Hey, lovelies! I know it's been a while since I last updated "Eternal Flame" (the last time being June 7), but inspiration was lacking, so I put the series on hiatus until I got my thoughts together. Since I have a moment now, I'm going to update now. Enjoy, and thank you for accompanying me on this journey!

Fire burned all around them as Klaus and Caroline went about their hunting spree, taking one victim after another and burying the bodies where no one would be able to locate them. Caroline was definitely enjoying this joint hunting venture that she and Klaus were embarking on, mostly because he knew where the best victims were located, and she wondered why she didn't want to share her hunting ground with him in the beginning. Of course, all that was trivial now, because they were enjoying one successful hunt after another.

They then took shelter in a cabin in the bayou, where Caroline licked her lips and tasted the blood of the victim she killed before the hunt concluded. She could feel herself getting stronger and it was the best feeling in the world.

"Did you have fun tonight, love?"

Klaus' question brought her back to reality somewhat and she gave him a bloody smirk. "Are you kidding? I think that was the most fun I ever had in a long time, and I'm definitely glad that you convinced me into sharing my hunting ground with you."

"The feeling is mutual," he replied. "Your skills are remarkable, Caroline."

"They are, aren't they?" said Caroline. "Yours are just as remarkable, Klaus." She approached him and wrapped her arms around his neck, looking into his greenish blue eyes. "You are so hot. It has got to be illegal to be that hot."

Klaus smirked at her words. "Is that so? I've never been called hot before."

"Consider me the first then."

Klaus chuckled and pulled her close to him, kissing her passionately. Caroline growled playfully against his lips and returned his kiss, moaning as the kiss deepened. It felt like the first time all over again, even if it hadn't been that long since they last kissed.

After a few minutes, she stepped back, meeting his eyes again. "That was amazing."

"Oh, I think amazing isn't quite the word I would use to describe how I felt about that kiss, love," said Klaus. "I think it was…fantastic, just like you." He kissed her again. "Pledge your devotion to me, Caroline. Pledge it, and I'll make sure that you never have to be alone again."

Caroline reached her hands up to run her fingers through his dark blonde locks, feeling the softness of each strand against her skin. She couldn't help but adore him in that moment. How could she not after hearing words like that from his glorious mouth?

"I pledge my devotion to you, Klaus," she said. "I pledge it to you all eternity."

Klaus smiled against her lips and kissed her again, loving her all the more. That was the kind of pledge he had been longing for, the eternal pledge of one's lover to another. There was no one else he would swear his eternal pledge to than the lovely blonde vampire before him, and he was going to make sure that Caroline was taken care of, in more ways than one.
