As part of the Year 60 Armament Reinforcement Plan, the EFF begins development and then mass production of the RTX-65 Guntank Early Type, a mobile humanoid tank based off of the RTX-44 Main Battle Tank (MBT) designed to support Federation troop movements and maintain public order in the space colonies.

Premier Zeon Zum Deikun of the Autonomous Republic of Munzo dies from unknown causes (possibly assassinated as part of a power grab by his chief of staff Degwin Sodo Zabi and his eldest children Gihren, Sasro, Dozle, and Kycilia, although nothing concrete has ever been uncovered) and is succeeded by Degwin, whose second son, Sasro Zabi, is assassinated in what appears to be an act of revenge by Deikun's followers.

Degwin Sodo Zabi establishes himself as the Sovereign Protector of Side 3, with the Autonomous Republic of Munzo being transformed from a parliamentary democracy to an autocratic monarchy. The Autonomous Republic of Munzo is rechristened as the Autonomous Republic of Zeon (also known as the First Republic of Zeon or simply the Republic of Zeon) seemingly in honor of the late Zeon Zum Deikun. Degwin's remaining children Gihren, Dozle, Kycilia, and Garma are given important positions in the new government. Darcia Bakharov is appointed as Sovereign Protector Degwin's Prime Minister. Gihren Zabi leads a purge of Deikun's followers.

Side 3 (Munzo Province) (L2) is redesignated as Side 3 (Zeon Province) (L2).

Zeon Zum Deikun's wife Astraia Tor Deikun is placed under state custody by the Zabi family, and her children, Casval Rem Deikun and Artesia Som Deikun, are taken to Earth by Jimba Ral, who seeks refuge with an old friend of his and Deikun's, Don Teabolo Mass, who adopts the Deikun children as his own under the names of Edouard and Sayla.

The Munzo Elite Force (MEF) - renamed the Zeon Elite Force (ZEF) - becomes the cadre of a new and vastly expanded Zeon Military Force (ZMF).
