Klaus. "The event was a complete success." He smiled. "It was an even bigger success thanks to you, love."

"Me? I didn't do much other than inspire the heroine."

Klaus smiled again and leaned down, kissing her softly. Caroline smiled against his lips, returning his kiss and bringing her hands up to frame his face. Elijah watched this from nearby, smiling at his brother and the lady vampire he loved. This was their night, and he was glad they were able to enjoy it together.

Note: Here you go, lovelies, an update. Enjoy! :)
