Chapter 7: Painful Legends
Dracula and Michael were walking down a hall, after preventing Quasimodo from making a human pot pie out of the Boogeyman…
"Uh… Thanks for saving me back there Dracula, I can see your chef is a bit of a cannibal…" Michael hesitantly thanked Dracula.
"Michael… there's something I must show you…" Dracula replied, with a slightly depressed tone, as he and Michael soon opened a door, to a dark and dusty room, with cobwebs, as Dracula lit some candles, before guiding Michael inside.
"Wow… What is this room? Oh wait, Is this your room, Hence the coffin?" Michael asked in slight humor and concern, before he noticed a picture of a woman in black, on the wall nearby, half covered by some… "Wait, I've seen a picture of that woman before… there's a legend of her, around the castle ruins of Lubov, here in Transylvania."
"A Legend? Tell me more…" Dracula asked in concern, as he handed his candle holder to Michael…
"The Lady Lubov legend: For what I had learned, it is foretold, that a lonely count met her by chance, and they say no two souls, were ever more meant for each other… eventually, they settled down at Castle Lubov, somewhere here in Transylvania, and they had a child… But then, a tragedy happened… a fire started mysteriously one night… and they were both killed… It is also foretold, that their souls are still trapped in the ruins of the castle… I was heading that way when I first got here, but I got lost…" Michael Foretold what he had learnt about the picture…
"Michael… The Legend is Wrong… It was only the wife who died that night…" Dracula replied in sadness, before removing the cover of the picture, revealing the rest of the picture, that the Lady Lubov, was Dracula's wife… "And it was no mystery that killed her… She was killed by your kind!"
*FLASHBACK TO 1895*
Humans were all gathered outside the Lubov castle, armed with pitchforks and torches, screaming Vampire words at the castle, as it began to burn down…
(Inside…)
"Honey?" Martha asked in worry, as she held an infant Mavis.
"Go Hide, I'll take care of this." Dracula replied reassuringly but was also worried too, as he left, to try and reason with the humans.
"VAMPIRE!" One human shouted, as Dracula tried to reason with them…
But as Dracula Tried and Tried to calm and reassure the humans… he heard the worst sound imaginable… as Martha's scream was heard…
"MARTHA!" Dracula called in terror, as Martha's body fell to the floor…
"They are the Real Monsters…" Dracula narrated, as he held his crying infant Daughter, while watching from a distance, as Castle Lubov, his former home, burned to the ground…
*FLASHBACK ENDS*
Michael felt a mixture of Grief, Guilt and Anger… Grief, for Dracula losing his wife Martha… Guilt, for the fact that humans were responsible for Martha's death… & Anger, for the fact, that many humans could be so cruel… and the fact, that he was no different, as Michael sighed in sorrow for Dracula…
"I built this place for my love, to protect her child. As a father, you do anything to keep your family safe, even if you have to break their trust… But now, Mavis has feeling for you Michael…" Dracula explained calmly, as he walked over and turned to Michael…
"What? I… I Just… Wow…" Michael gasped silently, in both worry and slight happiness.
"It's all right, you are a good one Michael, If the world was different, maybe it would be possible…" Dracula wished, seeing he believed that Michael was a good human, and wished all other humans could be the same…
"Well, it is the 21st century now, many humans have changed over the years… But many haven't changed… some are still bad… I didn't see myself as a bad one before… but now I do…" Michael replied in guilt, as tears began forming in his eyes…
"What do you mean Michael? You think of yourself as a monster?" Dracula asked calmly in concern.
"Not towards monsters like you and everyone here Dracula… Only humans see me that way… even the remaining members of my family see me as a monster… ever since Judith died…" Michael replied in sadness, as he squinted his eyes on sorrow, as tears began running down his mask…
"Judith? Who's Judith?" Dracula asked in concern again…
"Judith was my older sister… she was murdered on October 31st, Halloween Night, 1963… she was only 17 at the time… I was only 6…" Michael replied more…
"Was it a human that murdered your sister Michael?" Dracula asked this time in worry and sorrow.
