Okay, lovelies, I know I'm late with the update on "Eternal Flame" (the last time being November 11), but I wanted to take time to recover before updating. Anyway, I have a new one shot for you. Hope you enjoy!

If I just breathe
Let it fill the space between
I'll know everything is alright
Breathe
Every little piece of me
You'll see
Everything is alright
If I just breathe

TO 2x07 AU. After Ansel's body was delivered to Esther.

A plethora of emotions were rushing through him as Klaus hurried away from Esther's place. He had just planted the dead body of his biological father, Ansel, to her as his way of telling her that he wasn't going to give up his vampirism. He had gotten the orchids that could cure Elijah of the coma he was in, which was the real reason for his trek into the swamp. While Ansel had been useful in retrieving the orchid (there was vervain around the area they were growing and it would have been impossible for him to retrieve it without being weakened), the thing that drove Klaus to kill him was that he told him that he knew about Hope. Not about to risk leaving him alive, he had taken the man's machete and sliced his chest open.

Of course, he couldn't dwell on the deed he had done, because he was acting out of fatherly instincts, and because Elijah was waiting for the orchid that would lift the spell Esther had placed on him.

After what seemed like an eternity, he arrived back at the mansion, where he found Caroline still watching over Elijah. The blonde vampire saw the blood on Klaus' chest and grew concerned. Just what the hell happened during his quest for the orchid?

"Oh my God," she said. "Klaus, you're covered in blood. Are you okay?"

"I killed him," he replied. "I killed my father."

"Your real father?"

"Yes," said Klaus. "I no longer had any use for him after he helped me get the orchids, which were surrounded by vervain and I couldn't get them without being weakened."

Caroline nodded. Somehow, she got the feeling that he wasn't telling her everything, but decided not to push the issue. Not now, at least. He seemed to be focused on helping his brother and she wasn't about to stand in the way of that.

Finally, she said, "Well, I stayed with Elijah all day, wiping his sweat with a cool cloth every five minutes or so. He's been the same, muttering something in his sleep, mostly your name, and other stuff that I couldn't quite understand."

Klaus nodded as well. He stepped over to the bed and took out the bag containing the orchids, applying them to the burn mark on Elijah's neck. Caroline walked out of the room while he was doing this, knowing that he wanted a moment alone with his brother as he went about his task. She found a chair in the hallway and sat in it. She couldn't believe that all this was because that bitch, Esther, was up to her old tricks again, making life an absolute hell for her children. What kind of a mother did that? It just wasn't right, and in that moment, she didn't give a shit if the Original witch had her beat in age by centuries, because she wanted to track her down and kill her for causing her children, namely Klaus, so much pain.

She was still thinking about it when Klaus emerged from the room, meeting her gaze. "The orchids were applied. Now, we wait for him to wake up."

Caroline nodded and before she could reply, Klaus walked away from her and went downstairs to get a drink. The blonde vampire followed after him and watched as he took a swig of whiskey. Klaus normally didn't drink whiskey, since champagne was his drink of choice, but she figured it was the gravity of the situation that made him change his pattern.

"What really happened out there? I feel like you left something out. I know you said you killed your father, but what else?"

Klaus didn't face her as he replied, "I delivered his body to Esther as a warning." He sighed. "I wanted to trust him, Caroline, I really did, but he said that he knew about Hope. So, not wanting anything to happen to her because of my longing for a father, I killed him. After he was dead, I delivered his body to my mother."

"So, you killed him for her?"

Klaus turned to face her then. "Yes."

Caroline nodded and approached him, hugging him gently, not caring if she was getting Ansel's blood on her clothes. The only thing that really mattered in that moment was comforting Klaus after the no doubt troubling day he had, wishing that they could just kill the bitch already. After what she put everyone through, death was a just reward. She only wished that was enough to keep Hope safe until the time came for her to return.

Note: Yeah, couldn't think of anything else to add, so I'll end it here. I'm glad Ansel is dead, because I didn't trust him from the moment I saw him. I also couldn't decide which scene to Klaroline-ify, so I chose to just make one up for the hell of it. Enjoy, lovelies and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