Michael paused for a couple of seconds, before replying…
"Judith died… Because of me… I was the human that killed her!" Michael replied in guilt, and anger towards himself…
*FLASHBACK TO 1963*
"I was out Trick or Treating on my own that Halloween night, in my hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois… Judith was meant to be looking after me, as our parents were out for the night, and our younger siblings were at our grandparents' house for the night aswell, But Judith was too busy entertaining her boyfriend: Daniel… It wasn't the first time she'd broken rules that our parents have given her…especially when it came towards looking after me…" Michael Narrated, as he recalled that Halloween night in 1963, when he returned home from Trick or Treating, dressed up in a clown costume, before he saw Judith & Daniel through the living room window outside, as they began making out…
Judith & Daniel then went upstairs, before Michael saw the light in Judith's bedroom go out, indicating they were up to something more than just making out…
"As soon as I saw that light go out, I could hear the voices in my head again, telling me to do the most horrible thing I could do… I know Judith & I didn't have the greatest sibling Relationship… But what happened next, was the most terrible thing a 6-year-old could do…" Michael continued as he recalled when he then proceeded round to the back of the house, and entered the kitchen, where he then took out a large butcher's knife from one of kitchen draws…
"Voices? What Voices?" Dracula asked in concern and worry.
"I've been hearing these voices in my head, even at a younger age… They keep telling me to do bad things, but the more I tried to ignore them, the more they would become aggressive… the worst times I heard them, was whenever Judith had broken any rule she was given, when it came to looking after me…" Michael explained more…
Michael waited for Daniel to leave, before Daniel left the house, and then Michael proceeded up the stairs to Judith's bedroom, where she sat at her bedroom mirror combing her hair, before she noticed Michael in his clown costume and mask, standing behind her…
"Michael?!" Judith said in shock, before Michael proceeded to stab Judith over and over brutally and repeatedly with the large knife, as she screamed in pain and agony, before she fell to the floor, bleeding out…
Michael then left Judith's room, then went downstairs, before walking out the front door, as his parents (Donald & Edith), pulled up in their car, with their younger children in back seat, before they noticed Michael standing outside the house, in his clown costume, with a blood covered knife in his right hand…
"Michael?" Donald said in concern and worry, as he removed Michael's clown mask, as Michael stood there, with a blank expression of shock on his face, leaving Donald & Edith in worry and confusion…
*FLASHBACK ENDS*
Dracula looked at Michael on shock and sorrow. Although Michael admitted that he was a killer, Dracula could see and feel, that Michael was hatful of himself for what he had done…
"So, what happened to you after that Michael?" Dracula asked calmly.
"I was then placed in a hospital for humans with mental illnesses, called Smith's Grove Warren County Sanitarium, Where I was watched closely by my psychiatrist: Dr Samuel J Loomis. Loomis was like a father figure to me, he always tried to help, as well as understand me. For 15 years, he spent 8 of them, trying to reach and understand me, but then the last 7 trying to keep me detained, believing whatever it was that drove me to kill, was the essence of Pure Evil… But Loomis had no idea what was really going on…" Michael explained, before continuing… "Many of Loomis's colleagues, one in particular: Dr Terence Wynn, when they all discovered what I was capable of, beyond that of a normal human… Wynn saw this as an opportunity, to exploit it, to hurt the innocent, including Monsters… He was a real monster to me, though I couldn't say I was any better…"
"In other words, he tried to make you like some kind of twisted weapon against monsters like us?" Dracula asked in worry.
"Yeah, but I never wanted to hurt anyone else, ever since I killed Judith… But that wasn't the end of it… on October 30th, in 1978, when I due to be taken to court, where I was to be tired as an adult for Judith's murder… But I escaped and returned to Haddonfield, where I ended up killing 4 more people… a mechanic… and Three teenagers, who were all friends of one of my younger sister: Cynthia, who was now going under the name: Laurie Strode… Laurie was almost another victim, but luckily, Loomis had followed me home, and stopped me from killing Laurie, as he shot me 6 times, before I fell off a balcony…" Michael continued to explain more, as he recalled all the murders he committed on October 31st, Halloween night, 1978… "It Just feels now… No matter where I go or where I am… There will always be pain & suffering, all because of me… I've had enough of it… Dracula, you're right, I must leave… If Mavis asks, tell her the gremlin lady ate me or something…"
"No, no, no, no, no, I don't want her birthday Party to be ruined, you can always sneak out once it's all done." Dracula said, as he stopped and reassured Michael, despite all he had learnt of the Boogeyman's past, he knew Michael wasn't as Evil as he or the humans claimed him to be…
"I'm sorry Dracula, The Last thing I want to do, is to hurt Mavis, or you, or anyone in this hotel…" Michael replied, turning back to Dracula.
"In understand your true feelings and concerns Michael, but to be honest, you are a pretty good Boogeyman, especially how you handled Quasimodo and Esmeralda." Dracula contemplated Michael.
"Thanks Dracula." As they patted each other on their backs.
"I was amazed on how your silence, heavy breathing and head tilting just scared Esmeralda." Dracula said in amazement.
"Well, as some would say: Watch out for the quiet ones…" Michael replied in a slight chuckle, as he and Dracula then left the room, to prepare for Mavis's 118th Birthday party that night…
